Late post: Last month, the toilet at my mom's was draining slow as was the sink and bathtub. Alejandro responded quickly the day I called and snaked out all 3, but then decided to check the clean out pipe to make sure everything was draining properly. He discovered a hole in the original pipe and expressed concern that the pipe from the bathroom might also have a crack. He returned another day after I agreed with him that we needed to get the pipe fixed. Alejandro went into the crawl space under the house and took a video of the cracked/leaking pipe. He then explained to me the work that needed to be done and promised to get it done that afternoon. We let him do his work and he was able to finish in a couple of hours. No show. I gave Mendoza Handyman a choice of doing the job on Thursday, Friday or Saturday. They chose Saturday at 10:00am and I was ok with it. They did not show or call to tell me why they did not show up. It is 1:00pm now. After texting to Valentin I found out he had family emergency and he could not call me back. We scheduled for 10:00 am Sunday. Valentin came on Sunday and did two of the bathrooms. The third bathroom was my fault because I picked the size faucets for that sink. OMG. Five stars is not enough. Reached out to Yelp midweek for some quotes on moving our washer and dryer indoors from the garage. Alejandro responded almost instantaneously and was at our doorstep 15m later to give us a quote! His pricing and communication was transparent and clear. Why would someone who I told that I found them on Yelp not think they'd get a bad review when they don't perform? I contacted Mendoza Handyman on a Saturday and Alejandro and Adolfo came over within an hour to look at my project. Alejandro provided a quote on the spot and we set up for them to come over the following day at noon to do the work. Alejandro did not arrive at noon and called me at 12:30 to tell me that he didn't have the proper tool do my job. He said that he had gone to 2 stores and they didn't have it so he would need to order it. He said that he would contact me when it came in to reschedule my job. I was fine with that as it seemed reasonable. However, a week and a half went by with no contact from Alejandro. I texted him to ask about status and he didn't respond. I also asked him to let me know if he was still interested in the work- no response. I finally texted again and said that he could've let me know if he wasn't interested instead of 'ghosting' me so that I could move on- again, no response. My advice would be to look elsewhere to save yourself the frustration of waiting only to be let down with no response/action. I am now several weeks delayed in getting someone else. I had a leak in my crawl space from one of the bathrooms and it was fixed by Mendoza. I asked for a quote and they came out to give a free estimate. Other places are trying to charge $80+ for an estimate. There was only one review but took a chance because he came out same day and provided the estimate for free. So really if I didn't like him or the price I could say no without any obligations. Followed proper covid protocol which was great and went straight to the issue. He had his suit for the crawl space but also put a blanket outside so he wouldn't dirty the room. He did not BS around saying stuff like it's going to be complicated or hard to access etc. straight to the point. Told me where it was leaking, what caused it, showed me the video, and then provided the estimate. There were no upsells, no pressure in booking, or guilt trips. In the end I decided to hire. He sent me a text 30 min prior to arrival and was on time(for the estimate and repair). I appreciate the fact that he values my time. I hired Mendoza Handyman (Alejandro) to fix my cabinet and baseboard early December. He removed the baseboard that blocks a dishwasher and needs to be installed back when the dishwasher is fixed, which he agreed to, took with him a screw from my cabinet saying that he will use it as a sample to get matching screws, and agreed to come back to finish the job if I pay him in full on that day, which I did since I thought he was trustworthy. That was a huge mistake on my part. Now, more than a month has passed, after multiple phone calls and texts, most of which he ignored, a few times with a pretense that he will come, Alejandro has now gone silent. How can a 4.5 Yelp-star rating business act so fraudulently? I rarely give reviews, and I already gave Alejandro ample of chance to finish the job he promised, but since there's no response from him for so long, I am writing this review so fellow Yelpers will be warned--please watch out for Mendoza Handyman's fraudulent activities. I'm now left with a kitchen with uninstalled baseboard and a still broken cabinet (and still missing the screw he took away with him), on top of all the wasted time I already spent trying to get Alejandro to finish the job he promised and which he already got fully paid. read more
