Recently came here since I was in the Oswego area and I was trying to my yearly yard projects done for spring. Parking was easy and plentiful. Though I had a longer walk than usual since the outdoor section entrance was closed. I was able to casually find my items without any issues. Thankfully the Menards store layout was familiar to other locations I've been too. Great to go for the rebate specials. Solid reccomendation for all your home goods and various finds! read more

Still one of the best stores for household and home improvement items. Regularly less expensive than Home Depot. My only complaint is that they don't always carry name brands. This Menards is well stocked and carries a wide variety of items besides home improvement stuff. Throughout the year, they offer 11% rebate on your purchase. We shop here often enough to take advantage of that. I can spend hours looking at stuff here and not feel like I overstayed my welcome. Save big money at Menards right!? Well, I've been coming to this location for the past decade or so and I'm pretty sure every time I have saved money! The staff has always been pretty friendly and I almost always find what I need.! Admittedly I am not a huge fan of the outdoor lumberyard and the difficulty getting wood out of their security area, but it does tend to be cheaper than everyplace else so I digress. I also wish their 11% rebate was just automatic and you didn't have to send some thing in, as I'm pretty sure after around 100 or so purchases I've never actually sent the dang coupon in.... Horrible experience at Menards Montgomery IL. I was third person in line to make a return. Had to wait 20 minutes before I was able to return the product. Customer service person did not ever ask for additional personnel or even apologize for the long wait time. One of the customers ahead of me had to return to their vehicle twice to get required documentation, then the next customer did not have their receipt and could not find their ID. The customer service person had to assist the customer twice at the receipt kiosk, stepping away from the counter. My return transaction took about 30 seconds to complete since I had the receipt. Meanwhile, 7 other customers were in line behind me. There was no acknowledgment or apology for the horrendous wait times. read more

I've spent well over $15,000 here in the past 2 months. I had an issue with the Naperville location giving me the incorrect paint for the crown molding trim on my cabinets. This location is closer and I've never had an issue. I asked them to switch it out and they say I have to pay more for this paint because their Naperville location messed it up. The "general manager" Chris says that all locations are independent and I have to explain to him that Menards is one corporation. Chris does not understand customer service and just lost a loyal customer over $6. Dumbest thing I've ever heard in my life. read more

Terrible attitude from the shift manger, she refused to help clear things up between the cashier and me. She refused to look at the security tapes until I raised my voice. Then she confirmed that the cashier did not scan my item and then refused to help me get an new item to replace it since the cashier didn't scan the item first time and other employee put it away. She refused to scan my item and let me be on my way, she forced me to get in long line at open cashier. Only 3 cashier is open and there's lines going out halfway the store for all three lines. I'm done with this chain. I can no longer subsidize the greed of John Menard. This guy is worth over 8 BIllion dollars and has clearly gotten there by underpaying and mistreating his employees, ignoring environmental and labor laws, and then gouging customers with rebate forms he knows most won't mail in. Enough. The final straw came today when renting a truck to carry some plywood. Notwithstanding the $18.95 price written on their trucks, Menards now charges a mandatory, non-refundable $4.75 fuel surcharge and a refundable $50 deposit on top of the $18.95. $18.95 + $4.75 + tax on both the fuel and rental brings the actual price to $25.20. Other are at $20 with tax. You have my CC, so why the deposit? That's just nonsense. Worse, they illegally charge tax on it. Yes you get it back with the tax, but why bother at all when renting a dirty beat up pickup with 50k miles on it and requiring my insurance card? The fuel surcharge is pure greed. You are only allowed the truck for 75 minutes so using up $4.75 in gas in that time is a real challenge given how local the truck use is likely to be. Since the employees check in/out the truck anyway, how hard is it to monitor fuel? This time the employee walked my around the truck pointing out the countless dings, scratches and cracks that Menards certainly got insurance settlements for, but never fixed. The manager told me this charge started in Dec 2016 after "issues" occurred at other stores. Sure... I will now move all my business to the other 2 big box stores that are literally down the street from Menards. Life's too short to support nonsense and greed. read more

I've been using Menards as my sole home renovation supply dealer and they've never ceased to amaze me with the incompetence. Whether not stocking items I regularly need, or losing large items I've purchased, it is limitless. Occasionally a rare employee will offer his/her services and try to make your experience as good as it can be, but most of the time I've experienced rude staff and the employees want me to make their job as easy as possible when it comes to loading my items or helping me find something. I've been pawned off on other employees multiple times as well as experienced rude behavior. Not impressed. Wish Lowe's or Home Depot was closer. read more

I can't say that this Menard's is much different than the next in terms of stock, but the staff are fantastic! I've been often - too often - this summer, and have had at least one question every trip. I'm always able to find someone to not only help me out, but on most occasions, help me out cheerfully. However, quick help is not typically available at the register. You may wait in line several minutes, and end up picking up the tempting food that they place all-too-well (but label with incorrect prices, so you're left leaving with a $5 package that you didn't need, and was labeled $2). My most recent visit was to purchase items off a bridal registry. Menards for a bridal shower! How cool, right?! WRONG. There are no guides as to where the items are located and no prices, so you're left hunting around reading SKU numbers, while also hunting for prices. Lastly - the cashiers have to scan the bridal registry code for every purchase - which yields a gift receipt for every.damn.item. Including the 10+ screwdrivers you bought...ahh! read more

The one in Plainfield is closer to my house, but this one is on the way home from work.... Pretty similar layout and look to most other Menards stores, and about the same service. read more

