Great food, great service, great live music. Would definitely recommend. Try to get a reservation because this place gets packed!

Prohibition is an awesome bar, restaurant and live music venue. They open at 4:30pm and start serving food at 5pm. They have an awesome happy hour with $12 cocktails and $8 wine. I had the tom cat tonic and it was amazing!!! I did the restaurant week menu which was $45 for 3 courses - I chose the heirloom carrots, gnocchi and chocolate cake. It was a solid, good meal. The bar snacks sounded good too and are only $10 during happy hour. Service was spectacular, very attentive and friendly. The restaurant is pretty large and has a speakeasy bar in the back. The bathroom situation is not ideal - located down a flight of stairs past an open kitchen, but what can you do? Live music begins at 7pm and runs for most of the evening. Truly underrated hip spot in a neighborhood that lacks a bit of edge at times.

We came to this place to have a get together with friends. The ambiance was incredible! Very chic and low lighting was perfect for a Saturday night. They had live music which was also so much fun! We sang along and enjoyed our drinks and food. My husband got the braised pork shank and I got the grandmas sauce pasta dish. DELICIOUS!! We had the lamb and burratta with truffle fries to share- also to die for. We ended the night with some espresso martinis for a sweet ending. Amazing food, great service and entertainment. Definitely will come back! Ask for Ty! Best server!!

Another exceptional visit to Prohibition. Great food, outstanding cocktails. Great vibes with a live singer.

It's all about the vibes. Went here for drinks ONLY, and musical performance. Before you come in, there's already a $20 fee for entrance. The musical group or band changes every weekend or every night I think. But for that night, it was a band singing all the great tunes of 90s and early aughts. It was great. We had two glasses of Chardonnay each, service was nice and quick. Will come back and check out the food next time!

    Dessert!

We came here for a family dinner on a Saturday night and the service was superb! Parker is just the best! They had a wonderful manager named David -- he rocks! As far as food, I had the best fish and chips I've had in my 59 years. The music was great, and they even brought us a sweet treat from the kitchen. 10/10 would recommend!

We originally booked the Baylander for our son's 1st birthday, but due to inclement weather, we had to move our party over to Prohibition. From booking our party a couple months ago, up until the very last moments of our event, all of the staff that we communicated with and worked with were extremely helpful, friendly, and flexible and they truly made our son's first birthday an event to remember forever! For the price point, I think it's money well spent. Because the food was delicious, and all of our guests commented that they enjoyed the food and drinks. We hired our own outside entertainment, and we were also allowed to bring in outside catering, strictly for a whole lechon carving and a custom cake, so I thought that was nice of the establishment to allow us to do that. They also had A/V equipment available that allowed us to loop a slideshow that I had made. They handled our cake cutting and even helped us clean up at the end of the event. If I had another special occasion to have a party, I would work with this group again!

I have had our staff holiday party here twice. Both times the space accommodated well over 120 people easily. We did passed hors d'oeuvres and cocktails. They offer multiple menu options, depending on your budget and set up preference. The staff is super accommodating and I love their cool outfits with suspenders, which match the cool space and decor. There are plenty of bathrooms for the number of people we had in the space and two full bars so didn't feel crowded. There is a stage for entertainment and they let us bring in our own DJ, but also offered to help provide us with entertainment if needed. The space in front of the stage was cleared of tables so that people could dance, and dance they did!! Michael the owner was very kind and allowed us to reschedule not once but twice without penalty and was very understanding. He checked in throughout the party to make sure everyone was good and even followed up afterwards. Food is delicious. drinks were great and plentiful and the venue was cost friendly. They also offered coat check, since we had the party during the winter months, which I find most places cannot accommodate and so then you end up with a sea of coats everywhere. Necessary! All and all great space. Great staff. Great price. Great location. Clean space. Great food. And my team had a great time. We will be back. Thank you Prohibition Team , From the Mount Sinai Breast Cancer Team.

Prohibition is by far one of my all time favorite places to be. Either for a quick happy hour after work or for a private event I am never disappointed. Drinks on point, food always delicious and the staff is absolutely amazing, attentive and welcoming. The vibes is so chill and relaxed I'll always be a loyal patron.

How can one egg roll be $15?
    Scott J.

We came during happy hour only to leave upset that we didn't get a happy hour menu. The egg roll starter was super tiny and $15. Then the burrata was $20 and only came with two pieces of bread. We got charged another $5 for extra toasted bread. I can see why this place is called prohibition. I plan to live up to its name and not come back. I should've skipped going there to begin with. There are way too many other places around with true happy hours.

Went here for the music on Saturday. Great band. Very crowded, but that's because it's a fun place with a good band and fun vibe. We sat at bar seats for first half hour and ordered our wine and beer. Just before band starts, they move the bar seats. So ok, we stand for the rest. Fun music made all worthwhile!

