I went to Buttonham Palace earlier this month looking for, well, buttons (with Joann's gone I've been working on finding new places for sewing supplies...). Specifically, I needed a certain style of silver metal button for the costume I was working on. This place has buttons in finishes and shapes I had never seen before at any store. Ms. Galia is so helpful and experienced, patiently giving advice to a beginner like me. I brought in my jacket for her to look at and without her I would have walked out of there with buttons too big for the holes! I tried multiple places in LA and Orange County and no luck. I found them and they fixed it with ease and did an incredible job! Huge variety of buttons, vintage clothes & accessories in a quaint place. Quick story: I needed buttons for a coat I am making. I called ahead to make sure they were open for in-person shopping. The nice woman on the phone suggested I bring my coat with me. Once there, she assisted me in finding the perfect buttons for my project. She laid my coat on the table and suggested a set of metal, shank buttons, with a design suitable for a crest. I liked them, but I wanted to browse some more. I looked and looked for other buttons, but I always came back to her first and only suggestion. I was so impressed by her talent. You can tell she had been doing this a long time! The buttons I got were a rare find because none of the major fabric shops (online or otherwise) offered anything close to what I got. Despite the great references, disappointed by the absolute lack of follow up communication and service. To be fair, this place does have a lot of buttons and my initial in-store experience was positive. It was nice supporting a local business. But when I reached out to do additional business (ex: spend more money), the follow up and service was completely ABSENT. Almost a month of non-response. I could have gotten what I needed off of Etsy, Amazon and eBay much quicker (this is w/o counting the other independent shops too). This place also does reweaving under "Knitwear Doctor". This button store is a godsend! My husband is in production and I often help the costume designer . We use Buttonham Palace for all of our costumes. I live in LA and make the special drive out once a month because they have the most unique selections of buttons. In Los Angeles everything is already picked through by costume designers but here I feel like I get the pick of the litter! The woman who owns the store is such a sweet lady who really know everything there is to know about the texture size and style of buttons and clothes. They have vintage , wood, abalone, pearl, copper , button covers and on and on! If they don't have what you are looking for Galia will get from one of her resources and quick!
