The produce is definitely a great improvement from what it was in the 90s and early 2000s. It's more consistent with what you can find at Knapp corner or Cascade. But this place isn't as nice as those locations. The alpine location isn't a priority to corporate so their items aren't as good and it's not as clean or organized. This Meijer is so much more than either of my local Meijer. The signs are better, their departments are more organized, and the efficiency of the self check out area was on point. If we lived locally, we would certainly be here a lot. Lots of different departments including grocery, jewelry, clothing, electronics, toys and sports gear. Big downside is it can get crowded. Also, despite the great signage everywhere we had some issues in the produce section finding where certain things were, like tomatoes. Lines for checkout are a bit long, but efficient. They don't dilly dally but it still can take quite some time to make it through the lines. I made a bathroom pitstop before leaving and it was clean, but I can only speak to the women's bathroom. I'll definitely be back when in the area to see if I can get things that aren't stocked at my local Meijer. read more

The store on alpine is the worst. Huge display of Family Sized boxes of cereal with signs all around it for 2.99. SCAMMING PEOPLE FOR 3 DAYS. ACTUALLY RINGING UP AT 5.59. Employee's are shit and have no respect for customers. For example two employees were yelling at each other and made me and my friends very uncomfortable. Dork on parade: I was jazzed about going here because Meijer started in the Grand Rapids area and because I have happy childhood memories of shopping here (we still use Dad's giant yellow corn pot). Wasn't part of the plan but I picked up a whole roasted chicken ($6), dinner rolls ($3) and sushi (who knew they had sushi?) ($12). The sushi was quite good. The chicken was, too, but that's hard to mess up. Only one bottle of soda water on the shelf. I don't mean one brand, I mean *one bottle*. I wandered through housewares but they didn't have what I needed. A very helpful lady walked me over to look for two items. Some of the clientele were of the mullet-and-mayhem variety but I don't hold that against Meijer. I've never seen/heard a person blasting a personal playlist at full volume on a phone while grocery shopping before, so let's put a positive spin on it and call that exposure to a new experience. The attendant at the self-scan check-out was very helpful and friendly. All prices scanned correctly. It's been a very long time since I've been in a Meijer so I can't compare this one to other stores. I was three-star satisfied with my visit. read more

Honestly, I went to this particular Meijer as a little girl with my mom and dad so it does bring me back to my past unfortunately, in my grown up experience, it does not make me feel as fun and happy!! Especially where customer service is concerned!! This review is mostly based on my husband and my latest experience! We believe we were ripped off of $50 basically!! At first, the line at customer service was moving so slow, there was literally like 2 people helping 1 person and another employee just standing around doing nothing!! When I worked at Meijer, they told us to always be busy and occupied with something at all times so maybe standards are just going down the drain everywhere, IDK!! But I do know that it is really dumb to have all the workers attending to one person when you literally have a line forming!! My husband and I left the line to go get some of our products we needed!! I wish we hadn't come back!! We were checked out nicely by someone at the register and asked for cash back there too, which she actually gave us because I put the cash directly in my purse pouch!! We still needed a little extra cash though because they do have a limit with each transaction so when we got two money orders, we requested the $50 and my husband paid by debit!! He didn't give us the change at that time and it should have made me wonder because usually they give you the cash and then later give you the money order alone and the receipt but somehow I just guess I was thinking it would all be together!! Well, I must have had my head in the clouds or something that night because usually I check but maybe I just thought my husband had taken it or something and he thought I had it! We later realized, neither of us had it!! So, check and recheck your stuff people especially at the night shift at this store!! Or be smart like us and never go there for customer service again!! Ya, we got home and later realized we didn't get our change which got us first arguing that one of us had it or had lost it when in reality, he probably just didn't give it to us!! In seeing all the reviews, I see it is very clear that this particular branch really doesn't care about their image or the quality of services and it's sad!! Fred Meijer the owner is rolling in his grave at how far this company has gone since the quality back in the day, seriously SMH, people!! We frequent meijer for our weekly grocery shopping trips. We prefer to go to the standale location, but when we have other stops to make.....we usually end up at the alpine store. During our most recent trip, we experienced everything that normally makes us choose standale over alpine. Empty shelves everywhere, particulalry on sale items. The entire shredded cheese case was empty of the brand that was on sale. Not one single bag. This was the case for many items in the store, both sale and non sale items. (Grapes, broccoli, cauliflour, sparkling water, cheese to name just a few during this visit) When we were done shopping, the checkout lines were long and slow. To meijers defense, they had many lanes open....but service seemed slower than normal. Looking around at other shoppers, we could tell that everyone was feeling the same way. Overall, this is not our favorite location....but it works in a pinch. read more

