Cue the alarms that would make most people quite nervous because every girl loves her hair, and you don't want to be caught between her and a "short hair don't care" gone wrong moment. Mehr made me feel comfortable from the start as it was very clear that she knew what she was doing. I got a deva cut and she also styled it afterwards using the deva products. Though excited, I was extremely nervous to have my first Deva cut. However, any apprehension I had was lost nearly the moment I stepped into Mehr's salon. I came here to get a Deva Cut, as I shaved off all my hair two years ago and hadn't had a trim since, but I just needed a shape up. After having to have someone open the door for me (building is locked after hours, and none of the phones were being answered) I found my way to Mehr, who was very sweet and welcoming. I sat down in the chair for a consultation and showed her pictures of what I wanted. Essentially just a rounder shape. Very simple. She began the dry cut, which wasn't curl by curl like I've had before, but still very small sections so it didn't bother me. She also checked with me about every step she was taking before cutting. However there were a couple of times (the front bang area, and crown) which I specifically said multiple times were tighter curls than the rest of my hair and not to cut those short because when washed, they'll spring up shorter. Well, she did cut them. My hair actually looked nice dry, but then after the wash and improper product application, my hair came out looking shrunken, cotton-like and just a mess. I actually had to take the conditioner myself, and apply the product to my hair, and tell her that she needed to be heavy handed with the product (which I had already explained when she exclaimed how much product was in my hair while washing it- I literally said "black/kinky hair has to use a lot of product, applied in a raking fashion, in order for there to be curl definition"). Even after this she continued to barely glazed my hair with leave in conditioner- I watched in terror knowing that wasn't working. After she applied the product and sat me under the dryer for about 30 minutes I was left with a shrunken uneven mess. I lost about 4 inches which in curly world of hair is A LOT and we both were awkwardly quiet after looking at the final result. I'm very disappointed because all she offered was for me to come back so she can ship my hair some more in a few weeks if I still didn't like it. She gave me her card, then ever so quietly stated that the cut would be $70. Even SHE was questioning charging me full price, and felt bad for it because she knew the cut was terrible. I don't think I should have had to pay full price for a complete botch job, and I would never come back when my hair was ruined the first time around, so I'm not sure why she offered to cut my hair again knowing very well it was terrible the first time. Long story short: Super nice lady, but does not understand how to cut or style black/African American curls at all. Learn from my mistake. read more
