The rainbow sugar cookie is a great crumbly delight. The icing is not super sweet, didn't stain my teeth, and honestly the cookie doesn't even need it. This is a great cookie for those who hate super sweet sugar cookies and instead prefer the technique and recipe to show. Only complaint and I mean the only complaint is the interior and smell. It was just my husband and me heading to our Old Forester tour, so we kept it light--but if we'd had more time, we would've gone for a full dozen. It's still the best bakery in the city and next door to Sunergos Coffee. Bonus. For years I would have to get up at the crack of dawn in order to get to Nord's early to purchase the donuts my wife and I like. Fortunately you can place an order ahead to make sure you aren't disappointed. Just realize that you have to call them to place an order as they do not have online ordering currently. I called yesterday at around noon but got the answering machine and left a message. They close at 2 pm but they actually called me back at around 3 pm after they closed to take my order. That cream is so delicate, so expertly concocted, full of flavor and simultaneously rich without being not overpowering. The French fry donut and cinnamon twist are both amazing as well. And the maple frosting, my personal favorite donut flavor, is unlike any other maple frosting I have ever tasted! It has a depth and nuanced flavors like I've never had! The long johns are also exceptional. Essentially, everything at Nord's is stunning! But I'm still dreaming about that Holland cream! The employees were so kind to toss in a few freebies when they learned I was a first-time customer on a donut quest. The interior of the store is that of a classic, old-school bakery, and the atmosphere matches the quality of the product. Both of our donuts were really good. Cream filled and freshly made and very fluffy. It was $2.50 for the two donuts. Be sure to come earlier if you want a full selection. Not happy. This cake put a big damper on the surprise. I was very careful driving this home and I used gentle movements the entire time when moving it. Literally just fell apart and looked terrible when I opened the box. Cake was sort of dry too. Nothing special, but boy is a cake ugly when it just collapses on you. I made a trip here right around New Years and they were closed for the holidays. About a week later I was back in Louisville and was able to stop by. The service was very friendly at this feel good local bakery. I looked around and there was a day old section in the corner with discounted baked goodies, which was cool. I picked up a bag of shortbread cookies from this section as it was only a few minutes before they closed. As usual, my focus is the donuts. They were reasonably priced, so I bought 5 and they threw in an extra one. They were sold out of most of the other donuts, which is a good sign. I left and later on I got to indulge in the donuts. They held up well over time, but I did not like them. They were heavy, dense, and heavily glazed. The donuts did get a little better with some heat, but the flavor never was great. Overall just not my type or preference of donut, however the cookies were good and I think this bakery probably excels in their other baked items. read more

8:30 on a Saturday morning, and there was a line out the door and down the sidewalk. The inside of the bakery was not very big which is why people were lined up outside the door waiting for their turn to go inside. The ladies working the counter knew or recognized almost everyone in line and almost everyone was getting a dozen (or two or three dozen) donuts and a cake. It's been a while since we've been to Nord's Bakery so we decided to go today and fill up on some goodness. It was a very good experience so I had to write an updated review. It's a must to go early in the morning. Just like today the waiting line is out the front door 6 people deep. Once inside you get to view all the luscious goodies there have in the cases. The popular varieties usually sell out fast. My favorite are the Bavarian Custard filled. We got some of the round ones with Chocolate Icing, but the Long John ones were out so we just got the plain Long Johns with Chocolate icing. We also loaded up on the Toasted Coconut, Bacon Maple and the Raspberry Filled Long John's with White Icing. There were 4 ladies working behind the counter and they were all very friendly and super helpful. We walked out with two dozen doughnuts and a loaf of fresh baked bread for less than $20.
