Small surprise for our weekend getaway. It's hard to come across places that specialize in vegan baked goods, and this one had amazing options. They were out of matcha, so we didn't get to try it, but hopefully we will on another visit. The place was charming both inside and out. I'm really impressed by the amount of vegan friendly options there are in Oakland! I wish LA had a Timeless down there. This coffee shop exclusively uses vegan milks (think oat, almond, and soy I believe) in their beverages. I got the vanilla cardamom iced latte. I am not a big fan. This place is vegan/vegetarian but they do not advertise as such. Their pastries don't say vegan. They don't ask what choice of milk you'd like. I asked the cashier if the macchiato is sweetened and they said no. I get my coffee and it's a traditional macchiato in a tiny espresso cup. Whatever no big deal but the espresso was super bitter. I feel like the cashier should have told me it wasn't the Starbucks macchiato I'm used to. We also got the "raspberry cheesecake" I thought it wasn't that bad except I did not care for the raspberry sauce. I saw the flock of people and guess it led me to have higher expectations. Ordered the lavender latte and the vanilla cold brew based on the cashier's recommendation. I was disappointed because the lavender latte tasted like they added a few pumps of torani and oat milk. Not saying that's what they did, but I expected a more crafted drink. We have been coming here for years. We have an obsession with the pesto rolls. I recently ordered from this vegan coffee shop online, placing a large order of 15 items totaling $92.75, as we don't live nearby and like to stock up. I opted for refunds on any out-of-stock items with the exception of one item and included a 20% tip. However, instead of refunding unavailable items as requested, the shop substituted them with items I didn't want--without notifying me. They use toast pos systems. Toast allows you to put a count on an item, and to 86 an item so that people can't order things that are out of stock. Apparently they just choose to not use that amazing option so that guests can still order things that are out of stock. The receipt on the bag noted that items were out of stock, and upon checking, I found unwanted replacements. But no one used their voice to tell me and I had I not looked at the receipt on the bag I never would have realized. I had to request a refund, even though I requested it when placing the order I then had to do an additional verbal request, which adjusted the bill to $55.25. A 20% tip on this should be $11, not the $18 charged on the original total. Despite reaching out two different times to the owners, I received no response or refund for the overcharged tip. This is unacceptable--charging a tip for items not received and on an incorrect total feels like fraud. This experience has soured me on tipping for to-go orders for all restaurants. I will never do it again and it's a shame a place like this ruins that for everyone else. Shame on you. A simple task of fulfilling an order correctly shouldn't result in such poor service and communication. I won't be returning. read more

Love the concept of a fully vegan bakery. But this place didn't deliver (IMO) on the goods. The carrot loaf was overly dry, so much that I couldn't eat it. And it really lacked any flavor. The peppermint patty was hard as a rock, I attempted to cut it in half to get a good visual of the filling however, it snapped in half and jumped off my plate . The filling had a great prominent mint taste, but was much, much too sweet... it was like eating a spoonful of crystallized sugar... quite possible it'd be better if it's room temp. The almond croissant was good, not much almond filling, but fair overall. Service was standard. Gets busy, and loud, but if you can stag a table, the space is nice to read/work. read more

While on the pricier side, what coffee shop in the Bay isn't these days? Timeless Coffee is delicious! Although lines can be long, the cappuccino I ordered was delicious and well worth it. It was a classic cap with lots of foam, despite being made with alternative milk - something I always find impressive. I also ordered a maple donut. It was fluffy and yummy, and I would definitely recommend. The cafe itself is super cute and well decorated for the holidays, with lots of amazing looking pastries to choose from - even mini pies! Many of the patrons are commuters or those looking for a pick me up in the midst of their busy errands. With indoor and outdoor seating, you'll see this little but mighty roaster/cafe roaring with activity. The coffee here is great and since they're completely vegan, be prepared to venture into milk alternatives like the oat, almond, and soy variety. Your standard coffee drink favorites get a bit of a spark with a new flavor profile. It's subtle, but if you like your coffee with milk, you'll taste the distinct differences. I am more of a mocha guy so naturally that's what I ordered and thoroughly enjoyed. They do ask if you plan to dine in which will have your drink served in a nice mug. Plus you get the pretty little foam designs to snap for your socials! The baked goods is where it's at! For a small little shop, you would not have expected such a wide variety of goodies but they have a good selection of different donuts, cakes, muffins, rolls, and cookies. Again, all vegan but as you eat them, you would be none the wiser. The texture may be a little different than what you'd expect but the taste is heavenly. I ended up getting the cinnamon sugar donut but they also have a donut resembling the look and taste of the infamous Girl Scout cookie, the Samoa. It was a local favorite as they were selling quick! That is definitely worth a try next time I'm around here! The cinnamon sugar donut had a good bite; it had kind of a chewy bread like texture and it was so delicious, it was gobbled up within a couple minutes. It paired well with the coffee. The staff members were really friendly and efficient. They took my order and clarified what certain items were, which was helpful as a first timer. Should you decide to dine in, there are a few tables that have pretty high churn. Not a lot of people camping out here for too long. I didn't notice if there were any electrical outlets or wifi connections but that could have an impact. They do have two relatively clean restrooms, however, you'll need to walk toward the back past the kitchen and roasters. Overall, Timeless Coffee excels in roasting and serving up great vegan coffee and small bites. The scenery is fresh and bustling for that city feel but as you walk out, you'll get a slower pace in this part of Oakland. Waste no time and make a visit to Timeless Coffee on your next outing to this part of town! I've ended up at Timeless Coffee on multiple occasions after dropping our son to school. Friendly staff, plenty of seating and great drink options to suit all varieties of caffeine consumption - plus some fun seasonal beverages. I've tried the pourover, lattes, matcha and others and enjoyed all of them, although I think the seasonal lattes remain my favourite. Hearty pastry collection too - their donuts and cakes are excellent. Note that this is a vegan spot, which hasn't been an issue for me but if you're keen on milk or cream in your drinks, this may not be your jam. The only small negative is that this is a little more expensive than other spots (particularly the pastries), don't expect to get away with spending less than $10 for a drink and pastry. However, lattes seem to be approaching $7 at chains too, so I think this might just be a sign of the times. read more