Let me be clear, the main redeeming aspect of this place is the talent on stage. The musicians were exceptional and deserved far better than the environment surrounding them. I ordered a scotch neat, something I'm very familiar with, and immediately knew something was off. When I politely flagged down a waiter, he responded with visible annoyance, as if I was inconveniencing him by being a paying customer. I explained the issue and simply asked if it could be checked or replaced. Instead of addressing it professionally, he walked away without a word, returned holding the bottle and my glass, and said, "this is what you were poured," before carelessly tossing the drink back onto the table. No apology. No explanation. Just attitude. It escalated from there. When I confronted him about his behavior, he denied it outright and then doubled down with an aggressive, confrontational stance, getting in my face and effectively threatening me. His exact words? "If I tossed your drink on the table, it would have been all over you!", and "Man, shut yo ass!" Completely unprofessional and unacceptable in any setting, let alone an establishment that positions itself as upscale. The manager's response was just as disappointing. Instead of addressing the behavior of his staff, he blamed me, asking why I "chased" the waiter and suggesting I should have gone directly to him. That's not how basic customer service works. I tried to resolve the issue directly, respectfully, and without escalation, something his employee clearly had no interest in. I was thinking if I talk to the waiter first, he wouldn't get in trouble with his manager. To make matters worse, the manager continued to defend the waiter rather than de-escalate the situation. At that point, it was clear this wasn't a one-off issue; it's a reflection of how this place operates. I paid my bill and left. For a venue that attracts world-class jazz talent, it's astonishing how low the standard of service is. This place is doing a disservice to the artists who perform there. I will never return, and I would strongly caution anyone expecting a professional, respectful experience to look elsewhere.

The unassuming outside hides a tremendously cool inside. As soon as we walked through the door, we were greeted warmly by Dinara (sp?) who was effortlessly cool in her own right. A young lady ( whose name I didn't catch) promptly seated us. It's not a huge space, but we didn't feel cramped. There was a bar up front, tables along the side walls and a stage in the back. Apparently they have live music nights and open mic nights too. When we went there was 80s/90s music playing and it was very cool. The decor is unapologetically Black and I love it! The restroom is clean and contemporary. The service staff is amazing and attentive. They gave us cornbread with berry butter. Very tasty! My only complaint is that they could have given us each a piece instead of giving us one piece cut into 2. Lol! But it was free! And if that's the "worst" part of the experience then you know it was an overall good time! I was wavering between whether or not to get the collard greens and asked if they were sweet or bitter or spicy. Our server went and got a small sample for me to try because it was hard to describe. I was grateful for her willingness to let me try them. By the way I did order them and they are more savory than any of the above. It's a gentle savory flavor. I also got rice and beans and teriyaki salmon. The beans weren't exactly what I expected. They were black beans which I don't typically associate with soul food. They weren't bad although next time I think I'll get potatoes. My dining companion got lamb chops and collard greens and mac and cheese. She loved everything and at it right up! The food presentation, flavor, and portion size were all good. I didn't leave feeling overstuffed but I was satisfied. The servers checked in on us an appropriate amount of times (we didn't feel rushed or under surveillance but they made sure we had what we needed). The manager/owner stopped by to make sure everything was good and chatted with us. All around good vibes & good eats--I would go again. Highly recommend!

Thank you, Valerie Simpson, and your late husband; Nickolas Ashford, for creating this amazing venue. The guest host for the evening was the incredibly talented Olutayo. Olutayo is joy exemplified. His vocal range, dance moves, entertaining facial expressions...infectious. I fell in love with this man and did not hesitate to tell him so. Beyond his talents was Olu's ability to manage / juggle the night's open-mic entertainers with such grace. From the lyrics of En Vogue and Salt-N-Peppa: "Whatta Man, Whatta Man, What a Mighty Good Man!" All of the entertainers were incredible. What a range of singers, dancers, a poet, a violinist. And the band! The band! The band! Come on!! Outstanding. I was seated next to Darius, one of the several background vocalists that were positioned throughout the lounge. We became fast friends in this space filled with exuberance. Darius was a delight. He was also a big brother to me, making sure no one blocked my view of the performance. Thank you, Darius, that was so kind of you. I had such a wonderful time being in the company of all these amazingly talented people. It was a 6-hour dopamine rush that should not be missed. The dinner that was served was top-notch. I had the Sea Bass. My friend had the Golden Fried Chicken. Both meals were delicious. I had the ginger mocktail with rosemary and blueberries - so yummy I had two. Dessert was key lime pie - suffer we will. Our server; Vickie, was a delight and amazing to observe as she maneuvered around the performers and kept us and everyone around us well served and continually hydrated. Vickie is to be commended for how hard she worked throughout the evening. I made sure our tip reflected our appreciation of her. Put the Sugar Bar on your bucket list when visiting NYC. You'll leave there feeling you have experienced Heaven on Earth.
