This a cute cafe! I had a strawberry and banana smoothie so good I forgot to take a picture. Definitely come check it out.

My favorite neighborhood cafe! I come here roughly weekly and get a fresh juice or a bowl. Everything is made to order so be patient. The exception to this is the base of the bowls which I think they pre-make because it is a bit more frozen than I prefer, but stir it up a little and it will thaw fast. The juices are my favorite, especially the Sunnyside Up. The coffees are also delicious and not too sweet. There is some seating inside and some outside. It is also very clean and the staff is welcoming.

My first time trying Mellana was through work, when one of my managers Doordashed a couple of acai bowls to our office during a site visit with a grant sponsor. I had a regular acai bowls with some cocoa nibs and it was so delicious -- the fruits were refreshing, the flavor rich, and it was the perfect amount of sweet. The second time I had Mellana was with my boyfriend, who I told about the acai bowls! We took a drive over to Oakland and found ourselves parked up in a neighborhood right by the freeway entrance. Fortunately, despite the busy streets, we found a spot right outside the cafe. The cafe is cozy, and honestly better for a grab and go situation. My boyfriend ordered the classic acai bowl and I decided to try the passion fruit bowl and a Yemeni latte. The passion fruit bowl had a lighter kick compared to the classic but was just as delicious! The Yemeni latte was fantastic iced and was a good strong flavor despite it being a latte. Staff were nice and friendly and they worked fast! After trying Mellana I would have to admit these are the best acai bowls I've had in the East Bay.

Came for the first time on a beautiful Saturday morning and it was super easy to find. Conveniently located off of MLK you should stay and enjoy your choice of açaí bowl, smoothie, or coffee outside on the mini tables and chairs while soaking up the sun. Staff is super pleasant and welcoming. The fruit and veggies are all super fresh, many if not all of them in their raw form so you're only getting the freshest of nutrients when ordering from this little establishment. It wasn't too busy at all, but it's probably because of the location. I got the Jamaican paradise smoothie with the collagen booster. Really good, highly recommend. Next time I'm getting the spirulina smoothie with protein!

Food: the spirulina acai bowl tastes really sweet like candy so if you like sweet, the bowl will be really good! As for drinks I usually get the Yemeni latte (hot) which always hits if you like cinnamon / spices. Ambiance cute, bright interior with vibrant decor. Minimal seating inside and outside Service: workers are always kind :) don't expect quick service if you're in a rush though, normally there is only 1-2 people working at a time but it's worth the wait!

Dont know how this place has such good reviews.... Ordered acai, we asked if we would be up charged for swapping out toppings and the lady said no. Swapped toppings and was up charged lol. After we ordered, lady pulled out frozen pre made bowls out the freezer and slapped fruit on. The acai was rock hard and wayyyyyyy too sweet. Nasty granola also. Wish I could get a refund lol

I ordered orange juice, was sweet fresh and squeeze on the spot. Great atmosphere. Definitely will stop by again when im in the area.

I got the green goodness smoothie & the Yemeni latte. Green goodness was 9/10, a good way to get my veggies in for the day! Tbh the yemeni latte could have been better.. I was expecting more spices in it but it was really just like a regular latte with a lot of milk. I still enjoyed it tho! Service was okay but they were quick! A good little stop before hopping on the Bay Bridge. It was bustling when I went and it had nice ambiance with music playing in the background.

The portion size is abysmal. Almost no acai and covered the remainder of the container with crappy store bought extremely dry granola. Note picture. If they're gonna charge almost $15, they better be making their own granola. The acai has the texture of a bad smoothie...seems like they just blend up a frozen acai pack and stale granola from costco and throw it together. Came out to $14 and i tipped 2, horrible mistake. I hate giving small businesses 1 star ratings. Inside the cafe several large flies flew around. A 7 year old child asked to use the bathroom when they clearly have one and they refused.

Açaí was completely frozen, not freshly made. Granola was stale. And for $15 to only get a handful of fruits, not worth it.

