The office staff was professional, communication was good, and the shop was clean. In addition to changing my oil, they did a detailed overall inspection, which included a battery stress test, engine, brakes, and undercarriage. The full report, which included photos, was emailed to me and I was impressed by how comprehensive it was. If you just need an oil change and can do the minor maintenance and inspections yourself, then it will be a bit pricy at this shop (~$170). However, if you want someone else to do all that, it would be cheaper than a dealership. read more

I brought my older BMW 5 Series to Stress-Free Auto Care after it developed a misfire. I explained that I had experienced the same symptoms before and that replacing the affected spark plugs and ignition coils had resolved the issue. The shop replaced one spark plug and two coils, which initially stopped the misfire. However, the same symptoms returned only two or three days later. I called and asked them to check whether the newly installed parts were still working properly. I wasn't asking them to solve every other issue with this older car for free--only to verify their recent work before recommending additional repairs. Instead, I was told that the parts may be covered by warranty, but the labor to inspect or replace them would not be. They also emphasized that I had declined their full diagnostic service, which I recall costing approximately $300-$400. I understand that proper diagnosis has a cost, but when the same problem returns within days of an $800 repair, I expect the shop to take some ownership and at least inspect its recent work without immediately adding more charges. For comparison, I previously had all six spark plugs and coils replaced elsewhere for around $1,000. Here, replacing one plug and two coils has already cost approximately $800, and I could easily spend another $1,000 without knowing whether the underlying problem will be resolved. Based on my experience, this shop may be suitable for routine services such as oil changes. However, I would not recommend it for complicated or uncertain mechanical problems. The costs can add up quickly, and I did not feel there was enough accountability, transparency, or customer support after the original repair failed to provide a lasting solution. Quick review as all I came in for was an oil change, but overall a greet auto shop! They seem fairly new but they provide great service and I believe an introductory offer for a full diagnosis of your vehicle when you take it in. The process was pretty quick and the shop was very responsive and even though I did not elect to get additional work done, (I can do a lot of the regular maintenance stuff myself, really just wanted the diagnostic) I appreciated the constant updates on the work getting done, making it a very "stress-free" experience. Seems good. but it's getting really expensive. $247 for an oil change, tire rotation (I hope they did it), and engine air filter. They do have snacks, coffee and tea, and water available. The shop was very accommodating and tries to make getting your tire changed out and they are organized. I was wondering input getting to work and had to take Ubers back and forth. They have a courtesy car but it was out. My co-worker had it in the employee parking lot ! They are very responsive. They had to special order my tire which was only a day and the price was a little less than last time I had a tire replaced. I took my car in due to a stalling issues and unknown electrical problems. Nick and his team did a fantastic job getting everything diagnosed and fixed, and they even called me a Lyft back home while they worked on the car (I believe the ride limit was up to $15 which ended up being fully covered in my case). In terms of price, I'd say it is about average for what you'd expect out of a good repair shop - they worked on my car a full day and the whole thing ended up being around $1K total. I'll be honest--I chose this place because of the name Stress-Free Auto, but overall my experience turned out to be more stressful than I expected. On the positive side, I appreciated the transparency, the clean environment, and how easy it was to communicate through text and get updates. I also really liked the convenience of being able to get my car in quickly and have it ready the same day. I like that they showed the full cost breakdown. That said, I did feel like they could easily take advantage of someone who doesn't know much about cars. It also gave me the impression that they might lead customers into paying for services they don't necessarily need. Because they didn't have the full history of my car, it seemed like they could have easily recommended THOUSANDS of dollars of work that might not have actually been necessary. Even for a simple oil change, I ended up spending more than I had anticipated. Overall, while there were things I liked, the experience left me with mixed feelings. I love that you can kinda see what the fee will be (estimate) I made the appointment online everything was seamless. I went in the two gentleman were so friendly and they checked me in. Even offered me a Lyft. I was just there to get my car assessed. They found some issues that may be causing the noise. I wasn't ready to get the work done and they totally understood and didn't pressure me or anything! I have to say I have mixed experiences with my brake pad/rotor services... One of the new brake system installed have had problems like constant grinding noise, reversely installed brake pad (yes i did not make this up) and brake pad that making clicking sound whenever I press brake for the 1st time after changing gear (this turns out to be the pad installed is a bit smaller in size and not tightly fitting into the system). I went back to the shop 3 times over the course of ~9 months, each time discovering some issues and replacing the pad/disk (this is where i felt good about the shop, everyone welcomed me back and did the diagnose and replacement for free). I end up relacing the two front pad/disk with another brand (zimmerman? that's what i heard) and resolved all issues. Maybe I just got unlucky, but I have to leave my honest and true experience which exhausts me over the last year (imagine every time you back out of your garage and hearing this "click" sound from your brake system, with a baby in a car. You natually worries about your safety). read more

