Poor management. Came Sunday night and because they had a party. They were acting as if they were holier than thou. We sat in an area with bottle service and we were told that we couldn't sit there. They put us in an anther area. Then Moved us. We were then told that area was bottle service as well. We just came from bottle service so we e didn't care to drink. They then told us the place they wanted to sit us was was "reserved" which didn't make any sense. Bc they didn't have reservations. We were literally going back and forth. So embarrassing for women in general. It's so sad when people hold other people to such high caliber for no reason... that's how these people are. I had a good time here, but ran into Some mishaps that would prevent me from returning. Two weeks ago we came here to celebrate my friends birthday. There was a group of about 8 of us, all women one male. We ordered two bottles of Patron for the table, and two hookahs, and two sampler platter's. All this came up to about $700 In order to keep the payment process smooth my group and I agreed that I would pay for the bill with my card, opposed to creating confusion and trying to split the bill seven different ways. I gave the waiter my credit card, five minutes later he then comes back and ask for ID. I never have any issues submitting my ID to prove who I am, as I understand the amount was high. My only concern with that is, wouldn't it be common practice to ask for the ID along with the card when submitted for payment? Another five minutes pass by he then comes back with my card telling me that my card was declined At this point I know some fishy stuff is going on, because I know I have plenty of money I would never leave my house to party without having enough money and then some! Also when my card is swiped and it gets declined I get a notification, that notification never showed up on my phone! Once he comes back with the nonsense story about my card not working, I obnoxiously open my bank app to show him that I have plenty of money available to pay for the table, I sent him back to go swipe the card again, he comes back and tells me that it's declined again and then sent me outside to an ATM to pull out $700 in cash at 11 PM at night! I never revived notification from my bank which is how I know this is biased tom foolery. They never swiped my card, my card was never declined, and they made me get cash because they assume that it was going to be a fraudulent charge, why ?? My group consisted of eight working class professionals, it's a shame that this even has to be stated, but we were definitely discriminated against so with that said I will never step foot in this tacky establishment again. Also, I want to point out that the vibe in the building was a nice vibe, it was a mixed crowd and everyone was chill I couldn't help but notice the little baldheaded guy in the collared shirt pacing back-and-forth all night with a flashlight. The fact of the matter is he is the bad energy in the building it's not the patrons, he creates an energy as if somethings going on while everyone is chilling! The first time we entered the lounge, we had a mix of guys/girls but when two of my male friends stepped out for a smoke and tried to get back in, the bouncer gave them a hard time WHILE letting the females in. We had to go outside just to get the bouncer to let them back in...again. It's just a lounge in Astoria that's not exclusive or anything. Clubs in the city treat their patrons better than this.. don't try to compete. If you do, at least show potential customers some respect less it'll hurt your business. For a party of 6, our bill came to $178. (gratuity of 18% automatically added). I'm not even sure what makes up that $150 base considering we only had 2 hookah pipes, 7 beers (presumably $8 because 5 Stellas were $40) and Whiskey/Coke was $15 each. Hookah were average - however, did not last long. We had the coals changed twice yet the hookah was still weak in the end.. We stayed a max of 2 hours so it wasn't even that long. TVs were tiny.. We wanted to watch COPA games but the TV were so many it was hard to follow...There are definitely better spots nearby that cater toward sports fan and you'll probably be paying less. False price advertising--the bartender and owner couldn't keep their lies straight about why my drink was more expensive than stated in the menu. Bartender says the menu is happy hour prices, although that is written nowhere in the menu. I speak to the owner and he lies and says the extra is tax. Completely unapologetic. 2. This place is great on weekday. They have DJ and happy hour prices every day after 8 pm. They have i think 6 margarita machine. Tried passion fruit which was not bad. Price is reasonable. Bouncers were friendly. Security in back too which is good. Good size dance floor and the place is huge so can accomodate large crowds. Party package reasonable price. I do def recommend this place for weekday. I haven't been here on weekend. Based on other reviews, it seems you may not receive the same service on weekend. I would be wary coming here with large group when crowded. It seems that they are quick to turn over tables to max out on busy nights based on other reviews. I would recommend owner informing customers and writing on menu a certain time limit on weekends when busy so customers are informed in advance and not surprised. read more

