The care I received on both cardiac floors was great! MY RELEASE EXPERIENCE 7/15/26 just before 6pm a gentleman came to get me in this wheelchair or transport wheel chair. I had to stratal this bar and when I plopped down to sit, he made a comment. I had just spent 7 days trying to get my strength back after a heart issue!!! My daughter paid on your valet app EVERYDAY and each day, they still tried to extort money from her, saying she didn't. At just before 6pm, as my daughter was telling your valet service SHE ALREADY PAID BY THE APP, the transport gentleman asked me to get on the bench outside, on one of the most horrible weather days, combined with Canada's smoke cuz he would get in trouble for clocking out late (check your cameras) 7/15/26 just before 6 pm. Plus I had to walk thru a maze of cars to get to my daughters in the middle of the circle !! read more

I had brachytherapy for my prostate at another hospital and had complications with urinating. I went to Mercy Hospital's emergency room August 15 in the afternoon and saw the receptionist, Gloria who checked me in and then was called by Mitchell C., an RN to get my information. Both were very friendly and Mitchell went back to check and see if they could get me in because of the pain I was experiencing. Shortly after, I was taken to a room where two other RN's, Bri and Jim administered to me and was overseen by Dr. Monique Mirshak, MD. They were awesome and got me relief in a timely manner while being very busy with other patients. I would highly recommend this facility because I have been there in my life several times and for the most part, everyone from the guards to the medical staff are friendly and do their best to take care of you. This hospital was nothing but a big ol disappointment and JOKE! The nurses and aids (especially on the fifth floor) are rude, have no compassion, and actually LAUGH and mock their patients behind their back and sometimes in their faces. The lack of professionalism is truly astounding. Most of those people seem miserable or like they're there for fun. I was left alone for hours, not given my morning medications, and they even lied on my discharge saying they gave me everything I was on, but they never administered my Adderall. And every time I asked for my meds, they looked at me crazy. I can't even put into words how awful this place is. On top of it, I'm not even from New York. I was on vacation when all of this happened and I was scared and very anxious and they did NOTHING to help. Even after begging for anxiety meds. They seemed to be doing it on purpose too. Seriously a traumatic situation, and I can't believe they chose MY picture as the front cover. Whoever did that you're ridiculous. On top of it ALL, this hospital was disgusting. Every single bathroom was gross, there was BLOOD on the curtains in one of my rooms on the seventh floor, blood on the bathroom floors, pee and poop all over the seats, the janitor actually came into my room at one point and took the trash bags out and didn't replace them. Which is where my thoughts of malicious intent come in. They would administer pain medication and then leave me for hours as I'm having hot flashes and nausea from it. I swear they overdid it on purpose but of course I can't prove that, because nowhere in my chart does it say I was given that. They did so much to mess with me it was ridiculous. My father had a stroke, the care he received in the ER and ICU was fantastic. He was getting out of bed and walking to the chair, and was able to use a commode. He was moved to the 5th floor. he wasn't allowed to get out of bed, He would ask to use the toilet and he requests were denied. PT worked with him VERY little. When asked to come back to put him on the toilet, we were told he is 'too heavy' causing him to be incontinent of bowel. He was cleared to for discharge by the neurologist, but had to wait hours and hours for the medical team to come in. Discharge is now pushed back. Aides and nurses are very lazy and not at all helpful. read more

Had outpatient surgery in April 2026. It was definitely not something I was looking forward to for obvious reasons, but everyone that works there was very helpful and kind. I would go there again if I ever needed surgery. read more

