I've had a couple of family members here the last couple of years. When you have aging family members, you know it's critical anyway you look at the situations. There's been a few hospital stays and a couple of surgeries. Doctors have been caring. The nurses have been very helpful and supportive. The other staff members are just as friendly and helpful. Their cafeteria and staff has been very friendly and welcoming. I've had to make some coffee runs! Overall, a beautiful hospital. Ample parking. Clean bathrooms. Friendly staff. read more

I had to have a myleogram pre surgical test today. The previous myleograms I've had I got insane migraines and was throwing up like crazy! The tech Chris Jones and his assistants were great! Chris worked with me and was able to stop the injected dye from creating a massive headache. As soon As I felt it coming on he backed it off and headache went away and NO vomiting! When Mercy opened I thought they had a great way to see patients in the ER because every time I went there it was a fast enjoyable experience. Over the last 5+ years it has gone extremely downhill. Patients wait for hours and hours to get seen. I'm currently there and it's been over 3 hours now. Sitting in the waiting room in pain. It's like this all the time now for everyone I know who has been here. Last time I had to come here, I was in a lot of pain and throwing up. I wish they'd go back to how they used to do it. Also, it's hit or miss if the girls at the desk are going to be nice. read more

I came to the ER having an asthma attack. I told them I'd already done multiple breathing treatments through the night and still couldn't breathe. I was coughing nonstop, my chest was tight, and I was scared I wouldn't make it through the night. They took my oxygen, said "it looks good," and left me in the waiting room for almost an hour. No one listened to my lungs. No one assessed my breathing. No one cared. I watched other patients who got there after me go back while I sat there in clear respiratory distress. I had to beg to be acknowledged. They acted like I was being dramatic just because my oxygen hadn't dropped yet--as if that means I wasn't actively suffering. Asthma is life-threatening. This was not a minor concern. This was a patient asking for help and getting ignored. Mercy Joplin should be ashamed of how they treat patients in crisis. I will never trust this ER again. read more

Come in on ambulance due to lodged kidney stone. Get carted out to waiting room in extreme pain. If I could sit in waiting room I wouldn't have taken an ambulance. People working don't care. If there was a way of being transported to Kansas City I would. Neither Joplin hospital is worth anything. read more

We have never had such a terrible experience with Mercy Hospital in Joplin Mo. My daughter took my granddaughter for care, dr was condescending, basically told her the baby was not sick enough to come to the er. We have had 2 different instances where the baby has had to stay in the hospital for a week, my daughter was trying to prevent that from happening again. She did the right thing, and the Dr is now trying to punish them by making them wait in the er for almost 8 hours. read more

Doctors and nurses need to have care and compassion for everyone that walks through that door in the ER even the chronically ill. The head doctor of the ER Jesse Hatfield wants to label everyone who comes through that door as an addict or drug seeker yet will tell you to your face he refuses to look at said chart to see what your illnesses are. He will even refuse to treat an infection properly and send you home with an antibiotic you are allergic to and tells you to take it anyways. Had to go to another hospital er within hours of leaving Mercy's ER to get proper treatment. Was septic, on IV antibiotics and was a 5 day hospital stay. Needed 3 additional weeks of antibiotics through a PICC line. The nurses act like it is an inconvenience to answer a call light, administer medication or answer questions. I've lived in many states and cities including in Missouri and mercy Joplin is the worst ER I have ever been to. read more

I went in on Sunday morning 11/16/25 for abdominal ultrasound when I got there the emergency room was locked up couldn't get in I'm on oxygen I had to walk up there by the time I walked back to my car of the exhausted had to drive all the way around to the front of the building get out of my car and walk even further to get in had to grab a wheelchair walked into the building excuse me pushed I guess myself into the building in a wheelchair up to the desk which had a a note saying to to push zero for information one for registration so I pushed one nobody to be found in the building and I said there are several of us waiting to get registered for appointments that we got for today and there's nobody here well of course she said there's nobody there it is Sunday there's not going to be anybody there unless it well how do we get our appointments taken care of or doing what we was told to do to call this number and she gets just hang tight we'll get somebody down there take care of you very very rude finally this young lady showed up and she goes can are you guys be waiting to be taken care of and I said yes we need to get registered and she goes well just a minute I'll take care of you very rude so she goes walk over here come with me we had to walk all the way back to the other side of the building now keep in mind the gentleman that was there was having trouble walking I was trying to push myself in a wheelchair they had no volunteers there to help me I finally got checked in it was almost terrible day to be at Mercy hospital I've never seen an emergency room locked up I have never seen in the hospital feel so abandoned in my life and I have a feeling that I will be transferring to Freeman for medical care that hospital was terrible I have no desire to go back there read more

