A fond farewell with a happy ending. Menehune Mac will cease their operations on Waiakamilo rd by the end of Sept. 2021. BUT luckily this is not the end like so many other local business. They are moving to a new location on Republican street and will be sharing space with the Hawaiian Chip Co. location. Menehune Mac products are a cut above other local offerings. Case in point is their dark chocolate. They use a high grade chocolate that comes out of northern CA called Guittard. If you have ever tried their dark chocolate products and compared it with the competition there is no comparison. The Menehune Mac offerings are clearly better tasting. This was my first time to Menehune Macs. I was looking all morning for a place that sells cookies because the place that I usually go to was closed today. What a wonderful find this place is. They have a variety of food items in their store. And it's not a place for just tourists either. They had cookies, party mix, macadamia boxes, and even single macadamia nuts. I even saw some jams in there. I really like that there are tasting containers for practically everything in there. I wanted to try their lilikoi bars and there was a containers with free samples. Of course my hungry little daughter was with me and she was eyeing me when I had a sample so I had to give her a piece. Her response when she ate it "Mmmm." Haha, and then she said "more". I got some of their snack pack cookies and I got a few pieces of their macadamia nuts. One was a strawberry creme macadamia nut and the other was an orange creme macadamia nut. They were each 80 cents each. Good deal. It tasted pretty good, kind of like ice cream. You can also make your own box of your own favorite flavors. I heard there's a tour of how they make the chocolate and I would love to see that the next time I come. This place would be a great place to get snacks for people and maybe some Christmas gifts. Menehune Mac is a long time Hawaii company that makes legendary macadamia goodies! Recently, an amazingly sweet and generous person sent us big box filled with Menehune Mac goodies! Dark Chocolate Arare. Pineapple snow, Orange Creme, Chocolate Matcha!! My goodness. The list goes on. They are locally owned and operated since 1939. I am ashamed to say I pass this place almost daily and NEVER stopped in to check it out. Voted Best In Honolulu for YEARS now and today was my first visit to their Factory and Factory Store. I am pleasantly surprised to the warmth and friendliness of the staff and management who took time to explain their product line. They have log bags, logo t shirts and many other items you could get and use as gifts. I am also ashamed to say it took me 6 months to stop in as they were one of my bookmarks since their exhibition at the Year end Yelp Event at the Pacific Aviation Museum. If you haven't done a tour aka chocolate class here you have to. This is a ohana owned business the brother does the tours and sisters work the front. They prep everything for you so you can go in and make your chocolate box but its soo fun. Once the chocolate boxes are done the brother takes you on a factory tour. They do shut the factory down during these tours so if you want to see the employees making the chocolate than you have to go on a normal operating day. Did I mention you are encouraged to have all the samples you want lol. All ages friendly. Stumbled across this store by chance! We were walking through the area to meet a friend when the Menehune Mac sign called out to us. I remember this company from my kid days but haven't seen it around so imagine my surprise! We decided to stop in and we are so glad we did! In addition to their chocolate gift shop, they also offer tours (at 8am) as well as cookies and souvenirs. There are samples of almost all chocolate products. Gotta try their pineapple snow (white chocolate w/ hints of pineapple)...such a delicious combination! After 30 minutes or so, finally decided on a few things to bring back home. Service was friendly and welcoming. Prices are on-point. According to one of the workers, you will only find their products at Neiman Marcus or here. Since the kids are on summer break, I'm always on the lookout for things to do to entertain them. For $10 (plus tax) per person, you can tour this chocolate factory. The tour includes all the samples you can possibly eat, plus a box of handmade chocolate mac candies that you make yourself. Each box comes with 6 chocolates. The tours are only offered on certain Saturdays so make sure you call ahead to reserve your spot. We all enjoyed the tour immensely. Menehune is family owned and the siblings running the place are so friendly. Neil, the company president, conducted the tour. He was very informative and funny. I wish I can remember the names of all the items we sampled, but all I can remember is that they were all very good. My favorite is the box of chocolates that we made. It will make for a very nice gift when my