Beware of Menards rebates and other scams. Menards rebates aren't really rebates. When you waste a stamp to mail in for one of their rebates, they send you a gift voucher to be used for future purchases. It isn't even a gift card. Their return policy is pretty sketchy too. There are some things they won't let you return, but they won't tell you until you want to return it and I'm not referring to the story below, that's another ball of wax. Make sure you remember to grab and keep EVERY RECEIPT even for the smallest items. I was painting a room and renovating my garage and buying a lot supplies. On an impulse I purchased a pair of winter gloves only they were selling for $3. I tried out the gloves (it was winter) and they were freezing. I misplaced the receipt or didn't even get one because their receipts don't appear at the point of purchase but comes out of a box at the end of the lanes. This may be one of their tricks to make you forget the receipts so beware. So a week later I drove the miles and miles back to Menards to return the gloves and buy something else. The gloves were STILL being sold for $3 but they would not return them for $3 and instead gave me a gift voucher for $2 because I never got the receipt. It was only a dollar but it put a bad taste in my mouth enough that I returned every single item I bought for the garage. I ended up getting the supplies cheaper online so except for the gas spent it was a win. Lowes and Home Depot would never do this. Their return policies are awesome. SHAME SHAME SHAME ON YOU MENARDS! The Attorney General of the State of Michigan cited Menards today for price gouging in the recent Conoravirus thing. And it's not just one store. They have doubled and in some cases tripled the prices on cleaning supplies including Lysol, Clorox, and masks to name a few items. Complaints have come in from customers that shopped there from across the state. Save big money at Menards my ass. Any corporation that would on purpose choose to gouge people in a time of crisis - the very people that keep them in business the rest of the time, deserves to go out of business. And the managers and CEOS and whoever decided this was "a good idea to gouge people", well, they need to be in jail. Where is their compassion for humankind? Never mind they don't have any. People, please stop supporting these EVIL vultures. Go to Lowes or Home Depot, or even Ace Hardware and shop. Show them with your wallet that we will not tolerate that type of "Corporate behavior". In addition to being a terrible place to shop, Menards is very aggressively anti-worker. Which may explain why it's such a, you know, miserable place to shop. Proof that Menards does not care about workers is clear in this excerpt from the contract their managers are required to sign: "The Manager's income shall be automatically reduced by sixty percent (60%) of what it would have been if a union of any type is recognized within your particular operation during the term of this Agreement. If a union wins an election during this time, your income will automatically be reduced by sixty percent (60%)." So if workers make ANY move to improve their lot, their manager has a very personal incentive to crush that initiative. And statistics indicate that more than a third of workers who express interest in creating or joining a union lose their jobs. Clearly a hostile work environment. IMO, not just union members but *anyone* who supports workers rights should completely boycott Menards and Walmart and any other company that is anti-union. read more

We've been to three Menards stores in the Tri-County area and found the same culture at all three. They seem to have more products than Home Depot and Lowe's, but heaven help you if you have a problem or an issue with their product or purchase. If you should need customer service at Menards - it's an oxymoron. In the course of fitting out our new home we have spent thousands of dollars at Menards - the value of which seems to be lost on them. Menards has what they call a"Front end manager "which in our experience, three times, at different Menards stores, has been a young, apparently an unexperienced individual who Has only memorized Menards outlandish policies. If you are not happy with the words coming from the front end manager - tough. Anyone higher up appears to be well shielded from the public. Beware before you make any substantial purchase. read more
