I have been so pleased with the customer service provided by Perry and his team. Technicians are extremely skilled and service was provided much more quickly than I had been quoted. They are friendly, efficient, and trustworthy. I was in the store to buy shears. A specialty pair for trimming seam allowance. While looking at the options, I clearly and without question overheard an employee. She was giving directions to M and L Fabrics to two customers in the classroom/workroom. She added that the store is busy now, because "all the women who shopped at Joann's and couldn't pull their heads out of a paper bag are there". I did shop at Joann's, it was five minutes from home. I also shop at Mood Fabrics, International Silk and Woolens, and Britex. Oh, and the other employee. When a customer is contemplating in front of the shears, maybe ask: do you have a specific need? We have some fabric if you'd like to see how any of these cut. I am not a quilter, and I left without buying because apparently I'm not good enough for her store. read more

Mel's is a family-owned business which I have used for many years. I finally upgraded to a beautiful top-of-the-line sewing machine and the experience was fantastic. Makes such a difference when the staff is knowledgeable; I should say expert, about their products. My transaction was handled efficiently and expediently. The machine itself is AMAZING. I am debating still on how I feel. I brought in a Bernina to be repaired and the man plugged it in and it did nothing. He said the motor is gone and they cannot fix it. I belong to a Bernina group and they are adamant that it can be and the machine is still very desirable. I shall check other repair shops and see what I come up with I can say I am tired of repair shops that cannot repair and try to upsell. read more

I have not been here for years. I use to come here for Bernina and Babylock machine repairs but it has been at least 20 years. So I brought a serger in for blade replacements. I walked in and the lady behind the counter looks up and asks me what she can do. I tell her and she says that the repair guy is out on vacation for two weeks and it would be another 1-2 weeks for the repair. I was disappointed. I was also surprised because she never came out from behind the counter, focused on whatever she was doing there. Given the limited market for sewing stuff I would have thought she could at least come out from behind the counter to see what else she could show me or sell me. Nope. I have always found this shop to be less service oriented that others - and I guess in 20 years that hasn't changed. This shop sells all sorts of sewing machines (Bernina's mostly) and has a large variety of embroidery threads and limited selection of fabric (batiks/cottons). I found another shop that was able to immediately repair the machine for a really great price. I am not sure I'd return to this shop because of the attitude I encountered. No warmth. No excitement to see a customer and certainly no effort to do much for me but tell me that the repair guy is on vacation. read more

I've bought a machine here, taken two classes, and purchased several notions and supplies for my machine. I have also had my machine serviced there. The staff are nice, knowledgeable, and very friendly. The store is well-stocked for what they carry. Although it's a drive from my home, I am willing to go here for the quality of products and service. read more

I was excited to come into this store but very disappointed. Was watched like if I was going to steal something. And was asked what my project was and was talked to like I was stupid. I was ready to spend money on some fabric and materials and wanted to support small businesses. Unfortunately I do not recommend. Please don't come here. read more

I feel exactly like reviewer M.L. who also gave Mel's 1 star. I encountered the same arrogant guy. His name is Kevin and he is THE WORST! He should not be working with the public since he has ZERO interpersonal skills. He answered all my questions with a question and he used such a snarky tone it was unbelievable. I felt like I was going in circles with this guy! He was so full of attitude and put downs towards me. He obviously knows his way around a sewing machine but he should be kept in the back where he can fix the machines by himself. Kevin is not a friendly person and should not be engaging with the public in any way!! read more

After deciding to purchase a new sewing machine, I read reviews for every Bernina dealer within 100 miles of where I live. I wouldn't normally choose a business so far from where I live, but a friend gave Mel's Sewing Center in Anaheim a glowing recommendation so that's where I went and everything she said was true. I ended up buying the machine I was interested in plus some accessories. I like that it's a family business that's been there a long time and I feel good about having a place to take my machines for service and repair if needed. read more

Everything you want in a dealer--great prices and great service on the best machines in the world. I flew in from Hawaii to take Sue Green-Baker's classes on the top-of-line Baby Lock serger. If I'd known how great Mel's was, I'd have bought my machine here and shipped it back (and would have saved a bundle doing that). They offer lots of classes on sewing, serging, quilting, and embroidery machines. Knowledgeable, ethical, helpful staff with a genuine SERVICE attitude.
