I am relatively a new sewist/quilter in South OC. Since Quilt Passions closed, Quilt Bee has become my go to for good quilting fabric. The staff have all been very welcoming and helpful. I have also taken a few classes at QB, which have all been very good. I've taken two classes from Instructor Janet, who is especially encouraging, friendly and knowledgeable. Wonderful quilt shop! They have everything I need, and everyone is always extremely helpful, even other customers! I have been taking quilting classes from Janet Salcido since the shop opened. She is a fabulous, knowledgeable and encouraging teacher. Plus, she gathers a group of quilters around her who become friends and family. My weekly classes at OQB are better than therapy for me. And the shop is amazing. It's under new ownership, so there are exciting new fabrics. Plus the staff and teaching staff have remained. If you sew or quilt , it is worth a visit. One of the last surviving local quilt stores. Easy parking behind the store they have a very nice selection of a variety of fabric, including batiks, some higher end fabrics like Kaffe, Tula pink. A good selection of notions and patterns as well. The ladies that work there are very helpful. In addition, they offer classes and have a very nice workshop area. read more

It's a great place. The fabric quality is superb, and whoever curates the patterns has top notch taste. It's not the kind of place where they stalk you with a smile in a desperate attempt to make a sale, but a really chill place where you can stand around and chat with others who've been in the hobby for many years. Great shop with beautiful fabric, there are so many lovely patterns and original designs in every color imaginable. My favorite are the vintage looking patterns. It's so hard to find things these days that don't look cheep or too modern, especially when looking for floral patterns, so I'm glad I found this shop. I kind of wish they had tassels and things that I could add to my creations, but they cater mostly to quilt making. But if you want classy looking patterns to up your game, this is the shop for you. Orange Quilt Bee - Tarot Card Bag - Arts & Crafts Near Me - Orange, California

Today I phoned ahead to inquire about their pandemic protocols and was told that everyone in the store wears a mask ("of course") and that there are markings on the floor to maintain social distances, classes are underway and "we've had no problems at all." When I arrived about 2:30, the staff at the cutting and purchasing counter were wearing masks and so were the shoppers near the counter. Yes, there were social distancing circles on the floor. But, all the doors to the shop were closed and a large quilting class was underway on one side of the shop. There are no barriers between the classroom and the rest of the shop. I was shocked to find that in the class of 10-12 women, NOT A SINGLE INDIVIDIUAL WAS WEARING A MASK. No. one. The instructor of the class was loudly teaching and many of the students were gathered closely to see what she was explaining. Others were roaming maskless around the classroom (and sometimes into the shop itself), without any concern for keeping away from one another. The classes run for hours in this enclosed space. No doubt, their respirations waft through the entire store. The disregard and lack of consideration for the health and safety of others is upsetting and makes me sad because this situation makes it clear that care for their customers is absent. After calling ahead and being assured of their precautions, I feel I was purposefully mislead and put at risk. The store has a nice selection of quilting cottons and is one of the last remaining quilt shops in this area, but this blatant breach of well-understood health and safety guidelines makes shopping there a risk not worth taking. They have always previously seemed to want to build a shared community of quilters and loyal customers, to be welcoming, witty, and saavy in how they run their shop. Today, on a day when once again, our country has surpassed the record number of COVID cases, concern for and interest in their customers is clearly not the philosophy anymore. Sadly, I won't return. read more

And she is funny and personable and kind. The staff is helpful. The owners take a real interest in the customers and what they need and want. Plus the annual retreat is restorative. And fun!! This place is amazing! I frequent the tattoo shop next door and have been eyeballing this place each time and this past weekend I FINALLY went in. I couldn't believe my eyes, their fabric selection is amazing and it looks like they have classes as well...and if you don't want to do your own quilting, you can have them do it for you! Woo! (alas, I must try to do this on my own.) Browsing the aisles I was so excited about the fabrics they had there. Things that I would normally be ordering online were here! Ahh! I also love that they have pre-cut fat quarters. I love to buy lots of random fabrics and this makes it so easy to go and pick out a few prints. This is my favorite quilt shop in Orange County! I have been in class for 9 years. The fabric selection is wide and varied. The sample quilts are beautifully displayed. One of my favorite things is the classroom space. There is plenty of room for each student to spread out. Janet the teacher takes all the time needed for me to grasp a new skill. While this is a nice quilt shop in the diminishing list of local brick-and-mortar stores, they are on the higher end price-wise and the service is somewhat lacking. Also, it is NOT a good one for monthly clubs (block-of-the-month). I've done many of these and this shop is beyond stingy with cuts of fabric for what you pay. The one I did was missing yardage required and I've had to go in several times to request the missing pieces. Moreover, I wish I would have known this before committing to a monthly club as the price was a bit more than I would have liked, but I loved the quilt so I took the plunge. Needless to say, it will be my last (and first) monthly club with the Orange Quilt Bee. Also, i know they run various events for table-time and sewing get-togethers, but the sign-up process is so cumbersome and so challenging to even get a spot (i.e. Fuzzy Slipper Night) I have yet to attend. I do like their selection of new fabrics and they have wonderful precuts and fat quarters. It is also very organized and easy to find coordinating pieces for projects you may be working on. I'd just say to be prepared to help yourself and not rely on help from the shop personnel when you go. read more

This place is 2 blocks from the old Leah's Fabric Gallery. I found out about this shop from an article in the OC Register about one of their quilting instructors, Janet. From the article I decided that I would sign myself and my mom up for a class as a gift for her. The cost of the actual class was VERY reasonable and they give you a list of supplies you will need to get before the class starts. If you buy your supplies from this shop it will be on the expensive side if you're used to buying from Joann, but the perk is that you have access to their helpful staff who will walk you through any selection (from pattern to fabric) and you won't have to pre-wash/iron your fabric before hand. Once we started the class I found Janet warm, friendly, and full of tips and tricks in addition to general quilting knowledge. This place is equip with 2 huge cutting tables that can also be used to put the finished quilt top together with the batting and backing. If you need to borrow a sewing machine because you don't have one or yours doesn't stipple or some other function they have some you can borrow; we're talking nice, new and top of the line and it seemed like all the employees knew how they worked. The other women in the class were friendly as well and really gave you the feeling of being a large extended family. The staff are all knowledgeable quilters that have many years of experience under their belts. If you need help picking the right pattern or fabric colors they are right there to help. There is a wide range of books, patterns, fabrics, and supplies for you to browse and if you find yourself returning be sure to get one of their Stinger Cards which is a frequent buyer card. I have also taken a hand applique class with Kathy and, like Janet, she is warm, friendly, knowledgeable, and full of tips and tricks to making applique easy; you should see some of her applique quilts! I am also scheduled to take a Hawaiian quilting class with Janet too; Hawaiian quilting is her favorite and she entered and won an award for one of these quilts at the OC Fair. I'm sure I've left something out, but over all this place is awesome and I highly recommend it to anyone looking to learn quilting or sewing! read more