In March 2016 Mercy released me from the hospital with kidney failure and undiagnosed bacterial Meningitis. When I cried because of the headache their doctor gave me Ativan. I spent 22 days at KU when my doctor pulled labs taken before they discharged me and she had me go to UMKC. In October 2022, I was in hospital again. They released me at 10 AM. Throughout the day I got steadily worse. My best friend drove me to UMKC. I was put on a ventilator in ICU and the doctors at UMKC could not believe I had been discharged by Mercy. Last night I went for a skin infection. My regular pharmacy is closed on the weekend so he sent it to Mercy Pharmacy. Turns out it's closed. When I called ER they wantede to go without it until tomorrow. When I clarified that they wanted someone immunocompromised to go without it for more than 24 hours, they said they would get charge nurse to send it in to a pharmacy that was open. When it wasn't sent into pharmacy that was open, I called back. I was told the charge nurse would get around to it when she could. My home health person has to leave without my meds because of his hours only covering a certain time. So I have ended up without the antibiotic. I plan to sue Mercy if I go septic or they ever almost killed me a third time. read more

Big Grande (hi Ari), I mean grand, shiny Hospital in Joplin which emphasizes something which I always say - that Pharmaceuticals and medicine and doctors are big big big business and are making a killing - if you will forgive the pun. That's why they can build facilities like this. Although a tragic tornado is part of what led to it. A very good hospital for the Joplin area and I heard a lot of good stories about them in the tornado aftermath. Their building was completely destroyed by that infamous F-5 tornado and has been rebuilt from the ground up after being demolished in 2013. The new version looks fancy and beautiful. read more

I have had a great experience going to Mercy except for a cardiologist and sleep dr. I was in the hospital for 3 days. I received EXCELLENT care. Everyone was friendly, caring, professional and seemed to enjoy their job. Only other hospitals I've been in is Freeman and Barnes in St. Louis. Awful experience at both. I went to freeman drs for 19 yrs and my internist office was awful. They almost ruined my health. Went to mercy and I am so much healthy and feel great! Also at freeman I had 3 misdiagnosis that caused me harm and suffering. Mercy is far superior to Freeman!! read more

We are passing through town driving from Iowa to Texas. Checked into our hotel at 10pm and by 1030pm we were heading to the ER. My complex needs daughter got an open fracture on her finger. The ER was surprisingly calm and quiet for a Saturday night. We were triaged quickly and the nurse was very caring and took good care of our child. The wait from triage to a room was about two hours, but I've experienced much worse. Once we got a room everything went very quickly and efficiently. I arrived for a herniated disc, in extreme pain. I couldn't sit down because of the pain. The only pain relief comes from lying down. I asked for a bed to lay on multiple times. I was told no, they have none. For 2 hours I limped around the waiting room in extreme pain, still being told no bed was available and to "lay on the bench." I couldn't lay on the bench because it was too low for me to lower myself to it. My girlfriend arrived at the hospital (who is a nurse in another hospital) and she made a phone call to someone, wondered down the hall and arrived with a stretcher for me to lay on. There were 3 employees who had to assist her in this process. They were friendly, helpful, guided her to a stretcher, helped her by escorting her through areas requiring a badge. What is sad is the other patients in the waiting room who were waiting to be seen were offering me blankets and other things to try and sit on or lay on for relief. I tried to lay on a bench but it was too low for me to get one. She made a phone call to an on duty supervisor and 5 min later, after 2.5 hours of suffering in the waiting room, I was finally taken back. The on duty triage nurse told my girlfriend to take the stretcher back, which she couldn't since it require badges to get to where she got it from. But she did her best to get it back into the area it needed to go. After being put in a triage room, no other assistance was provided. My girlfriend found blankets and towels in the counter and used them for a pillow and to prop my leg up. They finally came in to see me and offered me pain killers. My relief came from lying down and the pain killers help. Once service was provided, it was good but slow. The on duty nurse practitioner (Thad) was great and informative. Kayla, who took me for an MRI, was extremely nice and helpful. Very caring to my pain and situation. The discharge nurse, after shift change from the original triage nurse, was very sweet and helpful. I came to Mercy because of extreme pain and the distance to the VA hospital was too great. I was given the option between Mercy and Freeman. If it happens again, I'll try Freeman. I can't believe how inconsiderate the triage nurse was to my obvious extreme pain from a nerve pinched in my leg to the point I was in tears in the waiting room for 2 hours. i got transferred here from Eldorado springs ER with acute appendicitis waited in the ER for hours they would not help me get up to go to the bathroom my sister had to help me up out of bed, they never came to check on me either. I didn't get to a pre op room till 10:30 am I got there after 4:30 am. nurses didn't come and check on me at all! next time I'm going to springfield! read more

