Picky eater here and this is by far the best Mexican Spot in Escondido/San Marcos area. To start off the business is very clean which says a lot. Mendoza's is relatively new in the Escondido mexican food scene but they are one of the best. And that's saying something considering there is a taco shop on every block in this town. Inside the restaurant is clean and welcoming with good lighting, festive decor, and comfortable places to dine in. The service was outstanding - I called in a custom order that was handled with absolutely no issue. We got a beef taco, cheese enchilada, beef rolled tacos, and a carne asada burrito, beans and rice. The rolled tacos were crispy, not soggy like some of the other places around here. the enchilada sauce is homemade - kind of has a mole vibe, it's delicious and they do not skimp on the cheese. The carne asada in the burrito had that delicious chargrilled flavor that we all love in our carne asada but is not always present in some of our local shops. A special shoutout for their refried beans. For the most part, the beans and rice taste like an afterthought at most of our local shops. These refried beans will rival your abuelas - I said it! Super tasty Adobada and Carnitas tacos. Both with very good quality meat that's well-seasoned with proper crispy pieces. Very generous amount of meat on each taco, too. We weren't sure what to expect since there are many other mexican taco shop type places in Escondido... but this place was great! We ordered a california burrito and a carne asada fries. The fries they used were the ones we like (the thin type fries) and they were perfectly crispy and not soggy. Portion for the fries were generous and the quality of the meat was great. California burrito was also great! Both items came with sour cream included, but we asked for it on the side and there was no issue. We also really liked the salsa offerings they had there! Holy Moly, I've found my new local North County Mexican place! This very casual counter service restaurant is a hidden gem for sure. I read past reviews about it opening about 8 months ago and thought we would give it a try. The woman who took our order was friendly and helpful. The place was clean and we got chips brought to the table and helped ourselves to the salsa bar. I think they had 5 different salsas and a few were nice and spicy, just the way we liked it! I got the Chile verde plate which came with beans, rice, guacamole and pico de gallo ! Hubby ordered a taco and enchilada combo... (off the menu by the way, and they accommodated his request without hesitation). Chile verde was saucy and really spicy, with tender chunks of pork. Beans were silky and rice was tasty too. I'm not a big fan of guac but hubby and I ate it all with the chips! Sooooo delicious! Hubby loved his crunchy beef taco and cheesy enchilada with a bottled beer! We will be regulars here even though it's a few miles farther than we'd like. It's totally worth the drive. They do a brisk takeout business, but we enjoyed eating there. The gal behind the counter served our food and checked on us from time to time too. Can't wait to go back ... maybe breakfast for chilaquiles or breakfast burrito! So I finally stopped in to this new addition to escondido fast food. I ordered the steak fajitas. It came out fairly quick and it was smoking hot. It was appealing to the eye. Props to the owner/cook. The beans were mouth watering and smooth. A little salt and they were just ( almost ) like moms. The Spanish rice was great. Nice and fluffy and mixed with carrots, corn and peas. That's home cooking in my book. The fajitas probably could have been grilled a bit more but tasty anyway. Customer service was awesome. Granted there were only a few people inside but I chose to sit with Bob ( my dog ) and took advantage of the outside seating. I had to take a double take but I saw BEER in the cooler. That alone will bring me back to visit. The restaurant is spotless and the one and only restroom is clean and well What I dont understand is they ask flour or corn. I was raised on flour tortillas. These huge VW tire sized torts gotta go !! I understand cost and all but you unroll it and start to use it piece by piece to enjoy your meal...the tortilla gets cold and brittle. This restaurant is next to other businesses, grocery stores, chicken,pizza, sandwiches, car parts, CVS, salons for hair and dry cleaners. It's right in the area for a lot of other businesses. But to me it stands alone! Because of the service and the food,the atmosphere. The people who prepare the dishes use fresh ingredients and lay out the dishes in a photo worthy way. It looks so good you can't wait to dig in. Plus the portion sizes are nice also, you get what you pay for. I've always been very happy with whatever I select, and I eat every single drop! After we had ordered my husband asked for some pickled onions to put on his food as the bin was empty. She very curtly replied that there were no more. It was 12:30 in the afternoon...really? She brought us our food and my husband asked about the chips we usually get beforehand and she says..."they're coming". I then requested some forks to eat with and she tossed them on the counter saying...here. Maybe she was having a bad day, but that no reason to take it out on the folks paying your paycheck.
