My friend is getting married and is Celiac and so for her bachelorette party I wanted to make sure we had some super safe (but still tasty) treats to enjoy on our weekend getaway. After a lot of research I found these guys and I was so inspired by the story that the mom and daughter started the company together because they were dealing with the same severe gluten intolerance! Knowing that there's no risk of cross-contamination that could ruin my friend's party weekend would have already been worth the expense, but omg these cupcakes were INCREDIBLE! All the girls were shocked they were "gluten free" because they're so moist and decadent and delicious! I have no idea what magical witchcraft these ladies are using to make GF bread items taste like gourmet cupcakes, but we absolutely loved them! Top tier favorites were definitely the carrot cake, strawberry, and this cupcake of the week that had apples inside (seriously so good). But honestly they were all winners, and I personally loved the lemon one a lot. I also really appreciated them going the extra mile when I ordered so that they were frozen and ready for a 3 hour drive to our cabin when I picked them up on the scheduled day. It's that kind of customer service and kindness that makes me want to go back, even though I'm not GF! Went to a gluten-free bakery chain, Unrefined Bakery, in Frisco on Saturday. There were NO disclosed prices anywhere except on whole, refrigerated cakes. What's with businesses not disclosing prices? I'm not going to stand there and point to each item and ask the price. I want to know so that I know if I was over or undercharged. As a Celiac, I've been to gluten-free bakeries where a single cinnamon roll is $8 before tax. If they're $5 each, I'll buy 2. If they're $8 each I'll buy 1 and I'll split it with my husband. Businesses lose money not disclosing the price upfront. My husband ended up getting a coffee, a pumpkin cookie which had the texture of pumpkin bread and a carrot cake muffin and we shared. First time trying this place. I was very happy to see that they offered Keto, Paleo, Gluten free, etc. desserts (I'm a Keto/low carb person). I bookmarked the place and checked it out since we're throwing a birthday party next week and need some gluten-free cupcakes for a couple of guests. I wanted to try some before deciding whether to go with this place for our party. On this Monday afternoon, the guy and gal working were not the friendliest. The guy answered my questions but sounded robotic and just very matter-of-fact. I ordered two gluten-free cupcakes and two Keto cupcakes, and a slice of Keto cake. The gal that rung me up looked and sounded like she was bored out of her mind (but then again, so did the guy). I had no idea what my total would be since they don't post prices. I provided a tip (not sure why) but felt guilted to. Everything was bagged by the time I put my credit card away. And with that, not even a, "Thank you" or "Bye!,' especially when I was the only customer there! As for the taste, the gluten-free cupcakes were good. The Keto cupcakes and cake were a little dry, but that's not surprising for Keto. I hope for a better experience the next time I'm there (assuming there's a next time).. Disappointed considering how excited I was about this place. Also, it would've been nice if the guy told me which cupcakes were on the bottom and which were on top. She was so patient and kind I tried a couple of items trying to decide if I would order for my daughter's birthday party (looking for allergy friendly options). The chocolate chocolate cupcake was divine!! I would drive back just to get one for myself in the future. The brownie and other cupcake we tried weren't good at all, I actually threw them out. We love the carrot cupcakes with cream cheese frosting. It's what we always seem to purchase. We ordered a German chocolate cake for a 70th birthday. It was not a German chocolate cake, we were very disappointed. I called because it didn't have the normal coconut/pecan icing, they told me they used the chocolate icing because the writing on the cake would smear/run. But the icing in the layer was the normal German chocolate cake icing. It wasn't, it was the same chocolate frosting. You could taste a piece of pecan or coconut once in awhile but it wasn't anything like it should have been. The cake wasn't German chocolate it was just a normal chocolate cake. I usually make my own gluten free cakes but was unable to this time. I will be making my own in the future. I am giving 2 stars because I LOVE the product. My issue is with the Customer Service. I have been going to Unrefined for years. It is so nice to have somewhere to get Gluten Free treats. Went in today and the man who helped us was the most unfriendly person I have ever interacted with in here. It was almost like we were an annoyance. Not sure he realizes that that part of his