Our 2017 Honda Civic was bottoming out on the cracks in the freeway, after driving over deep potholes in Lake Tahoe back roads. 6/19/23 took it to Stress-Free, and they diagnosed the problem as leaking shock absorbers, showing me pictures of the problem. $600 for 2 new shocks for a car with only 21,820 miles? Could not blame the pot holes for all the problem, as we bought this car as a demo back in 2018 with 6500 miles, and you know how customers take it out on loaners by driving nonstop over speed bumps. Driving home from Thanksgiving, my 2017 Honda Fit was bottoming out on cracks in the freeway. Two new shocks needed? Took it to Stress-Free, and they diagnosed the problem as only pins falling out holding the underpan on the engine cover. It would periodically scrape the bottom when traveling at speed. $122.50 to fix the loose skid plate. Tossed in the $113.20 oil change, and $64.60 wiper blades. Free multi-point digital inspection during all visits. And they told me I didn't need a new battery despite the battery being 7 years old. They take pictures of all potential problem areas. Only problem I've had with this place is finding a place to park. Only 10 full size parking spots, and 7 of them filled by overnighters when they open at 8am. It was great to get my car in quickly, help with the inspection, and even the offer to drive me home or give me $15 for an Uber. There are a couple problems. First is that other Yelp auto shops messaged me and offered to do an alignment for $150 or lower (I have Tesla Model 3), while Stress-Free charged me $250. Second, they were going to make sure the suspension wasn't off first before doing the alignment to make sure it wasn't the problem. They didn't. They did the alignment and I still have the same problems. On the bright side, they were very friendly to help in every other sense. Grateful for that. read more

I had to bring my car to the Mountain View location, where the staff confirmed that the Sunnyvale technician had added an extra quart of oil. Thankfully, they were able to fix the issue. This experience was frustrating and deeply disappointing. I understand that for some, this might just be a job; but when you're working on someone's vehicle, that responsibility must be taken seriously. I wanted to share my experience so others can make an informed decision. After my check engine light came on, I called Stress Free Auto Care in Sunnyvale to get a quote. I was quoted around $160 for an oil change and approximately $350 for a check engine light diagnostic, not including whatever repairs might be needed afterward. The total felt pretty high, so I decided to shop around before committing. I'm really glad I did. After calling a few other local shops, I was able to get all the same services done for $230 total, including the oil change and diagnosing the check engine light. I can't speak to the quality of Stress Free Auto Care's work since I didn't move forward with them, but based on my experience getting a quote, I'd strongly recommend that others compare prices before deciding. I had my timing belt and water pump replaced by this shop. They charged me almost $2,000. What bothers me is they did not replace the coolant lost during the repair. Being mechanically inclined, I do my due diligence when it comes to maintenance, so, I checked my coolant reservoir. It was empty. I called, deaf ears answered the phone. I complained via text message and was told they bought and used coolant to replace what was lost. That is a lie. They added zero coolant and that's a recipe for disaster. Aluminum heads and blocks don't take kindly to too much heat. They tend to warp. read more

I went to get an alignment here. They charge much more than other places but it was a convenient place for me to go. Last time I'm going here as not only I had to come back 3 times for my car to run straight(they couldn't hold the steering wheel straight when doing the alignment somehow), they left a steering rack bolt loose which could have cause a serious accident. This February the car had a a coolant level low light and this location made full diagnosis and replaced the water pump cost $1410. However, last week the car got another coolant low level light and the estimate is now over $1600. The water pump replaced in Feb also got replaced in August 2024 in Stevens Creek Dealership under factory warranty, my wife didn't ask why the water pump got replaced again just over a year new. read more
