This hotel is centrally located in Old Rome just minutes from the Colosseum. We had an excellent view of it from the rooftop pool but chose not to pay the extra rate for a view room. It wasn't really worth it anyway after having seen it. Check in was quick, though our room wasn't ready for several hours as we arrived early and could not be accommodated. The front desk staff are friendly and kind. The elevators are small so you can't fit many people with luggage in them, but they run quickly and efficiently. The rooms vary in size - we had a standard double room which had a queen sized bed, desk, mini fridge, TV, closet and luggage storage. The bathroom had a toilet, separate bidet, shower and sink with a small very low countertop. The shower is a rain shower and they do not provide shower caps so come prepared if you skip hair washes. There is a separate wand to account for that. They only provide a single hair/body wash in the shower so bring your conditioner if you use it. Water pressure left a lot to be desired, but the temperature was nice and hot. The bed was comfy enough and the wifi was strong throughout the entire hotel. AC in our room was plenty strong. You have to keep a key card in the slot for the electrical in the room to function like most hotels do these days. Someone complained in a previous review about lack of AC so that might be why. There is a rooftop pool overlooking the Colosseum. Summer hours are 11am-8pm. I wish it stayed open later and had adults only hours. Kids were obnoxiously splashing around in the merely 3' of water and parents couldn't be bothered to ensure they weren't bothering others. We did not eat or drink at the rooftop bar. The prices were insane and there are so many great cafes in walking distance. The hotel is also maybe a 10 minute walk to the nearest Metro station and very close to a Hop On Hop Off stop. We walked all over Old Town Rome and got to see so many amazing things. Would definitely book this hotel for our next stay in Rome! read more

The breakfast went down hill, I don't like the coffee machines the ggs tastes like garbage. Bacon isn't cooked and the rest I wouldn't feed to my dog. The pool is not open at 8 am and it's already 85 degrees. But the staff is very helpful and great, the rooms are very nice. Housekeeping could be better. read more

Nice hotel a 5 minute walk from the Colosseum. They let us check in early. I would recommend a room with Colosseum view. The rooms were clean. Amenities around the hotel are sparse. One star deducted for having no AC. Even leaving the windows open left the room pretty warm. read more

I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. We booked it well in advance and got a very good rate, so if you plan ahead - it can also be very affordable! We were two travelers (married couple) sharing one bed and booked a Superior Double room. Itwas the perfect size for our needs - not a ton of room for extra movement, but we didn't need all that! Just a very big comfortable bed, a closet and small fridge, a desk and side tables, and then a nice bathroom with an enclosed shower. I had read reviews that the bathrooms were too small and the toilet too close to the shower, but we did not experience anything negative in that regard. The hotel itself is very modern, clean, and literally a five minute walk to the Colosseum. This can be a great jumping off point for hop-on/hop-off tours. If you go to the hotel's rooftop pool, you can actually see the Colosseum while you swim! The staff is top notch. We arrived late and the front desk crew were there to greet us with lots of info and answer any questions we had. The late night crew was wonderful, booking our early morning departure taxi for us, and even offering to give us a wake up call to make sure we woke up that early and didn't miss our taxi/flight. As I said, it can be a bit pricey if you don't book far enough in advance, but if you plan ahead (we booked about 4 months out), you can get a great rate at a wonderful hotel in a superb location! read more

It's a nice little hotel. Great location. Nothing fancy but it's modern and the staff is friendly and helpful. It's often possible to get amazingly good rates, especially off season. The restaurant/bar is nice, with courteous bartenders who make good cocktails. Breakfast was good, although the eggs were lukewarm. Was profiled today after coming back from a long day at the museum, colosseum, and Roman forum and went to the small room before you get to the elevator, took a pic of the statue. We booked at Mercure based on great reviews and ratings on Trip Advisor, among other sites. It ended up being okay. Just Okay. Could have been worse. Could have been better. Pros: - Literally a 3 minute walk to the Colosseum! It was great to be able to see this marvel literally every day of our trip! - Front Desk staff was fantastic! All very friendly and helpful. They were great with tips on where to eat, when and what to see, and even ways of getting around town cheaper and more efficiently. - free wifi all over - 10 to 15 minute walk to underground train, which made it easy to get around to other areas of the city. - housekeeping was awesome this trip. Cons: - man, that area sucks for food options! There are restaurants in walking distance, but none that were in any way memorable. We had several bad experiences in restaurants in this area. There was only 1 store to buy snacks and whatnot, but even it was a bit of a walk from the hotel. Bad area to stay in overall. - no vending or ice machines in the hotel...at all. Seriously?? Ugh. A machine with some overpriced snacks and drinks would be great for those of us who don't feel like walking to the store in the freezing weather. - No English speaking channels except for news. Seriously, after 6 nights of CNN I was losing it. Even Mexico had 1 or 2 English speaking movie channels and ESPN. - fridge is wayyyy too small to make it even slightly useful. I got a great price on this room but you truly get what you pay for. Next time in Rome, I would book near the Pantheon or Trevi Fountain area and pay a little more for a better arrangement. I LOVE the location. It's so close to the Colosseo and great walkable areas. The rooftop bar is really great along with the rooftop swimming pool. It's by a nice park and I loved the area for running. Now, that rooftop pool is unheated! Which I'm sure is fabulous for the hot summers. It was quite chilly at the end of April for my triathlon practice (I also decided it was prepping me for the lake I'll be swimming in!). The doors could use some more sound proofing as I could hear all the maids in the am and really wanted to just keep sleeping. Sadly, the bar closes at midnight. read more

