    chifa is a dark and moody restaurant that brings together two cultures through chifa cuisine, a…read morefusion of chinese and peruvian flavours that originated from the chinese immigrant community in peru. the menu is designed around sharing, with dishes meant to be enjoyed around the table. the space has a stylish, intimate feel, with dim lighting and a more dramatic atmosphere that sets the mood for an evening out. while the sharing concept is great for trying a variety of dishes, portions lean on the smaller side, so ordering a few extra plates is a good idea if you're dining with a group. we started with drinks, including the chicha morada, a refreshing purple corn juice with lime, and the maracuchita, a bright cocktail made with passion fruit, egg white, and lime juice. for food, we shared a selection of dishes: the empanadas (3), filled with beef, eggs, raisins, sweet and spicy sauce, and huancaina, were a limited quantity item, so availability can vary. the fried calamari was lightly battered and came with tartar sauce and pickling. the portion was on the smaller side, with a delicate coating that kept the calamari from feeling too heavy. the catch of the day ceviche was light, refreshing, and bright, featuring leche de tigre, onions, and pickling. it was one of the highlights of the meal, with clean flavours and a nice balance of acidity. the chi jau kaï chicken featured fried québec chicken with a pisco garlic reduction, mushrooms, aji amarillo, and steamed rice. the flavours were bold and layered, combining familiar chinese inspired techniques with peruvian ingredients. the chaufa especial (also available as a vegetarian option) was a fried rice dish with pork and chicken, green onions, and omelette. the wok hei added a nice smoky depth and gave the dish that characteristic fried rice flavour. while the food showcased the creativity behind chifa cuisine, the pacing of the meal could have been improved. service was slow, with noticeable gaps between dishes arriving at the table. at one point, someone in our group even had to check on the calamari order because of the wait. overall, chifa offers a unique dining experience with its blend of chinese and peruvian influences. the atmosphere is memorable, and the flavours are creative, but be prepared for a more leisurely meal and consider ordering generously if you're sharing with a group.
