Clean store, many weekly sale items, quality stock, many clearance goods and friendly staff.

This store always has items that my home store doesn't seem to have in stock, so I will stop here after work and get those items. The staff is friendly and courteous, and it doesn't hurt that some of them are former or current students. It feels good to support businesses that are helping our kids succeed. You don't not only as a customer, but as a person who shops for other people, this has to be the worst the worst place to shop anywhere around. For such a big name store you can never find nothing because there is nothing on the shelf. It's absolutely Ludacris to go in there to try to shop for other people and then have to tell them I'm sorry they don't have this and they don't have that and this is how it went yesterday it happened this way many times before but now I thought I need to get this out there. I don't know why that store keeps in doors open to be honest with you. It is so poorly managed. Do they not have people that stocks the shelves do they not have people go around and check to see what needs to be restocked this is not the first time this is always at this Meyer. But now go to the Meijer in Valparaiso and it's a whole different story. It is so wonderful to shop there because their shelves are stacked that place is in order. What a damn shame for such a wonderful name, meijers and have such a crappy empty shelf store. I will avoid that store as much as I can, and I will encourage people to go to Valparaiso to the meijers there are go to Kroger in Laporte because I'll tell you they've come a long way and their shelves are stocked. read more

Before driving 15 minutes to get to the Meijer Pharmacy, I checked the "Meijer Pharmacy" ( not the store) website. It said OPEN. The hours listed for the pharmacy are 12-12 am, every day. I was at the pharmacy at 8:10pm and they were closed. I called and spoke to a manager. He said that it is only open until 8:00pm and insisted that is what's stated. I suggested he look at the website. He said he was too busy and handling four other things. I like the staff at the pharmacy and have never had issues with them. They are always helpful, kind, and professional. I would think that the website would reflect the actual hours. Afterall, many of the clients coming to the pharmacy are probably not feeling well to begin with, stressed, and may make an extra trip just to get medications only to find that the pharmacy is closed 4 hours before advertised. read more

Tired of being treated like a criminal every time I leave this store. I don't use self checkouts for the specific reason that I can't be accused of being a thief. Yet every single time I get harassed at the door for my receipt. I've called the manager and had a 20-minute conversation with him and he basically told me that I just have to tell them I don't participate in that but the problem is they still treat me like a criminal. So probably going to be done shopping at the store since it has been on multiple occasions I've dealt with this. I quit shopping at Walmart years ago because of this. I guess Amazon will start getting my grocery money too and not just for everything else........ The reviews were not friendly for this place, but I came anyway because stores everywhere were hurt by the pandemic. What I found was nothing abnormal. Just another store without the extra staff and a very clean area. I was also able to find my baby formula that's not even in my local stores. This caused a happy dance that would have been seen by any random customer. I was not greeting once and I didn't care. People were working, helping customers, not standing around talking or on their phones. So of course I would come back, but not for the service, but for the clean store and items that I need. read more

I went in to get help at the deli. I had one customer ahead of me. I had taken a ticket and was waiting. The deli clerk then decided to send the other clerk on break while I Stull waited for help. Frozen food section in shambles. Very poorly stocked their and in grocery. I don't know what the issue is if it's supply chain or inner management issue but finding basic items is a joke. Awful service. On Friday night, the store was chronically understaffed. The self checkouts were clogged and ours barely worked. When I told the assistant manager, she blew me off and told me to talk to another manager. He blew me off as well. I've been going to meijer since I was a kid and this is BS. There are a few times on a business trip when it's just plain boring. That usually happens in the evening after the day's work has been completed, any social events have wrapped up, and your hosts are the lucky ones who get to go home to their family. My host and I went to the Shoreline last night for dinner and some really great microbrews. And after returning to the hotel, I decided to venture out and do a little retail browsing. Meier was one of the stops. And now that the new Super Walmart has opened up nearby, previous reviewers should note that Meier has probably moved farther back in the pack regarding any comparisons. I'm actually a Target man myself and to me Meier has more of an improved K-Mart feel than anything. At the same time, the people were friendly and helpful both when I bought an item and afterwards when I decided to return it. The store itself is huge, has a great selection of this and that, and has very competitive prices. It was also fun to wander around for awhile and consider the possibilities before I headed off elsewhere into the evening. read more

They recently remodeled the whole store. That's the good part. The bad part is they rearranged much of the layout so prior familiarity with where things are located is out the window. The worst part is inventory management. They have none. Vast areas of empty shelves pepper the entire store. For days or even weeks at a time. The paper products area has virtually no pricing on display. They may want to blame all this on the pandemic and for a long time this might be right. But now go to any competitor. Walmart for example. I hate Walmart but their shelves are always stocked. Get with the program Meijer. read more

