From the looks of things this is probably one of the better restaurants in Salem. Fully decked out in Halloween swag, this old house, turned converted restaurant is a busy spot. The spaceci itself is tight, loolts of tables are squeezed in. Be ready to meet new people, lol. The staff was cordial and service was pretty quick. I looked at a lot of different plates when I came in and decided to stick to my regular diner choice, grilled cheese & fries. My friend was far more adventurous with the turkey sausage eggs Benedict. First things first I had no idea how to get to the parking lot in the back. If you don't go in through the back you will awkwardly be standing at the front of the building waiting for someone to notice you because the hostess stand is in the back of the restaurant. Not very tourist friendly because we're all trying to figure out where we're going and looking at GPS and not even noticing that in dark letters on the sign it says there's a parking in the back that you don't notice until you've already found parking on a side street. Just a bit frustrating but not much to be done about it. I got a hot chocolate and it was fine, just a standard diner-like hot chocolate. Then the burrito came and although it was supposed to have cheese and chorizo in it, all I tasted was beans and pico de gallo. Barely tasted the eggs. It was HUGE also and the beans are filling so I couldn't finish it but I was just disappointed in the lack of balance in the flavors. I will say the apple cinnamon waffles were fantastic. The crumble on the top was my favorite part. I would just get that next time. I tried my mom's eggs benedict and did not like the hollandaise so I'm glad I didn't get that, I think the waffles might be their specialty. read more

So I went into this place as a dasher. They acted like I was a complete inconvenience to them because I was there to pick up food to be delivered. Place was very small and the setup is not space friendly. They were acting like they were super busy but half the restaurant was being used inside; with some tables on the outside. Maybe they were under staffed? Seems like the staff had their own issues because no one was likely to smile; so there's that. I always looks for places to go when I'm delivering because they are usually new; intriguing & have potential. This place shared none of that with me. To top it off; the skinny blonde woman who seemed like she was "running the show" was rude and demanding. She had me wait outside like I was "in the way" or embarrassing to her & didn't want me to be seen. I can assure you I was none of those things. Would think that an establishment like this one would be wanting to be pleasant to everyone coming in; but they dgaf apparently. I did not try the food. This was one of the most disappointing dining experiences I've had in a long time. From the moment we walked in, it felt disorganized. We waited longer than we should have to be seated, and once we were, service was slow and inattentive. It took forever just to get drinks, and we had to flag someone down multiple times for basic things. The food didn't make up for it either. It came out late, wasn't particularly hot, and honestly didn't live up to the price. Nothing tasted fresh, and it felt like everything was rushed or sitting around too long. What made it worse was the lack of accountability. No one checked in, no one acknowledged the delays, and it felt like they just didn't care about the experience. I celebrated my friends birthday here for brunch. There were 10 of us and ALL the dishes looked incredible. They were plentiful and tasty and we were all members of "The Clean Pate Club"!!! I have come twice since they have changed ownership from their prior establishment. Both times were on pretty busy days but luckily there are seats inside and outside available. We've had to wait at most 10 minutes for a seat. On one occasion we came for brunch on the second when we came for breakfast, however lunch is served almost all day. There is a parking lot in the back for those who do not want to walk far or risk getting a ticket. Been there, done that. So far we have tried the Salem's Chicken Sandwich, Hangover Burger, Monte Cristo, omelette, Greek Salad, and Reuben including their side of fries, Cole slaw, and onion rings. Everything has been a homerun in my eyes but the game changer is the Reuben sandwich. I'm typically not a big roast/corn beef fan, but this totally changed my mind. Something about their bread, mayo and meat is just the ultimate combination. Although the French toast for my Montecristo did come out undercooked the first time, they were very understanding and quick to correct their error. Out of the size I did enjoy their french fries the most in my opinion. Overall, my friends and I have had wonderful experiences thus far. We are always met with friendly faces and the owner makes it a point to also serve her guests and check in on everybody. After a morning of beach coming this place was such a delight that went above and beyond expectations! I had the Mexican Benedict and it easily rivaled many other Benedict's I've had in Boston. I think they also had some heaters, which was appreciated on an unseasonably fall day that wasn't quite warm enough. For the value, no one can dispute you're definitely getting a lot of food! I ordered the chicken and waffles and really enjoyed them. After a long morning of travel, it hit the spot in the most satisfying way. The Bloody Mary was perfectly seasoned and wasn't overly spicy. The menu is big, diverse, and everyone can find something they'll like. We had some weird moments with service and kindness, but I have a lot of grace for establishments that are still short staffed and dealing with all the issues of the world. One moment is when a customer asked if they speak Spanish and they were met with a "nope" and moved on. It's ok to accommodate for people that don't speak English! My meal was excellent! I had the Oreo ice cream on waffles. I actually thought it was going to be vanilla ice cream with Oreo crumbles but Oreo ice cream on it was perfectly delicious. My dining partners loved their food as well. Everyone's main comment was that the food needed to be a bit crispier. So, the potatoes, the waffle, the corn beef hash could have all used a little bit more time on the heat to get it a bit crispy. But the food was delicious and seasoned well! First visit was late in their day -- within an hour of closing so I was prepared for them to rush us along, but was pleasantly surprised when we found a very comfortable atmosphere. We parked behind the restaurant and there was ample parking in the lot. It's easy to miss the turn to get to the parking lot as it is just beyond Salem's Retreat. There is a long covered walkway that leads to the rear entrance of the restaurant. We walked in and were immediately greeted by a bartender who told us the hostess would be right with us. She seated us in a booth and we were quickly served with the most delicious coffee! It had vanilla, cinnamon and cardamom in it, and we both loved it. I ordered the turkey sausage eggs benedict which was served with hash browns. Totally amazing dish. The turkey sausage is homemade there and it was delicious with a spicy flavor that I will come back for. Eggs were just right, and the hollandaise was fresh and not overwhelming. Hash browns were lightly crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. Nom nom nom! The place was busy but not too loud to easily converse. Food was expensive and brunch cocktails were poorly made, 20% tip already included for parties of 4 or more, 20% is usually minimum for tip as guest but the service here was one of the poorest I've ever experienced. Food took 1 hour to come out on a Monday morning at 10am and we had to ask for water 3 different times to different servers each time and was only given water when our check was given to us. Salem is such a beautiful area so it's sad to see such a popular breakfast place give us such a bad experience . read more
