Meijer Pancake Cake: It's no secret that I love a good stack of pancakes, especially when they're topped with a bunch of cake like toppings such as whipped cream, frosting, chocolate sauce, and cookies. What if instead of making my pancakes more cake-like, I just got a pancake cake? Meijer solved my dilemma by offering this cake at my local store. Though it creates the new dilemma of, should it be called a pancake cake or pan-cake? Joking aside, it is a white cake covered in copious amounts of vanilla buttercream frosting. I had been debating picking one up for a while, but I couldn't pass up the opportunity when I spied it on sale for a measly $6! Cutting into the cake revealed that there's also a layer of frosting separating the top and bottom portions of the cake. Starting with the "syrup", which is piping/frosting gel, it adds an interesting texture to the cake, but sadly no maple flavor. To be fair, maple flavor was not advertised nor expected, but it would have been a unique touch. I found the white cake to be relatively average as it was not quite as moist as some of the better cakes I've encountered. Lastly is the delectable vanilla buttercream frosting. It reminds me of a line from one of my favorite movies (Star Wars). "He's more machine than man", except in this case, it's the cake is more frosting than cake. It's thick, creamy, rich, and oh so sweet. The artistry of this cake was phenomenal, but the body of the cake falls short of something I'd get from Nothing Bundt Cakes. Meijer for me is above average, they don't have the best prices but they also don't have the worst. Store is clean and well maintained. Stock is normally rotated and produce is good. The staff is reasonably friendly and customer focused. I do not hesitate to shop at Meijer. read more

They will not stop increasing their prices on a weekly bases. There is no reason for the increases. They do not care for their customers at all. I have my issues with the owners of the company price hiking everything to a point to where our groceries end up $40 to $70 higher per week. $8.19 for a pack of the good hotdogs is ridiculous some of us don't like the pork/chicken combo of hotdogs the Angus is the best and yet they go from $5.99 to $8.19 absolutely INSANE!!!!!!! It makes no sense to keep hiking all these prices. You just went up AGAIN on the canned catfood and a lot of the pet items. Smaller portions HIGHER PRICES. read more

Being from Michigan, Meijer has stood out for me as my favorite retailers for, literally, decades. On a recent visit we drove out of our way to go to this location because there was something at this location that none of the other Meijer locations in the area carry. No worry, I LOVE Meijer. Conveniently located off of the Gene Snyder, this location is very easy to see from the expressway and to get to once you get off the expressway. One of the things I really like about Meijer is that, for the most part, everything is in roughly the same location in every store. Yea, the store layout may be reversed (grocery on the right instead of on the left), but your mind easily adapts to that. The staff we encountered were helpful, and even walked us to find a specific item. The store was clean and well stocked and organized. I do love the amount of items they carry that are Michigan-based, and their Frederik's line of foodery is every bit as good as the national brands. While I'm still not a fan of the self checkout (I LIKE to talk to cashiers), these are laid out and handled well, unlike a competitive retailer whose primary color is blue and doesn't care about its customers. Keeping shopping carts stocked inside seems to have become a burden for just about every retail/grocery store in the world. So much so that I have taken to grabbing one in the parking lot on the way in. Given a choice, I'll always take Meijer first first. It's been that way for over 40 years. read more

Meijer is an excellent addition to the area. It offers a wide variety in a good selection of different products that other stores may not have. Loved my Meijers however they now tell you what they will fill vs will not regardless of dr prescription. Now it's a waiting game on prescriptions since their "new" vender cannot tell them when meds will be coming in. They may or may not get them within a week (reg monthly meds). One of their workers literally forced their way into the bathroom stall while I was using it​ then tried to play it off like it was an accident, I'm just saying you must know that someone is in the stall if it's locked and you take a running start to break through it. This company is the model the Walton's used to create Walmart. Think of it as Walmart with less Satan. They have a good selection of groceries, decent values, and their non-food merchandise is pretty okay. I don't have a need for much beyond food so I don't venture outside the grocery department often. I have rarely needed something and not found it there, though, and their prices aren't that bad for every day items. They do have a rewards program that evades my comprehension. What I like most about Meijer is that they have wide, wide aisles so you don't have to wait for someone to move so you can move. I can think of an Ohio based grocery chain where this is a consistent issue for me. They also have a decent deli and butcher. It will never, ever be as exciting to me as a small local place but most of the people I cook for (just me) aren't worth the trip across town for every day stuff. For transparency's sake: I worked here during the summer when I was at University and for two years after I graduated. This Meijer is a blessing to our family, we drive out of our way just to shop here, If we ever move I hope we live close to a meijer, It is my favorite store right now in the whole world where I'm able to save money through mperks, and their sales are amazing, everyone at meijers is so nice, Their produce is always good, the selection of organic and non, dairy and non dairy, gluten and gluten free, vegan and non, world foods, they have a super selection for everything, I love getting their store brand everything I've tried is meijer, true goodness, or frederick is great. The only negative I could possibly say is the bathrooms can be quite messy, but that's not meijers or the workers fault that certain customers don't know how to flush, or use a trash can, I just avoid public bathrooms nowadays anyway. I do pick up, and shop in store equally both experiences are always beyond satisfactory, the only thing I wish they would carry is a nice range of lewis bakery shop bread, but even if they never carried it I will always be a loyal meijer shopper. read more

