Laura and Nour catered my wedding two years ago and filled all my friends and family with the most delicious foods we could have ever asked for. Bacon wrapped scallops with pineapple, chicken satay skewers, spanakopita, crab stuffed mushrooms, empanadas. Absolutely everything that they made, we ate and we loved. People still talk about the great food that we had at our wedding. My husband and I hired Melrose Catering for our small wedding of about 35/40. Because of the low guest count we weren't offered a tasting. We decided to blindly trust all the amazing reviews on yelp, and have them cater our special day with an Italian vegan buffet. Oh boy we LOVED the vegan lasagna so much. Everybody (vegans and non-vegans) was raving about how delicious and flavorful the food was. Not familiar with the catering companies in the area, I was referred to Melrose Catering by a work colleague. I was worried that our event was too small for them to take on but they were able to manage it with no problem at all. Justina was great from start to finish, helping me pick out the right amount of food. We had some guests that were vegan and they raved about the avocado cucumber sushi and spring rolls. Our consisted of pork pot stickers, Thai beef skewers, chicken satay, Asian chopped salad and assorted cookies and everything was delicious!! Melrose Catering is the best choice we could have made for food at our wedding. Many of our guests are vegan, so Melrose served up an all vegan Mexican buffet! I am a vegetarian and found it difficult to find a place with a variety of vegetarian and vegan dishes that did not all include tofu. Chef Nour went over the menu with me for our event, and I ended up with a wide assortment of amazing appetizers and entrees. Melrose Catering did a very good job for our backyard reception. Stephen initially came over to our home to help plan the event. He assisted us from the beginning creating a vision from rentals, seating, bartender, etc. On the day of the event, Stephen arrived early to get a good start for the sweltering hot outdoor covid wedding reception. Guests were greeted with tray passed hors' doeuvres and cold drinks from the bartender. While we were at the church ceremony, they assisted with table setting complete with linen napkins, china, flatware and glassware. The chef was flexible with the menu and the food was delicious! We had a choice of two entrees and all guests with allergies were noted as to where they would be sitting so there was no confusion. The servers were accommodating at every level. They even cut our cake and served drinks at the tables. Stephen assured me that we would be taken care of and Melrose did just that. Stephen is a great asset...very professional, eases any trepidation, and is very attentive in communication. He is quick to respond and has great taste! We were completely spoiled. My husband and I hired Melrose catering for our wedding October 12, 2018. We chose beef teriyaki satay, bruschetta, and spanakopita for appetizers and Chicken Picatta with a lemon herb sauce and Filet Mignon with a port wine reduction for the main course. The food was an absolute hit! Everyone kept talking about how amazing the food tasted. People didn't leave anything left on their plates!!! The service was great as well! There was just one little hiccup, where a waiter forgot to hand out food to 2 tables. Once that was addressed, the food was delivered in minutes. We hired 2 bar tenders through them, and everyone loved them! They had great people skills and delivered alcoholic beverages in a quick and professional manner. We also booked all our rentals through them, including lighting. Everything was displayed perfectly in both our cocktail hour and reception locations. Unfortunately, in rained 2 hours into our reception and we had to relocate quickly. I wish more seating was moved indoors, including costly lounge furniture we rented, but I understand with an unexpected storm, everything does not go as planned. Hiring Melrose Catering to cater our wedding was one of the easiest decisions we made in the whole planning process. They became the caterer of choice for my family after they catered my sister's wedding in September 2009 and blew everyone away with their delicious and unique food . We hired them for a couple of birthday dinner parties after that and, seriously, every bite of food I've tasted from them has been absolutely off the hook. I especially appreciate how they can make dishes that are vegetarian/vegan convertible - we are a family with meat eaters and vegans and everything in between, and every one of us is happy after a Melrose dinner. Worst company ever!!!! Zero compassion or understanding! Avoid them at all cost. .... Long story short ... I was notified by my original venue that they encountered issues with venue and that I would need to find a new venue. This happened