It sounds like not everyone's stay was what they expected, but ours was exactly as anticipated. I thought for the value it was a very nice, modern, clean room and hotel. The staff we corresponded with were wonderful. We arrived in the morning, well before checkin time, and they were able to actually check us in early which was so amazing. We had an afternoon tour so it was a relief to have a room to rest a bit before we headed to the Colosseum. The proximity to the Colosseum was wonderful as well and we enjoyed walking to the Colosseum every night during our stay. When I wanted to confirm directions to the Vatican, the girl at the desk was very sweet and helpful. The staff also helped us correspond with our departing transportation to the airport, which made everything seamless. Our stay was booked through Costco Travel so it included an appetizer at the roof bar and a cocktail. The server at the bar did not speak English (which was only weird because everywhere we went in Italy during our trip, even little souvenir kiosks, the employees all seemed to know some basic words), so we got a little lost in translation when we were ordering our comp drink and app. but it got worked out. With that said my cocktail was good, and the app had smoked salmon which is a great way to win me over :) The breakfast was good enough, and I thought the staff were very hospitable. There were several great restaurants in walking distance, and the nightlife near Ludus Magnus looked very popular (we were too exhausted to check it all out, but I could tell people were raging over there). We arrived here by train after 2 hours from Florence. The taxi driver took us at the street corner and pointed in direction to hotel. Upon arrival, the hotel desk was able to check us in and we went to our room 601. The room layout was pretty nice with living room at the entrance. To the left was the shower and sink and to the right was bedroom and then a bathroom with a sink as well. The bedroom could be closed off from the living room with pocket sliding door. The shower didn't close off from the living room. So, if the shower door was not closed well, then the water leaked from the tile floor onto the carpeted living room. The bedroom was decent size with king bed. There was desk in front which was nice too. The bathroom was standard with some counter space. The sink by the shower was tight but it did have a hairdryer which was convenient. There was a mini fridge in the living room which made it convenient to store water and some fruits. For breakfast, we were able to enjoy the buffet during our stay. Also, there was a top floor deck with pool (not recommended for swimming) as well as seating to enjoy the view of the Coliseum. The front desk lobby was very helpful to reserve our timed admission for the Borghese Gallery. Also, they were able to get a taxi quickly so we would not be late. Also, they were able to print our boarding pass tickets for Air France and Delta flights back home which saved us from waiting in line at 4AM in the morning for baggage check-in. I couldn't have anything bad to say about the service which gave us great recommendations to eat as well as visit sights around Rome. Location was perfect being within walking distance to nearest bus and subway lines. The only thing that bothered my wife was the city noise but can't do anything about it. Plus, the ventilation was an issue but we just left the windows open. read more

Even though Located about a five minute walk away from the Colosseum, This Mercure Hotel was a great disappointment. It backed up to a large park that housed many illicit activities. I did not feel safe walking around the hotel. While many big city hotels are able to shield their guests from their surrounding areas, this hotel made no such attempt. -I woke up for early morning tours to find hallways darkened to save electricity. -the window to my room had a view of a homeless man's tent. While he was in the public park, the hotel allows the homeless to use their alleyways freely. -this alleyway had a spiral staircase which led up to many rooms including the one I stayed in. To prevent the homeless from accessing the rooms, they were permanently locked with bars. You can still see within your room where the hotel took off the fire exit sign. Very unsafe in case of emergencies. The hotel also has many service issues which clearly make it an Economy/Base Hotel rather than a higher class hotel that they advertise: -when asking for a bucket of ice, I was directed to the top floor bar and told to get it on my own. Once at the top bar, the staff said they can only give about two glasses worth -room service consists of four entrees only, all re-heated items from what the staff told me. They recommended that I leave the hotel for decent food. -when arriving, we only had one towel. When I asked the hotel staff for more, a representative from the front desk came up with them, but insisted on coming in the room to see for herself that not enough towels were there. I advise that you do not frequent this hotel. read more

