Stopped in for some drinks on a hot day. The host barely greeted us and we asked if we could sit at the bar. We ordered a couple of drinks from the lady behind the bar who seemed irritated by us being there. We were told there was a limited menu until happy hour that started in 90 minutes. We decided to try the drinks before deciding what was next. Both drinks were beautiful but not delish. They had too much going on and were not balanced. We asked for the check after 20 minutes of nothing from the bar tender and decided to Head out to somewhere else for lunch. Beautiful place and then menu looked tasty by the service and drinks were a hard no for us.

The spot for a perfect GNO! the space is adorable, and on the smaller side! You order before you sit down which is Interesting but you can add on anything after you are seated too. I got a dirty martini to drink, this was fine. There were 3 of us for dinner and I felt like we had a perfect amount of food. We got the beef fat fries, lobster salad, scallops and the spaghetti! The beef fat fries are amazing, these are a must get. I'm usually not a thick fry person but the flavor in these was incredible! A heads up the lobster salad does not have lettuce, it is pieces of lobster, but it was so flavorful with all the herbs! The scallops were great, cooked to perfection! Our spaghetti was cold, but it was good! I would recommend the other items over the spaghetti! We added on a white wine and it was amazing! Very cute spot overall!

John's Food & Wine has only been open two years, but it already feels like a local favorite with a personality all its own. The name John's is a tribute to the fathers of both chefs--a nice touch that sets the tone for a place rooted in personal connection and hospitality. What's most unusual here--especially for an upscale restaurant--is that you place your order before being seated. I've never seen that at this level of dining, but surprisingly, it works. The menu is tight and well-curated, so decision-making is quick, and once you're seated the service flows just like any polished restaurant. Servers still deliver dishes, answer questions, refresh drinks, and guide you through the meal. What We Ordered: Starters * Half Dozen Oysters - Fresh, clean, briny--exactly what you hope for. * Beef Fat Fries - Oh wow. Absolutely addictive. Golden, crispy, and rich in the best possible way. A must-order. * Hamachi - Light, bright, beautifully balanced. A refreshing contrast to the heavier starters. * Sweet Potato - Layers of flavor--roasted sweetness, savory toppings. Surprisingly memorable. Entrées * Thick-Cut Prime Rib - As a prime rib enthusiast, I'd call it good but not mind-blowing. Cooked correctly, but lacking the depth of flavor I expect at $80. I even asked for raw horseradish to give it more punch. * Half Chicken - The sleeper hit of the night. Juicy, deeply seasoned, and honestly better than many chicken dishes at top-tier spots. Dessert * Carrot Cake Sundae - Not your typical slice of carrot cake. This was a fully deconstructed sundae with crème fraîche peach ice cream, miso salted caramel, and white chocolate crumble. Sweet, tangy, salty, and creamy--it hit every note. Easily one of the most imaginative desserts I've had in a while, and a perfect way to finish the meal. The Space & Service The restaurant is narrow, almost split in three parts: the entrance with bar-side seating, then a small dining section adjacent, and finally a back dining room where we sat. For our first hour, we had that back room to ourselves--an unexpected private-feeling experience. Service was warm, personable, and spot-on. Our server clearly loved the menu and added to the enjoyment. Like many Chicago spots, John's includes a 20% built-in service charge--worth noting, though service quality matched the ethos of a traditional tip. John's isn't trying to be flashy--it's thoughtful, ingredient-driven dining with a personal story behind it. If you go, don't miss the fries, the hamachi, and that chicken. And if you're a prime rib purist like me, just know you've been warned.

What an amazing place! Call me impatient but I love the concept of ordering first and then being seated. The host was exceptional, very attentive and answered all our questions. We were seated promptly and waited no time for our courses. We started with the mix green salad which was unique but a little acidic. We next had the rye bread which was warm and delightful. The gnocchi stole the show as it had a perfect buttery and creamy sauce and allowed us to split between lobster and no lobster. Finally the wagu steak was tender and melt-in-your-mouth. Loved the mushrooms as well! A definite MUST try restaurant.