husband visits his sister on the mainland. This is a perfect place to bring friends or families visiting Oahu because the tour is informative and entertaining, and hey, it's all-you-can-eat chocolate samples! While at Windward Mall around Christmas, I saw their pop up shop. Lots of samples & everything is yummy! Too tempting to load up on treats, for myself instead of for gifts, lol! I got hooked on the Lilikoi Sandbars because I luv lilikoi & the crisp, light cookie was delightful. Unfortunately they were out at the pop up so I dropped by the factory/warehouse/shop. Most of the items for sale have samples available. It's dangerous because everything is great & you will be tempted to load up on every item you taste. They use one of my favorite chocolate brands, Guittard, which is hard to resist. I especially like that some candies are made with a dark chocolate option (mac nut & arare). =) The Chocolate Chip Mac Nut Cookies & Macadamia Nut Shortbread Cookies were delicious bite sized bliss - I could easily gobble up the entire bag by myself. I wish there was an option for a less fancy packaged Lilikoi Sandbars because I buy them as a treat for myself & may give a few to close deserving friends. The cookies are in a nice lavender colored box with a pretty purple bow. The factory tours & chocolate making events sound fun! I hope to get a group together to try it. This is an amazing place to come and purchase local chocolates! Located in the industrial area of waikaimilo, it's a bit out of the way if you're a tourist but worth the visit. Look for the red door through the gate for the entrance. I prefer receiving chocolates from here than anywhere else on the island. Actually a fantastic spot to pick up gifts for companies or family parties. Parking: there is almost always off the street parking in their small parking lot. I highly recommend the dark chocolate or Chocolate chip macadamia and cookies. They are small, crispy and delicious. A fun stop with plenty of samples. We ended up getting the cookies in lieu of the chocolates since they would melt less and be easier to transport. The cookies are excellent and make a good gift. I am writing this review on behalf of my mom who worked with Jana and Susan at Menehune Mac on two different occasions; helping make the centerpieces for my sister's bridal shower and rehearsal dinner. For my sister's bridal shower, my mom originally purchased furushiki (tying the knot fabric wrapped box) from Shop Toast and wanted to put some type of treat inside of it. Jeremy at Shop Toast referred my mom to Menehune Mac, who were able to make not only one, but TWO different flavored fortune cookies (fortunes included!) for the furushiki. White pineapple snow dip with blue sprinkles and white strawberry creme dip with blue sprinkles (navy blue was her wedding color). And, to top it all off, not only did they make the fortune cookies -- they also stuffed and wrapped the boxes! My sister is an avid paddler, so they even made raffia bows and tied a mini paddle to them. For the rehearsal dinner centerpieces they made macadamia nut milk chocolates, macadamia nut pineapple white chocolates and lilikoi cookies. They even wrapped the chocolates and cookies in blue celafain, put them in a nice mat/raffia like package and wrapped it in a blue bow with a thank you note attached. Not only were the centerpieces incredibly beautiful, but the treats were also DELICIOUS! The lilikoi cookie was absolutely to die for and the macadamia nut pineapple white chocolate was bomb. The ladies at Menehune Mac made our experience so seamless and stress-free -- all we had to do was place the treats order, purchase the materials, and they took care of the rest! And all for a decent price, too. One of the best parts is that they even gave suggestions on what would make the centerpieces look even nicer (i.e., raffia bow with paddle, blue celafain) -- spurning some much needed creativity and giving the centerpieces that extra ~touch~ and just that much more special. Although I have never been to the store, my mom said that parking is pretty easy, the showroom is very nice -- and they also give free samples! :) All in all, if you are looking to host a party and need centerpieces made (and maybe don't have the time, or creative gene, to do them yourself) we would HIGHLY recommend Menehune Mac! By far, the best local chocolate on the island. This location is the warehouse where they make everything, and although I haven't done it, I believe they also offer chocolate making tours as well. This store is DANGEROUS. Like James-Bond-spy-mission-to-Soviet-Russia dangerous. Except for your thighs. And any other part of your body you want to slim down. There are free samples of practically EVERYTHING! And they don't care how much you eat. OK, they probably do eventually, but by that point, it's too late. The orange chocolate covered macadamia nuts are out of this world delicious. The pineapple ones aren't bad either. Stay way from the green tea ones unless you like the taste of green tea powder. Bleh! The chocolate chip cookies are also fantastic! The store kind of has a grey, dreary subterranean lighting scheme going on to it, so it's not the most cheery place to spend a couple of hours, but you'll probably be too busy stuffing your face to notice. read more

