Have been going to this meijer since it opened and it is my favorite! Always has so many employees around the store. Its 85 degrees out and they have a sweet greeter at the exits handing out ice cold waters, the self checkouts are never closed like some other stores arounds town, I have never had to wait to checkout even at busy times at the store. Recommend this location!!

Salad went moldy before the sell by date, even though it was stored properly.

This is the SECOND instance in the past 5 weeks where I bought a spinach and berry salad at this Meijer location and it was moldy by the sell by date. A little back story: my husband is a grad student at Purdue and I am a grad student at IUPUI. We live separately. On weekends when I am up in West Lafayette I will sometimes stop at this Meijer to buy a salad on Sunday night to take to work with me Monday mornings in my little cooler lunch box. The past two times I have done this the salad has been moldy days before its sell by date. In the first instance, I contacted customer service asking for a refund. They told me I'd have to take it back to the store, and since it's a product that can be purchased with WIC funds I'd need my receipt showing that I did not use WIC to purchase it. (Sorry to those who use WIC, but if you spend your WIC on salad that turns out to be moldy you can't get a refund . . .) Of course I didn't keep my receipt, so I'd have to go back to the same Meijer with my moldy salad so they could look up the transaction so I could get my $6 back. Thanks, but I'm not going to keep a moldy salad until the next time I'm in West Lafayette so I can be refunded $6. In the first instance, there was mold all over the top of my salad and I immediately threw it out. In the second instance, the mold was more towards the inside of the salad and I didn't notice until after I had started eating it. Luckily I usually look at my bites of food before consuming them! I realize that this method of refunding is a corporate policy, but this Meijer shouldn't be selling food that goes moldy well before the sell-by date.

Spicy crunchy roll from the deli. $7.49 decent enough.

ALWAYS, ALWAYS check expiration dates on groceries. This store doesn't keep stock fresh and up-to-date.

This Walmart's service is atrocious. As someone who has worked in customer service before, I cringe…read morealmost every time I ask someone for help. The associates put forth almost no effort to help customers - at best, they'll tell you what aisle something is on (having previously worked at Walgreens, my expectation is that they should go with me and help me find the item or offer an alternative if it is not available), and at worst, they'll simply tell you that it isn't their area of expertise and either not recommend another associate to help or promise to go get the other associate and then never come back. The customer service associates are blase or outright unfriendly, and overall interacting with them is a frustrating experience. I do appreciate Walmart's offering pickup and delivery, which is the main reason this Walmart didn't get 1 star, but today I even had a negative experience with that. In the app, I selected to allow substitutions, but upon receiving an email about one substitution in particular (they gave me inferior Great Value brand bacon instead of choosing a different higher-quality brand), I decided to give them a call and ask if something could be done about it. I don't know what I was expecting. The associate on the phone was unhelpful and essentially told me it was too close to my order time, even though according to the app, my order was still in the "handpicking" process and I had received the email only about 15 minutes before (and had been on the phone for several minutes by that point). Now I'm stuck with a brand of bacon that will cook down to almost nothing (*their* brand of bacon, I should add) instead of the good bacon I ordered. I don't know, maybe after working at Walgreens, I have some outsized expectations of customer service. Maybe it's asking too much for the customer service associates to actually act like they *want* to help you and *want* to make your experience at their store a positive one. Or maybe, just maybe, Walmart should train their employees to be a little bit nicer and actually put forth some effort. Just a thought.

This Walmart location has consistently provided some of the worst customer service and overall…read moreshopping conditions I've experienced. I typically shop early in the morning due to my work schedule, and many visits involve blocked aisles, unattended stocking carts, and a general lack of organization that makes the store difficult to navigate. The pharmacy and grocery sections are especially problematic, with aisles frequently obstructed and ongoing spills on the floor that are often marked with a cone but not actually cleaned up in a timely manner, creating an ongoing safety and accessibility issue. I've also witnessed shoppers being confronted or blamed for normal store traffic, including an incident where an elderly couple was trying to retrieve the last item on a shelf when an employee stepped in front of them, took it, and made a dismissive comment. Checkout operations are also inconsistent. During early hours, only a few self-checkout lanes are open, and I've seen employees using them for personal purchases while customers wait in line. On another occasion, employees lingered at the registers after completing transactions, talking loudly and inappropriately while delaying customer access. Customer service at the desk has been equally frustrating, with employees ignoring approaching customers or suddenly stating the area is closed as customers arrive. Attempts to address these issues through surveys or management have resulted in generic responses rather than meaningful change. What makes this especially disappointing is that I previously worked at a Walmart store roughly 15 years ago, where clear standards were strictly enforced for customer service and store safety. We followed the "8-foot rule," requiring employees to acknowledge and greet any customer within range and offer assistance, and we were also held to a strict "no spill unattended" policy where hazards had to be actively monitored until fully cleaned. In my experience, spills were never left sitting with just cones placed around them--we were required to stay with the spill or ensure it was actively being addressed. Our management also took accountability seriously; employees who failed to meet customer service or safety expectations were required to wear a loud cowbell during shifts for a set period of time, with longer durations for repeated issues, reinforcing awareness, responsiveness, and customer interaction standards. Compared to that standard, this location feels like it has lost focus on basic professionalism, safety, and customer care, resulting in a consistently frustrating and disorganized shopping experience.

Does everyone in West Lafayette grind their own? Aww. Too bad. No coffee beans either. Oh well. At least you can eat that pack of organic strawberries upstairs, selected from the teeny, tiny fresh organic produce selection. Can't win 'em all!
