I knew getting around DC on the 4th of July 2026 weekend was going to be horrible, so when looked at ways to get around I landed on Yellow Cab of Dc. Christopher set me up with a cab for the day on Thursday ( a whole lot cheaper than a limo) so we could do Arlington, Mt. Vernon and back. The rest of the weekend I used the YCDC App and it worked beautifully. Again, no limos, but timely, nice drivers and easy. We tried to get an Uber once, but ended up going back to Yellow Cab. We had a wonderful time celbrating the 250th, and YCDC took away the travel worries I had envisioned. I will use them again. read more

I only went looking for an alternative to uber & Lyft to save money during rush hour. My kid goes to school about a 15min drive from home, but no one is able to pick him up and he's too young to take the multiple busses it would take to get home. I used the YC mobile app & web app twice to get him a ride. Both times it said the driver would arrive in 4 mins--guess that's their default--but actually arrived in 15+ mins. When you book, they just tell you the ride is confirmed, but don't give you any information about the driver or how long it'll take for a few good long minutes. After a loooong wait, it says your driver is 4 mins away. The last time I booked with them, I watched the car on the app that had confirmed just sit, not move an inch, for probably 5 minutes solid. Geographically he was super close. Then for about 8 minutes he just inched along until he did finally reach the neighborhood. BUT, he whizzed right by the school and went down the street and just sat there. I called the service number 3 times-- it's just an automated machine. You can request to speak to the driver. Each of the three times I selected it, hoping to let him know that the school was behind him, it ring once and then hung up. After waiting for 16 minutes total for a car that was in the beginning had been like a 6-minute drive away, I cancelled the ride and ordered an uber for $8 more, which arrived in precisely 4 minutes. read more

Despite having a previously bad experience with Yellow Cab, I thought maybe they'd mended their ways. So I gave them another so I booked a ride several days in advance of my scheduled clinic appointment. Today I'm waiting to hear from Yellow Cab that my ride's on the way or it's arrived. Nothing! I call and I'm told They don't yet have a driver for me but they're still looking! What!??? I find they've scheduled my ride's is scheduled to be at my home at 10:4am. The time I'm supposed to arrive at the clinic! Whomever I was talking to just kept repeating that my ride's for 10:45am. I hung up cursing. I get a call saying that cat # whatever is on the way. OK. Maybe this won't be too bad. Cab picks me up at approximately 10:37. On the way I see his meter running so I ask if I'm being charged for this ride? I most definitely am. After having a not-so-great experience taking an Uber from the airport to my hotel, I made a reservation with DC Yellow Cab for my ride to the airport. I was able to easily make a reservation at dcyellowcab.com, and my reservation was confirmed via email. On the day of my pick-up, I was sent a text shortly before my driver arrive so I could track how close he was to the hotel. My driver Mohamed picked me up in front of my hotel and handled my luggage with care. It was a smooth ride to the airport. Mohamed was polite and professional. My experience with DC Yellow Cab was better than Uber. I will reserve with DC Yellow Cab again on my next trip to DC. read more

Absolutely DO NOT book Yellow Cab of DC online. We prebooked a cab to take us to the airport. When the cab was late, I called to find out when it would arrive. I was told they don't pick up or drop off at the address I had given. The person said they could see that my reservation was in the system but was not in their service area even though they had sent a confirmation. She was rude stating that I should not have booked online but called the dispatcher. Why offer online booking if they don't want you to use it? She gave me the number to a different Yellow Cab service, but no one answered the phone. We ended up calling a private company that barely got us to the airport on time. So - they don't honor online bookings even with a confirmation, office staff are rude, they don't tell you they are not coming even when they know they won't come, and their recommended alternate is just plain not available. I hope they go out of business. I always prefer taxis to ride share services, but in this instance, I would have been better off with anybody else. read more