about 3wks before my wedding! I notified Melrose Catering via email and phone call to see if they could help! I was hoping they would consider refunding me my deposit or at least a partial refund to help offset the extra charges I was going to incur, but this favor fell on deaf ears! As they couldn't even return my calls or emails. We ended up booking with the University Club of Pasadena which has their own in house catering. I would understand if I cancelled for no reason or decided to use a different catering company/vendor. I had no choice as I had about 3weeks to figure things out and book a new venue. I even asked to talk to the owner and my emails and phone calls went unanswered and unreturned. I understand they are business but they had two other events the same day! It was not like they weren't going to make money. My venue even offered them future jobs doubling what I was going to spend with Melrose. My original venue was willing to put it in writing. Paula seemed so unconcerned. So disappointed in her!!! She sells you and tells you it's a family run business and they are there to help! So disappointed. Do not use them. Avoid Melrose. I worked with Laura from Melrose Catering for our wedding and had a great experience! Guests praised the food and though I didn't get to eat much, the sampling I had was delicious. We expected we wouldn't get to eat that day, so I'm glad we had the tasting! Laura was also kind enough to pack appetizers for us to take home, so we got to dine on the goodies for a few days after the wedding. We wanted an all-appetizer event, with a relaxed and informal atmosphere, where guests could graze on a variety of nibbles throughout the night. Laura worked with us to create the event we wanted, instead of pushing us toward a standard buffet or formal sit-down set-up. The appetizer stations were a big hit and people enjoyed being able to get whatever they wanted, whenever they wanted. It really added to the fun vibe of the day, and I'm so happy we did it. Laura, the owner, was professional and dilligent. She sensed we were in a time crunch and really took care of us. We ended up using her company not only for the food, but the equipment rentals as well. Laura new we werent working with the largest budget and was more than willing to work with us when it came to purchasing our own alchohol and plates, napkins, etc to save cost. I highly recommend Melrose Catering for the food, service and professionalism. Laura worked with me as the caterer and day-of coordinator. I my opinion she communicate well, was very accommodating, patient and friendly. Her staff was very pleasant, helpful and hardworking. As the main attraction with my groom it felt like complete chaos at the time but EVERYTHING that was important to me happened as I wanted it to and some things turned out even better than I had planned. Highlights: Laura as a coordinator helped me organize the ceremony line up, cued the wedding party on the day-of, suggested a flow of reception activities and worked very hard because I know I gave her a lot to do. Laura responded quickly to email and phone calls. She was patient and spent three hours with my fiancé and I during the food tasting, of which the tasting took less than an hour and she offered simple solutions to our concerns like, "Will we get to eat anything at the wedding?" She accommodated us by meeting up on the day before Christmas Eve for the tasting. The tasting was very important, we planned our wedding long distance and Laura really was extremely helpful. The chef made amazing beef fajitas and even better vegan fajitas with my favorite veggies, sans tofu. He made the rice vegan, used soy cheese in the beans which I couldn't believe was soy, &he made an awesome vegan Caesar dressing. It was a good experience and a good price for the tasty food we got. Paul handled my thirsty guests very well and made the bar look great. Lisa (staff) was very engaging and earlier went out of her way to cut jalapenos, which I had forgotten to do, for the spicy margaritas. The whole staff was pleasant and had to kindly refused attempts from my guests to drink or dance. They moved quickly and efficiently making setup and take-down seamless. Been using Melrose catering for several years now for events of 75 to 150 people. The food is always consistently delicious, fresh and delivered on time. We usually order the variety of sandwiches and they are BIG, fresh, never ever soggy but filled with tomato and lettuce. We also order the pasta salad, fruit salad, cookies and a variety of drinks. They set everything up with table cloths, serving utensils, plates, etc. Then they clean everything up at the end and I don't have to worry about any mess. They make it so easy. Ordering is a snap online; I communicate with Laura via email. It's as simple as it gets but the execution is always superb. read more
