Yemeni cafe with a more relaxed and fruit-forward vibe. I was feeling a little low in energy and looking for either a fresh juice or smoothie to bolster my immune system. So glad Mellana Cafe was recommended via Yelp, because holy moly they definitely know how to make fresh, healthy, and colorful fruit smoothies and juices. All of the choices looks so refreshing and yummy, but I knew I wanted some ginger and some vitamin C in mine, so went with the Jamaican Ginger Paradise. It was so delicious, and the smoothie was the perfect amount of thickness and melt ratio. It had a very vibrant beautiful citrus color. The two ladies working the front were so friendly and efficient. A+ for service. I also like how cute their cafe was, but not a place where I would study. The chairs are more for short chats with your buddies, they also have some few outdoor spots for the doggos. I'm definitely coming back, maybe next time to try their Adeni chai or their other Yemeni hot drinks. read more

My favorite neighborhood cafe! I come here roughly weekly and get a fresh juice or a bowl. Everything is made to order so be patient. The exception to this is the base of the bowls which I think they pre-make because it is a bit more frozen than I prefer, but stir it up a little and it will thaw fast. The juices are my favorite, especially the Sunnyside Up. The coffees are also delicious and not too sweet. There is some seating inside and some outside. It is also very clean and the staff is welcoming. read more

Giving them five stars, even though they messed up my order technically. I ordered an iced rose latte ( which ceased delivered as a regular hot latte ) , an iced Yemeni latte and a hot Karan chai. All three drinks were excellent. Heavily spiced and caffeinated! What prompted me to write this review is that I am currently in Southern California at another Yemeni coffee shop unfortunately this recent place is no match for mellana! Please don't waste your time at this "cafe". We stopped by one morning for a quick breakfast, and thought this place looked cute based off the photos online. We ordered two Mochas, a bagel, and an avocado toast. The price was not appropriately reflected in the food quality. The bread used for the avocado toast was literally un toasted, stale, cheap white bread with some avocado slices on top. The coffee was alright and the bagel was stale but at least edible. Our meal cost close to $40 and I really don't think it was worth it. read more

My first time trying Mellana was through work, when one of my managers Doordashed a couple of acai bowls to our office during a site visit with a grant sponsor. I had a regular acai bowls with some cocoa nibs and it was so delicious -- the fruits were refreshing, the flavor rich, and it was the perfect amount of sweet. The second time I had Mellana was with my boyfriend, who I told about the acai bowls! We took a drive over to Oakland and found ourselves parked up in a neighborhood right by the freeway entrance. Fortunately, despite the busy streets, we found a spot right outside the cafe. The cafe is cozy, and honestly better for a grab and go situation. My boyfriend ordered the classic acai bowl and I decided to try the passion fruit bowl and a Yemeni latte. The passion fruit bowl had a lighter kick compared to the classic but was just as delicious! The Yemeni latte was fantastic iced and was a good strong flavor despite it being a latte. Staff were nice and friendly and they worked fast! After trying Mellana I would have to admit these are the best acai bowls I've had in the East Bay. read more

Came for the first time on a beautiful Saturday morning and it was super easy to find. Conveniently located off of MLK you should stay and enjoy your choice of açaí bowl, smoothie, or coffee outside on the mini tables and chairs while soaking up the sun. Staff is super pleasant and welcoming. The fruit and veggies are all super fresh, many if not all of them in their raw form so you're only getting the freshest of nutrients when ordering from this little establishment. It wasn't too busy at all, but it's probably because of the location. I got the Jamaican paradise smoothie with the collagen booster. Really good, highly recommend. Whenever I'm craving a Green Goddess smoothie, my go-to spot is Mellana Cafe on MLK. Mellana Cafe is definitely your grab-and-go type of cafe. Inside, there are only two tables you can sit at and one standing table in between. Since the blender is running all the time and the space is small, it gets pretty loud inside. I wouldn't expect to be able to get any work done there, unless you have some really good noise-cancelling headphones on you. There's limited street parking in front of the store, so you'll likely need to park down the block or in the residential area nearby. For $9, juice pricing is on par with other health bars. There are a few food options here, like acai bowls and various topped toasts, but in terms of pastries, they're pretty limited on this front. The only pastries I saw were muffins, that looked like they were from Costco. read more

As for drinks I usually get the Yemeni latte (hot) which always hits if you like cinnamon / spices. Ambiance cute, bright interior with vibrant decor. Dont know how this place has such good reviews.... Ordered acai, we asked if we would be up charged for swapping out toppings and the lady said no. Swapped toppings and was up charged lol. After we ordered, lady pulled out frozen pre made bowls out the freezer and slapped fruit on. The acai was rock hard and wayyyyyyy too sweet. Nasty granola also. 1st time going and definitely will be going back. The almond toast was super filling and good. Nice vibe, welcomed greeting with a smile. Always a plus. I got the green goodness smoothie & the Yemeni latte. Green goodness was 9/10, a good way to get my veggies in for the day! Tbh the yemeni latte could have been better.. I was expecting more spices in it but it was really just like a regular latte with a lot of milk. I still enjoyed it tho! Service was okay but they were quick! The portion size is abysmal. Almost no acai and covered the remainder of the container with crappy store bought extremely dry granola. Note picture. If they're gonna charge almost $15, they better be making their own granola. The acai has the texture of a bad smoothie...seems like they just blend up a frozen acai pack and stale granola from costco and throw it together. Came out to $14 and i tipped 2, horrible mistake. I hate giving small businesses 1 star ratings. Inside the cafe several large flies flew around. A 7 year old child asked to use the bathroom when they clearly have one and they refused. read more

