I've been a fan of Mario's pizza especially when wanting a quick slice. It's always a good bargain especially for the slice size especially with all the great specials on slices, subs, and pastas. The service was good. Quick counter service and a number system to grab your order. Good came out accurate and pretty quick. However I feel like the pizza was as good or warm as it is at the other locations in Winston. Usually the slice is hot and the banana peppers are also hot and not cold. I felt like the slice with the peppers wasn't ran through the oven at all and maybe just the slice was put in the oven for shorter than usual. The mozzarella sticks came out hot, fresh, with a melty cheese pull. Like I mentioned this the first time I've had a less than good experience so I will definitely give this location another try when in the area. read more

There is a reason why Mario's is able to add new locations from time to time. Just plain consistently good pizza, Napolitano and/or New York style which are basically one in the same. One slice of pizza is enough for a meal, rather huge. There are other New York Pizza options in this area but each has their own slight variation on the formula. To me Mario's hits the home run with a perfect balance between cheese and the sauce. The sauce is particularly good has lots of flavor and maybe even a slight slight bite or kick to it. Crust is also on target just slightly charred but not burnt and far from burnt to a crisp. Reminds me of the Pizza I ate often growing up in NYC. Government and I love being able to fold a pizza and eat it properly like a New Yorker. Some other good New York chains may not have the crust as right one in particular makes it so thin at times that it's kind of hard to eat it easily with one hand. But not Mario's CONSISTENTLY proper. Owners are fro the city, Staten Island if I am correct. Home to lot's of Italians. And obviously the skills have been passed down to the staff at every location I have had the privilege to sample. CONSISTENCY. This location at Cloverdale by Atrium Wake Forest Baptist hospital I think may be the original Mario's location? It can accommodate a huge number of clients with so many tables and chairs and even barstools which I think is really cool especially for lunch on the run gives me the feeling of New York City. Some years back the restaurant was remodeled and they have done a nice job with bold colors and tile floors and tile in the bathrooms. Love the LCD screen menus and the pictorial representation of how big the different size pizzas are. Makes everything very clear. And the staff run a smooth operation. And the guy at the cash register as a friendly demeanor. Always happy with my home for pizza, MARRIO's. Especially the two very close locations to my house in Ardmore. As a NYC'er I strongly recommend any MARIO'S. read more

This place is near the main hospital in the area, which makes it a great place to stop when you are in the mood for some good food slices. The prices aren't too bad. Free refills. On day 2 of working on my ham calzone I was given to wonder whether there is such a thing as "too much cheese." Maybe if I were making this for myself I would add a bit more ham and a touch less ooey, gooey, stretchy wonderful mozzarella. But I don't wish to appear unappreciative of this thing. The crust is great and the little cups of marinara on the side for dipping are fragrant, vivid and delicious. There doesn't seem to be much point in ordering online because I always have to reorder when I get there, and I find this odd but not annoying because service is fast and friendly and I like watching my food get made. So yes I recommend this place and this dish. If you're very, very hungry, this will fix that in a hurry and you should plan on leftovers. read more

Been eating at this Mario's for years. Always good service and good pizza. Until tonight. 6:40 PM. Nowhere near closing. Order a slice of pepperoni and mushroom. Cashier turns around and asks another employee if they are putting toppings on slices. Employee said no, cheese or pepperoni only. So I could order any size pizza in any topping combination I wanted, unless it was a slice. Never encountered this "policy" here or at any other place that sells pizza by the slice. Won't be returning to this location. Fortunately, the location just over a mile away had no issues satisfying their customer. read more