I can't believe it's been 11 years since my last review and I guess it's time to update it. I have been a faithful fan of Timeless on Piedmont since they opened. I am completely addicted to the almond croissants and the chocolate croissants. The danishes are quite good to right now you can get pumpkin in addition to the usual cherry and blueberry. Their social media is fun and occasionally they will throw out a query for "forbidden flavors" for things like cakes or whatever. That could be good fun. They have a new brunch special, which looks amazing. Follow them on Instagram to keep up-to-date with the offerings. While this café has doubled in size (having taken over the neighboring space several years ago) , parking hasn't gotten any better so plan to bike or walk or park quite far away. read more

I love that I can eat here and not worry about my allergies. Everything I have tried here in the last few days has been yummy. My only complaint is that when things were heated up for me it was inconsistent in the heating the outside would be warm and the inside would be cold. The staff are nice and the service is quick. There is not a ton of seating but the 3 times I have been there it was never more than a minute before I could grab a seat. This is the greatest cafe on Mother Earth (I'm sure there are others, but I just haven't been to them yet and they are probably few and far between). Timeless coffee is 100% vegan. They make vegan 'quick-food' such as sandwiches, wraps, breakfast sandwiches, and delicious donuts and cakes. Also, they pull great espresso shots, the cafe is trans/LGBTQ+ friendly, and the bathrooms are spotless. If you are reading this review and you are not vegan, go to this cafe and try everything out; everyone can eat vegan food! The only negative point I have is that there are no negative points.. I went to brunch with some friends and being gluten-free is a challenge. But I went on this day and they had a special treat on a plate for me. A GF apple pastry and a cinnamon bun. They were fantastic and I'll be honest, the folks from Mariposa Bakery can take some notes and improve their offerings. So, of course, when I was told that it was around the corner I had to go. I found it and went in. Hmm...that's when things took a turn. 1. It looked just dirty and dank in the cases. They weren't full. The lighting was weird so one of the two raspberry cheesecakes looked like a blueberry cheesecake. They had a gluten-free something that looked strange. But it was the person behind the counter who put me off. The person claimed that there was not a lot of gluten-free foods and suggested that my issue was because I was using dairy. I can tell you that I'd never seen this person before and that was a huge assumption. And the sour attitude? Maybe they hate their job or wish they were doing something else. They did tell me that the cheese cakes were gluten free and there was that one sad cake thing that was gluten free. Most of the case was empty and maybe if they cleaned up the crumbs and consolidated items, the case would have looked better. I came in excited and dealing with this person was a total drag and a bummer, so I won't be back. Unlike Mariposa Bakery, where the people are usually nice, until my last visit (I haven't been back). I've read about their other locations, because I'm never coming back here, and horrible experiences with employees seem to be a theme. I don't know what the employee experience is, but I hope they get it together because they seem to have a good product and people are complaining about the staff. I wonder if this is why the Berkeley store closed. Because after my experience here, I know that Timeless coffee, may need to go and invest in some time, so that they can realize their goal of surviving as a business. Now, I know that the person, with whom I spoke, would not want me to comment on them or their body or how they present themselves. I did comment on their demeanor and attitude. That being said, I'd appreciate it if they didn't blame my allergies on the ingestion of milk. They aren't a doctor, they don't know me and they don't they know what I put in my body. Timeless Coffee will forever be one of my favorites. I like their baked goods better than most of their drinks, but for drinks, my go to's are matcha lattes and golden milk lattes, with the exception of sometimes getting coffee or hot cocoa. I came in today around 10:30 am and they were already sold out of almost all baked goods. I got an iced matcha latte and my friend got an espresso to dine in. Both were presented beautifully. No WiFi Rude service Nasty food I went to this cafe to work for an hour or two. I ordered a sandwich and coffee. They were not friendly at all (in my opinion it's quite rude to not greet guests, or to respond with "what can I get you?" when a guest says "hi, how are you?" But I understand this is more acceptable in the Bay Area than where I grew up ) the self serve water jug was empty. The sandwich was soggy, had one layer of plant based meat, and tasted disgusting... like chemical cleaners or something. No wifi in a cafe is a new one for me. I had to leave to get my work done. While the employees apparently strive to do the bare minimum, and they don't offer you WiFi, you're prompted to leave a minimum 15% tip at the counter. I saw a barista take cash and then proceed to dip their bare hand into coffee beans without washing them to make a pour over. It was quite off-putting. Timeless is a cozy spot with tons of amazing plant-based baked goods. We're not even vegan and we enjoyed everything we tried including oatmilk lattes, a massive potato empanada the size of my face, the cheesy pepperoni roll, and the passionfruit donut -- yep all vegan!
