Margherita pizza
Sarah C.

Despite being in such a good location, I can't believe I've never been here. I stopped by on the way back from Costco to get a 10" margherita pizza. I watched them make it. It was delicious. I'm sure I'll be back.

The pizza was ridiculously wrong. See picture. Totally ludicrous. I ordered a pepperoni pizza, and I think there was one pepperoni per slice.... a little tiny bit of cheese... and oh my the sauce. So. much. sauce. What did I do to the Pizza Gods to deserve this?!! I didn't open it before I left. LUDICROUS, I say! I should have ate my $20 dollars. MUY MAL! OY VEY!

There is a reason why Mario's is able to add new locations from time to time. Just plain consistently good pizza, Napolitano and/or New York style which are basically one in the same. One slice of pizza is enough for a meal, rather huge. There are other New York Pizza options in this area but each has their own slight variation on the formula. To me Mario's hits the home run with a perfect balance between cheese and the sauce. The sauce is particularly good has lots of flavor and maybe even a slight slight bite or kick to it. Crust is also on target just slightly charred but not burnt and far from burnt to a crisp. Reminds me of the Pizza I ate often growing up in NYC. Government and I love being able to fold a pizza and eat it properly like a New Yorker. Some other good New York chains may not have the crust as right one in particular makes it so thin at times that it's kind of hard to eat it easily with one hand. But not Mario's CONSISTENTLY proper. Owners are fro the city, Staten Island if I am correct. Home to lot's of Italians. And obviously the skills have been passed down to the staff at every location I have had the privilege to sample. CONSISTENCY. This location at Cloverdale by Atrium Wake Forest Baptist hospital I think may be the original Mario's location? It can accommodate a huge number of clients with so many tables and chairs and even barstools which I think is really cool especially for lunch on the run gives me the feeling of New York City. Some years back the restaurant was remodeled and they have done a nice job with bold colors and tile floors and tile in the bathrooms. Love the LCD screen menus and the pictorial representation of how big the different size pizzas are. Makes everything very clear. And the staff run a smooth operation. And the guy at the cash register as a friendly demeanor. Always happy with my home for pizza, MARRIO's. Especially the two very close locations to my house in Ardmore. As a NYC'er I strongly recommend any MARIO'S.

Good hot and fresh pizza. Service was quick. Girl at the front was helpful! Restaurant was clean. We ate outside to enjoy the nice evening weather. No complaints on this one. First time here and would return when I head back into town!

I've been eating at Mario's Pizza for about 20 years but usually don't go to this location. This location is larger than the other 3 Mario's in our area. It's off the beaten path a little on Cloverdale next to Panera. I came in for lunch with my husband on a Saturday around 12:30 pm. It wasn't busy when we got here but the dining room soon filled up with customers and a small soccer team that sat in the back of the restaurant(Oh the memories!) We ordered a small cheese pizza, well done because I like a crispy crust and I can't come here without getting a Chicken Philly made 'Mario's way' or I'd hate myself. Seriously, I could die happy eating this sandwich and tacos for the rest of my life. Of course our food was amazing, the service was super friendly and fast. All the usual great things that keep me coming back, but THIS location has two awesome things the others(well, at least the one on Hanes Mall Blvd) doesn't. #1: Cheerwine in the fountain. Yep! My favorite local soft drink is available at this location. #2 THE Tiramisu. It's in a little plastic cup and I don't know why, but I love it! The other location switched to a sliced version and it's just not good to me. The little cup is the one I crave. I'll keep ordering it as long as they keep carrying it so please don't ever switch Cloverdale Mario's! You are going to be my first choice location from now on.

Pepperoni and mushroom 19 inch

Mario's is an excellent pizza spot right near my house which makes for an awesome quick fix when I'm craving pizza! I've had 3 different pizzas here and each one is consistent and delicious. The service is fast and efficient. I have only ever done take out so I cannot speak to the quality of service on the inside but everyone on the phone has been so friendly. The pizzas are HUGE so if you're entertaining, this would be a great option. The slices are just so impressive. My favorite pizza right now is the pepperoni/mushroom. Order some marinara for dipping and, oh! They have really good ranch. Overall, a really solid choice in Winston for a good pizza.

