I always shop here. Today I needed a small fold out step stool. My husbands needs to get into my Jeep today for a hip replacement surgery scheduled. I asked where can I find a stool. I was told in the very back of the store. I asked the lady working that department since I could not find it. She was far enough away that she could have walked over and shown me the first time. I go back and still don't see it. Again back to the unfriendly lady who is exasperated that I am just too stupid to find it in my own. She walks back as slow as she can and shows me nothing that I have described to her. The closest she has is a big plastic stool that is more of a side table in size. I have just wasted 20 minutes in this store. -3 and running to get out if the store to get to Home Depo then get my husband and then go to the hospital. I like the Menards in crystal lake over the others. The people are always very helpful and o think they have fair prices and it was a donut today when they had a 15% off sale! I arrived 20 minutes before the close and was having a hard time finding where some hardware was. The associate asked me if I needed help and helped me find 4 things I needed within 2 minutes. She was awesome in the hardware department. So nice as I was stressing we were not going to get everything needed before the store close. I always have had good experiences here. They have great selection of lumber and milk work as well as a side note. Needless to say... I highly Recommend this menards! Great service from knowledgeable team members. Pretty much you can find everything here. Has a moving sidewalk for the second floor. Very clean and organized I think they said this is the largest Menard around a million square feet. One think wish there were more help. You can wander in this store for hours. read more

Every time I go to Menards the store is messy and there is no one to help you. Today, was no exception. The garden center is the worst. You can never find anything, the plants are mostly dead and today the raspberry, strawberry plants and other plants were placed on the very top shelf in the garden center. This is an excellent place to sell plants, or to just let them rot. Most of the decorative outside items are from past years and you have to dust them off. When you need help to load soil, water softner salt or anything heavy, they are usually thrown into the back of your vehicle. Today I left the store with nothing, which is not unusual, because I hardly shop at the store. Then I remembered that I order online from Walmart and pick-up the next day. No hassle, no throwing the bags in your car, just a nice experience. Next time try it. read more

Menards is having a grand opening and it definitely is not to be missed. Finally, gone are the days of the drab and mundane home improvement centers. This new bi-level home improvement megastore not only has the typical plant and hardware suspects, it boasts a full line of groceries (packaged goods and refrigerated), household cleaning supplies, clothing, kitchen and bath showrooms and much, much more. It is truly a synergy of a hardware store, Super Target, Duluth, and Walmart all bundled together. The grocery and packaged product selections are plentiful and the prices are extremely reasonable, as many of them are substantially cheaper than other mainstream stores. Some items have even deeper discounts as a result of the grand opening, therefore it will be interesting to learn how much the price points may creep once the grand opening euphoria has waned. Stop by and plan to spend time meandering the extensive aisles of both the grocery and hardware sections. Come witness for yourself how Menards has truly fast-tracked to remain a relevant retailer. Also, be sure to visit the 2nd floor which is accessible via a people mover.....yes...similar to those found at the airport. NOTE: The people mover is slightly steep, therefore please take special care with carts, young children and the elderly and make sure to use the hand rail. This mega Menards is hands-down another welcomed addition to the new and evergrowing business pool in Vernon Hills. Not impressed. I've lived in Crystal Lake for 16 years. It seems their service has degraded with rude employees and cheap supplies. Cheap supplies.........Their bathroom furnishings are very poorly made. I.e. cabinet and vanity materials. Rude employees........Lake of knowledge of pretty much anything and discarding the customer by walking away. In addition, telling you to leave store rudely without a mask. They do however, have a descent supply of cleaning material. This store is really 3rd behind Lowes and Home Depot. read more

On the date of 11-22-21 on 1800 Approximately 6:24 pm as my family and I were about to pay. As I had both my juvenile daughters 7 and 4 at skull caps in my hoodie pocket. Casher Parker questions "are those bears in your pockets yours?" As I look in confusion at first I come to realize he is referring to my daughters hats. I feel as due to me being Latino that is why it was questioned. As I informed the manager on duty Madison of the incident she state I'm sure he didn't mean it in any way. My mom's having some home renovations done, so the other day we checked out both Menards and Home Depot to shop for doors and garage doors that will compliment the new look. We weren't thrilled by anything they had, so moved on to the plants (annuals and vegetables). Though the garden area is seemingly organized, selection was limited and many plants were on the sad side. We gave up on the veggies when it was clear all the signage was generic. Who wants to dig through the pots for those little plastic tags? No thanks! The Home Depot labels their plants very well, so flowers and veggies were procured there. We ended up purchasing a(n, IMO, waaaaay overpriced) fire pit and a really sturdy/heavy/fairly priced 5 piece patio set. Chris helped us by not only checking their inventory, but another store's as well (if we got the set at this Menard's, we'd have to take 3 of the floor model chairs). He called the other store twice and was just really helpful and curteous. At checkout, we were also offered help out to our car - it was nice to have another set of hands help lift the fire pit in! I WISH they had more floor models of the boxed items: the fire pit dimensions were difficult to picture and decide on without seeing them. Made to feel like a criminal when trying to return two special order boards from the Long Grove Menards to the new Vernon Hills store. Before trying to return, confirmed twice with Long Grove location that special orders could be returned to any Menards location. Vernon Hills front desk employee, Sandra,(said she was a Manager) told me they don't take returns of special orders from other stores, in a very unpleasant manner. I called the manager from Long Grove to talk with her but she walked away and told me she called the manager, Brian. He too was very unwilling to help me and was rude, telling me they didn't have to take such returns. He unwillingly agreed to give me a store credit but then it took four people to figure out how to generate such a receipt. Lousy customer service!! read more