We all love our Targets. I'm not a big fan of Walmart, Costco, or any of the other big box stores. I do love Meijer. One thing that completely blows my mind about Meijer is how pleasant my experiences are there. I'm not sure if it's because it's a Michigan chain(and everyone I meet from Michigan or that grew up in Michigan are the nicest people). I stand by my statement of Michigan being the nicest state in our country. It might be because it's such a large store that always has a full parking lot but it seems like the people are hanging out elsewhere other than the aisles of the store. Everything is spread out to where people aren't clustered together. I've never had the first issue navigating this Meijer or any other. Some things are pricier at Meijer than other stores so beware and do your research. One item that I visit Meijer for is my CeraVe moisturizing cream. Dry skin? No problem... pick up CeraVe(Make sure it's the cream and not the lotion though). I can normally find all of my hygiene stuff at Meijer cheaper than every other store. Most Meijers also have a decent International food section. It's worth walking down that aisle. The meat section almost always has some type of deal. The bakery is also worth checking out. I do think the fruits/veggies can be skipped. I'm not sure what the issue is but every Meijer I visit, the fruits/veggies are always lacking. The general store area is like any other store. I have found certain things in the garden section that I haven't seen at other stores. I remember once a few years ago looking for a specific weed killer. Home Depot didn't have it. Lowes didn't have it. Meijer had it! I still can't put my finger on exactly what makes Meijer better than most other general goods/grocery stores but I love going there. Maybe it's the hybrid way of doing things. Some of their things you can buy in bulk while other things aren't bulk. That's one of the many reasons I despise the buy in bulk membership stores. This is my primary grocery store. It is typically mostly clean. The staff are always friendly. The produce is normally the best quality that I find in this area for pretty competitive prices. The only places I normally find with better quality are specialty produce shops that have significantly higher prices. If you have mperks they have coupons for lots of items, occasionally including their precut fruits and veggies. Their meat department is always well stocked and staffed as well read more

Ordered a cake here about two years ago. After a horrible experience with a local bakery this past weekend. I felt I needed to leave a review about Meijer Bakery. I've ordered cakes from another bakery several years in a row, went to Meijer for this cake and regret not going this time. I had a very specific request and went to talk to the bakery. They, without hesitation, said absolutely not a problem. My son is a scuba diver and he wanted a cake with a scuba diver on it. Jason, who works in the bakery department, is very talented and did a wonderful job on my sons cake. I gave him a picture to go by and it was exactly like the pic. I was in awe on how wonderful it looked. Highly recommend and will use him and Meijer for all future cake orders. read more

I like Meijer in general. Most folks familiar with Meijer stores agree that it is one of the best, freshest, and largest selections of produce in the area. The only thing better may be Whole Foods Market, but has more locations around town. Compared to other big boxes, and in addition to the awesome produce selection, I like this store for the entire selection of food in general... good variety. In particular, there is a great aisle of just international products. Also better than other big boxes, the selection of toiletries, cosmetics, and medical related items is larger than most. Good floral department as well. Hidden treasure: Of all places, they have a good selection of car audio accessories, radios, speakers, cables and connectors for installation. While sale items at Meijer are good and plentiful, regular prices can be high sometimes... ridiculously high... you really have to watch out. This is one of the negative things about the store. Other negative: The electronics department is lacking and the men's clothing seems to be geared toward grand parents and with styles about a decade old. When looking for... whatever... This is the only location I can find REAL unsalted chicken broth. Some chicken broth say unsalted, but when you read the sodium content it still has a huge amount of sodium. This could be due to the way they process the broth or other ingredients they add to it. Even Swanson makes another unsalted pack that looks similar to this one, but actually contains lots of sodium. Chicken broth will always have sodium in it, due to the natural sodium in meat, but the broth should never have more then 50 naturally. So if you are cooking for someone on sodium restrictions like someone elderly, always read the sodium content even if it says unsalted. I'm just happy I can find the one under 50 sodium at this Meijer's. This location is really impressing me with their choices of exotic fruits. They also have the frozen Ezekiel sodium free bread for dad. I'm also happy they now have the beyond ground meat/beef for me. This is awesome for some last minute burgers on the weekend. read more