First timer! 1. It was so clean and organized, had a great vibe when you walk in! The customer service was amazing, felt so genuine. 2. Avocado toast. The avocado toast was hands down the best I've ever had. It had fresh avocados, pepper flakes, micro greens, tomatoes, and some type of light oil. I usually do not like tomatoes, but it meshed well and it was so FRESH it was delicious. The bread they used, DELICIOUS. Literally the best bread I've ever had, soft not crunchy, thick, and fresh. 3. Açai Bowl. The Açai Bowl was yummy and fresh! The fruits were fresh & diced beautifully, granola nice and crunchy, açaí was thick and didn't melt fast. This place (& the ladies working it) are fully top notch. Came in on a whim, living not too far from here & having read great reviews, tried the avocado toast & Yemeni latte - both were delicious! The avocado toast had some super fresh micro greens & a hint of red pepper flakes, which I'm usually not a fan of, but they set the toast off for sure. It was the bread for me though! So thick, without being too heavy or overpowering, and there are two pieces, so you have the option of an avo sando or taking the top piece off for a more tradish avo toast. This bread is amazing, so I recommend eating both pieces (*Kanye shrug*). Very happy tummy right now, IJS. The Yemeni latte was PERFECT! Not that I'd know, because this was my first YL ever, but the blend of cinnamon, cardamom & honey was absolute taste-perfection in my book. Had the cardamom oat latte and can't wait to have it again. Was super tasty and perfect temp. Oat milk was NOT burned which is wonderful. I'm grateful I don't live super close to this spot cause that could be costly. . Person who took my order was kind. When the other worker noticed we were having some difficulty hearing each other they turned down the music. Might seem inconsequential but I notice nuanced kindness and thoughtfulness these days because it's often in short supply. Looking forward to stopping by again. read more

Mellana Cafe is really good! I was craving an açaí bowl for breakfast after my morning Pilates class and decided to try Mellana Cafe. They have a variety of açaí bowls and unique drinks to try. I really liked the açaí bowl I ordered, it wasn't too sweet and was topped with plenty of berries. They also gave plenty of granola and coconut shaving on the bowl. Couldn't ask for a better way to start my morning! Definitely would recommend anyone to try Mellana Cafe. I'm planning on coming back soon to try their drinks. read more

Can't wait to go back here! I got a hot Yemeni latte, a super kale juice (perfect mix of sweet fruit and celery/greens), and delicious tropical smoothie. I ordered ahead on GrubHub out of necessity (on a time crunch and couldn't wait around - next time I will support the cafe more directly) and it was perfect - the guy at the counter waited till I got there to make the latte so it was fresh and hot, everything else was ready to go. Love this little local corner cafe with coffee, tea, matcha, acai bowls, freshly squeezed juices. smoothies, and baked goods. You can truly find something for anyone. I ordered Matcha Green Tea with oatmilk and honey. Let's be clear- this is the real and pure stuff so it may taste bitter. This isn't the Starbucks: matcha with sugar and other fillers. I appreciate that it isn't manipulated for flavor and good ratings. The drink was good- no clumps for me and mixed well. I would recommend for anyone who loves true Matcha! Love the vibes of this café ! Right when you walk in you see a wall of fresh fruit & will hear some good throw back r&b! It had us singing & not wanting to leave! The women who helped us was so fabulous! I didn't catch her name but she has a lip piercing and told us she's originally from San Jose. She was so friendly, you can tell that cafe and the people there radiate good energy. I was craving a matcha latte and didn't want one from Starbucks so I decided to come check this place out! It's a cute little local shop and they made your drinks with fresh ingredients because the had all their fruits/veggies laid out in the open for everyone to see. I ordered the matcha latte with oat milk and was pretty disappointed by the taste. There were still matcha powder chunks in the drink that didn't dissolve and it did not have a very strong matcha taste at all. Overall, would not recommend getting the matcha latte but next time i'll definitely try their fruit/veggie smoothies. read more

Local little Cafe with Acai bowls made to order, juices, smoothies, and yummy Yemeni coffee and teas, it is just the perfect afternoon pick me up and a break from being quarantine at home all day. Even though there is 2 Starbucks in this area one says it only accepts mobile orders only and the other is stationed in the Pak n Save and there's too many people walking in and out. So why not support a local mom and pop shop and have a cup of coffee with some peace and social distancing. read more

Ordered the Ginger Honey Jobani as a hot drink, Biscoff Milkcake, Honeycomb, and a Beef Fatayer. There were several kinds of milkcakes which would have the texture like a tres leches cake. The Honeycomb had pockets of cream cheese and was drizzles with honey. The Meat Fatayer is like an empanada. The food and drink were very tasty. At the register I was greeted and ordered a hot rose latte and warbat to enjoy before moving on to other adventures. The latte was quite good. I could taste the rose but it wasn't overly floral or perfumed, which rose can be. The warbat was packed with pistachios, and was honeyed but without being overly sweet or sticky owing to whatever fat was used in prepping the pastry. The music was lovely, the people watching was relaxing, and I will not only be taking assume treats home, I plan to return again and hopefully often!

We really enjoyed sitting in the corner table today with an open window and a Jasmine vine growing right outside of the window with his sweet smell wafting in. I noted a strong Rosemary scent in my Kashmere tea today. The scent apparently comes from the Arabian bay leaf. It was quiet before 12:00 but then got busy after noon. Definitely looking forward to coming back again and trying a different flatbread. I learned from today that coming here before 12:00 noon is the perfect time.