We ordered the Arancini di Riso for an appetizer and it tasted delicious. We just wish we had 4 instead of 2. I ordered Salsiccia pizza and it tasted wonderful. I appreciated the balance of the dish and that I had plenty leftover. My husband ordered the Beef Short Ribs Barbaresco and said the short ribs were tender and the tomato jam added a sweet note. I also had Sparkling Strawberry Lemonade and it tasted delicious refreshing and was a great option for those who don't want alcohol. Our server for this experience did a wonderful job and I would recommend this place to others.

I am a bit disappointed. This Italian restaurant is not for the traveler that has actually been to…read moreItaly because it will bend reality for you with sadness since this is not what you'd expect. The tagliatelle was not made with ragú that was marinara. Where was the red sauce?! It was like a light beef broth with noodles from chicken noodle soup. The nonna's baked ziti was a bit disappointing as well. It tasted as if nonna was cooking for someone with high blood pressure and didn't know how to substitute salt for better seasonings. Also why wasn't the Italian sausage baked within the baked ziti? Why offer a meat option if you're not going to add it in. The arancini was cheesy but it lacked the creaminess that it should have that adds to the flavor. The creamy burrata and prosciutto was probably the star of this experience. It was tasty, spicy, and delicious. The server was nice and prompt so I did enjoy her.

So, we hadn't returned to Fratelli's in years. At leas this time they didnt tell me that they…read moreconsider themselves the "premier Italian steakhouse" in Winston-Salem. It always begged the question..."where is the OTHER Italian steakhouse in Winston-Salem?" You certainly are the best if you are the only one. This evening we arrived from driving in from Charleston for our 7pm reservation. we were greeted and promptly seated. 15 minutes into the meal, I got a voice mail ( I turn my ringer off for dinner nowadays) telling me my table as available. I let our server know that we had received the message so that they could alert the front desk. A day or so afterwards I received an email from OpenTable letting them know that I never completed my reservation. That was out of control of the server, so let's talk about that. She was very friendly and did a good job with a table no complaints with that. We started the evening with the calamari. It was average, not terrific but certainly not bad. We also ordered a wedge salad which they graciously split into so we each could share some. It was a good wedge. We ordered a bottle of Tormaresca Primitivo wine, A nice deep ruby colored liquid, that tasted of dried red fruit, rose petal, & forest floor but with the acidity of which Italian reds are famed. We ordered the Tomahawk entree that included a big steak and two sides of a baked potato (loaded) and creamed spinach. All printed on a large wood carving board. Great presentation. Sides were pretty good. Steak looked wonderful..great crust and seasoning. Cooked perfectly to a medium rare. A really good steak for one that wasn't at Prime grade or better. All in all it was a good experience and I will definitely consider Fratelli's when being back in Winston-Salem.

While the foyer seemed unchanged, the rest of the restaurant was bright and gave a family dining / Cracker Barrel feel with the painted wooden walls and abundant tables and chairs. For the price of a meal here, you would expect a more upscale, low / sexy lighting that gives that Italian era vibe that they're going for. Now onto service, after receiving our waters, it was another 10 minutes before we saw anyone else to take our drink order. Because we had been waiting so long, we already knew what we wanted to order and took advantage of our server while we could. No telling how much longer we would have had to wait. Well it gets better. They bring our salads probably 5+ minutes later and still no drinks. It wasn't until I inquired about them that we received them. Once our main course arrived, we were hopeful but we quickly let down as we ate our steaks. I ordered MR and got M and my partner got MW when he ordered M. While it was supposed to be a night to celebrate, it was a night that ended with disappointment. We love Fratellis but not this new version.
