Since our primary residence is elsewhere in Michigan, we have the opportunity to compare the Meijer in Manistee to other store locations. Without a moment of hesitation, we can say that this is a great store. There are two primary drivers to that evaluation. The first is the store itself. The store is new, and is very well maintained. It is well-arranged, and reflects all of the layout improvements that Meijer is working to implement at other locations. Most importantly, the store is always clean. The second factor in our evaluation is that the employees are great. They greet us, and treat us as welcome guests. I have had employees walk me to other locations in the store to find items we were seeking. They are very helpful at the check-out area, and quickly provide assistance when needed. read more

This is not my hometown Meijer but I am a big Meijer fan. This is the first store where the self check-out attendant paid attention and actually helped. She walked up and scanned my heavy items so I didn't have to awkwardly try and hold them myself. She was pleasant and caring. This lady deserves kudos and I hope others learn from her! read more

Again, associate, Jennifer, was more than accommodating, going out in the store while I waited on the phone for her to see if they had 2 items I needed that other Meijer stores did not. She found both and took them to the service desk for me to pick up ! So helpful and pleasant about it. ! More than great customer service and that's why I like Meijer ! read more

I recently went to their optical center. I had an 8-10 minute exam, the optometrist was in a hurry to get me in and out and seemed annoyed when I asked questions. I went to pick up my glasses and the lady behind the counter just handed them to me and asked me to read a card they had that had several different kind of type sizes and she didn't ask me which I could read or how well. She handed me the case and that was it. I said do I need to sign for these? She said no. I told her they were sliding off my face and she said oh well I can adjust them for you. She did that and sent me on my way. I felt that they didn't really care whether the glasses were correctly fitting and just wanted to get the sale. I won't return to them again. read more

They don't bother with COVID masking in the store. The sign says masks required, but they don't enforce it in the store. If you are with someone at risk, I wouldn't shop here. read more

Was VERY disappointed by staff's lack of enforcement of pandemic protocols. While there was signage indicating that masks were required, no one prevented those without masks from entering. A good 1/4-1/3 of those inside (including a few employees) were not wearing masks. Few were following the one-way aisle arrows, and apparently most people in the Manistee area have no clue how far 6 feet is. I realize that not all of this is the store's fault, but management and other employees should be doing a better job of protecting the health of their customers. And shoppers need to follow the proscribed protocols; they benefit everyone. read more

Let me just start by saying if I could leave zero stars, I would. When it comes to location and cleanliness of the store, this Meijer is great. They usually have everything you need and it's nice because it's a newer store. The set-up flows well and they have ample self-checkout lanes if that's what you're interested in doing. HOWEVER. When it comes to employees, good luck. I'm excluding the pharmacy out of this, because everyone in their department is awesome and so helpful with scripts and questions. Really the only people I have to complain about are the cashiers, as in most of them, and the service desk people (but not all of them because there are a couple that are really helpful). Additionally watch out for little old miss in the back of the store usually working garden, electronics, outdoors area. You'll know her when you interact with her. First off, I went to meijer to print off some pictures, nothing too private, but pictures of my house, my dogs, niece & nephew, etc. When they are being printed, the lady helping me behind the desk decides it's appropriate to flip through every single picture I printed out- about 12 in total- MAKING COMMENTS TO ME ABOUT EACH PICTURE AND MAKING DISAPPROVING FACES/NOISES. It's NONE of your business!! Apparently in 2019 it's okay for this type of behavior. My second run in with her, my sister-in-law and I were trying to purchase a video game for my nephew, farming simulator, of all things. Of course the games are locked, not a big deal, we are patient enough to wait for someone to get the key to unlock it for us. Again, she decided to show her true disgusting nature, first of all acting like we were trying to steal the game, when in reality we were looking at features it included on the back. And no offense but, you aren't getting that game off there unless your biceps are the size of PAUL BUNYAN'S. Then she was annoyed when she asked us nastily, "Umm, can I help you guys with something?" Of course featuring her disgusted face like she caught us committing a felony. When we told her we'd like to purchase it, she took over 15 minutes "getting the key" and forced us to check out at the desk there even though we had more shopping to do. Just keep away from any females in those areas so you don't have to even DEAL with feeling like you're doing something illegal or feel like having your private information gone through by a bridge troll. When it comes to cashiers, you can usually get a pretty good idea if you need to change lanes or not by the obnoxious behavior most of their cashiers exhibit. Just take a listen down the lane and you'll know what I'm talking about. I called in to talk to one employee about when's a good time to come into the store now that covid-19 is in our area. I live with someone who is extremely high risk and need to go in at a time that basically the store is at its least busiest times. However I'm not just going to ask anybody at that store because NO ONE is interested in giving you a helpful answer. That is except for their possibly 5-10 decent employees. When I asked to speak to said employee, the person on the phone informed me they can't just give personal calls to their workers. Also that they were extremely busy at that time for him to come off the line for the call. I explained it wasn't a personal call and I could call back, but she could have cared less. She asked me how I knew this employee and what I wanted to ask him. As soon as I was done explaining this of course the baby starts crying, I stop talking for all of 2 seconds to grab my crying baby and the person on the phone just says well thank you for calling meijer and hung up on me. Not hey can I have them call you back. Nothing. Even when I asked her what times do they slow down, like later in the evening or early in the morning she says it's hard to tell. Sorry but I've worked in retail and I can tell you right now there were definite times they are busier and slower. But again, this is Manistee Meijer we're talking about. Just don't interact with anyone at the store and you should have a good experience. And if you do have to interact with someone, YOU'VE BEEN WARNED! read more