Went in for happy hour on a Sunday. Thought we needed to order at the front, but we sat at the bar and ordered there. Everyone was very nice and attentive. We loved the "happy meal" offering of a burger and a martini, but didn't want to drink, so we switched out the martini for a diet coke. The diet coke came in a bottle, which I loved and feel like I don't see a lot. The star of the show was obviously the burger and I loved this one! The homemade pickles were fabulous, as was the cheese and onions included. Would definitely go back for that burger! I'm sad we didn't order the beef fat fries, which I've heard great things about, but that only means I'll have to do back! Tip is included, which we didn't realize. We paid and sat at the bar waiting for the receipt to ensure we tipped. We did have to ask the bartender, but definitely a nice addition (and one to be aware of).

We did the tasting menu and overall it was great. The quality was comparable to other tasting menus in the same range (Galit, Monteverde, Parachute (RIP)). The only knock on the one we had was chicken breast was the main protein, which while it was prepared about perfectly, it's also just chicken breast. Luckily the morels and sauce were an outstanding compliment. The scallop and lobster were outstanding, with the serrano in the aioli pairing very well with the lobster. The wine selection was also excellent and fantastic. 100% would go again and try out the non-tasting menu.

Outstanding! From the minute we arrived until the minute we left, the entire dining and culinary experience was just that one word...outstanding! When you arrive, you place your order with the host for your entire meal. The host did a great job walking us through the menu and guiding the experience with recommendations for number of courses. They also advised the kitchen will course the entire order and nothing else will be needed when you are seated. We ordered two small plates, two mid plates, one main and one dessert for two people. We had the tomato salad and lobster salad for small plates. They were beautiful combinations of flavors and textures. Bright and full of summer flavors. For mid plates, we had the beef fat fries and holy cow were they amazing. Hot and crunchy outside and light fluffy inside. Tremendously prepared! We also had the Radiatore which we eat so quickly I missed taking a picture. This one I could have licked the plate the sauce was so delicious. We ended with skirt steak which was perfectly prepared and amazing flavors. We finished with the blueberry sorbet which was very light and quite a lovely way to complete the meal. Highly recommend and will be back there for sure!

Loved everything about this Lincoln Park gem, from the delicious food, to the great service, and cozy vibes. The staff went above and beyond to make sure our order didn't have any of my food allergies. All around great experience. My sister and I split the following dishes and all were exceptional: Lobster salad, citrus cured hamachi crudo, beef tartare, roasted beet salad, duck breast

Wow is the food awesome here! Stopped in early on a Friday and picked our menu items and sat down right away. Everything here is seasonal and really fresh. We had some of the best cabbage I've ever had here! Service is also great, our server was so kind and made it a fun experience. Wine was also solid, good choices and you could do anything from a glass to a bottle! Ambiance is cozy and casual which makes it perfect for a relaxing Friday out.

We've had John's Food & Wine on our radar for some time now so we came in on a Friday evening and put our name down. It was about an hour or so wait so we stopped by an izakaya spot near by for a drink and appie. Then the restaurant texted us letting us know our table was ready. We got the Milk Bread, Roasted Beet Salad, Beef Fat Fries, Grilled Pork Collar, and the Salted Crème Fraiche Ice Cream to end off our meal. We also had their sommelier pair natural/bio-dynamic wines for us which were phenomenal! Overall, the food was delicious and wine pairings were chosen thoughtfully. The ambiance was very cozy and the restaurant had a nice buzz. The service great as well and the host/servers were welcoming. We would stop by again the next time we're in Chicago.

    Rachelle L.

A small but intimate restaurant - really interesting concept where it's a nicer restaurant but you order first up front with the hostess before being taken to your table. We got the lobster salad, beef tartare, milk bread, branzino and a cosmo and white wine. The ordering system turned out to be pretty efficient as our drinks were brought out right away, and the flavors of all the dishes were on point! Would maybe skip the milk break. Also note that the restaurant is walk in only so would recommend going on the earlier side. Price point is on the higher side, but I think overall worth it for the quality of dishes. This was hands down the best dining experience I have had in ages. Walked in on a Sunday around 3:30 initially planning to just have a glass of wine before date night. We ended up getting some of the best oysters I've had in the city, then decided to roll into dinner. The dirty martini was phenomenal, the wine outstanding. BUT THE FOOD. My god, every bite better than the last. We ended up making friends with the table next to us, so we drank, ate and talked for a few hours before finally wrapping up. Everyone was so accommodating and kind. 10/10 will be back again and again.