It's an ok supermarket with a wide variety of stuff. Even live fish. Something I'm not familiar with in Europe. Although the variety is big, the food looks fresh and I can't compacte the prices I'm not a big fan. Had trouble funding stuff, missed things which is strange in such a big store. I was looking for a camping hammock, but couldn't find one. I flagged down an employee (I think named Shelby?) who helped me look, and even made a call to someone else to help us. She went above and beyond and was super kind. Come to find out, she normally works in the clothing department, AND she had already finished her day and was on the way home! Despite that, she STILL stayed to help me! Thank you! I also had a wonderful experience with a cashier named Lori, who helped me check out, and helped me try to figure out who had helped me earlier. As a new resident of Michigan I found that Meijer (in general) is a pretty awesome store. I'm sure some would compare it to other big box stores, but anything that changes my perception as much as they have deserves a good review. I'm new to the whole "return the can" game so the first time I came in to play I decided to wander around afterwards. Not only did I get to pick up all my replacement beverages but getting money back on top of it? Count me in! Their prices are really good compared to some of the other stores like it around town, and conveniences like self checkouts and great selection of lactose free items makes the extra $0.50 on some items TOTALLY worth it. I never have to ask where anything is located, but always have some help if I need it. Their pharmacy is always nice, neat, and organized. Very fast and efficient. This Meijer is clean enough and has most stuff you need. There are some good friendly staff here. Though not all. Was in on Wednesday night May 18. I asked 3 people for help and got none. Seth was actually on his phone, while Ron C and Cat D were deep in conversation to the point where after I asked them for help three times they were not alerted enough to realize they were probably on the clock and that a guest was needing help. Loucinda was actually the most helpful. She was at the front door and assisted me with what I needed. Mikki was also very helpful. To the rest, I say, get a move on. This location is utter crap. Tried to call the pharmacy. disconnected 3 times. The 2 I got thru I waited about 10 minutes for someone to answer and they just hung up both times. Then when I got to the store I waited almost 10 minutes for them to tell me they didn't have the medication in stock. Took almost 20 minutes to get thru checkout after picking up a few things. Last night, Wednesday, October 4 I was shopping at the Meijer located on Alpine with my three children, ages, 7, 4, and 4 months! As we were leaving the store, we were stopped by the greeter John J. He asked if he could see my receipt for the items that I purchased, I accidentally handed him the wrong receipt. He snapped instantly and said, "I don't see the chips on this receipt." I looked at the receipt and replied, "I'm sorry sir, I accidentally handed you the wrong receipt."I then provided him with the correct one. Next, he literally checked every item on my receipt, and in my shopping cart to ensure every item was accounted for. He held me almost hostage for more than 20 minutes and did not attempt to stop and check any other patron! So when I asked him why he stopped me, he responded, "I'm stopping everyone." I responded, "No you're not. Ten people have walked by to exit the store and you haven't said anything to them." So I asked if I could speak to his manager. The manager, Amy K, came to address me, and I told her what happened. Her response was unnerving too. She said, "He stops who he feels he needs to stop." I asked her, "What do you mean, he stops who he feels he needs to stop?" "Did you all think I was stealing, or is it because I'm a young black woman with three children." At that point, I asked to speak to the supervisor, Michelle P. She came and introduced herself, and I explained to her what happened. She said to me, "Well he randomly stops people, sorry if you feel targeted but there's nothing I can do, and you can feel free to leave the store at anytime." At that point, I stood there and waited to see how many people he would stop, he said something to a guy who had an open box in his cart, the supervisor Michelle P, told him it was the maintenance man, and he could go. He also stopped a woman walking out with a cooler, he glanced at her receipt and let her go. I left after the supervisor Michelle P, told John J, "If she doesn't leave, I'm going to call the cops." Not one time did he stop anyone else with just regular groceries in their cart, which is all I had. I felt humiliated, and I'm traumatized by the event that had taken place. It was tantamount to a stop and frisk. I've never been in a situation like that. My 7 year old daughter is traumatized. After we got in the car, she asked me, "Mom why did that guy only stop us, I thought he was trying to take you to jail, I was scared, I never want to go to Meijer again, she said." The whole experience was extremely embarrassing. It had taken place in front of several shoppers and they stopped and gazed and I'm sure they assumed I had gotten caught stealing. read more

