If I could give zero stars I would. It's 6 pm and my husband and I just tried to sit down here for dinner. It's a Friday night so we expected a long wait time. The hostess very rudely flat out said "we won't be able to accommodate you tonight, you should have made a reservation." I've never been told something like this in my life. The people in front of us also didn't have reservations and they were given a table immediately. I will never be coming back here and I will be telling everyone I know to avoid. read more

Most of the items I have tried thus far have been delicious. Personally, I would recommend sticking with the margherita if you are looking to order pizza. The eggplant pie is tasty as well as unique, but not my favorite. Bianca is good for a pie without sauce, but it lacks the acidity of the tomato sauce and the tomatoes on top of the pie do not make up the acidity deficit. Could have been more basil as well, but overall it was tasty. The surprising star of the menu is the panini. It came with a small side salad and was delicious! The eggplant and ricotta cheese of the melanzana were deliciously blended and perfectly balanced. The eggplant was not tough nor overly soft, it was perfect. I have only tried one gelato flavor thus far: molten lava cake. It was tasty but overly sweet in my opinion. Next time, I will look to try a fruitier flavor like mango. read more

I stopped over here to pick up a pizza making kit for a YELP event. My package came with dough for two pizzas as well as the sauce and all the necessary toppings. Mercurio's is scheduled to reopen June 5th for in house dining at 50% capacity. Takeout is available now. When I picked up my kit I got to see a little of the inside and also saw an employee scooping out gelato into a container for sale. My understanding is that they make their own gelato. My kit came with instructions and a link to a YouTube video where I could actually watch how the crust was made. There is a trick to doing this. The day after the event I was on my own to see how well I remembered. Once again I preheated my oven to 550 and started flattening my dough and rotating it until I got a decent size crust. This one looked better than the one I had made at the event! After following the instructions my pizza was done. After cutting into it Ioved the gooey taste and the fresh cheese as all my toppings kept falling off. You can tell it's good when those toppings fall off. I really enjoyed making the pizza but for the $25.00 I spent on the kit I think I'm better off leaving it to the pros. Am looking forward to also trying out one of their gelatos. First, thank you Mecurio's owners for the Yelp Elite online event. I enjoyed living vicariously through the other attendees. Tonight, with social distancing, I called to make reservations. Party of 6 and 5 are picky eaters and 3 are kids. I told them pizza, gelato, and homemade mozzarella - sold. I recommend reviewing the menu and printing it out before your arrival. To decrease the risk of cross contamination, the waitress recommended using our phones to review the menu online. It was a little hard with bifocals but do-able. A paper menu was available on request. My salad with microgreens, mozzarella, tomatoes and balsamic was delightful and refreshing. It wasn't hearty enough for a dinner entree but a great appetizer. I could have made a meal on the homemade bread. So we ordered: 4 pizzas and a pasta. We all left with leftovers. Then ... we went over to the gelato counter. The kids initially were unhappy with small cups until they tasted the rich creamy gelato. We had peanut butter, death by chocolate, 2 vanilla, strawberry, and a key lime. And yes, we passed them around the table so everyone could get a taste the flavors. The adults liked the strawberry the best and the kids the peanut butter. I also took a large container of strawberry & key lime home. The restaurant is located (if coming from UPMC St Margaret) on the left right before the split going to Blawnox. Really a great unique spot! The pizza was so good and you can watch them cook them the entire time! I really enjoyed the salads the greens were super fresh and I loved the simple dressing. I went to dinner with my husband for my birthday and it DID NOT disappoint! Our waitress Lynda was absolutely amazing. I was worried putting our entire order in at once would be an issue. IT WAS NOT! She brought out salads out, and we had plenty of time to talk and eat before our next course came out. The pizza and pasta was amazing but the service was spectacular. Thank you Lynda and staff. I ordered a pizza making kit from them and I was able to make 2 pizzas at home. The kit offered pizza dough, mozzerella cheese, sauce, basil, and parmasean cheese. They offered a pizza-making class to show us how to press the dough to get it nice a bubbly and cook it properly. It was really fun putting the pizza together and took a lot of work to press the dough out right. Overall, my house smelled like a pizzeria and the pie turned out fairly well. This is our favorite restaurant - so much so that we had our wedding rehearsal dinner here! They did a fabulous job with it and people still rave about it today. Three star average?! Are you kidding me?! Amazing pizza with hand made yeast dough. Fresh salads. Great gelato. Sure the main menu is limited to pizza and panini. But they do it very well. Do you leave here stuffed to the gills on dough? No. Maybe that's why folks give this low ratings. But if you want flavorful ingredients on wonderful, fresh dough, this is the best pizza I have had in years and absolutely the best I have had in Pittsburgh. Abundant parking in dedicated lot at the Blawnox/Fox Chapel location. Clean, bright and fresh decor. We were a bit over-chilled by the A/C. Not a white table cloth experience but high-end pizza place with a happy and boisterous crowd that slowly thinned out during our visit late one evening. Good service. Spoke with the manager to offer compliments on server and everything else about the food. Often, our dining experience is uneven. Appetizers good but entree not so much. That sort of thing. Really glad to have another Mercurio's, especially one close to home. We stopped in here shortly after they first opened and despite some minor new restaurant tweaks, are off to a great start. My pizza was a little thicker than I've had at their Shadyside location, and they had some logistical issues as everyone's salads were coming out after the pizza, but it was still a great meal. Restaurant wise, it was cooler in the back and the front section was fairly warm - probably due to the oven, but hopefully something they can remedy. This place needs to hire some adults first and after they do that train them customer service. Ordered take out , two pasta dishes. I picked them up and was a little disappointed in the packaging, it was handed to me in a to small plastic bag but I didn't think twice about it. When getting it home I discovered no napkins, no plastic utensils and no bread. The food was similar to pasta you get in a buffet, dry and lacking sauce. I called the place back and asked to speak to the manager. A woman who claimed to be the manager gets on the phone and tells me that " you need to request napkins and utensils. That doesn't make sense, how do I know that if it's not disclosed on the menus? I asked why no bread, she tells me it doesn't come with bread , okay why not disclose that on the menus also? The menu says " extra bread 50 cents" that tells me if you want more bread then they give you it's 50 cents. It's okay though because I will never go back. read more

