I love a Mellow Mushroom pizza and this location was just fine. I ordered my favorite, the Super Pep, with pepperoni, peppers, hot honey, ricotta, and cheese. They forgot the ricotta and the hot honey. I had to bring it back to get it fixed. They added ricotta to the pizza that had been out of the oven for 30 minutes. By the time I got home, the pizza was cold and the bottom crust was burned. It really turned me off from this location. The manager did apologize, but the pizza was still a disappointment for $25. read more

Idk if our waitress was having a bad day or not but she forgot our order, only refilled our drinks once, wasn't around to ask for anything and then charged us for the wrong table. The cheesy bread was good but honestly for me the prices were too high for this food that wasn't that good. I would not eat here again but I always say try everything at least once. I went to this Mellow Mushroom about a month ago. There were three of us and we ordered the Holy Shitake and Veg Out pizzas. It was the most delicious pizza I've ever tasted in my entire life! I went to one in Raleigh and it was good but not AS good as this one. Someone at the DTWS location really knows what they are doing. The pizzas looked beautiful and tasted amazing. Amazing experience was had at this location! We got here on a saturday night (after a yep event) and were hoping they would take our order. They happily took our order but sadly only for take out. So we pkaced an ordere for the veggie pizza and it was super amazing!! The size, the flavor and the crisp crust was absolutely awesome. Extremely poor service and this isn't the first time. I walked in and sat down at the bar around 4:30pm because no one was waiting or watching to greet customers. I sat at the bar waiting to be acknowledged and received ZERO acknowledgment. There was a guy standing where the To-Go orders are placed but he was looking dumbfounded so I am not sure if he was new or just zoned out. There were two other patrons sitting at the bar looking anxiously for food or beverages I presume, but no one was actively tending to them. A younger slender woman emerged from behind the counter with a cleaning rag and she looked annoyed as two patrons came in and asked to be seated. After that she yelled back to another woman that she had two in the outside dining area. At this point, I see a woman obsessively cleaning the wall of the kitchen area and she is cleaning it so vehemently that I thought she was on punishment or on kitchen duty in basic training. This was the straw that broke the camels back! I left and as I'm walking out I was still not acknowledged. Not even, buy thank you for coming to sit and watch us do nothing! This was the most mediocre pizza I've ever had in my life. To begin, we were one of only two parties in the entire restaurant. Even though, it took an HOUR to eat here. Which, okay, if you're some hippy dippy place, you'll say "be cool man," but the street is paid parking. So strike one. Then I ordered the "Mighty Meaty," and it came with chewable bacon. Have you ever wanted to chew your pizza? Well now's your chance. IMHO, it should be crispy, like a well-cooked piece of pepperoni. I picked all the half cooked bacon off my pizza and I was left with a disappointingly boring pizza. I got the great white pizza and had a slice of the pepperoni/hot honey/ricotta pizza someone else had and it was phenomenal! The great white had a nice tang from the roasted tomatoes and I loved how much sweetness came through on the hot honey pizza. Had a very positive experience dining at Mellow Mushroom when our son visited. When we ordered he told the server he had a gluten allergy, to which the server replied, "thank you so much for letting me know." The restaurant offers a gluten free crust and there are several pre-selected topping combos from the menu (Kosmic Karma, for example) that can be prepared "certified gluten free." Or, you can choose from their list of gluten free toppings and build your own pizza. On their website they note that they use gloves, aprons and a special prep area for their gluten free offerings. Much appreciated! Our son ordered the Mighty Meaty and found it to be quite tasty. I ordered a holiday drink, the Merry Mule, which included cranberry syrup, house made lime syrup, and Captain Morgan Spiced Rum, and it was festive and delicious. My Great White Pizza was tasty along with the smaller size Enlightened Spinach Salad. My husband got a calzone, which he thoroughly enjoyed. Great food and service, no complaints. Our server was nice though and everyone smiled at us and seemed happy, so that was definitely a plus. I would usually order pizza but our server said the meatballs were amazing so I decided to give it a try. I probably should have sent it back, but I don't like to do that... just wanted to put my experience out there just in case anyone else loves a good meatball sub as much as I do. We ordered a build your own gluten free pizza and a build your own regular crust pineapple, ham, and red pepper pizza. They tasted pretty good. The restaurant was very helpful and prompt about getting us our food in a timely manner. I will say that sometimes else was in the elevator and the smell made me and my wife want it. We've talked about visiting Mellow Mushroom for a while now. Since my wife and I were both off work for the Labor Day weekend, we decided to chose a restaurant in downtown Winston. We found street parking in the area and were actually initially headed to another restaurant/bar. We approached the intersection where Mellow Mushroom is located and decided to stop in. The interior decor and feel reminds us a lot of Kaleidoscope Pizzeria & Pub in Medford, Oregon, which we absolutely love and haven't been to in several years. Kaleidoscope has a Grateful Dead theme which also includes a lot of tie dye. The interior of Mellow Mushroom is similar in many ways and is fun and welcoming. We were seated promptly, provided menus and offered drinks. As we perused the menu and did some research we were surprised to learn they were founded in 1974 in Atlanta, and have approximately 200 locations throughout the US, primarily in the Southeast. Our server brought our drinks and we asked him for his recommendations and inquired about the size of the pizza's. He was friendly and helpful and gave us a few more minutes to make our selections. Upon his return, we placed our orders. My wife was being good and decided to try one of their salads. I knew I had to try one of their pizza's and was debating between the 10 inch and the 14 inch because I was confident that I wanted to have leftovers. In the end, my wife chose the Enlightened Spinach Salad with grilled chicken and I ordered the 10 inch Mighty Meaty with extra sauce. My wife used the restroom while we waited and confirmed that it was clean and well stocked. Our meals arrived in a timely fashion and looked incredible. We were very impressed. We both enjoyed the experience and food. We kept commenting about the similarities to Kaleidoscope. We also liked the street side of their dining area which allows the doors to open to the sidewalk area and provides an outdoor sidewalk dining experience along 4th Street. It was a good experience, however, I am a pizza connoisseur and although this was good pizza, I would not consider it great. However, we saw other items such as the calzone and various sandwiches and they looked delicious. My wife also really enjoyed her salad and we want to come back and try additional items on the menu, we would also like to visit some of their other locations as well. read more