This store is going down hill fast. I don't think that I have seen anyone that looks like a manager in months. The shelves are no longer neat and full. Prices on many items have gone up much faster than other stores and don't get me started on the checkout staff. Are any of these folks taught any bagging skills? In the past we have done 85-90% of all of our shopping for food and everyday items at Meijer. I will have to say the times they are a changin'. They have treated me well! I tried their grocery shopping for you service while I have a broken foot and the lady that was picking my groceries was so nice and texted me if something wasn't at the store that i picked online and offer an alt. After I could walk (kinda and with a knee scooter helper) they were so kind to make sure I could handle a small cart while "walking" around the store. I needed the movement and wanted to walk while shopping. I only was in the grocery side because by the time I got to the back I was pooped and I could hear it was poring outside! A couple of workers offered to help me load my car in the rain and I declined at my own peril. So 2 other nice men also offered and i allowed them to help! Still was an exhausting trip. *this trip was 2 days after the Kroger shooting and the whole store was drop a cup quiet. Even the 2 ladies with kids kept them close and quiet! Very well behaved little dudes! So I think that's why at almost every isle an employee came up and asked if I needed help or couldn't find something. I wanted to visit this Meijer several times before leaving a review. I have to say that I love the fresh vegetable selections here. There is a variety of bulk vegetables available and they are always fresh. I like that they use local farms for a lot of their items. The prices are a bit more or the same as my Kroger, but the quality is much better. I have shopped other items in the store, and they can be pretty pricey. I would say the prices are similar to Kroger. They do have an Mperks app which I suggest getting. You can see the ads and specials, plus scan the code on the app and for every $100 spent you get $2 off your next purchase. The deli is usually very slow and the staff is not very friendly. (My Kroger deli workers are always extremely friendly and nice). The quality of their fruits and veggies is what brings me back here every time. Well worth the price I pay. And I can deal with the deli staff as they are not unkind. Definitely worth giving this place a try. read more

Meijer's is a great GROCERY store. I stress "grocery" because the layout of the entire rest of the place is so confusing, that you will daydream about shopping at Wal-mart and perusing their simplistic layout while staring at Bubba in his sleeveless shirt. Great produce section. They have everything from soy cheese to kumquats. As for everything else, just ignore it. Of all the stores that Meijer operates in Louisville I like this one the best. The people there are the friendliest and they seem to take pride in talking to their customers. Other Meijers I have been to the employees do not ever engage their customers as they walk through the store. Above all this one is the cleanest and best laid out of the Meijers. I live right across the street from the Dixie Highway store and will make an effort to go to this one whenever possible. This location always has a wide selection of fresh produce and seldom, if ever, runs out of items that are in the sales ad. They also stock a wider selection of clothing, housewares, and pet supplies than any other Meijer that I have encountered. Also, their staples like coke, pepsi always seem to be on sale where my local Mejier rarely has $1 name band 2-liters. Where this store really sparkles is their check outs... they always seem to have ample cashiers and keep their lines moving quickly. I can't say that for their competition... or their other stores. I don't understand why the store out by where I live can't be held to the same level of service as this one... but that's another review for another day. read more

Managers are aweful and crew are clueless. I came in one night to get some sugar for my kids cotton candy machine well I ended up wandering around looking at stuff and noticed that they had their Christmas stuff 70% off. Since my husband was going the next day out of town for work they had an ax body spray gift pack in with the Christmas Christmas and a poof for the shower. The poof was in a Christmas box with all sorts of Christmas color poofs. When I checked out neither item rang up 70% off I informed the cashier he just looked dumbfounded at me and finally got the manager. I could already tell about the way she was walking up that she was not going to be any help she was kind of it was kind of hostile. The manager was an African-American lady with a bun hair pulled back in a curly bun. I explained to her that they were on sale for 70% and she tried to tell me that that they were a different price than what was online which meijer's price matches their own prices. But she said that several weeks back that it was $25.99 and they had a BOGO and I'm thinking in my head well how do you remember this one specific item when you guys have thousands of items in the store and this is a seasonal item but you remember one specific item price. So she say so do you want or not with an attitude. I didn't get it well then I said well what about the bath proof she's like this is a sponge not I can see that. Anybody she said anybody could have put that in the Christmas stuff no they couldn't build the whole display for the Christmas bath poofs not only that even without the 70% off it didn't ring up the price that was on the box I let it go and just paid for it and left I think it was very unprofessional of her and if she doesn't like her job she should probably find another one or miles should invest in some people training for their managers. after I got home I looked up the price of the items and she still was incorrect two weeks prior whatever the sale was it was the right price that was listed online not the price that she pulled out her ass.