job is the customer experience and unfortunately he has put a sour taste in my mouth about returning. You would never know their cupcakes and cookies are gluten and dairy free. I've never had anything here that isn't absolutely delicious. I prefer their "un buttercream" icing over regular buttercream. Yes, you will pay a little more than you would in a typical bakery. This is a specialty bakery. Not only is everything made from scratch, but the ingredients are top quality. The products are worth every penny. I love that you can freeze their cupcakes and cookies. What an expected treasure! I was looking for delicious treats for teammates in town for an event. They follow strictly gluten free and vegan diets. The store had lots of samples out to taste. My non vegan gluten free folks sampled and loved EVERYTHING. We ended up purchasing the party mix without nuts. It has the perfect blend of sweet and spicy. ALL of the team dug into the bags. Was really excited to try this place because the entire bakery is gluten free (not easy to find, especially in Texas). There are soooo many different options of pastries on display and packaged foods (bread, pasta, snacks) in the freezer/fridge and along the walls. I was a bit disappointed just because some of the pastries we got (cupcakes especially) were very, very sweet. I like sweet, but these were a little much. I loved the lemon cupcake though because it tasted more natural. The sugar-free ones taste very strongly of artificial sweeteners, which I personally don't like, so that's more on me and my preferences. Surprisingly my favorite thing I got here was the lunch! Omg guys: Keto sweets!! So close and I didn't have a clue until today. First: the service amazing. I had to wait a little because they were short of staff and people kept coming in. However once she came to help me she gave me lots of free Keto samples so I was very very happy!! I tried the Keto breads and I will be buying a loaf to keep in the freezer. I bought today the vanilla, chocolate cupcakes and they were so good!! I tried the chocolate pie and wow!! So of course got me a slice for another day (or later tonite lol). I saw in the menu they have the Keto sandwich which means I can go there to have lunch. The prices are great. Same as any other bakery. It's located in a busy part of town so you may have to drive around for parking but it's worth it!! It's small and cute like a mom and pop shop/bakery. I asked for a simple rainbow cake for my sons birthday. They said they could add a rainbow on top of it. I was excited to see it but when they opened the box I was underwhelmed to see such sloppy work. Even my own husband said it didn't look very professional. I just think that for $80 this should look nicer on the top. Especially since they charged me $25 for the design. I paid the same amount of money for a 2 tier cake that is beautiful for the actual party with a lot more detailed work with a different vendor, but this would have been an embarrassment. They were sweet and indulgent, but strangely lacked flavor? I also had a bun that my friend served with a hamburger. The bun was was super expensive- I believe $6.00? We thought we would stop in a grab a cupcake...until I saw the size. The Keto cupcakes are tiny! Sitting next to the others, it looked like the baby of the fam...AND, they were $4.50. Each tiny cake had a smidge of icing on top. They were sad little morsels. We passed. They had 2 Keto pies and 1 cake by slice. We bought 2 Chocolate Raspberry cake slices and 2 slices of Dark Chocolate Silk pie. Both frozen. We tried the cake. No flavor of raspberry cod chocolate...at all. I'd give it a C-. $8. The first time I tried from Unrefined Bakery my brother-in-law got it for me and now I went in on my own. It was so nice, clean, and chill. I was welcomed very kindly by the staff and they were patient with me while I freaked out because it's really hard to find vegan and gluten-free places. Unrefined bakery is a food sensitivities dream come true! I started eating paleo back in 2013 and since then my diet has evolved to accommodate my body's specific food sensitivities. I am sensitive to eggs, dairy, soy, gluten, and a whole host of other things. What this means is it's pretty much impossible for me to find treats I can actually eat that won't mess up my hormones, immune system, or gut. Not to mention ones that actually taste good. At unrefined I can not only get a super delicious and beautiful treat, I can also walk away knowing I ate something my body won't be mad about. I don't have to worry about symptoms flaring or a crazy breakout. I can get a delicious cupcake and cakes that meet all of my needs. Honestly this place is pure MAGIC for someone like me. I'm so so happy they exist. And the cupcakes and cakes taste absolutely amazing, even for the people who can eat whatever they want! My husband can attest to this.
