Amazing drinks, cute atmosphere, and delicious food! I had the Mi Gente drink and highly recommend it!

Had the pleasure of dining at Diego on a beautiful Saturday evening. We sat in the outdoor patio because we brought our dog along. From the moment we stepped into the restaurant, we were welcomed warmly. The young gentleman who waited on us was friendly, knowledgeable about the menu and helped with our selections. The food came quickly and was excellent. The drinks were excellent as well. The owner and his wife stopped by to say hello (as well as their young daughter who had to pet our dog). I didn't want to leave. I felt like I was visiting with old friends, enjoying a beautiful summer night in the city. I wish this establishment many years of success. They deserve it. read more

We came here for brunch. Cool little corner spot with nice decor inside and cool patio for the warm days or nights. We didn't make any reservations and just showed around opening time. A few other parties showed up but remained for the most part empty. The service was ok. Our server was little pushy with the drinks though. We just wanted water and she was excited when that's all we wanted. "No drinks!?" She asked. We looked at the drinks but to be honest they weren't offering anything good. All they had was mimosas and a glass of juice, grapefruit, orange or pineapple. Where's the Bloody Marys or damn bloody Maria's with some Mezcal? Where are the aguas frescas, horchata, or some good Cafe de Olla coffee? We would have ordered any of those. Definitely some room for improvement when it comes to the drink options. As for the food, my wife ordered their chilaquiles verdes and I ordered their brunch burrito. The chilaquiles came with salsa verde, eggs, queso and avocado. At least that's what the menu said it would come with. They also put raw diced onions and cilantro which we didn't know about and my wife hates onions. My brunch burrito was good though. It came with chorizo con papas, eggs, avocado and crema. Breakfast burritos can be a hit or miss sometimes. This one was definitely a hit. Very flavorful and all the ingredients and construction of the burrito were executed perfectly. I can definitely see myself returning perhaps for dinner next time but I'll definitely be back. read more

Good flavors, so-so execution and service. Weekend brunch/lunch crowd is driven by bottomless mimosas. Raucous and loud inside (aforementioned mimosas.) Uncomfortable, cramped seating options that are too close to neighbors unless you're in a large group. Nowhere sensible to wait when you are on the list for a table. Unclear weekend hours-- are they open until 2 or 3?...contradictory entries online/door/website, etc. Staff was prompt at the beginning and then seemed to care a lot less when food was dropped (busy refilling mimosas.) Missed items in the order and needed to make additional requests. The food was very good (especially the Asada Fries) but not so good to trigger a return visit. Finally, we were presented with a payment device that only had the total amount and no itemized list. Paid it and only then was able to send the receipt to my phone to see the entire check and the associated fees and taxes. Hate that. Parking nearby is scarce and there is a car wash on the same block that screws up traffic with their line preventing parallel-parked cars to exit smoothly. read more

