I'm pleased to say that the outcomes so far have been far better than I had expected, with very little pain after surgery and smooth and quick recoveries. I was swinging a golf club after 6 weeks, and was playing golf just 8 weeks after my first surgery. I had a similar and even better result, with even less pain and quicker recovery time, after my second surgery. I would certainly recommend Dr. Jurek to anyone for shoulder replacement surgery, and after having worked with her through my two surgeries, I am confident that I would recommend her for any orthopedic procedure within her expertise. She is really terrific. She made me feel comfortable and relaxed every step of the way, talking me through everything. Dr. Karmali is extremely kind, attentive, gentle, humble, and calming. She went to UW Med School, so extra points for that! Another cool thing is that Swedish uses MyChart, an online personal health record system where you can see your medical history, appointments, messages from your doctor, etc. Strangely, when I called to make an appointment, the receptionist said that Dr. Karmali did not have any openings until January 2015. However, when I went online to MyChart, I saw multiple openings between now and the end of the year. I ended up making an online appointment with Dr. Karmali for early December and cancelling my phone-made appointment with another doctor at Swedish. I am so excited to go see Dr. Karmali again soon!

After my motorcycle accident in 2009 Dr. Karmali checked up on me and worked with my medical records from Harborview to continue with my pain management care. To this day she still works closely with me on this care and has been very good at keeping an eye out for my health and well being and continues to work with my pain management doctor at Harborview. Dr. Karmali set me up with MyChart (available to all Swedish patients) when I moved back to WA and through that I am able to discuss issues with her without having to make an appointment to go into the clinic (I'm already there enough as it is!) and she is quick to get back to me usually same day but definitely within 24 hours. She even responds on her days off and to me, that is complete dedication and proves just how much she cares about her patients. I have recommended her to a couple of friends and they love her as well. Dr. Karmali is very knowledgeable and caring. If she is unsure of something she will investigate the issue to ensure that you get the best possible care. She is just an amazing doctor and an even more amazing person.

He was thorough, he answered questions, he made sure we had all the information we needed. He did the surgery and my husband's arm looked so much better than we thought it would. I'm 52 and totally understand the complications and risks with this type of surgery. I felt what could go wrong went wrong. The problem with a lot of people is they do not understand that when something goes wrong, almost all of the time it has nothing to do with the surgeon performing the procedure. Things just happen. Dr. Keem has always been professional and straight forward with me as well as the staff that works around him. I knew the risks and accepted what happened as part of that but Dr. Keem is great. I'd go to him again (this was my second procedure with him...the first being 7 years ago). The staff at the surgery center was amazing. All of them were great compared to my previous visit. I'd like to give a huge shout out to all of those who cared for me but the one that stood out the most was Morgan. She seemed so much of a real person than a robotic nurse that i had experienced with my previous surgery. She was easy to talk to and seemed relatable to my life experiences. My experience with OPA Orthopedics was completely unacceptable…read more I was referred to OPA after a serious motorcycle accident on July 18 with multiple fractures that required orthopedic follow-up. They received my medical records and imaging, then lost my file. After more follow-up, I was told my records had also not been properly sent over for review, causing even more delay. Then, after weeks of waiting while I was recovering from broken bones, they finally determined that they do not even accept my insurance. So OPA lost my file, failed to process my records correctly, delayed the medical review, communicated poorly throughout the process, and then only after all of that figured out that they could not see me because of my insurance. That is an unacceptable level of incompetence for a medical office dealing with injured patients. This was not just an inconvenience. I needed timely orthopedic care after a major accident, and their administrative failures wasted weeks of my recovery. I would not recommend OPA Orthopedics based on my experience.