The macadamia nut sandbars are DELICIOUS! They're also freaking expensive. Maybe because it's "hand rolled"? Maybe because it's full of macadamia nuts? I'm not entirely sure why it's so damn expensive, but I do know that it's worth it. I must have had two or three (or six) bits from the free sample bin when we were there. I tried a bit of everything, honestly, but I kept going back to this sample. And I kept trying to convince myself that it was worth the price. They sell a good variety of chocolates and cookies, as well as shirts and reusable bags. They also have a window into the production room, which allows visitors to see the candies being processed and packaged, when it's running. Unfortunately, we went on a day when the line was down, so we didn't get to see anything. I'd love to go back to see it in action, though. read more

The customer service here is fantastic and I love that everything is handmade. As soon as we parked, someone greeted us at the entrance. Make sure you try all the samples! My personal favorites are the dark chocolate arare, dark chocolate kona coffee, and the milk chocolate mac crunch. The coconut cookies are amazing as well. I brought a bunch of these back to my family and they loved them! Do yourself a favor and stop wasting your money on Hawaiian Host (which you can buy anywhere, if I may add). Because my grandparents were here from Tokyo for about 2 months, I was running out of things to do, or for them to do for that matter. I then found Menehune Mac Candies on Yelp. This establishment is located on Waiakamilo Rd. Head south from King st. the lot is going to be on your left right after McNeill St. You'll see a faded vintage Menehune Mac sign on a reddish/pinkish building. When you enter the driveway, there are about 7-8 tandem stalls on the left, I just parked there. We went on a whim during the afternoon. Owner Neal Arakawa was sitting outside and happily guided us in to the store. Lots of samples, chocolate covered macadamia nuts (Milk, Dark, White, sugar-free, Pineapple, Orange Creme, Strawberry, Coffee, matcha/green tea, etc) gift sets, bags, chex mix (Spicy or Sweet, Both were delicious), different types of okoshi (pricey but delicious and addicting), cookies, local fabric christmas tree (sorry don't know what thats called but they were really cute), chocolate bar (Make your own box of mix and match chocolate macadamia), shirts, and favor packaging samples (for weddings, birthdays, etc). The store itself does have a nice local feel to it. No signs of corporate influence. Also from the store, you can see the factory through a glass window. Although a small factory, and everything is produced there for distribution, the price is not bad at all. And even the taste! (Let me tell you, the fresh-out-of-the -box tastes better than the samples so don't be influenced by it...) As we were the only ones in the store, we got to meet Neal, the owner. Very down to earth, humble individual who can also speak Japanese! He told me about the tours he conducts every day, and it's only $10 for the tour and a personalized box of 6 chocolate covered macadamia nuts packaged and sealed. We decided to jump on that for the following morning at 8:15. We got there about 8AM, the tour didn't start until guests from JTB arrived around 8:30AM. During the wait time we just ate some samples and talked with Neal lol. I won't spoil the tour for you, but let me just tell you, my grandparents, my mom, and I enjoyed it very much. This is a special store with folks who really know chocolate and it's an annual tradition to get a gift pack for our friends as a Christmas present. Why don't we get our friends a Christmas gift from other places, it's because Menehune Mac makes the best selection of sugar free chocolates and cookies. Our friends are diabetic and love the candies and shortbread cookies we send. You can visit them in a kiosk at Windward Mall around Christmas time but to really see their full offering of sugar free and regular chocolates and products, you need to visit the store. Memehune Mac is a hawaii staple, and the best place to discover delicious, locally made products! A few of the products are available at Neiman Marcus but go straight to the factory for the chance to sample everything, see all the goods, and even watch them being made if you stop by in the morning. Whenever I need gifts to bring back to the main land or baskets made I always stop by here. Even if I can't decide what to put in the baskets, the staff are always more than helpful and recommend products based on what I tell them about the recipient. Their products are a little pricier