Stopped in on a weekday evening for a bite on the beautiful patio. Our server was really friendly and gave great recommendations, but the service was so slow, he didn't give us any water refills, plates, silverware or napkins. He also neglected to check on us after our food came out so we had to flag someone down to bring us cutlery so we could eat. I got the fish taco and chicken Nortenas. The fish taco was great, but a tad overcooked. The salsa that was served with it was amazing! The chicken Nortenas were also fantastic. They had everything you could want and were served with a different delicious salsa. I'd have asked for some hot sauce if our server came back but he didn't until he saw we were finished eating. I'm so glad we stumbled upon this spot while waiting for our reservation at PIZZ'AMICI around the corner. Nate and I sat out on the covered patio area and had a couple drinks and some ceviche. Our server was great with giving recommendations and explaining the menu and concept. I started with the yuzu drop, which was like a lemon drop martini, and Nate got the Cabo en Chicago (like a spicy margarita). We shared an order of the ceviche, which was very fresh, and had a bit of a kick. It's tomato based and gave me vibes of a spicy bloody Mary. I loved it! We had a second round of drinks - I loved the wanga tanga, which was a frozen drink that was like a passionfruit pina colada. Super delicious and dangerous! Cool lil spot I was not aware of until I did a brunch search as me and a good friend decided we would connect for a Saturday afternoon. Its about a 15 minute walk for me so not to bad a commute from West Loop to West Town. Love the colorful decor as it reminds me of places I sw and went to in Mexico City last year. There is a bar to your right when you walk in and then there is a slight indoor seating area and then their outdoor seating area. Brunch menu had some good stuff but I had my eye on the Diego Cali Burrito. Such a good choice and I enjoyed every bite of it! Fries, avocado, queso y crema is wrapped inside the tortilla along with your choice of meat in which I chose steak per the servers recommendation! Very good and came with a nice mildly spicy sauce. We did the $20 bottomless mimosa in which you have 3 different juices (Orange, pineapple and grapefruit). Stick with pineapple as the other juices were not very good...not sure what kinda juice they use but the orange and grapefruit wasnt hitting at all. I came here for the first time with the late-nite menu running, and not only is that enough to satisfy any hunger, it's also more than enough to encourage a return visit to sample the full spread. Sitting outside on the patio, in December, heaters and blankets on the seats made it more than comfortable for our group. Yes, you'll get a blast of cold when people go OUT out, and your feet may not be toasty, but other than that, you'll be fine. Chips, salsa, and guac are practically a requirement; and they excel here, each salsa distinct and delicious. I similarly had trouble deciding which taco (chicken vs beef) was my favorite, but the crispy shell on both was phenomenal. Burritos were banging, too. If you're indecisive or just not particular, order a few dishes and go family style with your dining companions. First time trying Diego for dinner yesterday. Got there early enough for the Friday happy hour so started with their chicken tacos which was the best thing we had. I had the chicken burrito and my partner had the steak quesadilla. He loved the quesadilla and thought the size was good. My burrito was good- the fries were just salty for my preference. Came here for Friday dinner to treat my parents. I was craving good Mexican and Diego's didn't disappoint. They seated 4 of us at the covered outside patio. It was a little chilly but not bad. We all kept our jackets on and eventually they turned on the patio heaters. We got the plantains that were combined with mascarpone cheese which was very different but tasty. We ate family style and ordered a bunch of dishes, the fish and shrimp tacos, chicken tostadas, the Cali veggie burrito, the shrimp burrito bowl. I tried all the dishes and everything was so unique and flavorful. It was a good flavor twist on the traditional Mexican dishes. Service was very good. Anyway, to Diego! We grabbed tacos at around 8pm on a Thursday. We didn't partake but they did have earlier happy hour specials. We just went with some tacos this time but in the future we would try a few more adventurous items. We went with: Steak tacos 5/5 - possibly the best I've had in the city Chicken tacos 4/5 - super solid but I never find chicken street tacos to be mind blowing Fish taco - 3/5, this one fell a little flat for me. What a cool little gem in the neighborhood. My girlfriend and I have driven past Diego's so many times. We recently stopped in after she discovered the price of the bottomless mimosas when she was looking for a place to host her fair-well brunch with her old co workers. We were a large party and the staff was as accommodating as they could be. We ordered an array of food from the brunch menu and everything was delicious. I've been here 3 times so far and each time has been great . The first time for brunch I had the chilaquiles and they were amazing , on another occasion we stopped for late night drinks and we had a mezcal margarita and a Mexican lunchbox . We went today again with our baby and the service was amazing !!! As parents of a 18mo that's very energetic we try to go to places were we can let him walk around safely , Diego has a small patio and I was very nervous about it but the staff was very understanding , they just asked us to make sure the pathways were clear. Everyone there was very ffriendly to my baby and as a mom that's something I truly appreciate. Another thing I absolutely loved this time around is that when trying to order food the waitress let us know the kitchen was a little backed up and it was going to take longer than usual. Our waitress also let us know what we could order that would take less time to prepare . When I asked about the fish and shrimp tacos, she recommended them, and I'm so glad she did. I recently discovered this restaurant through a friend. Diego is a "Baja Mediterranean street food inspired restaurant" per their website but it also has traditional food like chilaquiles for brunch or enchiladas for lunch and dinner, but the thing you want to try here-what they're know for- is the seafood tostadas. Oh my God! So delicious, so different than anything I've ever had before. I had the Tuna tostada and the Shrimp and Mac tostada both are yummy, a must try! My friend had the Mixta Tostada and the Tartar Tostada which were also great. We had bottomless mimosas for $20/person. The ambience was super chill/laid back.