My daughter Got sent to the er from their urgent care. We arrived at the hospital at 3:54pm. Waited until 7pm and finally went to the desk and asked if we were getting close to being seen. Turns out they never checked her in! Finally got to a room almost 8pm and took FOREVER To get things going. It is now almost midnight and finally getting discharged with a uti. Why was this test not run at the urgent care??? Why were we there from 3:54-11:50??? Nurse practitioner, Kyle, and the other nurses were super nice tho. Just wish the girl at the check in desk...the one that was there when they wrote her name down, would have noticed we had been sitting in the waiting room forever and think hey, I don't remember seeing an extra name on the list. And hey, mercy urgent care, why didn't you run a test on her urine??? Our normal nurse practitioner, Amy, would have examined her, run a test, and figured this out and probably not had to make a trip to the er. read more

Joplin, Mo Stop...DO NOT GO HERE!!! Nurses are absolutely negligent. I was there after having surgery and honestly don't know how they are getting away with treating patients so awful! After having one of the nurses yell at me I complained to the head nurse. She became very defensive and told me I was the one that was probably being rude. After this incident, things just got worse for me. They went over 5 hrs. without even checking on me. Then when my daughter asked them why they were not checking on me, the same nurse told her (Very rudely) that if I needed something I should have called them! She tried to explain that that wasn't the point, but they just walked away from her. They were so hateful towards me that they even made me leave without a wheelchair. So, about 24 hrs. after a major surgery I had to walk myself down two floors and a long way to the exit doors. They didn't even care If I fell, ripped my stitches out, or became otherwise injured. They did so many other things wrong to me but, hopefully, you get the idea. read more

Recently, my son needed aftercare following a spinal injury. The ER doctor only gave him a 3-day work excuse for a fractured spine. For two days, the switchboard directed us to the wrong locations for a follow-up appointment, with us rescheduling twice, and him being refused to be seen, as their miscommunication made us late to the appointment. He was refused shuttle service from the hospital to the clinic, down the street, because we were directed by their switchboard to the wrong facility, We have no working vehicle, due to the accident that caused him to have a fractured back, and I'm disabled, depending on him for transportation and mobility assistance, so they aren't harming just one patient, but two. I will not pursue any further interaction with Mercy Hospital, and to anybody considering them, I would suggest they find any other health provider, even a crackpot witch doctor, first. The lack of compassion and unprofessional behavior we've experienced the past few days has completely made me lose confidence in their competence. They should change their name to Merciless Hospital. We will be suing for malpractice. read more

Went to ER. Was seen quickly. And thought I was being taken care of. But once they drew labs and shot an Xray. That's when I felt forgotten. I got to the ER around 2130 finally checked out around 0100. They refused to give me any result to take with me. Mercy's getting 5 stars cause of awesome Doctors & nurses that have helped me & my friend every time we go & the Blood draw station staff that say hello & ask how's things are and now & then tell a joke. My illness keeps me from doing a lot I get tired quick if I do to much at one time. But thanks to everyone at Mercy Hospital the staff the coffee shop there & yes the cafeteria staff & the food they put out thank you for making our day brighter. So we when to the ER because my dad had a heartattack and they got everything done really fast and then when they took a X-ray it was correct but it took a little longer then they expected but they got everything tooken care of and the way to make it fast is calling the hospital before going then you'll be out of there in no time!! read more

If I could I'd give it no stars. My step father had to be taken by ambulance today, and they were absolutely rude to him, he is immobile and has an autoimmune disorder and they were so rude when he told him he felt like he needed to go to the bathroom, he asked if someone could help him clean himself after and she just stood there and asked him well can't you stand up? When he proceeded to tell her no, she said well how do you expect me to clean you then, so he said I guess you'll have to get some help, And so she proceeded to say they were too busy for that. And when he was being put into the car to go home, they hit his head on the doorway, and he told them he couldn't bend that way(he's just had a back and neck surgery) they just shoved him in the car anyway. I just don't understand how they can get away with treating patients like this. read more

Came in with 2 of my children and had a great lady check us in, she very helpful and understanding of my child that was cranky and didn't want to be there. We went to our room and my youngest was having a meltdown, a very rude nurse of the name Dave stopped by our room and looked at me and ask if I was the patient, I responded no and then he said then you need to leave, he closes the door and didn't return. I am the children's legal foster parent and I cant leave my minor unattended! For all Dave knew the young child having the meltdown was the patient, maybe has a disorder, autistic, in pain, triggered by hospitals, there could have been a list of reasons for an outburst... regardless It could have been handled in so many ways and he choice a useless way to deal with his frustration with attitude and disrespect. He was angry with me like I have any control of another persons feeling and emotions, the 4 year will cry when she wants to cry. How is he expecting a child to handle her feeling and outburst when a grown adult still can't? He didn't make it better but I can say he did make it worse. Dave wasn't helpful, and i would recommend the doctor or nurse attending us should be the one to talk to the patient/guardian if they can't handle a child crying in a hospital, But it's a hospital so am sure crying is pretty common. read more