Unbelievable! I'm only giving this company one star because there is no zero star rating available! On a recent visit to our nation's capital, I preordered a taxi to pick up 2 motorized scooters from the Smithsonian. Museum of African America. History and Culture and return us (me and husband) to Arlington. We were told to be at the pickup point and call to verify the appointment. We did as instructed. Yet an associate tried to convince us that we had no such order. After asking for a manager. He acknowledged the order but said that he had no cabs available and didn't know when he would. So we're 2 seniors with limited walking mobility, sitting in the sun for an undetermined span of time. The manager was so nonchalant that I am appalled that they are still on business. I was in Washington DC for the AIPAC Policy Conference and I was picked up at Union Station by Yellow Cab Company of DC. First, the taxi I was in was nice and clean inside. They had a credit card swipe on the backseat, which had the ability to read out your location in case you had a sight disability. I had never seen that before in a taxi, but it could definitely help many people out. The driver was very kind and polite the entire time and knew exactly where how to get to my location, which was the Marriott Renaissance. He also took us there in a very timely fashion. The driver was also very sweet and we had a nice, little conversation. Altogether, Yellow Cab Company of DC is a reliable cab company with great drivers that can take you from point A to point B. read more

Yet, I apologized to HIM. To complain, I used the DC commissioner site, http://dctaxi.dc.gov/service/complaints They took my story (they also record everything so it's just confirming) and told me what he did was very illegal and they would be fining him heftily. My heroes! ===Full Story=== Once we arrived at destination, fare appeared on screen in front of me in the passenger side back seat pay screen, I slid my card & chose a tip and paid the fare for a total of $12.30. The screen said "payment accepted" and I started to gather my things to leave. He stopped me "Where are you going? Not yet! It has to show up here!" indicating his front computer/machine. "OK" i said and waited. "It's not showing up!" Me: "OK, so it didn't go through. OK how do i pay? what do you want me to do?" Him: "you have to tell me when you use a credit card before you swipe it!" Can I give them 0 stars? I had to run an errand but my internet was down and I couldn't hail an Uber/Lyft. So I called them at 11:30 am, by 12:20 PM I still hadn't been picked up. By this time, I called 3 times and was given different excuses by the dispatcher each time. The first time, the dispatcher told me he was 5 minutes away. I called 10 minutes later, same excuse, I called 10 minutes later and he was 3 minutes away but the dispatcher couldn't reach the driver. My husband scheduled a specific pickup time on a Sunday afternoon to catch a flight for a business trip out of town, and got a confirmation, but as of five mins after the scheduled time, no cab and the app was reporting no driver had been assigned!!! I had to put my child in his car seat and cancel our afternoon plans to drive him to Dulles. Yellow Cab can be a good deal compared to Uber and Lyft but pickup estimates are even less reliable than for those two (three minutes turning into six, back to three, to one, to five not being unusual). Had a YC ride today that took 10 minutes to arrive after driver was "assigned" and a pickup of 3 minutes was then stated. After about 8 minutes the app announced that "driver is here" but he was still several blocks away. Communicating with driver also proved difficult. If I'd known 10 minutes plus the extra fuss I would have canceled and switched companies. When I asked the driver why the discrepancies in announced times he got defensive and complained that it's because rides often are no show when he does get to the pickup. Yeah, with that kind of communication I can see why people bail. So, he finally shows up, ride was uneventful, no traffic, he gets paid with ApplePay and tipped despite being surly. An hour later the bill shows a $7.68 "extras" charge. When YC office is contacted, twice, they finally admit that it's a wait charge!!! So, now users get charged for being kept waiting?/s It's been several hours since I was told I would get a callback from person authorized to change billing. Why am I not holding my breath? Guaranteed, "extras" plus tip will be canceled and if not, I will dispute the whole fare. read more

I made a reservation with this cab company to get to the airport for an early morning flight. At the time the cab was supposed to arrive, I called the driver, who said he was ten minutes away. Fifteen minutes later, I tried calling again, and nobody picked up. Then I called dispatch, who informed me that the driver had left the area and my ride was cancelled. By the time I found another taxi company, I had missed my flight. Completely unacceptable way to operate. Okay. Could any taxi service or taxi driver in DC ever get a good rating? I doubt it, unless you're a clueless tourist that doesn't know the distances very well. I mean, have you SEEN the way they drive? They're either blasting at 20 mph over the speed limit and running red lights (to get home, to park at Whole Foods, to the mosque or to a taxi driver hangout) or they're going 15 mph under the speed limit and riding the brakes (that means they have a fare, also known as a Mark in this city/town.) Yellow Cab drivers purposely drive slow and try to catch every red light (and in turn screwing up traffic all over the city) so that the meter will keep on clicking. Calling into Yellow Cab (which also produces an extra fee) is always a fun experience, either the call taker is almost impossible to understand or they're rude--sometimes it's both! And a few minutes later, you might get a call saying that your taxi has arrived--but it hasn't! I would suggest walking like Francene says. You will indeed get there faster. Also be sure to watch out for extra sneaky fees that all DC cab drivers try to slip in. And if you do decide to ride with Yellow Cab of DC (or any cab in this city)... leave the tip to a minimum. They already make enough being part of the most corrupt taxi union in the country. read more

