Although I live in Southern California, my parents live in Santa Barbara, so I am often up there visiting. My mom recently had an Upper blepharoplasty performed by Dr. Taban, who is an oculoplastic surgeon. If you know my mom, you know that she is VERY thorough in her research and would never have any type of procedure done without extensive background research, she would ESPECIALLY not have any type of surgery on her face, like an eyelid bleph done without being 150% sure. I was a little freaked out when my mom first told me that she had scheduled an initial consultation with Dr. Taban for a bleph, because she is a bit older and I wanted to make sure that she was taken care of throughout the process. I went with her to her to the first meeting with Dr. Taban, and was very impressed with him and his professionalism. I felt more confident when I saw the notebook full of articles that he has written educating other surgeons on his specialty. Dr. Taban is a board certified oculoplastic surgeon, and I honestly would not have trusted my mom's face to anyone else but him. He made her feel very comfortable and listened attentively to her concerns and addressed all of both her questions and mine. What stood out the most is that he gave us realistic expectations rather than try to sell us on something. He is very matter-of-fact in his demeanor and I personally trust people that are this way, because they tend to lay their cards out on the table. He explained to us that he always focuses on making his patients look as natural as possible with the most minimally-invasive techniques and after seeing his before and after pictures I believed him. This was very important to both of us, as my mom did not want to look unnatural after the procedure. As we both felt extremely happy after meeting Dr. Taban, we scheduled a surgery appointment shortly after and a bleph is so easy that the appointment was booked the following week in his office! No surgery center or hospital or anesthesia. It's more like an in office procedure, almost like getting Botox! The bleph went well and she didn't feel any pain. We were in and out of his office in an hour. We saw Dr. Taban the next day and also a week later after the bruising had gone down and my mom could not be happier with the results. During the first week he called us personally to see how my mom was doing and if she had any questions - which was AMAZING! Dr. Taban is truly an amazing oculoplastic surgeon who does an amazing job and he is just as great with his follow up as he is during the consult! I was diagnosed with Graves' Disease in 2007 and since then, I had bulging eyes which were always burning and tearing. I would wake up each morning miserable and in pain. I had 2 other surgeons prior to meeting Dr. Taban. I had several tests and procedures done, but only lasted for a few months. I was so sick and tired of the pain I had to face each day, not to mention how horrible my eyes looked. I've been under Dr. Taban's care since 2009. Dr. Taban did the orbital decompression on both of my eyes in 2010 and my eyelids retraction in 2011. Healing wasn't that bad. Bruising was normal and I was amazed by his work! I recently had blepharoplasty of my upper and lower eyelids. It's been almost two weeks now and the results are already FANTASTIC. Because this procedure was cosmetic rather than medically necessary for me, I had mixed feelings about doing it . I vacillated for a long time and then decided to get a couple of consults to help make the decision. The office environment of several of the other doctors I saw made me feel like I had entered a plastic surgery mill. In contrast, Dr. Taban's office was small and his staff very responsive. in our first consultation, when Dr. Taban asked what I was expecting I said that what I wanted primarily was to look less tired (and younger, of course) and I also hoped that it wouldn't be obvious that I had had work done on my face. I previously had a chalazion (an inflamed lump/ cyst) on my lower eyelid, that came from a stye. After a while of having it, I luckily found Dr. Taban to remove it since it wasn't going away on its own. I wasn't particularly fond of the idea of surgery, but Dr. Taban reassured me on all of the details of the procedure, making me feel at ease and in good hands. We then scheduled the surgery and soon enough, the time came and everything couldn't have gone any better. All I had was a small dosage of Xanax, which is so much better than going under. He preformed the surgery beautifully, leaving me looking like nothing was ever there. I feel so blessed to have found Dr. Taban because he completely removed the chalazion that was making me feel bad about myself (something no 15 year old girl should feel). Dr. Taban is an excellent physician, and the city of Santa Barbara is VERY lucky to have such a talented ocular surgeon right across the street from Cottage Hospital! I was referred to Dr. Taban by a top-notch dermatologist. I had a bump on my upper eyelid......and needed to have it biopsied and removed. Dr. Taban kindly and clearly explained the options .....and I chose for him to remove it with a local anesthetic....that very day. Now, this is where the the true talent takes place: he very carefully performed this tricky procedure.....next to my eyelashes.....and in minutes he had painlessly---totally painlessly and FLAWLESSLY --- removed this bump---- and voila!.....I was on my way.... After a virtual consultation (due to COVID-19) for upper blepharoplasty, I travelled to his office for the procedure, where he and his staff were warm and hospitable. Dr. Taban clearly explained how the procedure would work, as well as aftercare instructions and potential complications (I experienced no complications thanks to his great technique and practices). The surgery itself was very quick and efficient, as was the healing time (around 75% of the swelling was gone by week 2). I took my son to see Dr. Taban after seeing various other doctors when he has hit in the eye by a wild pitch at his baseball game. My son was experiencing double vision with not a full range of motion in his eye. He had a CT scan and was cleared by the Dr. who reviewed the scan with nothing out of the normal when in fact you can see the fracture on the CT scan. Dr. Taban explained the CT to us and it was determined that it was necessary to have an orbital blow out fracture repair. Dr. Taban and his staff made it all so easy and the surgery was done within a week! Within a few days my son's vision was back to normal and he is back to normal. Dr. Taban is a perfectionist committed to excellence. Due to Bells Palsy 25 years ago, I have facial asymmetry, which I tried many times to correct through Botox injections. For sometime I had been living with reduced vision in both eyes due to drooping eye lids. I was referred to Dr. Taban for squamous cell skin cancer surgery repair of the lower eyelid. The procedure involved taking a slice of skin from the upper eyelid and grafting it onto the lower lid...so I was a bit nervous about the outcome, and just hoped for a "normal" looking eye. Dr. Taban did a great job on my surgery for my eyelids. My vision was occluded from droopy eyelids and I can once again see the ceilings of rooms when I walk into them. My surgery looks very natural and I just look well rested now. Along with fixing my droopy eyelids, he fixed the bags under my eyes and got rid of the extra skin above my eyelids. Dr. Taban treated me for a condition known as ptosis, where the skin of the eyelid grows to a point where it becomes more difficult to see as wide a field of vision as you should.
