The surrounding area around the Buffalo VA is dirty and dilapidated. The only street that is clean is Lebrun and that runs along the east side of the VA. I had my knee drained and the care was excellent. The nurse, radiologist tech, and doctor took great care to drain my knee. Very pleased. The office was nice but again looks dilapidated. Parking at this VA is minimal when it's busy. The parking spots are narrow so plan accordingly and get there a bit early to park and then walk into the VA. read more

Just had another yet another appt here. Found open parking right off. It was raining but don't mind the rain ever. Cheery faces always walking in. My appointment went fast, well and informative. Before i walk away from the clinic/doctor, I'll always ask for a printout of my future appts, of which they always oblige with a smile. The service I receive here is absolutely top-notch and excellent! Sure there are issues sometimes and nothing can be pure perfection ever, but as often many who work here are NOT veterans or in the worst case scenario, not even related to the military as I have seen some very bad concern and seen some absolutely stupid actions and "care" at some clinics, which I have reported. Unfortunately the hospital decided to keep the stupid clinic worker who insulted, then laughed at a very old veteran and his wife, IN a crowded clinic.If I were the director of the hospital, that jackass would have been fired on the spot, but that was not done, so it could well happen again. I am very appreciative for my care as I'm rated at 80%. I just hate dealing with young stupid idiots who insult and laugh at veterans. read more

I am a veteran myself, and unfortunately have had some less than great healthcare services during my time in. So I personally don't use these facilities. My brother does and unfortunately had to have surgery here this past week. Love the free parking (of course first thing I would speak on) and there is plenty of parking. I was in awe over how nice everyone was. The check in was easy, expect a bag check. Big shout out to the staff on the 2nd floor who check you in and prep you for surgery. These ladies were absolutely amazing. They handled my brother with care. They were so kind to us and informative. Just like all the other hospital you can track your loved ones status on the TV monitors. They have a Starbucks on the main floor and a cafeteria in the basement and store. After surgery my brother went to the 5C floor. This floor smelt Awful, was very dirty and cluttered. The entire hospital is not the cleanest, and it is very very hard to maneuver through this facility. It definitely could use some updates and a good cleaning!! But overall was a good experience for us and my brother. I'm still not sold on going, but glad my family had a good experience. read more

We have been in the Buffalo VA emergency room now for 3 hours with my very fragile, crippled, elderly father. This is an absolute shame that our Veterans are treated this way. He is in a very uncomfortable wheelchair for 3 hours and hasn't even been seen yet! He no longer is able to stand or walk so a Lift will be needed to get him out of this chair to be examined. So so sad that the VA system is so broken that it takes this long to be seen. His 85 yr old wife(my mother) sitting next to him is also having to endure this nightmare. Shouldn't be like this. *Long review for Veterans! My husband and I recently moved from San Diego, CA and we used the VA system there for 4 years. Here's a list of pros and cons for the Buffalo VA vs San Diego, CA. Pros Buffalo You can get set up with a OEF/OIF representative that will assist you along the way with filling out paperwork, scheduling any appointments and getting set up with almost any assistance you need. (Didn't have that in San Diego) You're (free) VA Health Care doesn't stop after 5 years like most facilities! Doctors and other representatives have offered my husband and I A LOT more services than San Diego. Either San Diego didn't offer them at all or didn't offer to us. It's A LOT easier to get appointments here than San Diego. Appointments are available more frequently and quicker! (Less Vets in Buffalo) CONS Buffalo Receptionists are RUDE and always seem frazzled! (Didn't happen in San Diego) You will automatically be treated like a drug addict if you come in to the emergency section of Behavioral Health to get a renewed prescription for meds you've already been prescribed! Or to try to see a doctor to start new medication for anything related to a controlled substance. Even if you aren't an addict! They say it's to wean out addicts that are trying to double dip, but it's crap to just assume everyone is attempting that. Facility structure is confusing. There are multiple wings (4-5) on each floor and all wings look the same. It's easy to get lost. Facility feels dirty or some what unsettling (compared to San Diego). Overall, there are better and worse VA Health Care systems out there. It is what it is. It's free. read more

Had blood drawn at VA using their mobile site. From start to finish, a first class operation; from the moment I arrived on the VA hospital grounds, there was someone to ask questions and give directions. The sequence of events was so smooth and seemless, it seemed like it took five minutes, from the moment I arrived, to the moment I left. More importantly however was the staff: each person was personable, friendly, and professional. Frankly, it felt somewhat like a military operation, and I felt so at ease that I didn't want to leave. I sensed an atmosphere of discipline and safety - like there was no threat to fear. I'm very happy I went to the VA this morning. Thank you for your efforts. read more

