Went in there with my mom today after a car accident, No one was around at the front desk 5 minutes later a lady comes up says it's going to be a bit doesn't ask any other questions. Then sits down and says she's all alone. We decided to walk out and go to ECMC where they were urgent when we mentioned car accident and got her checked out within 10 minutes. My stay at St Joseph's hospital was a perfect 10! The staff was very professional and very kind no question was to big or to small. I went in for a total hip replacement by Dr Osterpowetoski and I Had the best of the best! The nurses sn Dr were the best ever. The after care was amazing I had to stay overnight. . So after reading some negative reviews, I was rather nervous to come here for my first time. I'm so glad my experiences were great and I can honestly say I would rather drive out of my way to come here than go to the hospital which is right around the corner from my house (Millard Filmore Suburban). My first visit here was for a pre-op appointment for a tonsillectomy about 1 week prior to surgery. My wait times were short for each thing I needed to do, from preregistration, to lab work, to chest X-rays, to a physical. Everyone was very nice and the experience was quite personable actually which is something I always favor (even paid triple tuition for small classrooms at a private college - perhaps not to smart but it is my preference!). My next visit was for surgery, in which lies my only complaints; everything was fine until after surgery. But my first nurse I had coming out of anesthesia sort of was coaxing me to give a lower pain grade than I truly felt. She was such a sweet sweet nurse and was wiping my tears away and just being so endearing so I don't feel she was doing it other than possibly a little pressure as her position and maybe many patients confuse their levels of pain because they are scared and nervous and emotional. Then, when I saw my last nurse Bob who saw me until the end of my stay as an outpatient, I felt very frustrated because I had an extremely painful tonsillectomy and I tried to nod my head yes and no to his questions and hold up fingers for my pain management and his response was "ok we are not going to give nods and hold up fingers I need to hear you respond". It was very frustrating and insulting and I remember looking to my friend giving the ride like "why aren't you speaking up for me?" But after my doctor who performed surgery stopped by to see me, Bob seemed a bit more understanding that my throat is a mess. I think maybe there should be a little meeting to discuss the effects of adult tonsillectomies because they aren't as common and the older you are, the more of a nightmare (it's a long, dreadful recovery that most adults over 30 describe as the most painful experience of their lives - and I can attest). Other than this situation, Bob was a nice nurse just doing his best. Again, I think some quick information sent out to the severity of this operation is needed and the nurses may be a bit more understanding. After these two experiences, I was going to leave a 4 star review but my re admittance to the hospital 3 days later really left me feeling so warm and fuzzy towards this hospital that they earned that last star back: So 4 days after surgery I absolutely could not take the pain anymore. I couldn't swallow at all and could barley breath due to swelling. I originally went to Millard Filmore because it was a Saturday when doc is closed and this is also waking distance from my home. I was informed my doctor is not in network there and I would likely need to be transferred to St Joes Sisters of Charity where my operation was done. Once they reached my doctor, I took an ambulance over there. Mind you, I was still in pain because they didn't give me very strong meds at Millard Filmore despite being there for hours. As soon as the ambulance got me to st joes I felt almost immediate relief! They quickly registered me in ER as I had to wait for a room and the doctor said "don't worry, we got more pain meds than pain you can ever have!" And I was given something that took away so much of my pain so fast! Ahhh relief! That's all I wanted since surgery! Once a room opened for me, I went up to the surgery recovery floor where I spent the night and was discharged by about 1:30 the next day. I had my own room with TV in ER. Once admitted to my overnight room, I had my own large room. It was wonderful! Not all rooms are alone so please don't expect this - I just got lucky! And yes they have TV with minimal channels, but enough options to please most. They provide a baggy with basic hygienic needs. And you can ask for earplugs, hospital socks, etc. at no extra charge. I recommend they offer eye masks as well because the lights can be very bright from even just the machines they hook IVs to .. let alone if you are sharing a room and sharing those disturbances from another patient being treated. Hopefully they will offer that sometime. The staff was all very nice to me. I loved my overnight nurse so much. I wish I could remember her name. But anyways, they did not give me a hard time at all about pain meds or doing things to make me comfortable. When it came time to discharge, I truly did not want to leave. Everyone was so efficient and caring. I was well taken care of since the moment I arrived and until this moment, I had no idea hospitals were even capable of being so wonderful! I just assumed everyone was too busy to be truly nice to anyone. Upon discharge, I was given a small plant of budding flowers and a thank you card for being a patient. read more