The food was amazing, our order had absolutely no issues. We ordered 3 pizzas and 2 orders of wings, and 6 drinks. Our time at the Mellow Mushroom was great until our server came over to us as we were leaving and asked "was your service not good enough" as she did not feel we left enough on the tip. Our bill was $109 and the service was good but I didn't feel it was worth more than $10 considering we were hardly there an hour, didn't ask for anything to be dramatically changed. Which I then proceeded to go back and give her $18 more. She hardly said anything about me giving her more just acting like she wanted more of a tip. Which she got an I now regret giving her that because I felt her approaching us was incredibly rude the way she handled it and I had absolutely no idea how much tip was left. OK... I have to admit... This review is coming after at least 10 trips to mellow mushroom. Honestly, I would never review Pizza Hut, so I never thought to review the Mushroom. That's not fair to the Mushroom because this is not on the same planet as Pizza Hut. The menu here is varied. That's great because sometimes not everybody wants pizza. So if you're with the group and only some of you want pizza while the rest, want other things, there's more than enough on the menu to satisfy everyone in your party On one of my visits I got meatballs, bruschetta and beer. On other visits, I have gotten slices of pizza... And on others whole pies. Regardless of what you get, the food is going to be really good. I think the mushroom pizza is one of the top five pizza experiences I've had in life. They also serve up a pretty good burger. I am a bit of a pizza snob, and I hate when somebody screws up pizza because it seems so easy to do The people at mellow mushroom know what they're doing. We ordered a medium pizza and when the order was ready the staff mentioned they made the pizza too small. One of the options was to make another pizza to make up for the size difference. It was our first time to this chain as we were staying down the street at the Embassy Suites. The inside is fun and the atmosphere is pretty cool. We walked in at 6 PM on a Friday night during a bike run and we're seated immediately. Our waiter came up to us right away, and was very attentive. Took our drink orders - but took about 15 minutes to get them, so we ordered a second round right away. We ordered the wings and they were AMAZING. So tender and the flavor was incredible. We shared the Buffalo chicken pizza for dinner. I thought it was good and had great flavor with the onions and bacon. It did have a lot of crust around the ends (and not much of the toppings)- but that seems to be their style of pizza. All in all it was a cool place in DT WS! Giving a 4-star bc they were out of many of the different tequilas that make the margaritas different on the menu and drinks took quite awhile. read more

What they lack in service makes up for in food. It was a quiet weeknight with not patrons. Our waitress was young, and perhaps she didn't like the idea of serving a feral 1.5 year old; but maybe she could have pretended better. The food took a long time, we ordered 1 pizza and a salad. The baby was actually quite calm for the first bit while we waited which I was grateful for but and being younger the waitress probably didn't realize babies move at lightning speed and setting a thing of vinagrette in front of him would encourage him to test these quick reflexes and unleash his feral tendencies to dump the entire dressing on himself but I appreciate her quick action to bring us cloths. The car still smells like vinaigrette from his stroller . The food was excellent, as always but a refill would have been nice, especially seeing as it was a slow night, and the employees were all just hanging around the register chatting most of the time.
