UES Piano Bar sounds awesome and it is! We've lived nearby for 12 years and finally stopped in on a classic Manhattan Saturday night in January. The line moved quickly and WHAM! the second we walked through the door, the energy hit us like seeing a best friend. The live music was fantastic: a great multi-piece band singing classic favorites. Add in friendly people, attentive staff, and a lively setup with seats, tables, dancing, and a fun crowd the entire time we were there. Highly recommended for a high-karma, feel-good night out. Melody's Piano Bar is hands down one of my favorite places to go in NYC. It is chic, elegant, warm, and incredibly fun -- the kind of place that feels special the moment you walk in. The music is fantastic. On Thursdays and Fridays, David plays the piano with an exquisite vibe from late afternoon till the early evening. He always creates the perfect sophisticated start to the evening, and from 8:00 on (9 in the summer), the musical talent is always amazing. Saturday nights are especially wonderful, with Isaak singing absolutely beautiful renditions of classic jazz standards. And yes -- everyone can dance! It is impossible not to when the music and atmosphere are this good. The space itself is gorgeous. The wallpaper is beautiful, and every area of the restaurant has its own personality. There's a sexy, intimate room in the back with small tables, a fabulous bar, and a front room with comfortable banquettes that are perfect for settling in and enjoying the evening. The menu may be limited, but everything they serve is delicious. The sliders are terrific, the grilled cheese sandwich is unlike any grilled cheese you have ever tasted, the fresh vegetables are wonderful, the shrimp cocktail is excellent, and of course, you absolutely have to save room for the chocolate dessert. Melody's has everything I love in a night out -- elegance without being stuffy, fabulous music, delicious food, a beautiful setting, and an atmosphere that makes you want to stay for hours. To be perfectly honest, I didn't arrive with high expectations for the menu. I carry a certain bias against bar food, even at a place as sophisticated as Melody's, and I was happy to be proven completely wrong. I've had my share of salmon tartares elsewhere, and this one stands out as a favorite. Just a few blocks away we have the Melody's Piano Bar. Ah yes, I've been there before and really liked it. We were greeted at the door like we were celebrities, and got seated in a corner with what I would call "The A" table, and proceeded to go through their menu. We all opt for different versions of a Classic Gin Martini (shaken of course). They were all excellent. The music was easy going that helped erase our hectic day of work and logistics. On a Saturday evening it became packed after around 7 ish..reserved tables; singles; dates..it was lovely..They had nice themed drinks..I enjoyed one..but I stuck it out to a good ol extra dirty martini..The bartenders were kind and efficient. I've never experienced so much disrespect in an establishment in my entire life! My friend and I wanted to end the evening with a piano bar and the moment we walked in the doorman told us to go outside for a few minutes to cool off which strike me by surprise. He assumed we've been drinking and we didn't want to cause any issues so we stepped outside for a couple of minutes and came back in. I gave him my ID and he said to me "why are you looking at me like that, if you keep looking at me like that you'll be right back outside." I didn't respond to him because I just wanted to enjoy my last evening in NYC! When I went in I asked to speak to a manager because I didn't like how I was spoken to. The manager Malik said he would speak to the doorman and that we could have a seat and a server would be right with us. We were there for 15 minutes and not one server said anything to us! I decided this was not the place for us and I went to the bar to grab water before departing. When the manager Malik walked by again I told him him just so you know a server never came to see us. He told me I told you that you had to go to the bar to order. I responded and said you never told me that and then he said you know what you can leave. I said ok that's fine and the same rude doorman came to our table and told us we had to go. We got up to leave and I just had a feeling that I should record what's going on just in case and I'm glad I did! The doorman was so nasty towards me and snatched my phone out of my hand while I was recording him! Luckily I was able to snatch it back because I can tell he wanted to break my phone so I wouldn't be able to upload the video of him antagonizing me! There's a portion of the drink menu for non-alcoholic drinks. He shouldn't receive an eye roll and attitude from the waitress when he orders a non-alcoholic drink... And please, everyone, be aware that even if you are seated all the way at the opposite side of the room from the piano, everyone in your party will be charged $10 per person as a "piano fee" and no - the host, waitress, or am other employees will not tell you about this prior to when you finally receive the check. The drinks have fun names, but not $20 - $22 ingredients. The piano is nice, but not worth a $10 per person fee. There's other places in the neighborhood. read more

Has the feel of a classy upscale neighborhood evening cocktail spot. We dropped in for a quick drink after dinner nearby, and enjoyed a cocktail with some live music from a jazz style trio. The crowd was well dressed and maybe more on the mature side! Vibe was a relaxed classy cocktail lounge. The waitresses were elegant (but) also quite slow, when we first sat down we were happy to absorb the atmosphere and look around, then choose a drink from the menu but after a while ended up having to basically wave someone over. My other gripe was that it ended up being quite pricey, we each had one drink, so a total of only 2 drinks, then they added a $20 music charge, so after tax and a tip the check was $70 which seemed a lot for 2 drinks. The place seems like it will do well, has not been open long and was busy, it's a good addition to the neighborhood and a nice alternative to the many other bars. read more