Like all other Menards stores, this place is huge. At this specific location, I've purchased paint and plumbing supplies. The wait at the paint counter can be really long, especially on weekends. Bring a shopping cart, some patience, and someone to talk to while you wait in line. There was a really helpful man by the plumbing supplies. He didn't make us feel stupid when we asked a general question about the sizing of some plastic tubing. There's lots of parking, the prices are low compared to competitors, and checkout lines are usually pretty short. read more

I went here recently to look at supplies for a DIY project. The first stop I made was the paint department and there I received amazing customer service! I cannot remember the sales lady's name but she was incredibly helpful and gave me many different suggestions for my project and helped me in other areas of the store as well. She also gave me ideas and tips for my next DIY project and I will definitely go back there again and seek out her help! Random fact, if you like progresso soup Menards sells it for cheaper than Jewel or Target. They don't have the same selection but they have enough variety that it's worth it. I'm a pretty active craftsman/handyman and this store is about 2 miles from my home so I've shopped there on a weekly basis. The layout is similar to other menards locations as is the stock merchandise. It's usually a coin flip for me using this store or the Home Depot down the street. What I really like about menards is the huge lumber and landscaping yard and wide selection of raw materials. That being said, I was in recently and needed some lumber ripped on site to fit into my truck. Very disappointed with the lack of help. I ended up pulling out a circular saw and cutting it myself in the lot. Which is sad considering home depot gladly makes any cuts I've needed. Prices here are comparable to other hardware locations. Top end brands like dewalt, Makita, and Milwaukee aren't found here. I will say the "Tool Shop" generic brand makes really nice quality products. I trust them for auxiliary tools like corner Sanders, wood clams, and back up saws. I'll continue to shop here as a matter of convenience, but much less often than I used to. I definitely won't buy my lumber here again with the services provided. read more

First, I use the Menards in Morris, IL near weekly. Apparently all stores are NOT the same. I am a 20 year experienced carpenter type, built my garage, rehabbed entire home, so I know my way around most needs for sure. However I never installed wrought iron railings on a outdoor landing & stairs. Which my daughter in Montgomery needs. So I watched a video, did my measures & sketch, and went to the Montgomery Menards service counter for help putting my order together. Young kid with zero experience helped me locate the railings, but could not answer a single question. He printed out on-line instructions which was kind. But the details? Nada. He brings the Manager to me. I have my sketches laid out, and questions ready. I ask have you ever installed railings? Manager snips back "NO". I am pointing at my sketch and look up with my question on my lips and he had walked away? Did not ask what I needed? Did not ask what questions I have? He then walks by me at the counter with my jaw open and I call out, "is there anyone here who has experience and can answer my questions?". He responds "NO" and keeps going. Now I expected an experienced guy to actually help me put my order together and not miss any pieces I need. Nothing. I got nothing! So I will go to my usual Menards in Morris, IL and if he does not know something he finds a guy who does. When done, they have my order entered & printed. What a huge difference. For the record I shop in no less than 4 menards locations in the Chicagoland area and have been in probably 3-4 others in the past 60 days and after viewing their store/corporate structure from several different angles I can easily say: I HATE MENARDS!!!! Their store policies are a joke, there is little to ANY consistency between the stores, their computer systems are NOTORIOUSLY incorrect and their employees all have splinters in their butts, evidence of having been SCRAPED off of the bottom of the barrel! I have actually had a menards employee tell me that it was my responsibility to ask for help if I needed it from either of the 2 employees I spent 10 minutes in the same aisle with looking for what I needed(I purposely did NOT ask for help as I was proving the point that their employees don't care no matter what position or location to myself). I have ALWAYS had employees walk back and forth past me in an aisles never ONCE lifting a finger to ask if I needed anything. went to menards and had them load my truck because of my bad back. Got home and everything fell out of the back of the truck. they loaded bricks on top of bags. when we got home and opened the back of the truck everything fell out. they filled out an incident report and handed it to the insurance company when the insurance agent called she was extremely rude, extremely. her name was Nikki and it doesnt surprise me she was rude. why they would hire people to load things that way is beyond me. I have spend over $10.000 at Menards over the last 6 months. Always bring my little dog with me. She's 7lbs, trained and always on a leash. I had never had an issue until I went to this particular location. They asked me to leave because I had my dog with me and didn't care about anything else. Let me just mention that I looked online and there was not a word little dogs are not allowed in the store. Just the opposite. Lowe's and Home Depot allow dogs too. I had order a new kitchen countertop came in 3 boxes the receiving department only gave me 2 boxes. The separated my order in the warehouse. I hired a private truck to the have my countertops pick up and drop off at my home. When I realized that they did not give me all the piece. I went to the store this morning. I spoke to Chris the general manager of the store. Basically he gave me two optiond rent at ruck for 30 or delevery for 80. Humm that is not fixing the situation. So I explain to the GM that if I rent the truck for 30 how do I get it off the truck into my house his response to me was that is your problem. That is not making good customer service skills. He then proceeds to tell me he gave me 2 options neither one of them was good especially when I paid For a private delivery service. Store will not stand behind there products. I bought a gas powered chipper there and it worked for 2 hours. I tried to return it the next day but they would not exchange, refund store credit or anything for me. All I wanted is one that works, chipper was brought back within 24 hours of buying it. The store manager told me to find a good small engine repair shop and would not do anything. I used to love going to Menards and would be in there atleast once a week but they have lost my business. Beware NEVER buy anything gas powered there because even if it does not work out of the box you stuck with it. read more
