Fabulous food joint. Devoured the havarti & avocado grilled cheese. It was messy, huge, and and a delightful combination of savory & tart goodness. Do add the bacon jam and choose the garlic fries. Love that the new chef is continuing to put a couple of vegan options on the menu !! And the portions were bigger this time ! I liked the food the first chef they hired was creating( vegan stuff) but I left hungry the 3 times I ate there. The new chef, who the bartender said had worked at the Blue Ox, is even better, and at a neighborhood casual restaurant I want to either leave full or with a doggy bag. My dinner companion got the best evah mac and cheese, he said it really was the "best evah". I also love that this place is clean now, and my bartender wasn't overly friendly but she definitely wasn't rude. And her job is to make drinks and take food orders, not to entertain you and chat all night. I will continue to go here as long as they keep coming up with yummy vegan options. Update: Not the same chef or menu as my last review. Nothing on the menu was vegan. Got a bland salad and fries. The fries were so soggy and greasy, I sent them back. I have never sent fries back in my life. This place is a hard no for vegan food now. read more

Fabulous little dive near the wharf! Outdoor and indoor seating (with mask of course), delicious food, and the best homemade bread and butter pickles I've ever had. Staff is super friendly and welcoming. Nice selection of food and beverage options. Great place to people watch. The Mercy Burger was simply delicious and the summer veggies cooked to perfection. The food was good server very nice. I got the hamburger and garlic fries $18. We also got pumpkin ravioli $24 when it came to the table we were like is this the child portion size but we didn't say anything. I mean $24 and she was still hungry no salad no bread nothing. Ordered 2 PBR draft beers and one overpriced cocktail. With tip over $77 for lunch. I understand costs have gone up but don't over charge then give the kiddy portion. read more

LOVE this place! Sooo cozy!! Decorated appropriately for Halloween, fall and Salem in general. I loved this place so much! From the service to the company at the bar it was a great stop for lunch and few amazing cocktails concocted by the bartender herself. The food was pretty average- my friend got the burger and wasn't turned on or off where as i got the Cobb salad and loved it. The artwork on the walls is also so one of a kind! We stopped in after spending part of a day popping around Salem. Important parent note...there is no kids menu. But they did alter the nachos to be kid friendly. The fish and chips was awesome. Staff was friendly and helpful. We would be back. read more

I had Sunday brunch at Mercy Tavern with three others. The restaurant is really nice inside. Our server, Timothy, was excellent. He was informative, helpful and friendly. Two of us had the jazzy mimosa and the other two had bloody Mary's. The mimosa was delicious and came in a pint glass. I had the sausage eggs and Swiss cheese breakfast sandwich with potatoes. We had lunch at Mercy Tavern. It was a nice walk and a little out of the way. We didn't have to deal with too many tourists. The Mercy burger was good. The service was slow, and the staff seemed to be friendly with the regulars so they got better service. I would probably come back if I'm in the area again. read more

We came to the Tavern because it's my name but I must say we got more than we expected. They had live music, the food was great, and the service exceptional. Really good burgers. Great amount of grease and cheese, plus on Tuesday's is 1/2 off burgers. It's a little s mc all so it might be tough to get a seat. Music nights are good there like Friday jazz. It does get loud and crowded. As a local I go every few weeks. read more

This spot is a gem located in the cool old school streets of Salem just 1 block away from the ocean and hustle and bustle of Salem. Fish and chips were better than most local spot, coconut crusted fish with hand cut fries made this a cut above the rest. I am a first-time visitor to halloween Salem. I was at this place with 5 friends, one of whom stepped into the the tavern 16 years ago and has been a regular ever since. In the middle of our conversation and merriement we were abruptly curtailed. We were told our table was "cut-off" by the owner. At first we thought it was due to a drink which was spilled and a female waitress who cleaned it up but made comments behind our back. Turned out: the owner didn't like my friend's wrestler singlet and dog collar. We were not a bunch of rowdy college coeds. We were well-behaved, and all over the age of 30, ON HALLOWEEN. And considering some costumes being worn be some female revelers, this decision by the owner was completely biased. This place pretends to be "gay-friendly". It Is Not!! Gays are merely tolerated. As a visitor to Salem from NY, it nearly ruined the visit. Absolutely Disgusting place. read more

I tried to eat here, but I am apparently invisible. I came in the door, waited to be seated and everybody was busy. After a minute a couple came in behind me. Immediately someone ran over and seated them. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and continued waiting. After another minute another couple came in. This time a different worker came running and immediately seated them. A quick glance around the room and I realized I was much younger than everyone else. To test my invisibility, I went to one of the numerous other pubs in Salem. Sure enough, not invisible. Cozy, welcoming, and fun beer list. The nachos are huge and delicious. The steak tips are somehow even better. My only quibble is the fact that the chairs are those trendy modern monstrosities, super hard metal, with back supports that come forward and hurt your bum. That said, there are plenty of nice bar stools at the counter. read more

We stopped in Columbus Day weekend and were told there was an hour wait and only waited 10 minutes! I ordered the hummus plate and the buffalo cauliflower. My boyfriend ordered the impossible burger with garlic fries and he said it was delicious. The only downfall was the amount of garlic they used - in the hummus and the fries there were huge chunks of garlic (we all thought it would be a garlic seasoning). Definitely great cleaning procedures in place and friendly staff. Would definitely recommend and go back if I visit Salem again! read more
