great stuff here. You won't find at hot topic. Came in here looking for patches. The place was playing David Bowie. A crap ton of punk and music. Clothing from the 80s and punk era. They have patches, hair color dye and old records. Parking can be found on the residential style of the block. You don't have to shop on etsy or ebay to look for old school clothing. Theres tons of leather jackets and band shirts. read more

Wow! all I can say is... disturbing! I know nothing at all about the owner of Meow Meowz, though apparently she has some psychotic haters on here. However, I will not be intimidated or afraid to write a review being that I am an innocent bystander. Not a friend of her's, just a local appreciative of this oasis of coolness in a desert of establishments that cater to hipsters. I drove by this place a few times mentally bookmarking it to stop by sometime and see what it had. I asked my Boyfriend to go one weekend so we popped in. The outside seemed attractive like a record store though I had no idea it had so many other wonderful things! I love that you can find new and USED items here. It prevents you from looking like a homogenized Hot Topic clone since you can find unique, authentic and vintage items for not just goths, but punks, glam rockers, etc. all kinds of different styles really. I love the condensation of items like clothing, shoes, music, jewelry, even school supplies ( I walked away with a Skelanimals pencil bag) I love shops like this since you never know what you will find! I couldn't decide on what to list as the price range since you can find band buttons for less than $2 and amazing boots at closer to $100. It varies, even if you are poor you can walk away with a small treasure. read more

This is my new home away from home! I need to own everything Veronika sells! She has vintage, new & special order items for every dark heart casting their shadow. I couldn't just leave her without buying stuff. I have a shitload of friends that have been waiting for a place like this. She had these very perty black boots that were just one half size too small for me....Doh! I bought something rockin for everyone I love...sans myself. So I'll just HAVE to go back! Ipso Facto needs to step aside.....they fail based on their location. This is my brother's type of store. That's why we came. I wanted to buy my brother jeans for his graduation gift since his jeans have holes where a sister shouldn't have to see, or anyone should have to see for that matter. He only wears Dogpile jeans. Apparently other skinny jeans aren't skinny enough. These Dogpile jeans were sold out everywhere online but I found out that Meowmeowz sold Dogpile. I had my brother call and ask if they had the ones he wanted in his size and sure enough they did so off we went. I am notorious for getting lost so if you're like me you might have trouble finding it but just one phone call to the store and I was back on track. I was able to find parking in the front of the store where a standing mannequin dressed as a punk scared the bejeesus out of me. The inside is your typical punk/rock/goth/music store. Dark with punk rock music playing but not loud enough to blow my ear drums out thank goodness. My brother definitely looked like he fit in here and I did not but the guy working there was cool and could keep a conversation with both of us. Back to the jeans: we found them and they were 50% off!! Hell yeah! So the brother got two pairs and I ended up getting some cute socks with skulls. I mentioned Yelp, got 15% off and we left. This isn't my kind of store but I have no problem bringing my brother back but hopefully next time he'll have his license and he can come back on his own ;) . read more

I love shops like this! A woman owns it and her boyfriend works there with her. They have a plethora (my daughter always makes me happy when she uses words like this in her homework) of really cool items and a fun atmosphere in which to browse them. We went in there for a band t-shirt that the aforementioned daughter needed for her choir cabaret. She opted for Pink Floyd (our daughters are well versed in classic rock). While there we checked out all the t-shirts, the other throwback hippie attire (a sweet youth why have you abandoned me), awesome buttons and bumper stickers, and other sundry delights. We chatted with the owner and her boyfriend, trading war stories about our rock and roll youth. She told us that Keith Moon's daughter and granddaughters are shop regulars - I told her about the time I almost got to have lunch with Roger Daltrey and Pete Townsend when I was in a production of Tommy (not long after it came out - thanks to time travel and being the youngest kid in the production) and lamented that the whole thing was cancelled and the issues to be discussed were handled through the mail (way less fun). All in all it was a great trip down memory lane. The shop has loads of cool stuff - some new, some consigned. The customer service is top notch and I'd go back again in a heartbeat. read more

Meowmeowz is awesome! A cool vintage shop geared towards punk/rockabilly aficionados, with a nice selection of old records, clothes, shoes and accessories. I found out about this place by yelping "Manic Panic" in the area. Since then, I have returned several times because the owner Veronika is such a sweet gal and it's her personality and charisma alone that keeps me returning. There is also a small stage in the back. One can apparently rent out the space for jamming or performing. The ceiling is also plastered with posters of Robert Smith and The Cure. Yay! So happy to have discovered this local gem in the Pasadena area. read more

This is my new "it" store. Not only is it walking distance from my house but it basically has everything I want. At first my main goal was to see if they had creepers and they did! I was beyond excited! Not only because they carried them but while I was in New York I saw them there but they were over $130 and at Meowmeowz they were a mere $55! Complete bargain! And they sell a larger variety of of Manic Panic hair dye than I saw at Sally's Beauty Supply. Love this place! read more

