I have worked with Paul and his team about five years, with my 1997 S500 and 2011 E350. He has done routine maintenance work and also more challenging projects (like replacing my engine for around $3K). He and his team do excellent work. His fees are reasonable (and rarely take my breadth away, a common problem with German luxury cars). My only concern is that he's often slow in finishing projects and deadlines tend to change. The shop is in a rather remote corner of Mountain View, but easily accessible from 101 and Shoreline. He was referred to me by Ed Pak, owner of the well-respected car mechanic shop, Mechanica. Ed had vast experience repairing cars but said that Mercedes Werkstatt would be able to fix more difficult problems (which Paul found to be routine). read more

I was going to write a review when I went to this place for service last year, but let it slide. I was just there today, and have to tell someone about these guys. Last year my car made horrible engine noises, and quit running. I towed it to Mercedes Werkstatt, and I just *knew* I had blown the engine, was going to need an entire rebuild. They called me the next day, said I had a cracked oil pan, and had fried a few gaskets and whatnot, but that the engine was fine. They could have ripped me off SO bad! But didn't. Today the problem was less dramatic, but the outcome was just as astounding. I was certain something was wrong with one of my brake calipers--squealing and chirping from one wheel when the brakes were applied, and tons of brake dust on that one wheel. I asked a couple of men friends who know cars, and they said yeah, don't let it go too long or you'll gouge up your rotor and have to replace that, too. So I was bracing for a several hundred dollar bill to be paid. This was not exactly in the budget. They ran the car up in the air, whacked on some of the undercarriage, felt it up, and said no, the brakes were in good condition. All four of them. They did not charge me for looking at it. I asked if they had a brand of oil they would recommend for my type of engine. Paul, the head honcho (can a German guy be a 'honcho"?) asked if my oil was low. I was not sure. He checked it, it was a quart short, and he had one of his assistants put in a quart of expensive synthetic oil. So I asked how much I owed for the oil. Paul waved me off. Can you believe this? I still can't. My usual experience with auto repair places is: I bring it in for a broken dome light, or some silly thing, and they tell me I need a new drive shaft and pistons or whatever, and by the way, get our extended warranty, and all this can be yours for a mere $4,300.00. The only downside I have discovered? These guys did *not* call in Martha Stewart to decorate their office and waiting room. Horrible horrors! I won't say more about that. An honest auto repair shop. I am beyond astonished. I AM grateful. read more

Paul seems very moody, temperamental with unpredictable erratic behavior. He seemed friendly and courteous during my initial visit, so therefore, I scheduled an appointment with him. During my actual repairing visit, Paul first said the praises I made complimenting him as an honest mechanic did not work with him, it only worked in my part of the world, (Is he being racist?) Then he said I was pressuring him by hanging around his repair facility, I did not schedule a ride so I had to stay behind waiting for my repair work done. Lastly, to my biggest surprise, Paul referred to my own personal belongings as "sh*t" when he said "you go get all you sh*t together and leave!" I really do wish I had not made my repair appointment with Paul and not understand what is wrong with him. I only can recommend you not to visit him for your car repairs! read more

This place is awesome! The really knows Mercedes inside out. I had a water spill into the gear shift, the car then becomes hard to shift. Two mechanics shop told me that it'll cost ~ $1k to change the gear shift box, which I am a bit hesitate as the car is a 2001 CLK430. At 1st, Paul, the owner is very accommodating on the schedule. Then the cool Neil, just diagnosis quietly, & in ` 20 mins, he fixed it all by just resting the circuit. In the end, they do not even want to charge me!!! As an engineer with a Ph.D degree, I can only say they know their work VERY WELL, which makes a day & night difference. Highly recommend if you owns a Mercedes!!! read more

Paul and Neil are there real deal. Bought a use 92 300TE wagon in 2000 and the cars still running like it was new. Had found them in 97 with a previous wagon my son had driven into a ravine up Old La Hhonda Rd. Best car ever build and the guys to keep it running. They know me better than my doctor. If the thought of taking your MCB to the dealership to chat with a "service consultant" strikes fear into your heart then take your Mercedes to Mercedes Werkstatt in Mountain View. Paul and Neil are MECHANICS and they know Mercedes Benz inside and out. No coffee, no donuts, no current newspapers, no Musac, no unnecessary overhead, no uniforms (OK, blue t-shirts) Simply Mercedes repairs at a reasonable cost. Numerous times over the last nine years I have called them with a problem and they took care of it the same day. In anticipation of a "road trip" I once asked Paul and Neil to take a look at the car just to make sure everything was in good working order. When I picked the car up later in the day I asked Paul "How Much?" His reply, "No charge. I didn't need to do anything." Believe me, it's good to know a MECHANIC, as opposed to a "service technician". read more

Paul helped my little brother out with his CLK430. Very upfront guy who wont try to sell you something you dont need. The car had a slight front end collision which damaged the radiator and hit the alternator. We dropped the car off really last minute but Paul was still game to fix the car. His lot is pretty big so he can most definitely find a place for you to park your car until it can get fixed. Estimated time to fix was about 5 days, even after our last minute drop off. Good solid work for a reasonable price. read more

I had to take a moment to write a review for the Mercedes Workstatt. Three years ago, I trusted Paul and Neil to repair a few mechanical problems on my 1971 280SL. This was my second or third visit to them...so, I knew I could trust them. I asked them if they could keep the car for a few months while we finished a construction project and they happily agreed. Little did they know, the project expanded and the time frame of a few months became THREE YEARS. Never once did Paul or Neil pressure me to get the car when I would call to check in. Instead, they simply told me "...it's here, do not worry about it." I was able to pick up the car yesterday and they had it ready to go and went as far as to wash it for me. In addition to keeping the car running well, they have offered to help me find a body shop to have the car painted. They genuinely cares about this car. I find their work very reliable and a good value. They help me take car of this vintage car and knowing I can trust them is the best part of doing business with them. read more

Paul will always tell you what's wrong, what's no big deal, what needs immediate attention, what will wait for a month, or a year. I will stop in for a little adjustment or a question, and if I'm on my way out of town, they will just tack it on the next bill, and usually at far less than I expected.
