We enjoyed taking are dogs to run leash-free along the lake. There's a dirt walking path you can walk down to watch to ensure the dog's safety. On day 7 while I was putting up second tent for my son a very angry man stopped by in a golf cart. He was yelling about us leaving in a day. I explained to him we had the lot for two weeks and offered proof by receipt in my email. He got even angrier and threatened me with some man name Mike paying me a visit!?!? After he realized he was wrong he tried to tell us we could not have two tents. Not true. I had to show him proof on my phone. Then he tried to tell us our tent we just put up was in the wrong place. It was not. I showed him the lot map. The man seemed intoxicated but I'm not sure. After he left he went to the next lot and yelled at that man . I personally have never been treated so rude. This place has no real camp host. This place has no hospitality. The camp host from lot #20 is a real creep. There is something not right with him mentally and I suggest others do not camp near lot #20 camp host. The camp host at lot #20 needs to be fired. He should not be around families or children. Beware of this park for many reasons. 1) camp host lot #20 2) homeless 3) dirty , trash everywhere. 4) no good trails 5) no water access 6) pot smoke and meth smoke in the air at night 7) camp host #20 8) camp sites are uneven mud pits Untill this park puts real camp host in place it will remain a dump. Parking is plentiful at check-in. The staffs are extremely helpful at preparing life vests for us and putting us at the river. The end of the "ride" has a giant green flag, where the staffs help us get out of the water. We had amazing time and would recommend it. Tips: 1) the short trip was noted as 4 hours, though we finished in 2 hours. We recommend spending time parking our kayak at some beaches closeby for fun. 2) even though we selected a ride time of 9am, we are free to arrive any time before 12:30pm

I am thankful for the resource and the city is clearly trying to make a nice "green space" for…read morepeople to enjoy. I have been in a lot of places in the world and seen better, but also much worse attempts to give the citizenry a taste of nature. The park is actually much larger than it seems at first glance. There are three ponds and some drainage streams. I primarily come to fish (in reality stand near water and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine, as I rarely catch anything of significance). I would guess that in 25 trips I have caught and released 10 fish (bass, sunfish, catfish). I have enjoyed every single minute doing so. -On another note- I have jokingly called this place "divorce park". There are a few playground pieces that I see the occasional over wrought dad or mom leverage to entertain (or wear out) the little ones. I see them [I have been them], sitting there contemplating the choices that put them there. Of course these days they are furiously engrossed in their phone more often than not. There is also the phenomena of secret "assignations", you see cars arrive and one person hops into the other. It is both sad and funny, considering that choice is likely to have them end up back at this park...with the aforementioned kids and the regrets. I also see the signs of drug use/ drug buys (I've travelled the world, and lived in Baltimore for years). This place is no worse than anywhere else, I am not saying it is dangerous...it is just a reality. I guarantee there is drug activity at the bright and shiny O'Fallon sports megaplex. I have come to the conclusion that if you are at this park and not fishing, hiking, frisbee golfing, walking a dog - you are "crime-ing" or sinning...LOL

Simpson Park Lake is my favorite local spot to kayak…read more Unloading: There is a circular dirt drive off of the parking lot where you can load and unload kayaks/paddleboards/canoes right at the boat launch area. The Lake: This is one of the best spots to kayak on the West side of St Louis. You can get about 3,000 meters from one loop around the lake, and there are usually very few people on the water. It is much quieter than Creve Coeur Lake. The water is calm and without motorized boats, other than trolling motors. There are often great blue heron and egrets in the water.
