The food was phenomenal! I had the curry chicken dish and it was divine. The flavors were on point. I didn't have a drink but the cocktails looked yummy! Be prepared to wait Made brunch reservations for 4 at 11AM. They even called the day before to confirm it. We were promptly seated and were told they didn't have enough menus. Strange because the place wasn't packed but we managed by looking at the menu on our phones. We got drinks and finally the menus, which had a different selection than what was on their site. We were also informed they were out of several items which was surprising because it was early in the day. Then we waited. And waited. And waited Over an hour and a half. No communication until the waitress came over and apologized and offered us a free drink, which we declined. And then we waited some more and finally decided to leave. We had two mediocre drinks and weren't offered any communication or food to hold us over. Not even bread and butter. After we asked for the check, the hostess came over. She apologized and said she would take the food off the bill (like she was doing us a favor) but then still had the audacity to charge us for the two drinks we initially ordered. This was after we were offered a free round previously! As we stood up to leave, the hostess came over and said they were plating our food, did we want to take it to go. We declined but thought it was a little strange to ask. The plan: arrive at 5:30, catch a 6:50 Uber and get on the 7:05 train back to NYC. The reality: arrive at 5:30, don't get served until 6:50, catch the train an hour later. We've been here before and liked it. But after a server fell and lost our food, they did a bad job managing expectations. I think we finally got served 25 minutes after we'd been told it would only be 5 to 7 minutes for them to whip up our meals again. The food was great; the mac & cheese was delicious and rich, my wife enjoyed her salmon, and the kung pao brussels had a great texture and some nice, spicy pepper segments on top. The canned göse was a good rec, very mild. The servers were courteous, though I kinda wish they'd brought us some chips or comped us something when it became clear our food would be so late (though comping became impossible once I asked, around 6:20, if we could pay right then, still hopeful that we could dash at 6:50). And a small part of the delay may have been replating-related; our server told us at 6:49 that they were boxing our stuff because they knew we had to scoot at 6:50, but by that point, our Uber driver had cancelled on us (Uber sent him out for a scheduled pick-up waaaay too early), so we decided to just eat in and catch the later train. This restaurant should be re named Melzingah Grease House. it started at the appetizers. Mac and Cheese took forever to come out and when it did it disappointed. too greasy and the croutons were confusing and added nothing to the dish. Next was the entrees. The skirt steak was supposed to be medium and it wasn't. pools of grease on my plate and the undercooked steak was extremely chewy. the smashed fingerlings were tasty and the asparagus was not bad but the extra grease on the plate ruined them towards the end of my meal. Truly enjoyed my lunch at Melzingah Tap House. We ate outdoors at their patio. Pets are welcome and there were several well behaved pups hanging out under the picnic tables. Loved the large selection of beer and friendly and speedy service. We had Kung Pow Brussels sprouts for an appetizer and they were perfection. Overall, we had a pretty good experience here. Our server made a few mistakes but was very courteous and did his best to make up for them. The truffle fries were great, and the burger was very good. A constructive criticism would be that the ingredients on the menu (like in the whipped feta) should all be listed out for the purpose of protecting guests with allergies!! Not doing so could be a serious liability. I personally have a restricted diet and had to pick the peppers out of the feta in order to eat it. The scallions also were not a pleasant surprise. The restaurant is in a lovely quiet spot, and the interior is industrial warm rustic in the best way. They have a great beer selection and live up to their name. Would recommend! read more