I have been in and out of St. Joe's for the past 4 months including for some fun things like exercise and nutrition classes. The staff is super friendly and they are the reason I keep coming here. They are always able to get me in for appointments quickly and hold a friendly conversation when I'm a nervous wreck over a procedure. The cleanliness leaves something to be desired. Everything looks very outdated visually but the equipment they use is top notch! read more

I just had the worst experience when I went to the er at the hospital I couldn't swollow I could barely eat let alone talk after work I went to the er the Dr. Came in the room told me to open my mouth look down my throat with a light gave me 2 Tylenol extra strength I might add and told me to keep drinking medicine from over the counter remember I can't swollow anything I asked could someone please check my breathing I'm wheezing didn't you know he told the nurse he checked my lungs but he getting ready to get all the payment from the insurance company for nothing I will be on the phone in the morning making calls read more

This place seems alright to me. I don't make a habit of spending time in hospitals, but I've had to come here a couple times now for myself and in preparation for the birth of our daughter. The staff has always been friendly and the place has been clean whenever I came here. I'd have more substantive feedback if I knew more about hospitals or needed to come here for more services, but at this phase in my life, uneventful hospital visits are what I need and so far, I've gotten them here! read more

Wound center @ st joes Hosp. I went here 4-5 years ago and they were great. But had to go back a couple months ago. The head doctor ( dr. Routi)is gone. But the system is still working great. The nurses were great, very nice and attentive. The main doc (dr. Jill) is great took my history and was very good at explaining what was happening in my foot. The wound center is the place if you have a wound that has a hard time healing. They use hyperbaric chamber if needed. A++ read more

Went to this hospital 2x within months for the same health issues. Was told.the same thing each time by the Dr & I was badly misdiagnosed. Years ago, St. Joseph's did not have the best reputation. In recent years, since it's become a part of the Catholic Health System and Sisters Hospital and it seems as though it has improved. My Mom recently had to have surgery and her surgeon operates out of St. Joseph's. Though this is much farther from our house than Millard Fillmore Suburban, it's not too far of a drive. The hospital is somewhat old and could use a good overhaul, but it was clean and well kept despite its age. My mom spent 3 nights here recovering from her procedure. She had her own room (which we were told most room here are now), the nurses were all really nice, helpful and caring, and she was comfortable. The cafeteria was, umm... Well I wouldn't opt to eat there. It looked clean but the food looked old and gross. The patient meals (according to my mom) were okay. Probably 2.5 stars out of 5. Haha! Regardless, this seems to be a good facility with great medical professionals which is really what you want around you when you are in need of medical attention. read more

One may not think a hospital is worth reviewing but if you need one, you certainly want to go somewhere organized, clean and if possible, friendly. The emergency room has been a place I have frequented a couple of times the past couple of years and the staff that work there, busier than you can imagine, have each time been compationate, caring and quick yet efficient. There is no charge for parking and it is a good kindness that if you are there for something that cannot wait till the morning but are able to walk in, please park in the back lot and save the closest spaces for those in greater need. There are a couple vending machines if your stay turns into a long one, very clean restrooms, a cheery waiting room, with a good television and a load of current magazines. The seating is arranged in the waiting room so that you can go off by yourself, if you need to, and a few chairs are in rows so that if you wanted to get your feet up, you could do just that. When you walk in a triage is done right away and very shortly a triage nurse will see you. Then, it's up to fate as to how long before you see a doctor as they will go to those in emergency need before someone who just needs a perscription. Regardless what your need, you will find a competent welcoming atmosphere waiting for you there. Hopefully, you will not need an ER but if you do...... read more

