Yemeni cafe with a more relaxed and fruit-forward vibe. I was feeling a little low in energy and looking for either a fresh juice or smoothie to bolster my immune system. So glad Mellana Cafe was recommended via Yelp, because holy moly they definitely know how to make fresh, healthy, and colorful fruit smoothies and juices. All of the choices looks so refreshing and yummy, but I knew I wanted some ginger and some vitamin C in mine, so went with the Jamaican Ginger Paradise. It was so delicious, and the smoothie was the perfect amount of thickness and melt ratio. It had a very vibrant beautiful citrus color. The two ladies working the front were so friendly and efficient. A+ for service. I also like how cute their cafe was, but not a place where I would study. The chairs are more for short chats with your buddies, they also have some few outdoor spots for the doggos. I'm definitely coming back, maybe next time to try their Adeni chai or their other Yemeni hot drinks. read more

This spot's got a nice cozy feel to it, one of those neighborhood locations with only a it of seating but a place you could sit and think for a long while. Or whatever else folks do when they've got time to kill. The lattes are unique and clearly Arabic-influenced with some pretty good flavors. Can't say much from experience about the food though. Service is great when the main girl is there (might be the owner or manager since she's got that kinda knowledgeable energy to her), but not so much when the young staff is there alone. They seem nice but not too confident, which can affect the experience. Maybe even the service since I ordered a golden latte recently during their shift and got chunks of turmeric in mine; it was lukewarm too, not even hot. I'll definitely be back but quality control is important when charging city prices. read more

My favorite neighborhood cafe! I come here roughly weekly and get a fresh juice or a bowl. Everything is made to order so be patient. The exception to this is the base of the bowls which I think they pre-make because it is a bit more frozen than I prefer, but stir it up a little and it will thaw fast. The juices are my favorite, especially the Sunnyside Up. The coffees are also delicious and not too sweet. There is some seating inside and some outside. It is also very clean and the staff is welcoming. read more

My first time trying Mellana was through work, when one of my managers Doordashed a couple of acai bowls to our office during a site visit with a grant sponsor. I had a regular acai bowls with some cocoa nibs and it was so delicious -- the fruits were refreshing, the flavor rich, and it was the perfect amount of sweet. The second time I had Mellana was with my boyfriend, who I told about the acai bowls! We took a drive over to Oakland and found ourselves parked up in a neighborhood right by the freeway entrance. Fortunately, despite the busy streets, we found a spot right outside the cafe. The cafe is cozy, and honestly better for a grab and go situation. My boyfriend ordered the classic acai bowl and I decided to try the passion fruit bowl and a Yemeni latte. The passion fruit bowl had a lighter kick compared to the classic but was just as delicious! The Yemeni latte was fantastic iced and was a good strong flavor despite it being a latte. Staff were nice and friendly and they worked fast! Came for the first time on a beautiful Saturday morning and it was super easy to find. Conveniently located off of MLK you should stay and enjoy your choice of açaí bowl, smoothie, or coffee outside on the mini tables and chairs while soaking up the sun. Staff is super pleasant and welcoming. The fruit and veggies are all super fresh, many if not all of them in their raw form so you're only getting the freshest of nutrients when ordering from this little establishment. It wasn't too busy at all, but it's probably because of the location. I got the Jamaican paradise smoothie with the collagen booster. Really good, highly recommend. Please don't waste your time at this "cafe". We stopped by one morning for a quick breakfast, and thought this place looked cute based off the photos online. We ordered two Mochas, a bagel, and an avocado toast. The price was not appropriately reflected in the food quality. The bread used for the avocado toast was literally un toasted, stale, cheap white bread with some avocado slices on top. The coffee was alright and the bagel was stale but at least edible. Our meal cost close to $40 and I really don't think it was worth it. read more

Whenever I'm craving a Green Goddess smoothie, my go-to spot is Mellana Cafe on MLK. Mellana Cafe is definitely your grab-and-go type of cafe. Inside, there are only two tables you can sit at and one standing table in between. Since the blender is running all the time and the space is small, it gets pretty loud inside. I wouldn't expect to be able to get any work done there, unless you have some really good noise-cancelling headphones on you. There's limited street parking in front of the store, so you'll likely need to park down the block or in the residential area nearby. For $9, juice pricing is on par with other health bars. There are a few food options here, like acai bowls and various topped toasts, but in terms of pastries, they're pretty limited on this front. The only pastries I saw were muffins, that looked like they were from Costco. read more

I got the green goodness smoothie & the Yemeni latte. Green goodness was 9/10, a good way to get my veggies in for the day! Tbh the yemeni latte could have been better.. I was expecting more spices in it but it was really just like a regular latte with a lot of milk. I still enjoyed it tho! Service was okay but they were quick! If they're gonna charge almost $15, they better be making their own granola. The avocado toast had some super fresh micro greens & a hint of red pepper flakes, which I'm usually not a fan of, but they set the toast off for sure. It was the bread for me though! So thick, without being too heavy or overpowering, and there are two pieces, so you have the option of an avo sando or taking the top piece off for a more tradish avo toast. First timer! 1. It was so clean and organized, had a great vibe when you walk in! The customer service was amazing, felt so genuine. 2. Avocado toast. The avocado toast was hands down the best I've ever had. It had fresh avocados, pepper flakes, micro greens, tomatoes, and some type of light oil. I usually do not like tomatoes, but it meshed well and it was so FRESH it was delicious. The bread they used, DELICIOUS. Literally the best bread I've ever had, soft not crunchy, thick, and fresh. 3. Mellana Cafe is really good! I was craving an açaí bowl for breakfast after my morning Pilates class and decided to try Mellana Cafe. They have a variety of açaí bowls and unique drinks to try. I really liked the açaí bowl I ordered, it wasn't too sweet and was topped with plenty of berries. They also gave plenty of granola and coconut shaving on the bowl. I ordered Matcha Green Tea with oatmilk and honey. Let's be clear- this is the real and pure stuff so it may taste bitter. This isn't the Starbucks: matcha with sugar and other fillers. I was craving a matcha latte and didn't want one from Starbucks so I decided to come check this place out! It's a cute little local shop and they made your drinks with fresh ingredients because the had all their fruits/veggies laid out in the open for everyone to see. I ordered the matcha latte with oat milk and was pretty disappointed by the taste. There were still matcha powder chunks in the drink that didn't dissolve and it did not have a very strong matcha taste at all.