The layout of the new store is horrible. The entire middle is broken up into different directions,so hard to shop so I avoid it. Lotion, makeup isles are short,broken up and tight. Pop and liquor is the same. Store is still better than Walmart but not much. Shelves are still bare,alot of prices are not visible. I will never go to self checkout no matter how many they have. I would like to return to Meijer. I enjoyed the work and my coworkers. The only thing I didn't like was the point system. If you were late from your lunch or break you had points scored against you. If you accumulate 12 points in a 12 month time period you are automatically terminated. If you call off too many times you have points scored against you. Even if the call off was legitimate they will still score points against you just the same. I worked at Meijer from August 2013-January 2014. I resigned from Meijer because I was trying to seek other employment. I also resigned due to transportation issues. But I am willing to seek alternative transportation such as a cab or a bus. If I have to walk I will do that too. The coworkers were great. The girls behind the desk always gave me a ride home when I worked late. I am looking forward to working back at this company again. I'm changing my review for Meijer because lately I've not been happy with the meat and deli. First thing is I'm still happy with the prices and Saturday specials. The meat however has been going bad quickly. Within a day to two days hamburger meat and steaks are already starting to turn brown. I typically buy my meat from the meat counter where it should be the freshest but that hasn't been the case lately. The problem with the deli is the lack of cleanliness. I had to ask the employee to wash the slicer because you couldn't see the blade through the left on cheese. It was disgusting. She had to use a tool like a paint scrapper to get the cheese off the blade and it took her nearly 20 minutes to completely clean it. Oh and the bathrooms are still filthy. read more

I thought this was a grocery store. But it's a super center where you can get a little of everything but no real selection of any one thing. Being on vacation, all I wanted was some snacks. As far as chips goes, it was pretty much Frito-Lay, the store brand of Frito-Lay varieties, and Jay's. Plus there are not enough manned checkout lanes open. Not a fan anyway, they have no more cashiers than any other chain. (Our local chain, "Al's" always has cashiers and baggers.). I wondered in the other day to pick up a few things, it ended up being about $260.00. We waited in line for one of the 3 cashiers, she was great by the way. Prior to check out we went by the Meat Department, they had chuck roast in their "Full Service Meat Case". They were gorgeous. They looked so nice I didn't even look at the price. I patiently waited for the clerk to pause from weighing holiday hams to help me. I told him which roast I wanted and he reached in with the same dirty blue latex glove that he had handled dirty boxes, plastic wrapped hams, and pricing labels with, and grabbed my roast. No wax paper, just his dirty glove. I told him I changed my mind. I will just get everything at Al's in the future. read more

Absolutely horrible! At 4:30 pm on a Friday they only had 2 registers open! 2! Called manager and got the same answer as always "we had people call off" This is their go to answer every time this happens, which is a lot! It's absolutely ridiculous! I was recently at Meijer in Michigan City and upon checkout was treated horribly by the cashier. She began by complaining about the woman who had checked out before me. She then insulted me for using foodstamps to pay for my groceries. She refused to let me pay by foodstamps and purposely embarrassed me in front of others in line. They need to retrain staff about the rules of paying with foodstamps and how to treat all customers fairly. What an awful woman. I wish I had looked to see her name tag. She was blonde, middle aged, and said she had been there for 16 years. I will never go back. read more

Absolute! Worst! Meijers I've EVER SEEN! I work for Instacart and when orders pop up for M.C. Meijers, I skip! Shelves are always empty! I have started having my regular customers order from other stores because it's not worth going in hoping the groceries they want will be there. The final straw came seeing the usual "problem with supply chain" signs hanging through the entire frozen section and hearing their employees complaining that the entire freezer in back is overflowing with products that the manager feels no need to get put out on the floor. They have another company they hire to come in and help but from what I've seen it looks like they are as fed up as the regular employees. I wouldnt bother going in there. The "manager" Mina is no help at all he blames the employees but my guess would be his poor attitude he shows towards the customers is most likely the same poor people skills he shows towards the employees. read more

Meijer is a great alternative to Walmart, with step function improvement in quality. I love the produce section. Meats are always of the highest quality. I had an issue with this store a few years ago, and it was promptly handled in a manner that exceeded my expectations. My only concern is that I've been there a couple times when it was busy and they had limited checkouts. One Saturday morning they had only four checkouts open. I can honestly say this place is a joke. The way this store is ran and stock replenished is pitiful. As a former employee, I was in charge of finding solutions for these issues. I worked 10 hour shifts overnight directing a crew to get it replenished for the next day but time and time again other shifts were not doing their part. Second shift was responsible for replenishment of weekly sales items, which were always empty. The politics here and non accountability to management on first and second shifts who had corporate ties was disgusting. I came up with an idea to have 2 nights continually running backstock to cover the lack of ambition or accountability by 1st shift Inventory specialists and that was shot down. Every morning I was responsible for talking to the general manager about what was done and walked the store but was blamed for not getting 1st and 2nd shift responsibilities done. Very unfair. To make a long story short, I lost my job because of our GM lack to hold any other manager responsible except for me. This place is awful. Have fun with your broken water main. After living in Grand Rapids, Michigan, I am pretty loyal to Meijer, and I hate Wally world, so when we moved to a new town, we looked for the nearest Meijer to shop at. Unfortunately, when I go into this particular Meijer, the staff and customers alike just seem sad and slow. The shelves are often low on sale items, and on peak hours there is the constant dodging of staff trying to stock shelves, blocking aisles, not really caring that they are in the way, talking amongst themselves. The last time I had to stand outside the egg cooler for 5 minutes while the guy stocking the eggs inside the cooler slowly filled the rack. The exterior grounds, parking lot are dirty and littered with trash. The trash bins at the entrances are always full. I just don't like shopping here. I will drive farther to go to Stevensville, Mi for a clean, bright store with happy employees. read more

Broad selection throughout with reasonable prices. By FAR the best selection of vegetables and fruits in the area, and the freshest! Meats are good too but finding someone to serve you at the meat counter is difficult. Go to Jewel for the best and least expensive meat. read more