My husband and I split the burrata and prosciutto appetizer, the sausage pizza, and the prosciutto pomodoro panini. All were delicious and fresh. The crust on the pizza is light and flavorful. I had a glass of Pinot noir and they have nice stemware (I don't like drinking wine out of chunky commercial wine glasses). Great pizza and gelato. The crust is chewy. The toppings are generous. We got three regular crust pizzas and one gluten free pizza. One of our group has celiac. He said that they did a great job with the gf crust. Because of its nice chewy texture for a minute he wondered whether it really was gluten free but it was. I grow my own basil so we loaded up all of our pizzas with my basil. The gelato was pricy but very good. We got hazelnut and death by chocolate. I made an account just to post this review. I came to this place a couple days ago with my mother. Pizza was overpriced for what it was, soggy and bland. Got a Salsiccia but it had barely any cheese. The sauce was bland and crust was soggy. Nothing to deliver for a $17 pizza. All in the name of authenticity. There is an option for a gluten free pizza crust...but only a couple of weekdays during lunch. On the regular menu there are no options...even the gelato is problematic. A great new spot in Fox Chapel. They specialize in pizzas and gelato. The service here was excellent. The restaurant space is pretty cool, they have a bar (alcohol), gelato and a pizza area. We had a variety of pizzas including the marinara, lasagna and prosciutto. The marinara was simple but absolutely fantastic. The lasagna pizza was great too. The prosciutto was fine but I wasn't on board with how the prosciutto was basically just placed atop the pizza and not really incorporated into it. Their crust is really great. This is my first review (hopefully last). On the online and in person menu it says "gluten free crust available EVERY DAY." I went there for lunch with my husband who has celiac disease, and the chef said he didn't make the dough so they couldn't make the pizza. We had to leave because he's allergic to anything with gluten, and had to find another place to have lunch. I would just request that you take off of the "EVERY DAY" claim from the menu. ** This was at the Fox Chapel location. OWNERS/ MANAGER here's your problem at this location. Schedule more waitstaff!! (They sadly aren't paid much, so at least cover a predictably busy Thursday evening after Christmas Day) this is not the first time I have seen a packed house and not enough staff. We actually didn't even eat here this time. I am posting to compliment Kylie, the bartender/waitstaff, for a job well done. Kylie served us at the bar when we came to check for availability for a large party the next night. (While they do not take reservations for smaller groups,we were 10.) She was delightfull and assured us we would be accommodated. Being the day after Christmas the restaurant started filling up. While EVERY table was full, this lovely girl was the ONLY server. It was packed- and the kitchen staff ended up helping. Actually I wanted to get up and help! But she took care of everything with efficiency and grace- and a beautiful smile. I have been gluten free for about 6-7 years. When I bit into the crust of Mercurios gluten free pizza I nearly cried. It is easily the best gluten free pizza on earth. If you did not tell a person it was gluten free they most likely could not tell. And, it's delicious. The sauce and toppings are premium quality. Such a gem of a place. Pittsburgh is lucky to have them. I live in Northern Virginia but am from Pittsburgh. I come up at least once a month. I jokingly started to text my wife about how the waiter kept walking by our table without checking on us. After the 10th text the joke got really old. We waited for 10 minutes for him to come out and take our order. He never brought the appetizer or salad we ordered. Our pizzas came via a food runner (which seemed to be the owner because she was the only one that seemed to hustle at all) we told her they weren't here and sure enough they had been sitting I. The kitchen the whole time. The pizzas were good but the crust was a little soggy compared to most wood fired pizzas. The flavor was good though and the only reason I gave a 3 star review. I also asked for two pizza boxes to take home the leftover slices. When he came out with one I figured it wasn't worth 10 more minutes of wait for a new one.