First timer! 1. It was so clean and organized, had a great vibe when you walk in! The customer service was amazing, felt so genuine. 2. Avocado toast. The avocado toast was hands down the best I've ever had. It had fresh avocados, pepper flakes, micro greens, tomatoes, and some type of light oil. I usually do not like tomatoes, but it meshed well and it was so FRESH it was delicious. The bread they used, DELICIOUS. Literally the best bread I've ever had, soft not crunchy, thick, and fresh. 3. Açai Bowl. The Açai Bowl was yummy and fresh! The fruits were fresh & diced beautifully, granola nice and crunchy, açaí was thick and didn't melt fast. It was a well proportioned bowl as well. 10/10

I pedaled my bike over there this Wednesday morning, aiming to secure a proper breakfast that would actually carry me past 11 a.m. The shop is cozy, definitely on the smaller side with a few seats inside, giving it that familiar, neighborhood spot feel. It's not a sprawling, antiseptic café, and I appreciate that. I ordered the Laney Breakfast Sandwich, which features egg, fresh spinach, sliced turkey, and Swiss cheese on a toasted English muffin. What impressed me was the intentionality--this wasn't something sitting under a heat lamp, looking defeated. It was clearly made to order. The egg was seasoned right, the turkey wasn't flimsy, and the spinach added that necessary fresh bite. It was a damn good sandwich, simple as that. I paired that with the Berry Lovers Smoothie. The original recipe calls for banana, but I asked if they could swap that out for mango. My people know that mango adds a different kind of sunshine, and they executed the substitution flawlessly. It came out thick, perfectly blended--a rich mix of blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, and that mango kick. It was super refreshing and didn't taste like I was drinking melted ice. The service was quick and friendly, which is key on a weekday morning. Everything tasted clean, fresh, and intentionally prepared. If you're looking for high-quality breakfast fare that feels less commercial and more like something someone actually cares about, stop by. The short bike ride and the intimate seating are worth it for what comes out of that kitchen. They earned this review.

Our orders were taken and we sat down to wait. There were a TON OF FLIES buzzing around and I kept having to wave them off especially when we got our order to the table, which honestly was gross. We were called to pick up our order, but only 1 of the 4 items was ready: Zadie's Masterpiece Breakfast Sando - Really tasty and enjoyed the biscuit it was on. Skimpy on the bacon, there was ONE piece but overall good breakfast sandwich. Next item ready 5 minutes later: Khadija's Slow Burn Harissa Hot Honey Breakfast Burrito - Really tasty. Definitely flavor packed and would order this again. *BUT there was an issue. Apparently the person that ordered before us asked for the same burrito to go...they NEVER got it and yet our order was ready. The person was pretty cool about it but they were definitely annoyed and gave us a look although it wasn't our fault. *The ordering system seems unorganized with the cashier writing orders on a slip of receipt paper and putting them on a stand by the kitchen. I wonder if the slips were out of order or fell and they skipped this persons to go order? IDK but they need a better system! We tried waiting for our coffees before starting to eat but then our food started getting cold...YOU KNOW WHY?... because the poor person that was taking orders was also in charge of making drinks. Having one person as cashier and barrista is NOT a good idea on a busy Saturday morning. It was hard for them to take a moment and focus on the drinks becuase people kept coming in an placing orders which means we waited for 20+ minutes before getting our drinks. By then our food was mostly eaten! Thankfully we noticed they had a water pitcher for free water which was a saving grace! The wait for drinks was so long that people that were already sitting when we arrived and had already eaten their food were JUST getting their drinks before us. HORRIBLE! I felt really bad for the cashier/barista :( Another turn off, there is no understanding on what to do with dirty dishes. Do we bus our table? If so where do we put it? We noticed people leaving plates by the water pitcher and cups, some put them on the long counter by the coffee area. There wasn't a garbage or compost bin, so we weren't sure where to put food scraps. There was a bin for "Plastic Only" but only the cup lids were plastic and the cup itself was paper, so where TF do you put that? We noticed a black plastic bin that someone had brought out from the back, so we placed our stuff in there but wasn't exactly sure. We tried to ask the cashier/barista but they were slammed with customers so we ccouldn't get their attention. IDK the place is just poorly organized and messy! There are tables for people to make artwork which is nice but on a busy Saturday it might have been nice to clean those areas up to allow people to sit. Sorry guys... *You need a dedicated barista! People waiting 20+ minutes for drinks is insane especially when the food comes out relatively fast. *Please clean up your restaurant. The amount of flies was gross and no one wants to swat them away from food & drinks. *Tell people if they should bus their own tables and if so.... *Make it clear where to leave plates, cups, garbage, compost etc.