I've been eating at Mario's Pizza for about 20 years but usually don't go to this location. This location is larger than the other 3 Mario's in our area. It's off the beaten path a little on Cloverdale next to Panera. I came in for lunch with my husband on a Saturday around 12:30 pm. It wasn't busy when we got here but the dining room soon filled up with customers and a small soccer team that sat in the back of the restaurant(Oh the memories!) We ordered a small cheese pizza, well done because I like a crispy crust and I can't come here without getting a Chicken Philly made 'Mario's way' or I'd hate myself. Seriously, I could die happy eating this sandwich and tacos for the rest of my life. Of course our food was amazing, the service was super friendly and fast. All the usual great things that keep me coming back, but THIS location has two awesome things the others(well, at least the one on Hanes Mall Blvd) doesn't. #1: Cheerwine in the fountain. Yep! My favorite local soft drink is available at this location. #2 THE Tiramisu. It's in a little plastic cup and I don't know why, but I love it! The other location switched to a sliced version and it's just not good to me. The little cup is the one I crave. I'll keep ordering it as long as they keep carrying it so please don't ever switch Cloverdale Mario's! You are going to be my first choice location from now on. read more

Good pizza, BUT hygiene and and customer service concern with cashier!! I went to pick up my pizza yesterday. I was COMPLETELY turned off from how rude the cashier was. I'm gonna assume she must be related to the owner??? Otherwise, I couldn't imagine she'd have a job. She was mopping the floor when I came in, and acted as if I was disturbing her because I was picking up my pizza. Then after I paid for my food, the receipt came out of the machine. I didn't know I was supposed to take it myself. She gave me this frown and shoulder shrug like " okay why are you still standing here?". Even the cook noticed how rude she was, he said " Thank you Ma'am ", since she clearly doesn't know that's HER job. Hygiene wise, she must have ran her fingers through her hair like 25 times, while gathering my food!!! She needs to go be a surfer at a beach somewhere, where she can ply in her hair...and give up the cashier life. Customer service is clearly not her thing. Mario's Pizza has always been my favorite place to get pizza!! Ever since I was a little girl I dreamed of going to get a BIG slice of pepperoni pizza after I was done shopping for new shoes or clothes for school with my mom. Not only is the pizza itself amazing but it's big enough that one or 2 slices will be plenty to satisfy your lunch/dinner cravings. Pizza by the slice is available for cheese or pepperoni with additional toppings costing .50 each. But if you order a whole pizza with additional toppings, the pricing ends up being a better deal and you'll have leftovers for the next day!! When me and my family don't feel like cooking we typically get a large cheese pizza and that's enough to feed all of us for under $20. Their crust is thinner than most places, but I actually enjoy this because I can fold it in half if needed lol. In addition to pizza they have subs, salads, wings, strombolis, calzones, pasta, appetizers & desserts. Gluten Free & Cauliflower crust are also available, along with vegan cheese. Haven't tried any of those options myself, so not sure how they taste. Pizza listed under "The Worx" include Pizza Bianco, (ricotta, garlic, & mozzarella) 5 Boroughs, (meat lovers) & The Greenhouse (veggie pizza). Lots of choices and really good food!!! Mario's is an excellent pizza spot right near my house which makes for an awesome quick fix when I'm craving pizza! I've had 3 different pizzas here and each one is consistent and delicious. The service is fast and efficient. I have only ever done take out so I cannot speak to the quality of service on the inside but everyone on the phone has been so friendly. The pizzas are HUGE so if you're entertaining, this would be a great option. The slices are just so impressive. My favorite pizza right now is the pepperoni/mushroom. Order some marinara for dipping and, oh! They have really good ranch. Overall, a really solid choice in Winston for a good pizza. read more

The pizza and calzones are excellent here! The dining room is always clean and usually pretty quiet. It's an easy and quick place to eat that is reasonably priced. They also have cannolis which are a perfect dessert after pizza! The one time I had a problem with something I ordered they fixed it quickly and offered to give me a gift card for next time. I've been to several Mario's Pizza restaurants and never been disappointed...until now! There was a few tables open and not one had been cleaned from the prior patrons. When I asked the girl behind the counter to clean off the tables I got an eye roll and she attempted to give me some napkins to wipe off a table myself. I told her I didn't spill anything, I wanted the table clean and sanitized. What we got was some attitude and a dirty rag dragged across the table and zero effort to sanitize! Bad move Mario! First, I LOVE Mario's Pizza. Probably the best pizza in Winston. All the Mario's locations have great, authentic, quality, NY style Pizza. Even the cauliflower crust pizza is great! My family loves Mario's Pizza. This particular Cloverdale location has the rudest gal on the cash register. I haven't met anyone who HATES being in customer service more than her. She makes sure you know it too. Kitchen staff here is great! But at lunch time, the taller lady with straight hair, ruins the entire experience. Even if you order online and select curbside, she wants to give you an earful about not doing that right, yells at you for not parking in the right place, and generally acts like you're bothering her. I'm not one to turn to Yelp to leave a bad review after one bad experience. Anyone can have an off day. This particular person has been rude for years. Of the last more than 20 times over the years we've had pizza at this location of Mario's, she was somewhat pleasant once. The only reason they get two stars instead of one is because the food is so dang good! I just about won't go back there for lunch unless I know I'm going to have to bring a boatload of patience with me to deal with this lady. read more