these people at mercy e.r. are fkn disgusting. especially the nurses. One time i went in with tardive diskenesia, same symptoms as a stroke, and the neuro doctor was like "are you sure you arent faking these symptms for attention?". LIKE WHAT IN THE ACTUAL FK???!!! I was not faking and had TD from pysch meds and stroke symptoms was a side effect of what i was on. i also went for an overdose one time, and they werent even helping me. I showed up, intoxicated and overdosed on my antidepressants and almost DIED. They told me i was lying about my overdose and what i took and kicked me out and called me a cab home. As i was walking in the lobby, confused, still super drunk and getting sick from the 80 pills I took, i ended up collapsing right by the triage desk. Not ONE nurse got up to come help me or call over the speaker cuz i almost stopped breathing. I woke up in a pile of my own vomit and the security guard that worked at mercy had to call another ambulance to take me to ECMC because mercy acted like i was fkn invisible there while literally overdosing in the fkn lobby. Needless to say I ended up in ICU at ecmc for a few days because i literally almost died. Mercy, i hope you all rot in hell for the way you treated me and treat other patients like they dont matter. I just have to say that I lost feeling in the left side of my body last week. When I approached the desk in the ER and explained that I believe I may have had a stroke, they jumped into action. Even though beds and rooms were scarce. 30 rooms with 42 patients that needed to stay, they checked in on my often and on a regular basis. My nurse was Jenn and she and all of the doctors, PA s and nurses treated me with respect and took my case seriously. read more

These people went on strike because they think they deserve more, they deserve 1000x less. They dont care about the patients, you'll be waiting there for hours on a dirty floor or dirty chairs. They are extremely rude to patients as well and constantly eat while you're waiting to be put through a procedure. They roll their eyes at you for bringing up issues and call you names under their breath. Disgusting dirty hospital. Don't bring your family here, bring them to millersport suburban hospital. I went in by ambulance through the ER, hesitant because I only other experience there was 20 years ago after a serious car crash and they tried to diagnose me enlarged prostate and I had to argue in the waiting room in front of everyone (who had become my friends after sitting there for five hours) that I was a natural-born female and had not had a six change operation. But the ER has changed greatly since then, and I was hopeful of a positive experience this time. I had to have an IV because I was severely dehydrated, and that's where things started to go south and I regretted being agreeable to the ambulance crew and not insisting to go elsewhere. I guess it didn't dawn on any of the three nurses that tried that when you are severely dehydrated, your veins may not cooperate, and I had already told them that my veins are less than cooperative under the best of circumstances. I felt like a pincushion by the time they finally used an ultrasound to get a needle in my elbow joint, totally ignoring that I told them multiple times that normally others have to go in through my hands because too many IVs in the past have scarred my veins in my elbows. Again, my fault for trying to be nice and cooperate. Fast forward to getting up to the room, finally, and I have never seen such a rundown and dirty room for being in a hospital. Sure, someone came through swishing a mop around after my first roommate left before the second one moved in, but the tile that acted as a baseboard had dust and grime all along the top edge and in the corners. After a few times walking 15 feet from my bed to the toilet, my feet got black. When I did wash up one morning, I stood on a couple of washcloths, and just shuffling around a little to dry off and put on the gown, the washcloths were black. The toilet had a crack at the bottom where the water goes down that caught toilet paper and never flushed thoroughly without two or three additional flushes. And whoever came up with the genius design for the handrails attached to the toilet seat should have their head examined, because you can't spread your knees wide enough to wipe your butt, forcing me to stand up and bend over in an awkward position to wipe, which really isn't a good idea for someone having issues in the first place. The first time I used the toilet, I was having difficulty getting my legs to stop shaking so I could stand up so I pulled the call string. Somebody did come in, and when I asked, how am I supposed to wipe when I can't spread my legs, I was just told that I'd have to stand up and bend over. And the person then left with my legs still trembling, and I had to figure it out for myself. So much for their sign, saying safety over privacy and if you had a problem to call them for help. IV that took them so much trouble and an ultrasound to get in to my elbow ended up getting kinked and not working, so they put a second one in at my hand where I freaking told them in the first place, but they wouldn't take out the one in my elbow in case they needed it to put in Any kind of other medication. Like, it's obviously not working, and it's pinching the heck out of me and hurting. I was on the verge of pulling it out myself on the second day when they finally can agreed to taking it out. The first morning, I had to keep asking the nurses for one of my meds that they kept not getting for me, and finally ended up taking one out of my purse because my neuropathy was making my hands feel like they were on fire after she kept saying they didn't have any and when I told her I had some she just said "well I can't tell you to take it." At that point I just figured that she didn't tell me NOT to take it so I freaking took it. And of course got scolded later for taking my own meds. I was in severe pain the first morning, and it took someone sitting in an administrative office across the hall from me looking up at me a couple of times while I was sitting on the edge of my bed, crying and shaking from the pain before someone finally got around to actually giving me my pain meds. The second morning, the nurse wondered why my blood pressure was high, and I had to remind her twice that it was because I had already been awake for over three hours and they hadn't gotten around to giving me my blood pressure meds yet. I guess it was more important for her to report to the desk like all staff were paged to do and then do the multiple things that she said she had to do when first coming on shift for her to actually remember about my meds? You would think that would be one of those first things on your shift? When they came into the room in the middle of the night to see one of the two patients, they just flip the overhead light on without thinking that the other patient may be trying to sleep. ...I am now adding note to my emergency info card in my wallet that says do not ever take me to Mercy Hospital under any circumstances. read more