for the most part, i really like meijer stores. but this location is from hades. i made the mistake of going at about 5pm on a weekday in july, and it was a sea of sunburned, tank-topped, dirty looking people buying economy sized sodas and frozen dinners and whatever else, screaming at their zillions of children running around; all this is done while they were having really loud conversations on those horrible nextel walkie-talkie phones that chirps every eight seconds. felt like i was having a panic attack the whole time i was there. highly recommend stearing clear of the alpine location. visit the beltline (cascade?) store instead. read more

This Meijer is constantly backed up with its check out lines. Either they are under staffed during peak hours, or do not know how to staff during peak hours. I've watched individuals leave their cart of groceries and walk out because the wait gets to be too long. The pharmacy at this location is a joke. The last 3 times I have attempted to use it have ended terribly. They have been out of my medication, and didn't let me know until after I waited an hour for them to fill it (usually they check 1st to see if they have it in stock before telling you how long it will take to fill), another time, my pain medication was actually shorted 5 pills!! The most recent visit, it was around midnight, not a single car around but mine in their newly renovated 3 lane drive through, I pushed the help button and 5 minutes later someone says they will be with me as soon as they can.....12 minutes later I see employees just milling about, I'm pretty sure they forgot i was even out there, so i said screw it and left. How are they going to handle 3 lanes of cars when they can't even service a single car?!! read more

I have been shopping the Alpine Ave. Meijer for 20 years. Out of all the all the Meijer stores this one is my favorite. From the fall of 2007 though spring 2008 the Alpine store received a sixteen million dollar renovation upgrading the store to Meijer's latest store format. Included in the renovation was a total rework of the grocery section upgrading its aisles from 13 to 18, an enlarged produce section, the addition of a drive up pharmacy, new garden center, and a 20,000 sq. ft. addition on the retail side of the building. I liked shopping the Alpine store very much. But after its remodel I like it even more. The retail offerings are on par with other newly built Meijer stores and better than the new Wally World down the street. However if you are looking for a great supermarket than the Alpine stores grocery section is it. Even though the Standale meijer is closer to me and is handly for quick trips for milk and snacks, I prefer the Alpine location esp. when doing the big shopping sessions on payday. As for the previous two reviews, I certainly do not find them helpful. Stores should not be judged by the aesthetic appearance of it customer base. A customer is a customer as long as he/she has the money to pay for the things purchased. The day Meijer turns away customers for not looking like fashion models is the day I stop shopping at there. read more

I love Meijer, but this one is horrible. literally every time I have gone here they charge me full price for products that are on sale. Just went through my most recent purchase receipt from this Meijer, they charged me $7 over for 4-5 products that were on sale. I keep having to go back and have them refund me. Not sure if it's a weird scam? Or if the employees are horrible and not putting in the proper sale prices in the computer. Make sure to look at your receipt! read more