ROOMS: are very tiny. - There were no drawers to put your clothes in and there isn't room for drawers either. We were given 5 hangers. - There is a safe in the room. - Bathrooms are very small and you have to close to the door to fit inside. They have a toilet and Bidet. The sink is horribly designed. I'm 5'5 and the sink comes to my thigh/waist. The countertop to the bathroom sink comes to my knees. It is a very short sink and you have to bend down far to use it. -water had hot and cold -air tempt has limits and we were hot at night. - no free water bottles. There is a small market literally across the street on same side of hotel to buy drinks/snacks. NEARBY: -Metro is about 0.5 miles away. If you have the Roma Pass, you can ride for free. - colosseum is very close. Walking distance. If you have the Roma Pass, enter in the GROUPS line and you won't have to wait in line. - try Clementini restaurant. Amazing food, about 1-2 blocks away. Isadoro was good but ran out of many good dishes by 10pm. NO GYM :( RESTAURANT: food was delicious for dinner. The breakfast buffet has an assortment of cheeses, ham, bacon, sausage, eggs, pancakes, lots of bread, yogurt and fruit. At first we thought the breakfast was amazing, but after 2 days it got old fast and we were tired of eating it. Food also runs out around 10am, and they were in no hurry to refill anything. GOING TO THE VATICAN? Buy tickets online $17€ PER PERSON + $4€ online service fee. Have hotel print it for you for free. If you didn't get the email confirmation with ticket, go back on Vatican website and click on the "status of ticket" and enter your confirmation code to resend ticket. Bring paper ticket with you to the Vatican. We took the Metro which was easy with Roma Pass. Once at the Vatican, you will go upstairs and exchange your paper printed ticket for a real ticket at the machines prior to the entrance line. All you have to do is scan the barcode into the machine. COLOSSEUM? no long wait if you have the Roma Pass. Free entrance with Pass. ROMA PASS? Buy at the airport on the way out, or across the street from colosseum. Good for 48hr or 72hrs. Good points very close to the colosseum, within walking distance to lots of places to eat, beautiful view from the roof pool/bar. Bad points - rooms are very small, water pressure is nonexistent, none of the staff appears to have authority or access to resolve problems. Included breakfast is okay, maybe I was spoiled from the spread at the two previous hotels... my wife thought the eggs might have been from a mix. Our story - the first morning the shower started to back up into the bathroom then into the room. We did our best to clean it up and reported it immediately then left for the day. When we got back our room smelled horrible and the floor was still wet, but the room had been made up. I needed my laptop for work and the safe would not open. They sent to people who immediately put in a master code from memory, which made me uncomfortable, then banged on it for ten minutes and then said they could not open till the next day. Someone else came to spray something for the smell but did nothing to address the wet floor. The new smell made my wife feel ill. They said they would move us to another room the following day. The next day they opened the safe with a master key, and moved our room. As soon as we get in the new room the sink backs up with chunks of stuff. I almost just gagged writing that. Another small thing was that they gave us a drink voucher, that did not show any restrictions on it, when we first arrived and we showed it to the rooftop bartender. Then we ordered and drank and then she refused it and said the drinks we ordered were not included. Would have given them 1 star but that view is amazing! read more

Disappointing. I selected this hotel because of location and the swimming pool...the pool closes at 7pm!! Most of the places to visit close at 6pm, then you want go to the pool... Rooms are very small and elevator is super slow. Room service very limited and the service takes really long. And for non-smokers, get ready because everyone smokes even during breakfast at the terrace-annoying. ATTENTION: I requested a taxi and the reception called a private car which was a horrible experience. The driver went at 150km/h, yelling on the phone without BT, and the car was a real ashtray!!. The license plate was DN 638HY, Mercedes. One good point, employees are kind/friendly and try to help. Internet ok, you have to login several times...but ok. read more