This was the exact vibe I was looking for - hookah with music and drinks but have the option of sitting down. We got here around 9pm on a Saturday night and were seated right away. The Yankees game was on so we watched that while still enjoying drinks and the hookah. The only thing I didn't like was when our waiter asked us if we wanted anymore drinks (I was still drinking mine and smoking my hookah) then told us other people were waiting for our seats. I have visited this place several times and on multiple occasions I've seen waiters flirting openly with other people's date. Here's why I gave the venue 1 star. I think any establishment has the right to be selective HOWEVER I enjoy a hassle-free night out. It was a Thursday evening. I had on jeans and sneakers and a casual top. I always look clean and put together. Upon approaching the first of THREE doormen (why the hell do we need 3 of you?) I was asked for my ID which I provided. I was made aware of how they don't tend to let men in without women. That already irritated me but I obliged anyway. I notified them that we had some men meeting us here. The first thing the bouncer says is "well, how are they dressed? Like are they coming here with pants sagging?" I was immediately annoyed by that comment especially coming from a black man. To assume that this is how they would be dressed was insulting as hell but I let it slide. I handed over my purse to be checked. I told the guy I had some feminine things in there that I didn't really want him to see and that's what was in the pocket. He grabbed my bag and purposely looked in the pocket and then mocked me and made jokes about that. Annoyed ONCE again and I didn't even get inside yet. I could have slapped him for that. I sat down at a table and noticed a few "sagging pants" and casually dressed men. I also noticed a few groups of men strolling in without women. When my friends arrived we had to "come outside to get them." By this time, I had already made up in my mind that I have no intentions on coming back. The inside of the establishment is fine. The drinks are okay. Hookah was good. My server was nice. But that door experience pretty much ruined it for me. I would definitely have to say that I have mixed feelings about this establishment, so I'll start with the good and end with the bad. On Sunday through Thursday, they have a happy hour with drink specials and hookah specials at pretty reasonable prices. They've also got free wifi, which is great because I rarely have cell service in the lounge for some reason. They always have a DJ, and he plays a variety of dance music, from rap to Spanish to reggae and soca. I really enjoy the diversity. People dance and overall the atmosphere is fun and upbeat. The hookahs are well made and the drinks are also good. I usually get the bulldog. Now for the bad. While my waiter is usually great with customer service, I cannot say the same about the bouncers and security. It is loud with the music playing, but the waiter checks on us often and always gets the orders right. However, the bouncers are super rude! If you're in a group they ask if there's women with you otherwise you won't get a table inside. I know this must be a company policy made by the owners but I find it extremely unprofessional and a huge turn off from the place. The bouncers always have a nasty attitude and are really discriminatory with their remarks. They definitely need to look into that ASAP!!!! It makes me not want to return there. read more

I don't really understand all the bad reviews on this page, I've never had a bad run in at Melody's. We came in last night and the owner came out himself to greet us, since he knew my friend and he was a regular. The bouncers were professional and we got in with no problems. We were seated and greeted right away by the staff. It was about 50% busy at the time. We started the night off with a few drinks and a hookah, which was absolutely amazing by the way. It tasted really good and wasn't harsh or anything. The music was really good, I was vibing the whole night. Great selection of songs and the dj's took requests and played them in about one song and mixed them in nicely. There's so many places in New York where he dj's are complete aholes and don't take requests, which really doesn't help anyone turn up. After a bit we decided to get an appetizer to eat so we wouldn't be drinking on an empty stomach, which was pretty decent. I forgot the name of it but it was basically bread with cheese in it. The bathroom lines could get a bit long because it's only one person in the bathroom at a time, and only two bathrooms, one for men one for women. My friend decided to surprise us with a bottle, which was nice on his part and really took the night to a new level. The music got even better and the whole club was into it. Overall we had a very pleasant night and no issues whatsoever, unlike some of the other reviews on here. A lot of people expect it to be a restaurant like level of service or something, which it's not. It's more of a club and that's the service you get, not to say it's bad or anything. This is the busiest spot on steinway for a reason, even on a monday night. It's because people have fun, and that's what it's all about.