One star. 40% of the time, I've received a cab & gotten to my location within 1 hour. The other 60% of the time, I am: 1. Within 1 hour late. 2. Furious for not receiving a cab after I was called by the dispatcher saying my taxi was ready. 3. Caught in a fight in arabic with the taxi driver.* 4. Harassed by the taxi driver.* 5. Harassed by the phone operator.* 6. On hold anywhere between 25 to 35 minutes, because every other cab company I call has a busy tone or the number is no longer in service. *Last Sunday I had a date at Zaytinya. Thinking ahead, I knew how difficult it would be to order a cab. I knew that the likelihood of me being late due to a problem with yellow cab was high. So, to combat my chances, I decided to be ready extra early and order a cab extra early so that I would have at least 45 minutes buffer time. Now, ladies... you know how crucial 45 minutes of getting-ready time is. In order to spare those 45 minutes I had to start getting ready an extra hour early. I decided I couldn't go wrong by calling a cab at 5:45pm. Possibilities: the cab could come right away, ferrying me to my restaurant by 6:15pm, thereby making me 45 minutes early. Or, it could come at 6:45, putting me right on time. Either way, I would unfortunately have to be ready by 6:00pm in order to prepare for the Worst-Case-Scenario. 5:45pm. I called the cab, was answered after 10 minutes of being on hold by operator #115. She politely took my information, asked me if I was "ready now" to which I replied yes, told me I would be called when the cab was dispatched. 6:15pm: I received a call from Yellow Cab, with their pre-recorded "Hello, your taxi has been dispatched and should be there within ten minutes" shtick. 6:30pm. Still no Yellow Cab. I call back, wait on hold for five minutes, and I am put through to operator #137. I told her I was checking on an old request, and she put me on hold to pull up the details. When she came back on she said "the cab's outside of your house." I was standing behind my door, and peeked out to see if perhaps there was a taxi anywhere within a two block vicinity. "No, there's no taxi here" I replied. She said back, incredulous "There is no taxi outside of your house?" "No." "Hold on, let me get a hold of the driver" On hold, again. 6:40pm. I'm starting to get nervous because chances are the taxi driver is not around the block, and I need to be there within 20 minutes. The operator comes back on. "I spoke with the driver, he said he's 5-7 minutes away. " I was enraged that I received a call from the dispatch 25 minutes earlier saying that a taxi would be there any minute. When I relayed my concerns to #137, she shouted back at me "Didn't I just say that he's 5-7 minutes away?!" I couldn't believe my ears. Then, before I could get a word out, #137 hung up on me. 6:55pm, still no taxi. Debating whether or not to catch a bus to Union Station and hail a cab there. The amount of time that it would take to walk to the bus stop, wait for the bus, catch a taxi, etc, would still make me late. Suddenly, I get a call from a random 301 number. Sure enough, it's where-the-fuck-are-you taxi driver, who said "Are you still needa yellow cab pick you up?" What?! "Yes, I still need a taxi." "Okay, I be there in ten minutes" I think I started to shoot steam out of my ears. When I told the taxi driver that I received a call from the dispatch saying that he was going to be there half an hour ago, he said, "What you want me to do? You wanna cab or no?" I waited. 