My daughter was brought in with pancreatitis on June 18 and discharged. She returned on June 19 with excruciating pain and was treated like she was an animal in the ER. She was in so much pain she couldn't even sit in a chair and they didn't even care they were making fun of her. She told them she had already been admitted the day before pancreatitis and they laughed and said you don't have pancreatitis. If anyone has ever experienced that kind of pain, I feel sorry for them. I don't wish harm on anyone but the way she was treated in that ER was Disgusting and horrible and subhuman. We even contacted the patient advocate office and that went nowhere. They don't care about anyone there. Avoid this Hospital at all causes if you value your life! I live in another state and I was on the cell phone with her when all of this was going on and heard it firsthand. Not one of those people in the ER that works there has any compassion and any medical knowledge as far as I'm concerned. Stay away. Value your life! read more

Nurses are snotty with anyone who asks too many questions. While the professional staff are great the floor nurses are a waste.

So about a month ago I brought my mom to the Mercy Hospital ER per her PCP. She was having terrible stomach pains, they drew blood, did an ultrasound, spoke of a CT scan but didn't do it. They gave her morphine for her pain, which helped, but weeks later had CT scan of abdomen done, mom has pancreatic cancer, if they would have done the test we would have known much sooner. read more

Recently had an outpatient surgery there. They have you use valet parking and it's free. The registration people were so friendly that it helped you to keep calm. They take you too the elevators and someone else is there to take you where you need to go so no worries about finding the right place. But the major problem is with "Social Workers calling my Daughter & telling her i have to go to a nursing home & i refuse re-hab!! Re-hab & Nursing care at Home is A patients choice & they don't tell you that!! I have been to a nursing home twice & have experienced the non existant "care" & the abuse (neglect)!!Never again!! Goodness I feel as if I've fallen through the looking glass. This relic of a hospital has a small portion that received a facelift but once inside, it's not a place I'd like to go for health care. Parking is a challenge. And wayfinding even more so. The reception desk clerk would not look up from her texting. So we walked to the next area and were told we need a pass. From the texter. She clearly wished to be somewhere else and reluctantly and in barely audible tones requested ID. We returned to Guard B and he was kind and cheerful and told us which way to turn upon exiting the elevator. Welp that was misleading. It was truly a maze to find the room my relative was in. Turn. Turn. Turn. The greatest obstacles were the narrow hallways cluttered with carts: bins of garbage, linens/laundry, spilled dinner on the floor, and dinner trays (it was around 6:45 pm) but especially personnel talking loudly and some were on their phones. I felt like we could have ducked into one of the rooms unnoticed. The security was quite low, I would worry for my safety if I was inpatient. The walls and floors were decades past updating and it gave a sense of being from a movie set from the 1940s. During a 40 minute visit, our very elderly relative was not checked in on once. I think Mercy Hospital needs to go the way of the old Children's Hospital. They too had the meandering, six foot wide hallways causing disorientation, tired old linoleum flooring and cracking walls. It went from an ancient eyesore to a glorious functioning regional medical center. The staff needs to step up their professionalism, not congregate outside patient rooms, and the receptionist needs to put people at ease and do their job. I hope to never return. read more