So last weekend me and my husband went in to buy paint for the living room. Sounds straight forward, but wait the guy in the paint department was such a obnoxious git, we just left. First I asked for a sample of high gloss in blue, he asked what I was using it for, ok I was taken aback by that, but when I told him living room walls, he proceeded to tell me that most people use flat, and ask why I wanted gloss, by this time his attitude was too much, after saying because I want it, he sneered and claimed they don't sell gloss samples, WTF??? I like Menards for picking up fixtures, and other DIY needs, but I will never buy paint there. Unless you want some random guy telling you what to put on your walls in your house, my advice go to Home Depot, the transaction went the way it should, I ask for what I want, you give it to me, and I give you money. read more

Never Again. beware of the twilight zone if you go here for a propane exchange. I went to Menards this afternoon, because it is the closest store with propane exchange to my house. I figured this would be simple, as I've done this at grocery stores and drugs stores for years. That was too much to expect. For some reason you cannot pay with credit card at the counter. You can pay with cash or debit at the counter only. So, I walk in, ask for propane exchange, they say, if you are paying with credit, go out to the propane refill station, and the employee will help you, including payment, and refill. Ok, so, the associate comes out in the rain, which I thanked him for. Then he inspects my tank, says it is too old, and we'll have to exchange it for a new one. Fine, so he tells me I have to go back into the store to do this. I go in, and wait in line, the employee comes in separately, and leaves separately, while I am still waiting in line. That was my 1st incling that something was amiss. Eventually I get to the front of the line, and the customer service employee said that because I am paying with a credit card, I have to pay at the refill station. WTF!!!! this makes no sense. Why would the POS require additional customer inconvenience???? I asked for my tank back, drove the 2 miles down to CVS, paid $2.50 more, and was in and out in 5 minutes. Never again Menards. I wish I could give this store 0 stars. I have shopped at Menard's for years - especially for Holiday items. But thanks to Al - the store manager at this store - I'll never shop another Menard's again. Al will remember me - I'm the girl who tried to return a 3-piece nativity set, new, still in the box and with the receipt. I simply didn't have enough space on my lawn to put it once I got it home. Well, apparently Menard's has a store policy that states you must return any Christmas/Holiday items within 14 days of purchase - no matter if it's before Christmas or not - or you get the clearance price for the item. Even if you have a receipt. After arguing with the Customer Service girl - who for one, barely spoke English and kept telling everyone who I had to deal with at the Service Desk that I was "OVER my 14 days", she had to call Al downstairs on the two-way radio. He apparently had better things to do that Saturday rather than deal with a customer as he said over the two-way radio "what do they want?" After waiting 10 minutes he finally saunters over to the service desk and recites the policy and then proceeds to tell me that they cannot take Christmas items back because they won't sell on his sales floor after the holidays. Well, Al was in for a shock: #1) I've been a Store Manager at several big box stores. #2) I work a Corporate Retail job, so I know how inventory works #3) Because I've shopped at Menards so often, I know that they do have carry-over inventory from one year to another because I see the same stuff there year-after-year & you can tell it's old from the packaging. Well after arguing with Al he wouldn't take the nativity back because of "his policy". His "hands were tied and there was nothing he could do about it." I took my nativity set back and told them that I would rather donate it than get clearance price for it since I didn't open the box & had a receipt. So to Menard's Corporate & Al I say this: You may not care that another customer is complaining about your store, but when you stores are closing and you're losing business, (and Al you'll be collecting unemployment), think about the customers like me. The customers who would spend at least $300 in your store every 3 months. But thanks to one store manager who decided to be a dick instead of honoring a customer return with style and class you'll never see my face or my cash ever again. Good job Menard's! read more

Beware the Menards Ripoff Return Policy If you do not have your receipt they will issue you a check for only 70% of the value of the item. I returned the next day with the receipt to get my 30% owed to me. I was told you were too late you have to bring the receipt in the same day which I was not told the first time. I "gave" Menards much business as an Electrical Contractor. Not any more. You can't just ripoff your loyal, regular customers and expect them to return. read more

