I would not recommend the meijer bakery. It was my friends birthday (on New Year's Day) and she had a rough year. We wanted to make her cake funny with a light hearted meme that read "beep beep you sad f#%*. Happy birthday!" Through this difficult times it was memes and baked goods that got us through. We asked the bakery if they could do this and the lady said yes. When she was done writing, the woman didn't even show us the finished cake. She taped the box shut and when I say tape I mean like multiple pieces of tape like we had to pry the thing open. Which when we opened it, it all made sense. It's because this lady who decorated our cake KNEW what she did. She knew she gave us an ugly cake. She knew. She could've showed us the cake and asked if we liked it but nope she already knew we wouldn't because she knew how much she utterly screwed up. In all reality all she had to do was scrape off the ugly and just start over but nope we took the ugly cake to our struggling friend and we started the new year with an ugly cake. The cake itself wasn't bad tho.

The person who took my order had asked me what color flowers and what I wanted written on the cake. So someone had to have remembered me. The employee then told me it was at the Indianapolis location. So we drove another 30 minutes north to their other location, only to be told the cake was not there either and they had no record of it. We drove a total of 2 hours both ways for a cake that did not exist, when they could have simply told us the truth. We missed our daughter's bday dinner. Do not trust Southport bakery for important orders. Sending someone to a distant location knowing their cake was not there is messed up.

They told me the olive bread is only sold on Wednesdays. I've never had it, but it sounds good. The bread I love is the focaccia. They sell it in a square loaf for $5. I like to eat this bread plain, with cheese, or make a sandwich with it. I also purchased a chocolate croissant (I love me a good chocolate croissant) and it was so flaky, buttery, and filling, very delicious. I warmed it up a bit at home and enjoyed every bite of it. I was skeptical at first, but their website says the stand is city-approved and fully compliant with Indiana State Cottage Food Laws and they are registered with the Marion County Health Department. Plus, they sold out in just 3 hours on their grand opening day on June 28th. We arrived just before they opened on a Saturday and there was already a small line forming. The shed is just big enough for one person to browse at a time but was fully stocked with breads and cookies. While you can browse the shed when you arrive, you can also pre-order online. You can pre-order up until Wednesdays and then pick up your order on Saturday which is what I did. I went with the dinner rolls (so good), triple chip cookies (also good), and cinnamon rolls. I wasn't going to get the cinnamon rolls but I read that most people are ordering the cinnamon rolls and it's their most popular item. I'm not trying to miss out on anything, so I added to cart. I was chatting with them while I picked up my order and they mentioned that they had so many pre-orders for cinnamon rolls that they didn't have any leftover to stock in the shack. They also said they're looking the double the size of the shack in the next 2 weeks. In terms of payment, they accept Apple Pay, Zelle, Venmo, or Cash App or you can leave cash in the lockbox. Parking was a little hectic. They have a few spaces just inside their fence along the driveway in the grass but you're driving in and out of the people waiting in line. There's also some alongside the fence in their grass by the street. Or at least that's where people were parking when I was there. I haven't tried the cinnamon rolls just yet but they look amazing. I also appreciated the freezer instructions on the packaging since my eyes were probably bigger than my stomach. All of the packaging is beautiful and so nicely packaged too. I checked out their FB page a few hours after I visited and they were sold out by noon.