7:05pm. Still no taxi. I call back Yellow Cab. Operator who-the-fuck-cares picked up and told me she'd locate my taxi. While I was on hold, the taxi driver pulls up in front of my house. I get in, and he drives off. I hang up. 7:06pm. The taxi driver asks me if I called Yellow Cab back after I spoke to him. Looks like dude wasn't too pleased. I told him I did, and he didn't understand why. I repeated my story twice until I got fed up. 7:10pm. I picked up his accent, and spoke back to him in Arabic. Dude may have crapped himself; his whole temperament with me changed. I found out he was half Eyptian and half Sudanese. We discussed pleasantries until he asked me where I was going that I was in such a rush. I told him I had a date and reservations for 7pm. He said "is he Egyptian?" When I said "No, Pakistani" he said "Muslim? He's going against his religion." From there the taxi driver insisted I must be sleeping with my date, and that this man was unholy. We got into a heated argument. I was surprised the taxi driver didn't pull over and force me out of the car. 7:25pm. Almost 2 hours after the initial call, and I made it to my destination. If only there could be zero-star reviews. I have lived in DC for many moons, most of those years on Capitol Hill. I generally can't walk out my front door and hail a cab, so I rely on what I can do by phone. Yellow Cab consistently ignores my cab orders, whether made by phone or by Internet, whether a 5 am trip to National or a 7 pm ride to NW for dinner. Not only do they not show when they're supposed to, they don't notify you in any way. Hate. An apologetic dispatcher once told me that given that all of their cabs are independently owned, individual drivers can decide whether or not to take a particular booking. On a whim. As in your reservation means absolutely nothing. I am convinced my millions could be made in providing DC with a reliable, consistent, responsive cab company. Booked a cab 48 hours in advance. Received email and text confirmation. Waiting for cab at 430 in the morning, still receiving texts telling me it's coming. I check my email and see they canceled it on me at midnight. But i was still getting texts telling me it was coming. I had to be at airport by 5, so I called and the lady was incredibly rude and just said it's canceled. We aren't coming to get you. I have really enjoyed the consistency and easy use of these cabs. Having a picture of the driver along with certifications gave me a little bit of security that perhaps I have not found in other city cabs. I also like that the drivers made using your credit card really easy by having the swipe machine on the backseat. This is why cabs in DC get a bad rap. Because they deserve it! I am never able to find a cab when I need one, and trying to rely on the dispatch service is useless. I ordered a cab last night online, waited 30 minutes, called to ask what the timing was going to be, was told that they were 'looking for an available cab' and that 'once a cab became available, I would be notified'. So, I went outside to see if I could simply hail one. As I stepped on to the sidewalk, I got an automated call that my 'cab had arrived' and to 'press zero' if I still wanted the cab. So I pressed zero and proceeded to look around, wondering where, exactly my cab was. There were ZERO cars on the street. None. I walked to the corner. No cabs. I walked back, no cabs. After waiting another 30 minutes OUTSIDE in the blustery cold, I call Yellow Cab again. The same dispatch guy who I had spoken to earlier told me that the cab driver said that I was a 'no show'. I told the guy that I had literally been standing outside for 30 minutes, since BEFORE the call, and not seen a single cab. The dispatch guy told me that I was lying. Fortunately, at the moment where I was going to absolutely lose it at this guy on the phone, a cab (NOT A YELLOW CAB) saw me standing on the side of the road and pulled up, saving the day. Bottom line is that I waited an hour (30 minutes outside alone in the cold) for nothing. And I was accused of lying. Never again. read more