This was 2nd major surgery for me for a joint replacement. My 1st one was done Sept 2012 and 2nd one May 2015. Both times I was totally impressed with cleanliness and friendliness of facility and the people. My surgeon was Dr Ted Szarzanowicz and his surgical staff are the best around. Saint Joseph Hospital you have posted throughout the building the fair opportunity all who enter will obtain but you again failed to provide this too. Saint Joseph Hospital your mission states that firstly what you do will set you apart. Saint Joseph hospital you mission states your touch, smile, comforting words will help our experience ...where were they during our stay! You pledged Respect, dignity and comfort in times of greatest needs...There is evidence of the contrary. Certainly, it wasn't a total disappointment we made it out alive and hopefully without MRSA! I felt sorry for the few Nurses who met the standard and above. They were over worked and stretched to the max. It was also evident the aides were overworked as well. Short staffed floors mean patients who ring for a nurse and wait and wait until they either try to get out of bed ( which happen and patient fell leaving the floor in hysterics) or irate when a nurse finally hastily ask how can I help you with one foot out the door. There were clearly supply shortages to the point of unbelievable unhygienic practices. Broken sinks, crowded rooms with random furniture. Spills on the wall, blood pressure cuffs stored hanging off the blood pathogen container. Broken soap dispensers in bathrooms, curtains that won't go from one end to the other to provide the privacy a patient deserves ... just to name a few! Saint Joseph hospital you present like a hospital barely getting by. One that is transitioning to closing its door. I challenge you until that final minute to live by your mission statement. Honor your staff in ways that they will in return honor their patients. Care for your staff the way you want them to care for each person who comes through the door. After you have modeled the highest quality of care to your staff hold them to be their best to those who come through the doors literally placing their life in your hands. Joe's Hospital I would give them a minus zero or less because my daughter has been there since 11:30 p.m. on September 14th 2019 and it is now September 15th 2019 at 2:45 in the morning she has still not been seen by a doctor a nurse or anyone else. I have never had a bad experience at St. Joes. The Emergency room staff are always nice, understanding and efficient. I have also stayed in this hospital at times. Understandably the nurses are understaffed and very busy but always treat and give you the respect that you deserve. read more

The er is good but if you expect you're going to be admitted go to a real hospital. Inpatient is downright horrid esp nursing. Don't want to get into reason for being there but they were flabbergasted on how to handle a common situation that was independent of the reason for admission. And the rooms are so dumpy I think an hourly motel would be an upgrade read more

Honestly appalled. I brought my girlfriend here after a leg injury. The nurses were extraordinarily rude. They made me feel as though we were inconveniencing them. We had wine with dinner and were told that her pain was being "intensified" by the alcohol (which is rediculous). She was in excruciating pain. All we wanted was to get some help. Instead we were treated like fast food customers and sent home with zero information that could help us. Thank god we went to ecmc where her leg was actually taken care of. Also if you're looking to be taken care of quickly DO NOT COME HERE. we were only seen by medical personnel 5 times during 4 hour stay and that was with the E.R. being slow. We waited for our discharge papers while the nurses hoarded around a box of Paula's donuts (which they did not look like they needed) for almost an hour. Take the extra 10 minute drive elsewhere!!! read more

Recently had knee replacement at St. Joe's and I was extremely impressed. First the offer a class to explain joint replacement, what to expect from the minute you walk in to the minute you leave. Procedure, case workers, pharmacists, therapists. The care I received on Hall 4 was the best hospital experience I have ever had. The staff was friendly, and extremely caring, right to the cleaning staff. Everybody was constantly cleaning theirs hands and you never felt your were bothering them I cannot say enough good about this hospital. The food was ok but the veggys sometime were not as fresh and the coffee ( even the decaf) needs help so I drank tea. No big deal. those are minor as the care was the best. read more

Tina in reception is lazy and unprofessional uncaring power hungry. My father and I sat in lobby for 45 min only two other people here. My mother brought in by ambulance I'm on her health care proxy as well as her husband my father. Tina refused to let us see her after asking several times. I could not wait any longer so I called my sick mom to let her know we were here and waiting to see her and she said" I was wondering where dad was I thought he was lost." Nice to know my sick mother in a hospital bed in the Er has to call for the nurse to have her husband and daughter to see her. read more

