Brianna Balaja is the best! I'm genuinely happy to be writing this note to say how great my recent experience was with Mercury - especially with Brianna as my claims agent. My car was stolen, and it easily could have turned into a nightmare. Instead, Brianna took exceptional care of me. She truly went above and beyond, and if this is the Mercury way, that says a lot about the company. After the first body shop completely dropped the ball, costing me ten days of rental coverage while they held my car and did nothing. Brianna stepped in and immediately reassured me that this would not be my experience going forward. She connected me with a Mercury-authorized body shop in Pasadena that was, honestly, an excellent, wonderful 'unicorn' of a shop. In other words, they did a perfect job. She handled all the details with Mercury and helped me in ways I didn't even expect. Throughout the entire process, Brianna was consistently kind, calm, and steady - never flustered, always clear, always supportive. Last year, when a friend's car was stolen in Canoga Park, Mercury handled that situation beautifully as well. They are really nice, but they don't really fight for you and instead want you to go to court. They lose every case, and it's up to you to use the court system and find a fair resolution. I once had a lady drive into me while I was parked, and they only got 1/2 the money back... I think they might have inexpensive rates, so that makes sense, but if you can afford to drive a new vehicle, you probably actually need coverage, then it's probably not worth the trouble or money saved, and it's better to go with someone who will fight for you. read more

No Stars. I have been with Mercury Insurance for over 15 years. I have an excellent driving record. FYI: Mercury Insurance was fined $27.9 Million dollars in 2019 for violating California law pertaining to California Proposition 103. I had a recent minor accident with a bicyclist who was intoxicated, ran a red light, and crashed into my SUV. There was no damage to my vehicle, however my claims adjuster stated it was my fault. Why? I was abiding ALL traffic laws when this person crashed into me. The bicyclist was an old white lady, and I am a black man. I believe when my claims adjuster realized I was black, she decided to find me at fault. Every other insurance adjuster I've spoken to about this does not understand why my adjuster made this decision. When I spoke with my new claims adjuster, Timothy Solis, he stated he "didn't care about the law, or about CA Proposition 103 and even if I wasn't at fault he was going to find me at fault anyway and pay out the bicyclist's request for bodily damages. I believe they are doing this to cover up the fact that they never provided me with the provisions of Prop 103 discounts, over the last ten years for being an "excellent driver". I HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF INSURANCE AND REQUESTED ASSISTANCE IN FILING SUIT AGAINST MERCURY INSURANCE. If you have Mercury Insurance I suggest you check and see if you are receiving discounts according to Prop 103. If you are not, please file a complaint with the California Department of Insurance. Was involved in a minor traffic accident with my personal truck. Mercury Insurance is the company covering the other party. The other party, as well Mercury Insurance admitted they was at fault. Accident on 04/22/23, dropped off at body shop on 04/24/23. Body shop called, done on 5/19/23, was picked up from body on 5/19/23, not completely done to my standards of work. (Another story) To this date, 10/24/23, am waiting for complete payment of my cost of damages & rental car from Mercury Insurance. read more

I have been a member of Mercury, switched by my agent for better rates. I had two policies, when the credit card was switched, Mercury only switched 1 policy and did not tell us the other one was not switched, causing it to be canceled. Mercury called the wrong number and as a result, when we needed to use the policy, it had been canceled a few weeks earlier. Needless to say, this has caused extreme emotional and financial distress as I have been insurance premiums for many years without using it. Mercury did not contact the insurer with cancellation and said they called. It was the wrong person and when we left a message with the agent, they never returned our call. I called a few minutes ago to get my daughter added to my policy. The person who answered the phone was very rude very condescending and very unprofessional. I asked for the person's name just so I can get a better idea of who I was speaking to. He said his name was David then he he hesitated. When I asked him for his last name. He said he was Smith then he start asking me for all this other information on my policy which is did odd since I've been with expert auto insurance for well over 15 years now he's telling me that he's missing stuff on the policy which he should be auditing my policy regularly to ensure that everything is current and up-to-date so that that's another layer of unprofessionalism. They're not actively auditing their files to ensure that everything is accurate as it should be on the file so bottom line is I'm switching to another agent. Mercury is the best. I've had great experience with Mercury. Mercury is not the issue here. It's the reseller here. read more

