They Inspected vehicle due to high idle condition and rough engine operation during cold starts. Also checked for hose leaks. Removed air intake components and thoroughly cleaned throttle body, including throttle plate and bore, to remove accumulated carbon deposits and oil residue that can restrict airflow and affect idle quality. It's about time I post this review. If I could rate six stars, I would. My 1992 Lexus ES300 was in the care of Tony and Simon for several months last year, and it was a big job. I dropped it off with the assumption that it had a blown head gasket and just needed new heads, but it actually ended up needing an entirely new engine and transmission once they opened everything up and saw how bad it was (every crevice of the engine was gummed up). I sourced both a replacement engine and transmission and had them rebuild and install it for me, along with a few other minor things that needed attention. Tony and Simon are absolute professionals with a level of patience and kindness I have almost never seen before in mechanics. They are not salesmen; they are actual mechanics with total integrity and pride in their work. They never hustled me for money, they never rushed me, they never tried to upsell or charge me more for anything, and they kept my car parked inside the whole time. They actually gave me an amazing deal on the labor too, and they never even asked me to post this review (I just decided to by myself). My car has been running like a dream, and it's still under their warranty so I can rest assured it'll be fine. The TL;DR - SLT Auto Repair would have tried installing an incompatible replacement transmission into my car, except they forgot to actually order the part in the first place, and didn't realize it until I showed up for our appointment. The full story - I have a 2017 Toyota Sienna that needed its transmission replaced. SLT Auto said they had found a used one for a reasonable price, we ordered it and made an appointment to bring the car in a couple of weeks later. The afternoon before, I called to confirm that we were still on schedule only to be told (by Tony, I think) that the transmission had been dropped and dented and could not be used anymore. It would have been nice to have been told this as soon as it happened, not just because I happened to call in. They said they would look around for replacements and call me back. No one did, until I called back the following Friday to check. This time I spoke to Simon, who said they had another transmission with about the same mileage available, and they could order it the next day and have it ready to install Tuesday AM (they are closed Monday). I found it improbable that their vendor would have two used transmissions available when from shopping around, they seemed hard to come by. But I went ahead and said okay, let's do this Tuesday morning, but please do call me if the transmission does not come in. Tuesday morning at opening I am standing in line, but when I talk to Tony he seems surprised that I am there. The transmission is NOT there, but of course no one told me. They call the vendor, I don't know if it's to see why it hasn't arrived or to try to order it in the first place, but after some discussion they come back and say wait, this transmission is not compatible with my model of Sienna. What a complete, utter waste of time and money. After the initial transmission snafu I should have just walked away, now at least I've learned my lesson to avoid SLT auto at all costs. read more

A few weeks ago, my car had an issue with the breaks (VSC and ABS warnings) and a fluid leak that needed urgent attention. I live around Berkeley, but the issue took place in Sunnyvale. I was horrified that my car breaks could fail at any time, but I took it into SLT Auto Repair, and Tony and Simon got to work on the diagnostic. I left my car with them to repair, and Tony sent me regular updates. SLT doesn't fix cars with old parts. They only use new parts ordered directly from Toyota/Lexus, but their price point is significantly lower than going to the dealership (and their service was just as good). Although used parts auto repair shops might be cheaper, used parts are going to be a lot more unreliable and will break down sooner. I messaged Tony on Monday 6/22 regarding what I thought was going to be a full brake pad and rotor replacement. I use my car every day and have a hectic schedule, and to be honest, just let my brake pads go WAY too long without replacing them. My car was making horrific grinding/scraping noises to where I couldn't just "turn the music up to ignore it" (if all you people on a budget know what I mean lol) and I was truly terrified that I had just ruined them. Anyway, Tony replied immediately and said he could see me Wednesday morning. I had a huge trip to leave for on Thursday morning and was worried I'd be without a car, so this was a great relief. I showed up and he inspected my brakes, and even took the time to show me my brake pads and used a brand new pad as a comparison so I could see the difference. He explained that we would replace the back pads and rotors, and just resurface the front rotors while replacing the pads. I was so relieved to hear this because replacing anything in my car is always an expense I feel like I'm never ready for. He quoted me a very reasonable price of $530 for the work on my 2014 Ford Escape. Tony let me know that I could pick it up by 5:30pm, and to my pleasant surprise, he called me at 4pm letting me know it was ready for pick up! Upon pick up, Tony had laid out my old brake pads and rotors so I could get an even better view at how they looked before the work was done. I truly appreciated that, as I'm just not a car person and honestly wouldn't have known unless he did so. 100% would recommend going here, and will be a returning customer for my future auto repairs. SLT was able to do an oil change, check my alignment, and perform a full inspection determining that I should get new brake pads (which I suspected but forgot to tell them!). They quickly called me, explained the situation, exact cost, and asked for authorization to do a same day purchase of genuine Toyota parts from their supplier. By some miracle they were able to procure the parts the same day and finish the entire job with brake flush in a few hours. 100% satisfied with the work Tony did on our 4Runner. I was referred to him through my cousin and I was hesitant to bring our Runner to anyone and the dealer has been trying to upsell services on our recent visits. I told Tony about how I took our Runner to the dealer for all services and he mentioned that he left his long time position as a Master Mechanic from Toyota. I felt less worried at that point knowing it's similar service I'm getting. Basically, we got our 35K service done with all OEM fluids and parts (a big plus). He also mentioned he specializes and is cerified in hybrid repair/service. I saw several Prius' there and asked if he was able to work on Lexus CT and he replied yes (I know its same brand as Toyota but had to ask). We need the battery serviced on ours and will be bringing it next week. I inherited a 06 tundra. I was driving back to the Bay Area and had very little power. I researched places on Yelp and have Tony a call. I dropped it off and 2 hrs later got a call back, that after test drive it was the weathertec floormat that was impeding the accelerator. Talk about facepalm! Tony was super nice - wasn't going to charge much of at all. I asked if he could squeeze in an oil change and he made it happen same day. I went in search for an alternate repair shop for my Toyota Prius as I was finally fed up with the long waits, high costs, and constant up-selling of services at a Toyota dealership. I found my new repair shop at SLT Auto Repair. At SLT, I was given excellent service at a reasonable price by Tony, a former senior Toyota dealership technician. The two things I needed this time around were a MillerCAT catalytic converter shield and a transmission fluid change. For the shield, I called five different places. Tony at SLT gave me the most informed answers and quoted the best price. He has the MillerCAT shield in stock and has installed many in the past. For the transmission fluid change, I was charged less than half the price quoted by the dealership. Instead of waiting all day to get my car back at the dealership, Tony completed the work in an hour and a half. I am very happy with both the catalytic converter shield install as well as the transmission fluid change. In addition to being skillful, efficient and reasonably priced, Tony is pleasant and easy to talk to. Talking to Tony about my car was a breath of fresh air compared to talking to the dealership service rep.