I am writing because I am absolutely disgusted with how my husband was treated on Friday night (1/31/20) in the ER. He came in at 4pm on Friday and we did not leave until 3am on Saturday. He came in due to having blacked out and almost losing consciousness twice the week before. He was instructed to visit the ER by his doctor. We sat in the waiting room for over 5 hours and then led back into a room that wasn't cleaned. There were no sheets on the bed making it impossible for him to lay down. We sat there for another 45 min to an hour before ANYONE came back to check on us and at that point we were taken to another room that was actually ready for a patient. We were told that it was extremely busy in the ER which was why we were forced to wait so long, however for the hours that we were back in the room proved diffrently; I could hear a pin drop. Saw many of the employees just standing around. When it was time for him to be taken to get a CT Scan he had fallen asleep and the woman startled him because she thought yelling at the patient that he was ready to go, was appropriate. She asked me if he could walk and I had to inform her that he needed to be put in the wheelchair but he was still hooked up to the IV. She decided to remove it herself but apparently did so incorrectly because blood started coming out of the IV onto the bed and the floor. She left us to get a nurse while I had to find something in the room to catch the blood. After he was taken to get his scan I had asked if they would change the sheets and they didn't. I was told it was because the shifts had just changed so he had to lay in the bed with blood all over it. He was brought back to the room at 11:15pm and it wasn't until 2:45am when the doctor came back with the results of his scan. I don't know what facility you use to read the scans that are done for these patients but that is absolutely ridiculous and unacceptable. I am grateful that it came back clear but there was no way of knowing that it would. I don't know how you get away with making your patients wait, hours on end, claiming you are extremely busy when you clearly weren't. It's absolutly disgusting that you would treat someone with severe head pain in this way and even more disgusting with what we had to deal with on top of that. There is good reason why you are known as Sloppy Joes and I wish I would have known that prior to our visit. I will NEVER set foot in your facility again and I will make sure that everyone I talk to knows of our horrible experience with you. read more

Worst hospital I've ever been to. I am a heart patient with pretty complex inner workings. I knew that, so did my doctor who sent me there. She printed up a brief report on myself and gave it to me to give to them. When I got to the ER, I answered a field of questions, all of which could be answered if they looked at the print outs I had. But, they refused. I was diagnosed with pneumonia, which I kinda figured I had. Without any Pryor knowledge of my health history they prescribed me a steroid and an antibiotic. The antibiotic isn't for heart patients from what I've read. The hospitals negligencemade me sicker than I previously was. read more

Do not EVER go to St. Joseph's hospital in Cheektowaga. I went last night due to severe pain and vomiting. I thought that maybe I caught a bug from someone I work with or that I had slight food poisoning. Once we got there and answered questions for the nurse she proceeded to tell me that It seems to be that I am having contractions and going into preterm labor. This is my first pregnancy ever, so every little ache and pain sends me into a panic. I started hysterically crying because I was so scared and could not believe she was telling me this. Mind you she did not ask me if I had been around anyone who was sick and she didn't ask me if I ate anything out of the ordinary. She immediately told me it sounds like preterm labor, she took me in the back to a bed and said if I feel any liquid or discharge oozing out to contact the nurses immediately. I started crying even more and asked her why she was making me feel as if I was going to deliver my baby. She told me because they are a hospital and they prepare for the worst case scenario. I understand that they prepare for the worst. But aren't nurses supposed to be caretakers and nurtures and calm the patient down? Not tell them the most awful thing they could hear and be rude and cold about it. Aren't they supposed to make you feel as comfortable as possible? She told me that I needed a pelvic exam to make sure I wasn't dilated. So after being made to feel like this was an urgent matter we sat there for FOUR hours waiting to see the doctor.4 hours to see a doctor when I am 5 months pregnant with pain, not to mention with as serious as the nurse was making it seem I feel like I should have been looked at immediately. So needless to say I sat for 4 hours panicking about my baby until the doctor came in and did an ultrasound. We found my baby doing perfectly fine and kicking away like crazy as always. Turns out it was just a slight case of food poisoning like I thought. But for what I was put through and made to feel I will never return to that hospital and don't suggest anyone to go there. I will be making the trip to Lockport to make sure I get the treatment I deserve. read more