I have an hour for lunch. Placed order online and paid with card to save time. I pickup my order and didn't check it (very bad mistake). I ordered and paid for their signature Worx pizza and two garden side salads one without olives and one with Xtra olives. After returning to work, I discovered I had a pepperoni pizza that looked like extremely old. And even the salads were wrong. I called back & explained my issue to a lady that relayed the conversation (in Spanish) to someone in the background. Tha person she was speaking to turned out to be the manager and he had me retell him everything the lady just relayed to him in Spanish. By this time my lunch was over. He offered me a store credit, or return my money to my card in 5-10 days, or I could return to the store for cash. He refused to deliver my correct order. I told him to put my money back on my card and I wanted to speak with the owner. He refused. I told him I would call the original store on Hanes Mall and speak with them. He told me he didn't care and that they were not professional. After reading Natalie N's review, I knew I had to give this place a try. I went with a 15"pepperoni pizza and the large cheese steak sub, it came to about $23. The guy who took my order on the phone was one of the friendlier order takers I have encountered. The interior is nice and is pretty big. If you wanted to eat in instead of take out there would be plenty of places to sit. The pizza was really good. A thinner crust that was cooked perfectly. The Philly Cheese steak was delicious as well. Sometimes those things can be pretty bland, that was not the case with this one. Next time I def. want to try the Chicken Philly and the garlic knots that I have heard so many good things about. read more

The food was awesome. Pros: Delicious food Cons: Door Dash. Don't use them. Delivery time was expected to be roughly thirty minutes. Marty showed up an hour and ten minutes later. The food was totally cold. Door dash kept saying the food was less than ten minutes out . .. that message popped up for about 40 minutes. We are three miles away from the restaurant and just needed it delivered because of a hectic day where we wanted to relax. I have been eating at a Mario location since they opened up Next to Target. I love the pizza by the slice. It's typically a quick, cheap meal. They are huge, messy, but ohhhhh so good. A guy I used to work with showed me how to fold it in half and eat it "the correct New York way." Be sure to have napkins on hand as it will drip and make a massively delicious mess. I highly recommend the sandwich, the Philly Cheese is one of the best around. I typically get the big one, and no side. But the "Freedom Fries" are really good especially when they are hot. My mom always order the turkey sandwich, which I've tried, always very good. The meat is fresh, and full of flavors. They can get a little heavy hand with the mayo, so you might want to ask for nine or light. The salads, yep you guest it good! The chef salad is packed with meat and cheese. The dressings are so good, and I would say they are freshly made. Even the pasta dishes are good. The chicken Parmesan is massive and very good. I have tried a majority of the menu. This was the first time I have ordered from this place and it will be the last. I had placed an order at 5:50 and didn't get my food til a little after 7, the pizza I got was cold and the crust felt like I was chewing on tree bark. If I wasn't so hungry I would have thrown everything I ordered away, the garlic bread felt like it was left out for a long period of time and had no flavor along with the pizza. The fried zucchini that my girlfriend ordered was soggy wet and cold. I'm glad other folks can say this place has some great food but what I had was the worst pizza I had yet. $54 for 3 appetizers and a pizza hell I could order from Marcos or papa johns with longer delivery time and still get a warm seasoned pizza and garlic bread for half the price. Ordered gluten free pizza from here for the first time. It was pretty much inedible. The outer crust was literally so burnt it crumbled trying to pick up the pizza.