I absolutely love this store. It is the most perfectly quaint, hole-in-the-wall, punk store with really flipping rad employees. I can't stress enough how charming Meow Meowz is, as well as the people that run it. Even coming upon this store was almost serendipitous. It just felt so meant to be. I am not from the area at all, I had just moved to Santa Barbara from Florida less than a year ago and I rarely travel around. Luckily, I happened to stop for lunch at the same sushi bar as one of the employees', a beautiful little blonde punk-chick, that had coincidentally walked pass me just as I was commenting on the cute decals on her car. The energy she exerted as we spoke was just so awesome and welcoming that I had to go check out the store. And I was not disappointed. The store itself was a little hard to find, but it was worth the struggle. Meow Meowz has the greatest assortment of alternative apparel at really reasonable prices. Not only do they have rad shoes and clothes, but they have sweet patches, band pins, piercings, jewelry, Vinyls, hats, and tons of fun random items for sale throughout the store, with the add on bonus of really helpful, outgoing, personable sales representatives. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and I plan on going back sometime in the very near future. I had a great time at MeowMeowz last night! I thought this was a great little shop that was able to host many punk/metal bands in its tiny space! They have a great sound system and really pulled in a crowd! The store is awesomely decorated with 80s punk rock items from all over! I was so stoked to be able to find a 1950s vintage Swedish military coat for a great price! Veronica was awesome and friendly. She treats her costumers like friends! Great little store and definitely coming back! read more

tl;dr: Hot Topic done right. Super fun little business. Not quite up my alley (I'm the wrong side of 40 I'm afraid) but pretty fabulous little boutique. The vinyls were well-chosen and fairly priced (nice 80's items $4-6), with surprisingly robust sections of current hi-energy dance and electronica and indie in addition to the vintage new-wave and reggae and hip hop and... Elsewhere, lots of black clothing and funky shoes and punk band T-shirts. The general sort of thing you find at Hot Topic, but this looked better quality and more hand-made somehow. Certainly more authentic. I only mention HT as a broad frame of reference. I was all set to hate this place since I stopped by at 11:40am and they had (supposedly) opened at 11am but were still shackled, with the sign cautioning, "hours variable." Screw this, I thought, and left Pasadena, but swung by on my way back from Arcadia and they were open. Though I didn't buy anything, I really appreciated the passion and zeal (and vision) put into this place. read more

This is pretty cool for what it is. I was under the impression from the name (Rock Shop) and from glancing inside while driving by...that it was more....Rock/Metal centered. I guess I should have read the reviews....cuz this is definitely a more punk shop. I'm not so much into that so I just kinda browsed around for a bit. Their vinyl selection had like...2 metal albums. :( It's a super cute shop and I would love to be a customer...but there wasn't much there for me. :) read more

Fantastic little rock shop, mostly focused on Punk fashions. I was having a few doors down at Plate 38 and felt I had to check out this shop. Boy was I glad I did. I snagged a cool skull tie, and a few other items. They've got great punk shirts, even for infants! And a bunch of random accessories like spiked belts and stuff. Some of it has a real vintage feel. Part music, part vintage shop with a surprisingly diverse/good quality (albeit smallish because the store itself isn't huge) clothing and shoe selection, all "punk rock." I love this joint, went in looking for something to quell my desire for an old pair of boots I was feeling nostalgic for, and Veronika just so happened to have the brand new repops! I didn't even know they existed! When I got home, I looked them up online, and discovered she had actually even given me a really great price on them! Ok, I admit it. I wasn't really intending to go into this place, but I've driven by it many times over the years and it intrigued me. I go to the Zephyr Cafe from time to time for coffee, but never got up the gumption to go in. A couple nights ago after spending sometime on a new skateboard design at Zephyr, I noticed this shiny disco ball bouncing lights my ways and thought it would make a nice picture. The place looked open, but no one was inside. So being an unrepentant street photographer, I went over to take a pic of the disco ball. While I'm taking this picture I hear this voice saying something about I should wait, I'm almost there...we're really open or something. I wasn't paying attention because I didn't think the person behind me was talking to me. Then this woman with a look of concern I might be a soon to be lost customer comes up to the door and starts unlocking it. She said sorry it was locked and invited me in with a very nice smile if I do say so myself. Sometimes you come across people who are just throw out friendly like a disco ball throws out shiny beams of light. Veronika, the owner as I discovered later, is one of those people. I'm one of those people who kind of wanders and likes to find myself in random conversation with interesting and nice people. This was one of those situations. I decided to go in since the walls were covered with my childhood and you never know what you'll find. She was working late and while I know she had stuff she had to do, she was open to conversation and was even polite when I got into a longer than I realized story about X. (I do this often and sometimes don't realize how long I've been blathering, but I'm pretty good at seeing the signs in people facial expressions, but still I blather...odd...) It's funny, when I walked in I told her I probably wasn't going to buy anything, so...but she said, no problem go ahead and explore, which was nice. I don't know why I said I wasn't going to buy something, it was kind of rude, but I gotta give her props for being polite and friendly in the face of my little rudenesses. The selection of stuff is awesome. Nice clothing, buttons galore and a small, but very nice vinyl collection. I ended buying a copy of Wilma Flinstone tells the story of Bambi in story and song. I would have bought more. I was tempted to buy the fantastic brass spiky bra that has this awesome patina, but I really have no use for a bra, so I resisted. So here's the bottom line, if you are looking for punk or 80s music, clothes or swag go to MeowMoewz! If you want to support a local business, go to MeowMoewz!. Finally, I said it to her when I was there and I'll say it again, it's no small achievement for a small business to survive one year, much less four years...and on Colorado Blvd. That kind of spirit and will is something I gladly support. Growing up Pasadena used to have a lot of little cool independent places from Book Village, the Rialto and the secret espresso bar in the alley off Raymond and Colorado. Now most of that color has been lost to the corporate gentrification. The good news is many of those places and certainly that spirit survives in East Pasadena, which is home to MeowMeowz, PooBahs and the DooDah. So if you are looking for some food rock stylings, check this place out. read more