She walked with me from one end of the store to the other helping me pick out everything from a new bathtub, tiles, vanity cabinet, lighting, down to the smallest detail for my bathroom remodeling. Over all the store is fine. But with Menard's you get what you pay for. Some of it is just junk. Case in point, I recently bought 7 "eazy cap" post caps, 1128940, stamped steel, "copper plated", $3.99 each. In less than 3 weeks they were rusting. Took them back. The good thing is if you buy on a cc or dc they have a machine you can get a copy of the receipt from. To finish the story, for $2 more I got 1128929, a die cast aluminum "copper plated" cap. Seven words: Linda in the Plumbing Department is awesome. She was the reason my purchase was such an easy experience. I came into Menards with an extremely confused look (I'm assuming), and Linda quickly approached me and asked if I needed some help. Normally, I would say no because I like to figure things out myself, but in this instance, I was more than happy to accept some assistance! My mom's house experienced some flooding, which resulted in one of the bathrooms being completely gutted down to the studs. I was tasked to find replacement parts for the bathroom. Right, like I know what I'm doing! So this is where Linda came into play! I told her the story and she quickly went into action helping me color match vanities, vanity tops, a toilet, and of course all of the hardware that goes along with these types of things! I'm pretty sure I went back to see Linda about four times to change things, etc., and she was more than happy to help me every time. She even alerted me when things were going on sale so I could get a better deal on some of the items I bought! People like her are an extremely rare breed. Normally when I go into Menards, I rarely get acknowledged, and if I have a question on the location of an item, all I get is a finger point to a section of the store. Thanks, but that's not helpful. Menards products are fine, but as a company they have horrible customer service. Beware.

The staff have always been friendly and helpful, but I cannot trust their product. I purchased an inexpensive headset for my PC from them. The packaging was removed, as were all the audio adapters it claimed to have. When I came back to exchange it, I discovered that all of the boxes were ripped open or the anti-theft seals cut, and adapters pulled from all of those headsets. I went in for some cabinet paint, while my husband was getting rollers for paint, I was standing in line at the paint section... an older gentleman that works in that department, (well I wouldn't say he was a gentleman) he said "can I help you" and I told him I needed cabinet paint in this shade, and he looked at me as if I was dumb, and asked " are you with anyone," while laughing...rude. I have my shopping list of things that I always get from Menards. There are select around the home items that always seem to be cheepest here. Dog chews, Jack's Link Beef Jerkey, Candy/nuts are some of the grocery-like items that are always super cheap. The employees are very nice and helpful. Save big money at Menards. If you don't know that song, you're not from the midwest. The best thing that Menards offers in my opinion, is the incredibly wide selection of lighting options. They have in-store rebates that help save some money while working on those DIY projects. My only beef, is they do not offer a military veterans discount. I have given this store a few opportunities but it just comes down to the lousy customer service. For about a month I have been going back and forth to Menards at the paint department and all times I see Trevor, and other employees huddled around a computer laughing and talking among themselves when customers are clearly in view. Not once did they ask if I needed help or bothered to check up on me. What a train wreck. I ordered a few doors and needed assistance putting it on top of my car. The guy in the back, Jacob, was lousy too. His attitude was horrible and when asked a question he responded "it's not my door, I don't care". Thanks. It's no wonder you work at Menards. Sad this store gets its review based on employees who do not take pride in customer service. I know a few people in need of a job and would take yours in a heart beat. Have repeatedly had good experiences shopping at this location. Joe the manager in the paint department is extremely helpful. On a couple of visits now he has went above and beyond to assist us in choosing varnish for our fence and deck. Everyone asks if you need help and is friendly. This location is very well managed. Staff even in the flower and garden dept. today went out of their way to find answers to my questions. I will be back to this location. Highly recommend. read more

very unhappy with the level of service at this Menards. Bought new kitchen cabinets here and it proved to be a big mistake. I am a homeowner not a kitchen designer - that's the expertise I was looking for to help me place my order correctly. The design of the new kitchen was the same layout as the old kitchen - just needed new cabinets, not a hard design. When items such as a back panel for under the bar area are left off the design, I would say the designer was remiss not the homeowner. But the response I received was "well, you signed off on it..." OK store for beef jerky or cat litter...but purchases that require some intuitive thinking on their part -such as attention to detail and follow-up...go elsewhere. read more

Got in the 6 items or less lane only to find someone in front of me with about 26 items. Asked the checkout girl why she didn't ask them which 6 items they wanted to buy. She told me that they are told not to get confrontational with customers. I talked to the manager named Jeff and he confirmed this policy. I asked him why they even have the 6 items of less lane if they are not going to enforce their own rules. He said he understood my frustration. So, if I understand him right, its ok to irritate me and the 5 customers behind me , but not to confront the person NOT following the rules and irritate them. How ridiculous is this ? Tell your employees to confront those NOT following the rules irritate them, then stand behind your employees when they do. After all, they ARE your rules and they are just enforcing them !