Came here on a whim after missing a reservation and they are walk-in only, which was great. We ordered the milk bread, ravioli, beef fat fries and duck breast. I really enjoyed the dishes but the service was really slow, especially when trying to get the duck breast and the servers also never refilled our water. They ended up charging a 20% gratuity automatically which should warrant better service than what was provided.

There was a line but fortunately the wait wasn't long and I saw a table open up just after I ordered. Food arrived quickly. I got the mango snowcloud and it was huge! Lushious cubes of ripe mangos sprinkled with mango popping boba surrounded the mountain of soft, pillowy, creamy, mango milk ice, which was topped with mango ice cream, further drizzled with mango sauce. It was decadent and refreshing, so tasty yet not overwhelmingly sweet. The flavors were so good!!! Highly recommend this and would be back to try other items on their menu.

We walked into a casual and modern space that works well for stopping by after a meal or meeting up with friends for something sweet. The interior is bright and clean, with a relaxed energy that makes it easy to settle in for a dessert without feeling rushed. The menu has a wide range of options, from shaved ice and mango sago to cakes and other fruit desserts, making it easy to find something depending on your mood. The mango mille crepe cake is one of the highlights and a great representation of what the shop does well. We ordered a slice and found the cake made with thin layers of crepe stacked together with cream and fresh mango, creating a texture that feels light while still being satisfying. The layers are soft and delicate, and the mango adds a bright fruitiness that keeps the dessert from feeling overly heavy or too sweet. The balance between the creamy layers and the fresh mango flavor made it feel more refreshing than a traditional cake, especially with the mango being ripe and fragrant. It was also one of the better choices for sharing, as the slice was generous enough to pass around the table. Beyond the mille crepe cake, the menu has plenty of variety with options like mango shaved ice, mango sticky rice, and fruit-based drinks. We appreciated that the desserts are presented carefully, making the experience feel more like a sit-down dessert stop rather than just grabbing something quick. The shaved ice was light and fluffy, with a good amount of mango and toppings that added texture without overwhelming the base. The fruit-based drinks were also refreshing and served as a nice palate cleanser between the richer desserts. The shop can get busy, especially after dinner hours, but the line usually moves along at a steady pace. The staff handled the flow efficiently, and the turnover was fast enough that even with a small wait, we were seated quickly. The seating area is comfortable, and the energy of the room stays lively without becoming too loud. Mango Mango Dessert is a solid Chinatown dessert destination if you are looking for fruit-forward sweets with a lighter, refreshing style. The mango mille crepe cake is a must-try for first visits and one of the items that best captures the appeal of the menu, offering a dessert that feels both visually appealing and satisfying to eat.

I wish I was able to travel with one of their cheesecakes but they require refrigeration. Anyhow the cheesecake itself was delicious super light, fluffy, and honestly felt like biting into a cloud. I had the salted egg but they had several flavor options that I would've loved to try if slices were available. The texture is what really stands out, and the flavor was unique and interesting in a good way. I couldn't quite put my finger on what it taste like, but it was sweet, but not too sweet They only sale but I consider a personal size but it's definitely enough to share with two people, maybe even three depending on how much of a sweet tooth you have. My only downside like others is the price. Paying around $19-$20 for a small cheesecake felt a bit steep, especially since they don't offer slices. I really wish they had smaller portions available so you could try different flavors without committing to a full cake prize. They package it very well and they also serve you a cute little fork set and a knife for cutting which I think is contributes to the price. The shop itself is very cute with chic décor and a lot of Asian-inspired artwork, which adds to the overall vibe. Customer service was friendly. When I visit Chicago again I'd definitely go back the texture and taste alone make it worth it but I do hope they consider offering smaller portions in the future.