I have been commuting to NYC for a great internship for the summer and today this cab company decides to act crazy. I have requested a cab on three consecutive days utilizing the Taxi magic app. Each time cab #344 was assigned and canceled by yellow cab. I had to contact the company by phone to get a vehicle reassigned. On the fourth day I requested a cab using the app an hour and one half prior to my departure time, again cab #344 was assigned. Apparently it picked up a passenger which the company indicated was me and dropped the passenger off at the requested destination, definitely not me! When I contacted DC Yellow cab by phone the operator #31 was rude, indignant and told me to stop repeating that the job had not been completed although he consistently stated it had been. In short DC yellow cab is unreliable unprofessional and at best passes for a way to hide arrogant sleepy employees that apparently cannot be employed elsewhere, which is a shame because at some point it had many good employees including my father as a part timer. read more

If it was possible to rate this company lower, I would and it would be rated in the negatives. Today was the second day the Yellow Cab Company was a no show. I called and confirmed a pick up time with them last last night and they did NOT show today. It was raining, I stood out in the rain for 40 minutes. About 30 minutes of that I was on hold trying to check on its status. I had a doctor's appointment this morning that I've been on the waiting list for 3 months. Because I had to cancel the same day, I am getting a $50 fine. Frankly, I feel abused, upset and stressed. Especially now that I may wait another 3 months to get another doc appointment. I do not take this lightly (obviously) and believe all should know the company is unreliable, forgetful and above all irresponsible. On a side note - a month ago when I called a cab to take me to my occupational drug test, a giant medicine bottle of weed rolled out from under the seat when he stopped to drop me off. I spend at the very least $500 per month on cabs. Sometimes more unfortunately. I do and will continue to do my very best to not give ANY of it to Yellow Cab of DC Sometimes it takes them a full 30min to get a car out to me even on a random Tuesday. I mean c'mon I'm in Georgetown. On a number of occasions I've been standing right outside of my house and the car will pass me by without even looking for me or my address. I had to call them 4 times to get a cab back out to me. I couldn't believe such a thing could happen 4 times in the matter of 1.5hrs. Their service level SUCKS. PRO: They have cars and will get you where you want to go. Even if you're late or they don't pick you up the first time around. Whenever I need to take a cab into VA I call RedTop. I called Friday afternoon, February 18th, to secure a cab for a Saturday early morning trip to the airport. On Saturday morning, when the taxi failed to arrive, I called again. And despite repeated assurances that the driver was on the way and/or near my house, he or she never arrived and I missed my flight. I actually missed the entire trip and have incurred $75 in change fees from the airline. I expected a much higher level of service from the company, and I am quite disappointed. If they had simply told me that they would be unable to deliver me to the airport or that they needed more than a day's notice, I would have made other plans. Instead, I have lost a trip that cannot be repeated and time that cannot be regained. read more

After hearing so many horror stories of pretty much all DC cabs I was really worried about my cab showing up on time as I had a train to catch. I booked online and it was super easy. And my cab showed up 10 min early :) I got to Union Station fairly quickly. The downside is DC cabs don't take credit cards, but I already knew that so had cash. Overall I had a good experience. Here's to hoping it wasn't an isolated incident. The cab station at union station coming home, however, was a complete shit show. I cannot even imagine that late at night. I needed a ride to the Reagan National Airpot on an early Sunday morning because the Metro did not run early mornings on the weekends. I ordered a taxi the night before from the website. I specified 6:10am as my pickup time which was earlier than I needed, but I did so based on some negative reviews. At 6:02am: Received an automated phone call telling me that they are trying to locate a taxi for me and they have not successfully dispatched one yet. At 6:05am: Received another automated phone call telling me that they were able to find a taxi for me. I was provided with a taxi number as well. At 6:10am: Received another automated phone call telling me that my taxi is on the way and it will arrive within 4 minutes. At 6:14am: Received a final phone call, as I saw a taxi approaching to my door. In the end, the taxi was 4 minute late, but since I was expecting much worse, it actually turned out to be a very pleasant experience. The driver was courteous and the ride was pleasant. read more

Wish I could give it negative stars. Horrible. I call cab companies on a regular basis, and on this particular morning I called at 5:00 AM for a pickup ASAP. I didn't have to really leave until 5:30 AM, but I wasn't taking any chances since most cabs are hard to find that early. 5:30 AM comes and goes, and I called back to check on the status of my request. THEY HAD CANCELLED IT, claiming that they called me when they were arriving and that I didn't answer. Couple things wrong here: 1. I have a cell phone and I had no record of any missed calls that morning. 2. I WAS STANDING OUTSIDE WAITING FOR THE CAB. When I told the operator this information, he tried to argue with me instead of just immediately sending another cab. I literally RAN to the metro station so that I would make it to Union Station for 6:00 AM. Even though Diamond Cab Company isn't much better, Yellow Cab left me hanging when it really counted. Very, very poor customer service. 1/3/11: Update. I had to go to the ER last night. I had cash on hand to get me there, but not to get back, so dread, once I was discharged, I had to call Yellow Cab because they're one of the few companies that offer that option. Surprisingly, the cab was there in about seven minutes so I didn't have to wait too long in the waiting room with a bunch of crazies. Just had to give them one star credit for not letting me hanging this time. read more

The reason Uber is winning is because your service is slow. I requested a taxi for immediate service to the airport. 15 minute wait. I live 5 mins from Union Station and 5 mins from your Headquarters. Unacceptable, took Uber 6 mins, and the driver understood the urgency and drove accordingly. read more

Do not use these taxis. I am missing my nephew's graduation because these asses lied and said they dispatched a cab. I called and the idiot dispatcher said, "Oh you got picked up already!" I should have lugged my bags and my baby onto the street to hail a cab, but I didn't and our trip to congratulate my nephew is lost. Only because I won't write something on the Internet that can be construed as intent do I end this review. read more