Such a lovely experience at Melzingah! First of all -- their outdoor heated tent is the perfect set up if you are not dining indoors. The tent is large with lots of picnic style tables. There are plenty of heat lamps spread evenly throughout which made the tent nice and toasty. You can make an advance reservation which is always a plus. We stopped in for an early dinner on a Saturday and it wasn't too crowded, but I'd venture to guess that isn't the case during prime dinner hours. Our server was super sweet and attentive and constantly came over to check in. We started off with some drinks. Most cocktails can be made into mocktails which is great! I had a mulled cider which was perfect on a winter evening. The menu is really large. There are a ton of small and shareable plates and lots of entrees with seafoods, meats, chicken, pasta, etc. I was with some friends and we decided to share a few different plates. The beet feta salad was easily the highlight of my meal. An enormous plate topped with so many sweet red and golden beets, lots of feta cheese and fresh citrus. So refreshing and delicious! Amidst all of the decadent options, salads may very well be the move here. The kale salad was also a table favorite - tossed in a sweet balsamic and loaded with sweet nuts and pears. I also loved the soft pretzels which came with a tangy queso dip. Brussels were another favorite, perfectly crispy and tossed in a sweet and tangy sauce. My friends and I agreed that the mushroom flatbread and mac and cheese were just okay. The flatbread had a bit of a mushy consistency and the mac wasn't super flavorful. Overall, it. was still a wonderful meal and it was nice to try a variety of plates. I'm sure you couldn't go wrong with any entree - they all sounded delish. We waited 45 minutes + for our food and all we heard when I asked about my order was "food is not your normal diner food, other tables got theirs because they ordered salads. Your food is worth the wait". After all, we received a mediocore burger and a dry chicken and dumplings. We tried to come on a Saturday night and the wait time without reservations was 2 hours so we came back for Sunday lunch and we were able to snag a table but barely! We both got the burgers, which were amazing- definitely one of the best burgers I've had. They also had this great basil aioli sauce which I asked for on the side for the fries- so so good! Came here around 2pm this past Saturday (November 19th). The food and waitresses were great, but the Hostess ruined our experience by being incredibly rude out of nowhere. We were a large group of 9, which we understood it would be hard to accommodate for. Immediately, she asks us condescendingly "did you make a reservation? No? Then do you want to sit outside with your group?" Are you serious? It was freezing cold outside (35 degrees F). We tried to make things easier by suggesting to split our party into two tables, but she made it sound very difficult to do. After more hesitation, she agrees to sit us as a single party, but before walking us to our table, she comments condescendingly that 1) there would be a service charge for our large group, 2) they didn't take split payments, 3) our food would come out slow because we were a large party "and her kitchen staff was not prepared". Thanks, we didn't ask since we're already familiar with tipping culture. Her 3rd comment makes it sound like your restaurant is not equipped to handle any amount of traffic. After a good 30 minutes the restaurant was basically half empty. I commend the wait staff for their professionalism and hospitality, as well as the kitchen staff for whipping up some great food, but one bad apple does spoil the bunch in this case. I can't recommend anyone to your restaurant at risk of having to deal with this hostess. read more

Cool bar with awesome beer and terrific service in the old "Hop" space. Was here with my beer club on a Beacon beer excursion and this was our second stop. The guy behind the bar immediately made us feel welcome and arranged bar stools for us to sit together. He also cheerfully poured numerous flights of beers for the members (I myself had a pint) and got great support from his co-workers. The beers were interesting and the vibe was great. I didn't eat anything but I saw the good looking waitstaff delivering food to tables and it looked and smelled great (esp the brussels sprouts). Don't be like me circling around expecting a huge sign that will tell us it's Melzingah Tap House but good to know they have a parking lot and a nice tented outdoor space for dining. I'm willing to overlook a few missteps over the course of an evening if the overall impression was good... which it was for me, though some "rounding up" here is involved. I enjoyed the food and drink and atmosphere here, though it felt like we waited way too long to receive our food, and folks had a few (minor) comments on portions of it. Your menu is actually a set of 3 pages of card stock, one for food, one for beer, one for cocktails and wine. It appears to be in flux; some of the beers are already crossed off, and by the time we arrived last night, one of the nightly specials was already off the menu (it was soft shell crab, and I'm told it was delicious and popular). The beer list is varied, and they'll let you sample. You have options for 10oz. and 16oz. glasses. The cocktails are also quite interesting and delicious. After drinks we ordered meals and a charcuterie plate/board. This seemed to take way too long to be delivered, and we were finally asked if we wanted it first or with our meals, and we chose