than their competitors, but the flavor quality and presentation of their products is far superior. Menehune Mac chocolate is outstanding. The "Pineapple Snow" being near perfection to me -- I would be doomed (very happily so) if the white-chocolate-and-pineapple combination was made into a candy bar! -- but they have several other excellent combinations as well. I'd bought Pineapple Snow and a few of the more usual combinations before from a shop on the other side of the island, but this time I thought the Dark Chocolate Arare -- with salted crispy rice crackers -- was another surprising standout. (I loaded up on a few boxes of that, as well as the Pineapple Snow I came in for.) The factory gift shop is a decent size, and has a wide variety of Menehune Mac chocolates and souvenirs. It seems to be an older place, tucked in an off-the-beaten-path location, but is worth a visit. I wish I'd gotten her name, but the lady who was working the day I went was a joy to talk to -- welcoming, friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. When we entered the shop we were greeted by a friendly man and woman who welcomed us in and encouraged us to explore, sample, and ask any questions we may have. Now, when I say they encouraged us to sample, I mean they REALLY encouraged us! They told us to try as much as we wanted and after we got over our tiny bit of shyness, we sampled away. Our favorited were the dark chocolate mocha, the pineapple snow, the green tea, and the dark chocolate arare. Soooo yummy! My husband and I are usually a bit shy about taking several samples, but the shop keepers never kept an eye on us so we didn't feel guilty about trying all they had to offer. A definite plus in my book! That kind of service and feeling of ease is pretty hard to come by these days when all other stores are trying to avoid giving away anything for free. We ended up purchasing a mixed box of chocolates which included 15 hand picked pieces. It's nice that you can have a good selection of your favorites all in one box rather than having to be so selective because you don't want to buy huge boxes of everything. On one side of the shop there are huge windows looking into the production line, but itwasn't operational during our visit. That's too bad because I would've enjoyed seeing the chocolates being made, but maybe it'll give me something to look forward to next time. I believe I saw something that said you can schedule a party or something similar where you can create your own chocolate dipped mac nuts, etc. I'd look into it if you have an upcoming children's birthday or other event where you want something fun, unique, and hands-on to do. If you haven't visited Menehune Mac yet, I definitely recommend you taking a few minutes out of your day to stop by and pick up some delicious chocolatey treats. read more

I love stopping into Menehune Mac every time I'm in Hawaii. It's a great place to cool off on a hot day. But of course, the main event is the chocolate. Since they have samples of everything, I can tell you that everything is yummy. However, my favorite is the dark chocolate arare. It puts those generic chocolate-pretzel Flip things with the plastic-y chocolate to shame, and It's always a tough choice deciding how many boxes to buy. Added bonus--The chocolate assembly line inspires visions of Lucy and Ethel, and you can schedule special events or parties there if you want to relive their zany adventures. The gift shop, while not the biggest one on the island, has a lot of interesting stuff that keeps me wandering around and around, tasting and shopping, picking things up and putting them down, then picking them up again. Usually the prices are better than other tourist places like Dole Plantation, too. it's a little off the beaten path for tourists, but it's well worth the trip. My family who live on Oahu are always glad for the opportunity to take me there when I visit. read more

First Timer here. Very impressed with the 45 min tour given by the president of the company. Their chocolate is definitely handmade and seperates them from your usual Hawaiian host or Mauna Loa macs. These are not sold in your everyday grocery store or CVS. Please support local and take the tour for $10. You won't be disappointed. Oh, and you get to make your own box of handmade chocolate covered macadamia nuts. They only use the best ingredients and macadamia nuts. read more

Ample parking. Follow the sign to get in the showroom. Big red MENEHUNE man. Went to visit the showroom looking for prices on Mac but candy for wedding favors. Quite a bit of display ideas. Samples to taste. Variety of choices, candies and cookies. Mac nut candy is delicious! Showroom is a little run down, but kept clean. The girl who was there was semi-friendly/helpful. The guy who answered the phone was very nice! I'll probably end up going back for the wedding favors candy (wish it was better pricing).... I still have yet to see them make the candy!
