The food and service were excellent. And the corned beef has was some of the best I've ever had. Highly recommended!

This place is great! Hot, fresh coffee...hot, fresh food....what more can you ask for? The waitresses were awesome, offering recommendations and even providing a pamphlet for us travelers to help see what Salem has to offer. If we ever come back to the area, this will be one of our go-to eateries.

The interior was beautifully done, the back deck could use a little work but the food....DON'T CHANGE A THING!! This was the best chicken and waffles this side of Beantown!

Salem's Retreat is such a hidden gem in Salem. A bit of a walk from Downtown with no wait time! Once you get there, it's just this cozy little diner with good food & service. We ordered Ojs to start with veggie omelette, scrambled eggs, bacon & hash browns. The server was kind, soft spoken and got all the little details down to make sure our breakfast was perfect! This is our favorite breakfast spot in Salem and if we are ever in the area again, I wouldn't hesitate to come back!

Holy moly was this place GOOD. You must try the espresso martini and anything on the specials menu. My mom ordered a custom omelette and it was cooked perfectly - I cannot stress enough the fact that my mom is an incredibly picky and critical eater. The service and staff were lovely and the overall experience was more than we could ask for. DEFINITELY returning!

Service: The host, and servers were attentive and well appreciated their cohesive care in making sure someone checked or refilled water, took our order swiftly and throughout the meal even quick with clean up! Ambiance: Outdoor patio with music playing and seating with umbrellas for shade. Very casual and relaxed atmosphere for brunch lunch or good time with friends and family. Food: ultimately large portions and good flavors but nothing stood out or makes me want to particular seek out another visit other than potentially trying their breakfast/brunch specialties. I had the dish named after the resturant the Salem Retreat. It was delicious overall considering the separate ingredients, but together they had a flavor clash that ultimately that brings down the potential of the final dish - steak had some soy sweet sauce base but cooked well done without being charred to crisp which I much appreciated -veggies were a bit more oily than expected -chicken and shrimp well cooked and seasoned (my favorite part of the dish) -mash potato was alright nothing extraordinary but tasted good and great chunk to smooth texture balance

The best parts of a local diner - speedy service, comfortable, inviting, and relaxed atmosphere, and typical diner staples - with a slight but welcome elevation - beautiful plating, delicious flavors, and plenty of options. On this trip, I had the chicken and waffles with maple syrup, which might be the best I've had outside the south. Don't know why it took me so long to try this place but I'll definitely be adding it to the rotation.

This was my first time here for breakfast I can say it was a very excellent experience eating here the food is very fresh and homemade from scratch upon order I would definitely highly recommend this place if your in the Salem area and it is also tourist friendly as well so if you're looking for a good spot as a tourist, I definitely recommend this place for a good homemade Hardy breakfast or lunch

Such a great place for breakfast and lunch. I had a friend tell me that the main area of Salem was lack good restaurants choices so as I was driving in from a conference at Harvard saw this place and took a chance. I was so glad I did food was amazing, bar was fun, people know because it was super busy , but they had me seated and served fairly quickly. I went with the special it was super delicious but definitely want to come back and try the main menu.

Delicious food and friendly staff! I loved how the staff was dressed in bloody hospital attire! It really set the mood of the whole town! I ordered the eggs benedict and they were superb! Can't beat the atmosphere here or the food.

I have come twice since they have changed ownership from their prior establishment. Both times were on pretty busy days but luckily there are seats inside and outside available. We've had to wait at most 10 minutes for a seat. On one occasion we came for brunch on the second when we came for breakfast, however lunch is served almost all day. There is a parking lot in the back for those who do not want to walk far or risk getting a ticket. Been there, done that. So far we have tried the Salem's Chicken Sandwich, Hangover Burger, Monte Cristo, omelette, Greek Salad, and Reuben including their side of fries, Cole slaw, and onion rings. Everything has been a homerun in my eyes but the game changer is the Reuben sandwich. I'm typically not a big roast/corn beef fan, but this totally changed my mind. Something about their bread, mayo and meat is just the ultimate combination. Although the French toast for my Montecristo did come out undercooked the first time, they were very understanding and quick to correct their error. Out of the size I did enjoy their french fries the most in my opinion. Overall, my friends and I have had wonderful experiences thus far. We are always met with friendly faces and the owner makes it a point to also serve her guests and check in on everybody. I cannot emphasize enough how great of a place this is and for others to experience it for themselves!

Salem's Retreat is a nice place for brunch. They have a cute patio which appears to be dog-friendly, and if you're lucky enough to sit outside on a nice day, it's indisputably pleasant. I think they also had some heaters, which was appreciated on an unseasonably fall day that wasn't quite warm enough. For the value, no one can dispute you're definitely getting a lot of food! I ordered the chicken and waffles and really enjoyed them. After a long morning of travel, it hit the spot in the most satisfying way. The Bloody Mary was perfectly seasoned and wasn't overly spicy. The menu is big, diverse, and everyone can find something they'll like. We had some weird moments with service and kindness, but I have a lot of grace for establishments that are still short staffed and dealing with all the issues of the world. Salem's Retreat is a wonderful spot for brunch on the patio and I hope you get to experience it!

proved my point by yelling thru text and telling me i live in a barn

Amazing Bloody Mary! Service was quick and food was good. Cute little space that wasn't too crowded on a holiday Monday.

Great location--right in the center. Two things of note--we stayed on the 6th floor, room 622. The 6th floor is the pet-friendly floor (we didn't have any pets), and my husband opened the door to get ice and there was a mini Doberman pinscher (cute!) desperate to get in our room. Then the owner came around the corner and could not figure out why he wanted to get in our room so bad. My husband went in search of the ice and saw the couple with the dog was staying in the room that would be exactly parallel to ours on the other side. I had a great sleep. Husband did as well except around 3 or so he was awoken to a hard poking several times on his shoulder. He said I was dead asleep and facing away so it was not me. We are both FAR from superstitious and don't believe in ghosts etc, so his mind went to someone broke in--but everything was locked up quite securely. He even checked under the bed! After the fact we found out about its ghost stories with specifically the 6th floor--specifically room 612. Again we were room 622, so does 612 (with the doggie) mirror ours? Other people have also mentioned getting poked as well, which we again didn't see about the hotel till after. So between the desperate dog and the poke, probably nothing--but most creeped out I've been in a while!! (Not so creeped out that we wouldn't go back!)

The lady who is working, the Front Desk has short gray hair and was very rude and obviously did not care about a guest at this hotel. If a guest is lost, wouldn't it be the right thing to do by assisting them instead of complaining about a loss elderly guest who was a retired school teacher? When other people in the hotel were leaving, the same lady was talking to another lady about the guest and talking about how rude they were and how much they were drinking, though when I was there, I did not witness any of this. When I recommend going to this hotel based off of the people who represent this Brand, the answer is no.

Fountain Place Restaurant is just a few blocks away and had zero line. It's definitely got the "tourist trap price" as we walked away spending a little over $100 for a breakfast for three after tax and tip--but honestly, for the quality, the location and speed of service, it felt worth the splurge. The food was well-seasoned and not super greasy (which is usually the typical "diner food" struggle). We went all in on a spread: the Big Breakfast with a pancake, a savory crepe, the hash grilled cheese, a blueberry muffin, and a side slice of French toast. Everything was so good that our group of three actually finished it all! Skip the french toast and go for the pancake. This spot has that classic, cozy vibe without the "greasy spoon" after-feel.
