For context, I have never attended any formal firearm training before taking the CCW class offered by Mental Marksmanship. I was in the Scouts, shot a few rounds with my brother before, and my father owned a gun. However, that being said, I imagine that even those with extensive experience will end up taking away something valuable from these two brilliant instructors, making the price for this course well worth what you pay. For additional context, I purchased a discounted voucher via Groupon, but I was so happy with the experience that I am looking for additional courses by these instructors and would be happy to pay the full list price (which is already competitive with other course prices) This course was about so much more than just gun safety, the laws, and how to concealed carry. While we did get into proper gun handling safety and techniques, the overarching theme was the Mental aspect. At first I thought the name Mental Marksmanship was targeted for people "Crazy" about guns. This assumption, was far from the case. What I found was that the instructors were raising really thought provoking questions. I went home really thinking about the impacts of carrying a gun. They really hit home on not just the legal ramifications of owning a gun, but several other areas which I will leave for them to share with you. Additionally, the primary instructor is incredibly qualified to be teaching- I can't remember all the details, but I do remember he served in high up leadership roles for law enforcement for many many years. He's seen it all, and I immediately felt comfortable and respected what he had to share. His assistant was also wonderful, qualified, and really emphasized the "Mental" aspect of this course. The two really complimented each other. Lastly, I had no expectations of this course, content wise. It was close by and had great reviews for a great prices. I've taken the AZ CCW before and appreciate taking this second time with MM because of the in depth real world application and scenario based instruction I've recieved. Being a former practical pistol competitor, I was still impressed with the things I learned to improve my skills. For a first time gun user, I HIGHLY recommend this company! I never held a gun in my hand before this Consealed Carry class! I am a woman who has become more concerned for my safety with all of the shootings going on around the country. Mental Marksmanship came highly recommended from another gun owner. The information during the class provided answers to the questions of what is legal about shooting a gun, and when I should, and should not shoot a gun. The instructors Jack & Lena were proficient and provided excellent answers. With many years of law enforcement behind them, they truly know what in the world a 'newbie' like me needed to know to feel confident. I learned my rights and the rules of gun ownership. I now feel confident with how to hold a gun, as well as shooting it! In this class you come to understand how the Police and Courts are involved in every gun-owners' decision to pull out gun and just how quickly things transpire that can determine the rest of your life. I was provided ample time to ask questions and never felt embarrassed or ridiculed. No question was stupid. This relieved my concerns of what others might think about me. I felt encouraged to ask questions. I had never held a gun, didn't know what a 'magazine' was, much less how to shoot one. Jack and Lena made sure I learned at a pace I felt comfortable with and was patient with all of the students. (There were several ladies present.) The classroom instruction was explicit, accurate with revealing the do's and don'ts about using a gun. As well as tips on when and when NOT, to pull the gun out! Not every upset situation is an emergency. For instance, when possibly two strangers may have a gun involved and how I could just unknowingly arrive at the situation Jack explained what to do and NOT do. For instance, I pull up to a Circle K where a gunman may be holding the cashier up.....what do I do? This was clarified in the class. I have never shot a gun but with the experience of 'same day' practice at their shooting range and the personalized instruction, I feel 100% capable now of protecting myself, if and when the situation should ever arise. The class offered 'fingerprinting' for $20.00 and I was provided the paperwork to send off to get my actual Concealed Carry Permit. Although Arizona does NOT require a CCP, I now understand the VALUE of having the permit. I will be taking additional classes that are designed to enhance more knowledge about MENTAL CONTROL during a crisis. This will allow me to 'practice' if and when I should ever have to protect myself. Perfect Practice = Perfect Performance! We even learned the value of rehearsing various situations that could occur and how I can best protect myself. Plus suggestions to familiarize myself with carrying a gun by practicing over and over grabbing my gun from my holster in the event of an urgency so that I wouldn't have to 'think about it' when I need to 'act fast'. They even taught breathing exercises! I am just so impressed! I drove 60 miles one way to take this class from Mental Marksmanship because of their knowledge in gun safety and law enforcement. Mental Marksmanship also offer additional classes/opportunities so people can have the BEST training, Arizona can provide. I am fortunate to have been referred to them and would recommend them to everyone. Seriously, don't go anywhere else. read more

There is so much more to a weapon than aiming for a target. Mental marksmanship did an excellent job of explaining that a fire arm requires skill of the weapon, safety habits, and knowledge of the law. I went into the class with no gun experience and I was actually afraid of guns. After this class, I have a high respect for guns and I feel safer owning one for myself. As a novice to firearms I had no idea what to expect, but I was dreading the 8-hour long concealed carry class that I bought for me and my husband. I am DELIGHTED to report that the day flew by because the instructors, Jack and Lena, led a brisk-paced, well-organized and entertaining class packed with exactly the information that we needed. They emphasized not only the physical and legal aspects of carrying and using a gun, but also the mental and emotional aspects. Their explanations, video clips, and real-life stories regarding all of these aspects vividly communicated the important considerations that must be faced by anyone who is thinking about carrying a gun. After the classroom instruction, we all caravanned to Cow Town, a desert shooting range just north of Phoenix. Even though I don't think of myself as "afraid of guns", I was surprised at the magnitude of my nervousness when the gun was actually in my hand and it was my turn to fire off 10 rounds. I was so appreciative of the care, understanding and calming support that I received from Jack and Lena. They are a remarkably effective team! I cannot say enough about what a great class this is, and I am recommending it to everyone I know! read more
