I tried Memorial Barbershop one day when my regular barber, at another shop closeby, was unable to seat me. I was very impressed. The owner runs a tight ship there, the place is spotless, there is plenty of room around the chairs and especially between them so that I have never felt crowded or cramped. The owner cut my hair that day and I was very happy with her results. She was attentive and keen to please. She offered all of the same amenities to which I was accustomed: the "Gentleman's Cut," a well prepared neck shave, excellent trimming in all the right tough spots. The price was basically the same. I am very loyal to my regular barber, but I also knew right then that I had found my backup, if ever necessary again. The world is a funny place: lo and behold not four weeks later my regular barber left the shop where she had been and joined the Memorial Barbershop team and I could not have not have been happier. Now she is among three other barbers and I am very happy to patronize this establishment. Excellent amenities, too: good shampoos, colognes, etc. And excellent establishment and very nice people. read more

Just walked over to the shop and was directed to Ken's chair. My normal barber that I've been going to is no longer at Fountainview Barbershop so I decided to give Memorial a try. This was the worst haircut I've ever had. I left before they could do any more damage. The ceilings have roof leakage damage that's visible and looks as if mold is growing. The owner walked in to cut my hair reeking of cigarettes. She didn't apologize for the obvious crooked line she placed in my hair at such a high line that it is probably not fixable. She tried to make excuses but the hair cut was didn't provide an acceptable avenue for that to work. The straight blade used on my partners neck to clean up stray hair, was not very sharp and required multiple scrapping passes to get the hair. The incompetence displayed by the owner and multiple staff proved to me that I needed to post a review of the shop. To try and protect others from having a similar awful experience! I had the worst haircut of my life and on top of that it costed me $20. The girl who cut my hair had no idea of what she was doing, I could have done better myself with a knife and no mirror. The only good thing about this place is the place itself but if you want a decent haircut don't come here. read more

My regular barber (for nearly 40 years) recently had surgery, so I popped into this place for an overdue haircut, explaining to Darkshe, the non-owner female barber what I wanted. (There are four barbers available...average age is ...well, let's just say they were calling me "Sonny", and I've been on Social Security for several years.) Thirty minutes later, I walked out of the shop with one of the best haircuts I've had in a long time. Darkshe did exactly what I asked, and considering that she'd never cut my hair previously, I think she did a great job--even my wife agreed. She trimmed my ears and my eyebrows, as well (a necessity for senior citizens!). The shop brings back some nostalgic memories--lots of haircare and facial products I haven't seen in 50+ years, such as shaving brushes and mugs, Tiger Balm, and so on. About the only thing missing is the barber pole outside the store (it's lying on a shelf inside the store). What would make this rating a 5? Turn off the disco music, and turn the sound on for the news on TV. But the shop owner, another woman, probably in her late 50's, enjoys dancing to the disco music, so I doubt that will happen... read more

The best place for a shave in Houston. They have a couple older gentlemen there that have doing doing beard trims and straight razor shaves for a long, long time. I would suggest one of them for all your facial hair needs. I found this place thanks to Yelp, and I'm not going anywhere else for my trimmings. I've only received one haircut there, and it was alright. The inside is really nice and the outside face of the shop has changed dramatically since that picture was taken. It's a nice place in a nice little neighborhood and the people that work there are fun to talk to. read more

One of the worst experiences ever. Took my son in for a hair cut. It was not a good haircut. The woman cutting his hair cut his hair crooked and reeked of cigarettes. She asked me if I liked the haircut. When I told her I didn't like it, she got extremely rude and agitated and told me to cut his hair myself. In Houston for a visit and need a straight razor shave and beard trim. Being Monday my search did not turn up any place that was open. Went to Ottos for a burger and the Memorial Barbershop was open and offered razor shaves. Could not have been happier with the attention to detail and care that the barber took. Great value for a great shave. What made it even better was the barber from the next chair with 30 years experience came over reviewed the job, and did a few little touch ups. Next time I am back in Houston I will be back for a hot towel straight razor shave. read more

I have been coming here for years and even the old location down on memorial. The staff is friendly and will accommodate you as much as they can. For example, anytime I get a window during my work schedule I call in 30 minutes ahead of time and they usually fit me in somehow. read more

No good for men's haircut. I had one of the women-- not the owner but someone else. She was very rough and used the comb on my head like she was tilling the Earth for farmland. The hot shave was not terrible. For $50, you're better off enjoying a pleasant experience somewhere else. read more

The proprietor and her crew take great pride in their work, and always go the extra mile to make sure I leave with a good haircut. It is insanely hot here in Houston! My job at night doesn't seem to be getting any cooler either. So I decided that I needed to chop off my hair which hopefully served as part of the reason and would make the heat a little more bearable. I noticed right next door to my apartments was a barbershop. Seeing as my hair place was now 700 miles away I decided to give it a go. It is your typical lack of decor hair establishment. Three chairs for waiting on your turn. crappy old music playing on the radio. Outdated pictures of different hairstyles on the wall that I haven't seen since my Flock Of Seagulls days. They even had the old white haired barber who looks like he's been around awhile and can entertain you with a few stories to tell. I ended up getting the other lady hairstylist who happened to be there. Ill have to say it is one of the better hair cuts I've had from an establishment that wasn't my usual. It is probably only 3 dollars more for a haircut than at Pro-cuts or Sports clips. I was very satisfied with my cut. I was there for about 30 minutes, only because I had a ton of hair that needed to be taken off. The warm shaving cream and the straight razor trim was nice too. The only reason I gave it 4 stars was because my stylist had ZERO personality! Ive seen more personality on a coat rack. I mean I like to talk a little, not a lot to the person cutting my hair. Maybe she was just having a bad day. A really bad day. Anyways, I would definitely go back there for a haircut.