My father had to go into the ER due to pneumonia. He had a very similar issue this past summer, but we went to Buffalo General then instead. The care he received was like night and day. The doctor at Mercy was horrible, the worst bedside manner I have ever seen,did not listen to our concerns or take pre existing conditions into the care plan.... There was substances on the floor of his room. The nurse threw down a gown to wipe up- but no cleaning supplies or anything else. Horrible all around. If your loved one is sick, avoid at all costs. Honestly, good for surgery (as you meet with your surgeon ahead of time) and their food is decent. But for the ER or conditions where you have to stay at the hospital? Not so much. [Read review for more] At my ER visit in August they decided to just do a CAT scan. And even though I had just vomited and been on the toilet for 5 hours straight, they just sent me home... after 12 hours in the ER. They didn't look further into anything. Not my abdominal pain, not what could be causing the problems. And the staff was so rude! Whenever my grandma had to stay for heart problems, and internal bleeding. She had more falls here than anywhere else, and the nurse who tried lifting her by themselves denied it. And after she fell, they never got any blood work, xrays or any other tests done to see if she had started bleeding internally from the fall or broken anything. (She was very stiff and crying all day from their negligence) However, if you meet with your surgeon and they tell you that they will perform your surgery at Mercy Hospital. You have nothing to worry about. Completely different story! Nurses and staff were so sweet to me. Even gave me a warm blanket while I waited to be prepped for my procedure! They took me down to prep me for surgery and the nurses and staff made me laugh and kept me distracted before and during me passing out as well as in recovery. When I recovered, the staff was super attentive and the Dr. that took care of me was super sweet and went above and beyond to help me get to the bathroom, get dressed, and take me downstairs for my sister to pick me up... my aunt with dementia was taken there from her residential facility with a fainting episode. everyone was very professional and pleasant. I live 2000 miles away and the staff, the emergency room nurse, doctor, the physician's assistant, and the social worker was understanding and kept me updated every step the away. The social worker, Ms. S. Hicks was especially kind and helpful. She guided the process the whole way and got my aunt the care she needed in her current place. Mercy Hospital where I recently had back surgery was in my opinion one of the most filthiest hospitals I've have ever seen. But to be fair I didn't view the entire hospital the fact remains that our room after post op was filthy. The bathroom was a petri dish of bacteria, mold behind the toilet all around the floor boards. Next I would like to address the staff, there was a handful of professionals nurses and nurse's aides, That were attentive and caring. For the majority were rude lacking in hygiene awareness did wear gloves did wash their hands. If you rang your call bed for something they wouldn't come in your room for a good half hour or more they would say I'll get your nurse than not return again for a hour or so, by then my pain was out of control. I started to cry before I was addressed this is unacceptable. Having said all that they are all over worked and under paid this is a sad situation. My grandma was sent to this hospital December 20, 2023. First few days, we were fine, we were visiting, stuff like that, day one, we just walked in, didn't have to use ID or anything like that, day two, we were told we had to use an ID to go up, after christmas, we were told that the maximum amount of visitors were 2 at a time- they never even said anything about it the 3 days we were there. The last day, a woman told one of my siblings that he couldn't go because he was nine. They didn't even say anything about it. The woman had the nerve to call security on us and start lying about what my mother said, and then the security guards gave us attitude. Nurses were kind, security had so much attitude. read more

Emergency room was the WORST!!! Went in due to complications from a surgical procedure earlier that day. My doctor told me to go there. Spent seven hours there four hours in the waiting room sitting in a wheelchair in excruciating pain unable to sit up, three of them left in triage and no one came in for me. Finally saw a nurse they refused to let me see the doctor. They told us he was too busy to see me. Gave me medicine I already had at home that wasn't working and told me to call my doctor in the morning. Spoke with the nurse supervisor (Liz). who was very nasty and would not let me explain the issue. they did absolutely nothing. The care was terrible and the nurses were rude and did not care. A certain 5th floor nurse ( Emily ) ,who was very professional, compassionate and instrumental in my care and helping me get discharged and home for the holidays where I am mending well. We were here 2 times in 3 days. This is for the 2nd visit when they actually took care of my husband. I think the ER on Sunday was on shut down as they poked his back a few times and sent him on his way with some meds. Second visit, Dr Monique was fantastic and listen to my husband and reviewed everything he went through and took xrays twice to double check what was going on. Also, contacted his primary physician to make sure he was seen within 48 hours. She was thorough and took her job seriously and made sure the patient was taken care. bravo for helping him!!!