I've been bringing my dad, a Korean War veteran, here for various tests and exams for several years. The staff never fail to impress me with their professionalism and courtesy. It can be difficult to navigate one's own network of health care providers. It's even more difficult to advocate for someone else, and adding to that a layer of government bureaucracy can be daunting. The VA staff have made every effort to help us coordinate dad's care, from making records available to outside providers, to scheduling multiple appointments on the same day to save trips. The VA provides shuttle services to transport veterans from all over WNY to this clinic. If you're driving, parking can be challenging. There are a small number of accessible parking spaces near the main entrance, but those are frequently filled. There is a lot and a garage if walking a short distance isn't a problem. The clinic provides (brand new) transport chairs that make it much easier to move patients from parking to their destination. This is a full service hospital, with multiple clinics within, to care for every need. While there is room for improvement and some serious issues to deal with generally, it's great to know this center is doing the best it can to care for local veterans. read more

My fiancie is very upset right now after waiting an hour and ten minutes up at the VA hospital to see his primary. He went up to where you check in and told the girl that he watched three people come in the door and get up and go back there since he has been here. Also, six more people went back there while he was waiting. He was so angry that he was ready to walk out of the hospital then they went to check on things and then called him back to the room. Vatrans hospital failed my father which of whom had passed away 5 weeks ago with severe constipation he has operation 2 years ago in his stomach they had cut him open and cut half of his intestines out and every since then he been having complications and he would go to VA emergency room and they told him he just had gas and gave him some gas 3x and sent him home and before my dad passed his stomach was big as a watermelon and look like was pregnant with triplets even buffalo general said they never saw nothing like that before and Buffalo general said that ny dads heart was strong and healthy fir a 70 year old and he was healthy and Buffalo general also said that va shouldn't have sent ny dad home within 3 to 4 weeks he should have been taking to a rehabilitation to have extra eye on him to see how he's doing and how he reacting towards the surgery even both Buffalo general and the funeral home said that va basically failed my father after all the trust he put in va they failed him cause was fine before he had this surgery he had constipation which I told don't do but by his choice he wanted it but va took my dad from me and I'm fighting back do va get ready cause I'm sewing yall asses with no mother freaking mercy u done messed with the wong one so get ready cause I'm sewing fuck out if yall they didn't even give him his pay back that he been waiting for years for and he wanted was a motor home and fuckers took that away from him and and all he wanted was an rv and its not fair how you mother fuckers treat our vets but get ready to get sued cause yall dad away from me and I will never fir give yall read more

I come in for appointments,i wait for 2 hrs in wait room,finally i complain,im told i have a new doctor now,they dont know me,im disappeared i guess,had a phone call appointment,as a cancer ms patient,waited on line 2 1/2 hrs,my phone finally died,whats goung on here,how do i get my needed appointment. The VA Hospital in Buffalo is completely subpar to all other hospitals in the area. Be prepared to be in a dirty dingy room with 2 to 3 other men, even if there are rooms open as they are grossly understaffed. My husband went in, was misdiagnosed, had a botched surgery, was ignored as I, his wife, and children were also. He went in for a follow up appointment for pneumonia and surgery for pneumonia when it was determined later to have been misdiagnosed and he didn't have pneumonia. He was then told during the follow up he was filled with pneumonia 4 days after being released. He was admitted and ignored despite pleas from us and died within 24 hours. (2017) read more

You will find that your PCP is not so much a doctor than a referral clearinghouse with Basic Life Support added in the mix. Adherence to policy trumps patient welfare consistantly. I waited 3 1/2 hrs past my appointment time to be informed of my prostate cancer diagnosis. Sterile procedures are routinely ignored by nursing & staff. Many nurses are rude, rough and/or incompetent. There are good points to consider, problem is, something always occurs which mars the experience. read more

I have always had appointments delivered in a timely manner, many same day, and have never waited any more than 10 minutes past the appointment time. Needed to have my eyes examined in February 2016, and the professional there said I had a cataract in one eye that is affecting my quality of life. Doctor first asked how soon I wanted this taken care of. When I answered as soon as possible, she mentioned a date that I was to be out of town on a trip. When I told her so, she forcefully stated I 'would have to cancel this trip', I which I had rescheduled from the previous year. Then came the other doctor, looked at me, and said she would not do the outpatient procedure, as I was 20-25 pounds overweight. Both Mayo Clinic and WebMD websites do not mention weight as a criteria. Now, after contacting the 'Patient Advocate' I was told it wasn't so much the weight, but the a1c level, of which the data being used was from late in 2015. VA Eye Doctor refuses to schedule to recheck my eye until July 2016. This is not very professional of a hospital, and the VA wonders why Veterans feel despondent over treatment options. read more