Buyer beware!!!! I was rear ended in December 2019 and when I took my car into the collision center that Mercury recommended I noted on the intake that there was a rattling noise coming from the back passenger side. When I got my car back, the rattling was still happening. I went back and forth with the collision center about the issue with no resolve. I finally took the car to the dealer and paid $250 out of pocket for them to tell me the "sunroof rail is out of alignment". They also told me that this can occur from an impact I took the car back to the collision center with this information and Robert Reza a Mercury adjuster called me back to state he could not definitively determine that this happened in the accident. I informed him that he could not definitively determine that this did not happen in the accident either and it was noted during drop off but never addressed. When I was rear ended, my car was under factory warranty, I could have taken it to the dealer and had the issue addressed with no out of pocket costs. Basically, I'm out 3400 to get this issue resolved on my own, and this was MY insurance company!! As previous individual stated, you get what you pay for. I have cancelled both my homeowners and car policies with Mercury and have gone with AAA. It's about 600.00 more per year for both policies, but I will not give this company another penny! I filed a complaint with the BBB and the state insurance commissioner. I hope this review helps someone in the future! read more

I have been a member of mercury for over 10 years. In recent years I have come to require a service dog to which I adopted for. She happens to be a pitbull mix (mind you, 39% pitbull) and Mercury refuses to even provide any type of renters insurance due to this. Don't get fooled by the lower quote. You get what you pay for. This is the worst insurance to deal with if you are ever making a claim. They keep the premiums low by making your life hell when you make a claim. Won't cover things and won't give you things you are owed unless you waste time, write them, argue with them and get an attorney involved. Not the right approach to keeping customers. So while this insurance company prides itself on lower premiums, this is at the expense of covering claims fully and without back and forth as they are required to. At the end of the day, upon making a claim, you will be out of pocket way more than what you saved on premiums. Really disappointing way of doing business. Not reputable and won't have your back as a paying customer given how much the concern is about saving the insurance company money. Buyer beware!! read more

If I could give a negative review I would. I used to live all the way in the Santa Clarita Valley and they quoted me on car insurance told me to come down there and I drove 3 hours in traffic just for them to tell me the quote was in accurate that it would be more money and that they couldn't even "sign me up" I needed to go to the office near my house in Santa Clarita. Mind you I asked them on the phone when getting the original quote if there was an office closer to my home and they said no. That was when I spoke to a Hispanic women. Now years later I am still receiving emails from the company asking me if I'm missing savings by not being cover by their company. I have emailed and called numerous times to get off of the email list and no response or change. This is literally harassment!!!! To spite me they continue to email me!!!! Not to mention my mother sells insurance so I would never in any circumstance buy insurance from anyone than my mom. Please never do business or even waste your time with this company!!!! Mercury insurance as a whole is an awful insurance company. Due to the fact that they were overcharging like crazy ($180/month) I tried to cancel with them in April 2020, I still got charged through May, June, July, AND August. They changed the charge amounts slightly each time, not sure why but since I have been fuming about it I assume it was to be sly about the charges after I had cancelled. I've called a total of about 8 times in the past month to get a refund check and they finally sent it on August 7th... well today is August 26th and I still haven't received it. I finally called today although dreading to speak to them again and turns out they had the wrong address in my account (even being that an address verification is required before every phone call with customer service). Super rude woman that I spoke to as well to top it all off. Ridiculous. I switched to AAA in April for $70/month. Thank you AAA. I DO NOT recommend Mercury insurance. Awful listeners and awful customer service. read more

This is horrible, cut-rate insurance for people who don't know better or think they can't afford better (there are actually better companies that offer a fairly similar rate - do your research). They try to lure (shee)people in and disarm them with their low-intelligence and unfunny commercials, but at the end of the day, this is a scheme to separate you from your money and give you as little as possible in return.