Terrible from the start. I'm only giving it two stars because the front desk staff are good and helpful. The breakfast wasn't great, then on our last morning we were told we had to pay for it! What? I paid for three nights and should get three breakfasts. The room was small and not very clean,I found items under my bed upon checkout making sure I had everything. The upstairs bar area, I was told twice it was a limited menu but looked around and people were eating all sorts of items. They were a bit rude about it. It's a weird place ! To top it all off, we were taking a nap about 3pm and a maid walked right in! Totally creeped us out. It was the breakfast thing that sent me I see over the edge. Total crap!! The room, visually, was very pretty. The view was amazing. The location cannot be beat. I stayed here 12 nights. Now let's talk about the details. The view was as promised from the left side of the building, when standing in front facing the hotel. I was lucky enough to get a hotel room on that side with the Colosseo. There are several busses that come directly in front of the hotel every 5-10 minutes (during run time - not 24/7) that will take you every direction. You can also access the main tourist information office in front of the Colosseo and the metro station for the Colosseo within a 5 minute walk. Labicana is a very busy street, but of course one should expect this from being in the main tourist section of the city. Therefore I found that other review referencing a poor nights sleep due to traffic not helpful. The staff was nice but not all spoke enough English for me to recommend this hotel for anyone unfamiliar with preferably Italian or several years of Spanish or Latin... I should clarify this - while the staff will only understand in mostly Italian and some staff in English, you can understand the staff if you speak Spanish or Latin because Italian is similar. The rooms have fresh paint, new/well taken care of curtains, gorgeous fixtures such as the painting, and seem very clean. The pictures show an accurate representation. The cleaning lady comes every day . The room lacks drawers to put anything in. THE BED IS THE MOST AWFUL BED IVE EVER SLEPT ON IN MY LIFE. It is old, there is no support. I sleep on a form matress with a topper at home, so hardness only was not why I say this. I am NOT a finicky or light sleeper however if I was lucky enough to sleep through the night my back hurt unbelievably so (I am 28 w no history of back issues). Many nights I was up by 3 or 4 a.m. because I just could not sleep anymore. I attempted to sleep on the floor but since there's no padding under the carpet that was out of the question as well. The walls are paper thin. I say this because I could hear every word my neighbor room was saying. They would come in between midnight and 1am nightly. As I said I'm not a light sleeper so they only woke me up once because he was smoking inside the room and it was coming from my vent. The breakfast is not worth 16 euro, compared to the rest of the country I cannot explain how poor the food was. There are several restaurants across the street however the lack of a proper bar (the bars in Rome are where you get coffee and pastries - alcoholic bars are called "american bars" - funny to us yes) very close does not give you very many options for breakfast. I got this hotel in amazing deal of less than $400 however there sign says they rent for almost 100 euro a night which is about $128 right now. I personally could not imagine having paid that amount for the bed and not having breakfast included. I understand the place is tied extremely much to be location. However the hotel Borromeo is very close to here on Cavour (stayed in 2013 - currently $145 nightly) and if distance doesnt scare you the hotel San Francesco (stayed 2012 - currently $185 nightly) is in the Trastevere. Both have just as amazing transportation and close restaurant options with better breakfast (included in price) and better beds, less traffic in Trastevere, and better bars in Cavour. I dont mean this to advertise, but as I well versed European-Roma traveller I felt I should mention these I have experience with. read more

Suprise surprise this place only had 2.5 stars on yelp! Want to know why?? Cause they have the WORST customer services ever!!! My husband had hit his head on the door that goes slow at first but be careful cause it goes fast when it's about to close. No one really cared at the hotel that he split his forehead open!!!!! He requires stitches but guess what, they really didn't care. Not only did that happen the next day all we wanted was 2 wine glasses to enjoy the night and MARICIO "the bar manager" refused!!! My party already spent so much money at the bar and he was so rude to us!!! Refused to give glasses to us when the night before a "girl" from our party got some. Not only that MARICO was the one who went to the room and seen what happened to my husband! you would think he would be compassionate enough to give 2 glasses to us!!! i am outraged. outraged i say. they refused to make up my room, even when i asked politely. also, there was a stain on my bed. it was not mine. i promise you that. let me paint you a picture. it was yellow with a red line through it. what was that?!?! disgusting!!!!! another thing. the chairs in the rooms are unsafe and a complete health hazard. my husband (yes i have a husband, it's 2017, hashtag y o l o) fell backwards and smacked his head on the table. poor man! i tripped over the carpet. safe doors - more like "un-safe doors" - i hit my head when i stood up. rooms are not soundproof, could hear neighbours having sex next door, i was thoroughly repulsed. outraged again!!! read more