the latter. But it was worth it. You have multiple options for the cheese and/or charcuterie, and we chose 3 of the 5 meats. These came with ramekins of olives and pickled vegetables, 4 varieties of spreads including a mustard and a walnut pesto, and a large bowl of toasted bread. Everything was delicious, and you might be able to make a meal out of it. In my opinion, this is a great deal. Among our meals were a couple of plates of chicken and dumplings, which everyone loved. I ordered a Beacon Burger, which comes out on a large, slightly toasted bun, accompanied by condiments and whipped feta. I ordered it medium and it probably came out medium-well, as I couldn't find any pink in the center. The fries accompanying it were way way way too salty, even beyond my "Can we get you another beer?" category. I couldn't finish them because of the saltiness. They have two dessert options, jasmine rice pudding and deep fried apple pie, the later of which was ordered at our table. These are more like apple pie won-tons; the overall impression that I gathered was that they weren't as impressive as they sounded, and they were dusted with a little too much nutmeg. But overall, it was an enjoyable experience. I hope our small speed bumps were the exception rather than the rule here, because this place has a lot of potential to be very popular. read more

I was told this new spot was the talk of the town and since I'm nothing if not a cutting edge socialite,* I had to check it out immediately. People are clearly loving the place so far (every bar seat full on a Friday evening, and a short wait for a table), and with good reason. Reasons, really. Here are three for you: 1. The cocktails are excellent (the Beacon Blossom is dope, and comes with a pretty flower that this manly man liked a lot), and the beer list is stellar. I haven't seen Maine's Lunch IPA anywhere in a while, and it's fantastic if you've never tried it. 2. The food is well done, and varied enough in flavors and sizes that just about anyone can find something to eat. The mac and cheese was gooey and just what you want in mac and cheese, and the brussels sprouts salad hit the spot as well. I personally prefer the shrimp scampi to the mussels with sausage, but both are solid dishes that are pretty similar (seafood in a nice sauce, with toast to dip). There's also a variety of things I didn't get to try from burgers to impossible burgers to sausage dogs to trout to cheese/charcuterie plates that looked so gorgeous at the table next to us that I almost stole things, but was reprimanded by my wife before I could. I absolutely would've gotten away with it. 3. The service is extremely attentive; everyone from the hostess to the bartenders to the servers to the owner came by to check on us at various points in the meal. They clearly care if their customers are having a good time, and that's always a good thing. Despite not having a reservation, we felt very welcome thanks to the staff... ...but not necessarily the rest of the clientele. There was a man in a "Locals Only" shirt that had me shook, but I don't think he noticed that I didn't live in town because my constant vigilance turned out to be unnecessary as he never tried to fight me. And since they've only been open a couple weeks, it was a little odd that an older man came by and insisted we were sitting in his table. Sure, the hostess sat us there, but she's probably not in charge, it's probably the drunk dude on the side of the bar who makes those calls. My mistake, friend. If I could offer any advice, it would be to (1) talk to the hostess next time if you plan to sit down and (2) brush your teeth. He was nice enough to recommend the poutine and the hanger steak [to my vegan friend] though, so I'll have to come back for those. If that really was his table, he's probably eaten here enough to know what's good. _____________ *This is a lie. We also noticed other people complained about food and wait as well. it didn't seem like anyone working there cared about it. They also included 20% service charge which not included on the menu or anywhere on the website. There was no indication and reason to have such high service fee. Overall, poor management, lack of food quality, and dinning experience was turned off. Never again! Wasted about $160 and walked out of this place really pissed off. As a regular for the past few years, i would not come back to melzingah tap. Extremely disappointed with our most recent experience here. It took over an hour and a half for 3 well done burgers, that came ice cold and basically raw. They dont cover the food while bringing it from the inside of the restaurant to the outdoor tent, in 30degree weather the walk from the restaurant to the tent makes the food ice cold. Besides the food taking so long and it not even warm, the staff was pretty rude making us feel like a burden. We attempted to order the skirt steak, which they were out of inventory.
