I WILL give this place a 2nd chance, but this review focuses on the lone pie we got - a classic pumpkin pie. For the price and knowing MeLisa has a local cult following, I expected the best pumpkin pie I'd ever had. I was SO excited. So the rating is not based on a bad pie - it's based on a so-so pie. It was okay. It was decent. And boy was that disappointing. Could have gotten the same or maybe better at 1/3 the price. Everyone with me agreed, unfortunately - it wasn't just me. Service and ambiance was great. Super nice folks. Loved meeting MeLisa, who stayed at her store until midnight the night before baking pies for folks to pick up the day before Thanksgiving. I am SO rooting for this place to continue to thrive. And I'll give them one more shot. What a amazing pie shop that I have discovered during my stay in The Colony, TX! I found this cutesy bakery on Yelp! I was searching for bakeries near my Airbnb to purchase some thank you gifts. And I landed on MeLisa's pie shop! The bakery was quaint with vibrant paint colors & a beautiful display of pies! I immediately honed in on the Oreo cream mini pie from the refrigerated display. My husband & I tried the Oreo cookie, Salted Caramel Dutch apple, Key Lime, banana cream, and peanut butter mini pies. I loved all of them, except for the key lime pie. For some reason, the key lime filling was too runny for my liking. My FAV ones were Salted Caramel apple & banana cream pies!! The apple one had buttery & cinnamon-ey crumbles atop. And the pie had the perfect shortbread crust and soft pieces of Granny Smith apples enmeshed with nutmeg & cinnamon flavors. It was the BEST apple pie I've ever had. I visited MeLisa the Pie Lady today with the expectation of finding sweet potato pies, but unfortunately, she doesn't sell them. That was completely fine--the shop itself is very charming, and I appreciated the cozy, well-thought-out aesthetic. Since I was already there, I decided to try a different pie instead. Before purchasing, the lady working there made a comment that caught me off guard. She said, "You know this isn't an area with a lot of AA people, so you won't really find any sweet potato pies," and she prefaced the statement by saying she didn't mean it to sound prejudiced. At the time, I let her know I didn't take offense. However, after reading some of the other reviews and seeing how paying customers were addressed in responses, I'm left wondering why it was even brought up. In my opinion, such remarks--regardless of intent--can be unnecessary and alienating, especially in a diverse society where inclusivity should be the standard. As for the pie I did purchase (pecan), I was honestly disappointed. It lacked flavor, the filling was underwhelming, and the crust crumbled, it split down the middle upon removing it from the plastic container. For the price, I expected much better quality. Would I return? Probably not. I do believe as well as she knows, she has a loyal customer base in that area and that her pies may be more appealing to their preferences. However, as someone in my line of work who values equity, social justice, and respectful communication in all spaces--including small businesses--this experience left me with mixed feelings. I drove pretty far to patronize the business so a replacement wouldn't suffice, either way. read more

This place is such a lovely and delicious discovery. When you run your fork on the top of the apple pie crust, you can just hear that solid, crispy top shell. The pie crust wasn't soggy and had a rich taste that complimented the slight tart apple flavor. The chocolate mini cream pie was just heaven when you bite into it. It's just a smooth decadent taste that just melts in your mouth. We also got to meet Melisa and she was just the loveliest person. I always enjoy my experience at this sweet dessert shop. They have a full array of mini pies on a glass display and most of the flavors are unique or safe for those non-adventurous eaters! Here are the pies I tried and my order of preference: 1. Key lime pie - haven't had one this good since I was in Miami 2. Peanut butter fudge - just as good as #1, but I had to choose. 3. Pecan - always a favorite...not too many pecans which is how I like it 4. Turtle Crunch - very good, just not as good as I was expecting 5. Apple - it was good, but I loved my mom's homemade pie, and this one was different. My mom passed away in October so this wasn't a fair fight to go up against hers. I will definitely be back again!! MeLisa is the sweetest baker in town. She came out of the kitchen to greet us when she heard us come in. She talked a bit about her pies and even mentioned the $3 off five pies deal. At the end, she gave all my little ones hugs. Millionaire - not as sweet as it looks so it was tasty for my palate Key Lime - if you like it on the more sour end, this is the spot to grab a Key Lime Pie! Tart, decadent, and refreshing. Coconut - texture was smooth with toasted coconut flakes on top. Perfectly baked. Cookies and Cream - hands down the best pie out of the bunch. I don't think you can make a bad Oreos pie but, man o' man, can MeLisa bake an extraordinary Oreos pie. Apple - looooooove the crust. I'm more of a cake person. Actually, I don't eat a lot of sweets to begin with so I don't know why I just said that. Everything is always too sweet for me but every once in a while my brain forgets this and I'll crave sugar. I chose MeLisa's place on this particular day for my sugar binge. I walked in and had the plan to try three different pies. Of course, the nice employee talked me into getting a 4th. The pie peer pressure is real. I ended up getting the following: 1. Banana Cream- Perfect. I've never had fresh banana's in a pie before. It's always been a banana flavored pudding but this was so light and refreshing. The bar has been set. 2. Key Lime- Also perfect because I loooove tart and sour anything. 3. Millionaire- It was interesting, not my favorite. Cherry and nutty and while it was light, it wasn't my favorite. 4. Peanut butter and chocolate- First bite was delicious but of course it was way too sweet for me. It was like a Reese's Pieces on steroids. I couldn't eat the whole thing and gave it to my garbage disposal, AKA boyfriend, who gladly ate it and enjoyed it. There are shockingly a lot of great pie places in DFW, but hardly any of them will do a custom order for a blueberry pie. I have no idea why, but I have called/emailed to inquire, and no one has been able to offer it. So, to my surprise, it was actually listed as a pie to order ahead on MeLisa's website. We decided to grab a pie for a family gathering and it didn't disappoint. We tried a Key Lime pie, which was so fresh and the perfect amount of sweet and tart. I love how great her graham cracker crust is on her pie. Even the non key lime fans in the group tried and loved this pie. I love how passionate she is about her business and what she does. Decor is a whimsical pink and green. They also make mini pies which are a great way to try out new flavors at a lower cost. For valentines we tried a mini cookies and cream and millionaire pie. I love to freeze the turtle crunch one because it stays smooth--not like ice cream. The coconut & bourbon pecan are best refrigerated. Coconut one is soooo good. Bourbon pecan is crunchy and a different texture than the other 2. I love this place. It's beautiful and clean inside. Much to my delight, I came home to find this beautiful pie in our fridge. It was a gift from a lovely friend in appreciation for a favor done by my husband. I've wanted to try a MeLisa pie so this was a great gift! The flavors are perfectly on-trend for a 'sophisticated' sweetness: subtle, flavorful, a perfect treat that adds to the sweetness of life. The filling had a lovely chocolate flavor without being cloying. The cream was light and airy with just the right touch of sweetness. I guess I went in there with high expectations reading a lot of people's post saying how good it is. I'm guessing these people have never tried a good pie from a good baker here. I was thinking it was going to be delicious. I tasted the crust first. It was pretty much like eating cardboard no flavor the pie itself I believe was a chocolate bourbon pecan could not taste no bourbon and it tasted exactly like a Hershey's candy bar. If I wanna eat Hershey's, I will go down the road to Dollar tree and buy me one for $1.25 instead of spending all that money on that piece of shit that I I took two bites and threw it away never in my life have I tasted disappointment as much as that. You may have won some awards, but I don't know what for maybe you used to cook good but that was pure crap. I would not recommend anyone getting anything from here. You can go to H-E-B and get a better pie or pastry than this place but this place needs a lot of improvement read more
